One of the most trusted MPs during his time because of his strong criticisms and alignment with the people over the party, greatest of respects to Mr. Singh. It is decades long policy and constitutional changes that have grown distrust in the PAP's ability to understand what the people want and what they need.

very true. Adding to that many may have seen through the PAP rhetorics. The Raaesah's case may be seen as PAP guiding her to answer. Adding to that Pritam's court case maybe seen as an attempt to soften the effect of Iswaran's case.

Indeed "trust" is something that any party, whether ruling or opposition need to really win/demonstrate to us the voters....that the elected MPs/govts really watched our back and look after the needys of the aged and marginalized out there.

Middle income, with family including children and parent are the worst. Neither here or there, no significant payout and sandwiched between 3 generations and have to take care of their children and parent needs before their own. Meeting needs is already a problem, retirement is something they fear of thinking. There are alot of missing middles for this group, easily can swing the votes because all these issues like cost of living and housing are wicked problems not exactly solved over past elections and it is getting worst. When engaged on these problem, its either flanked or not addressing the problem directly.
But its such a pity Inderjit not serving anymore. He knows the Job to be done framework.

Great interview. Never heard of Inderjit Singh, but he speaks lots of sense.
A constructive observation if I may...both use the words "strong men" in the party a few times. Why not strong women too? I think there are some potential women DPMs in the current government and in the opposition Worker's Party - potential woman leader too. Isn't it time for Singapore's political parties to break this glass ceiling?
I agree with the sentiment that the government was seen as bullying in the Raesha Khan matter. Also the continuing saga with Pritam Singh...just downright bullying.
Great insight into the inner mechanations of the ruling party. Thank you. Hope to hear more of you.

PAP needs to seriously remove discrimination against working parents with young children in Singapore’s workplaces. Seen so many employers using “poor performances” during appraisals to penalise them for taking childcare leaves or unpaid leaves for families.
Errant Employers especially, will use every excuse in their disposal to justify their actions… 👎🏻
That is one of the main reasons why the birth rates are so dangerously low.

PM Lee apologised to the voters in 2011. We are still seeing the same old problems (and more) in 2024 and as Mr Singh said, the needle has not moved significantly. How long do we have to wait then? I also agree with Mr Singh that the votes will not change much from the last election because I think the voters just want the government to change and not change the government. History has shown that the massive turnouts at opposition rallies and all the KPKB by the voters etc will not turn into votes for the opposition. Don’t take the ‘sentiments’ and ‘views’ from the ground too seriously. Voters still want to have the cake and eat it. The ruling party will have some concerns but it’s far from a dire situation for them yet for at least the next few elections. Don’t blame the PAP for doing the same thing over and over again because it’s the voters who keep giving them the thumbs up every five years. However I do think that the declining birth rate is not just a global trend but also citizens taking a more negative view of the future.

We need more people like Mr Singh, and it doesn't matter which party..But yes, trust has been broken, and i didnt agree about the old people being ok..Once strongest supporters of PAP they have been losing trust with the incumbents..second is the majority of young voters who are vocal now and won't take things lying around. A generation that goes against bullying of any sorts, the stunts that the govt pull sometimes to "fix" the opposition doesn't go very well with the youth.

With truthful MP like him, Im taken aback how bad the governance and policies are. Those of us who volunteer and see MP working know they are decent and hardworking. Its policies like GST 9% and the unhinged prices that force people to go the other way.
You ended with "Trust". I don't trust the government. You go to sengkang, some of the people waited 20 years for a hawker centre to be built. Trust? You tell people to have children and the childcare cost is absolutely insane even after government "subsidy". 50 year balance HDB leases can see a 30% hike instead of following the Balas table. Mind you, I'm thankfully incredibly healthy, I never step into a hospital but that one, phew.
A lot of these problems are not new, they happened in 2009, and you allow them to repeat in 2020-2022. And Mr Singh, you're right about WP. Actually, you don't even have to put very good candidates to win. I think the policy formulation better have some improvement or get new people to write them, people with on the ground experience. Based on how good some PAP candidates are, they don't deserve to be sullied by poorly formulated policies.

    • @windydragon6522

Biggest problem with pap now: they only can field civil servants who have a different way of thinking about politics. In fact, they get so uncomfortable when WP is politicising an issue. They expect WP - rightfully voted in - to be subservient to them. Bloody joke.

@@windydragon6522 PAP don't really field just civil servant, but the minister and legislation are dictated by a bunch of civil servants who all group think and don't factor in average people.

The higher middle income has been squeezed whatever policy changes. The last increase in income ceiling is not proportionate to the increase in property prices hikes. As usual, dun qualify for public housing, neither can afford pte properties! The recent changes in hdb classifications n policy changes dun address the high BTO prices. They are merely distractions n changes the focus to localities n its effects. Even the recently introduced interim rental allowance while waiting for BTO with income ceiling n rental types still squeezes them out. This is a category who are not entitled to many grants, yet dun get even 1 cherry pick of public housing.

If the government consults people regarding cpf, I dare say that many will want to withdraw all their cpf money at the age of 55. What if people finish spending all their money? Whom will they turn to for help? We are facing an ageing population so we can't afford to have too many old and broke people. People who keep thinking about their cpf money will most likely spend all of it very quickly.

7:23 “the minister … thought that he could be smarter…” that encapsulates the psyche of the PAP which the ground has grown to detest. Wisdom is not what politicians think they can advance their cause for holding onto power, but it is their innate ability to feel what the ground feel and champion their aspirations. This is something that that LKW and the early founders of Singapore understood but is sorely lacking with the five cents ten cents MPs we are grooming these days.

Ok, I’ve always respected Indejit. This interview is decent but I don’t hear any controversial questions or answers.
What’s inconvenient about them? They are basic questions any right minded person would be asking.
Mind you, that is always a faction that sees conspiracies everywhere but thankfully, they are a minority. Still. Unlike other countries… so we will still have a sensible government for a while… but nothing is ever set in stone. All it takes is one madman, or megalomaniac, and we c are screwed…

The ridiculous practice of awarding the losing pap candidate with the post of grassroots organization advisor reeks of banana republic politics. SG cannot truly claim to be first world while it has this kind of ridiculous unjust practices where a state agency (funded by taxpayers) is being weaponized to advance the political interest of its the ruling party. State agency is supposed to be apolitical. This practice is constitutionally questionable.

It`s about party rather than country. Look at all the foreigners in Singapore today whom we have created jobs for at the expense of many Singaporeans struggling to get jobs that can support families. How easily hoodwinked are the people that you throw birds seeds and they are like pigeons? All the strategies used to pull wool over the voters` eyes are plain for all to see. Pappigs are fighting for their own money. They have lost the plot. Sick society we have become. Cost of living issues is largely govie`s fault and it was not fixed for 4 elections because there is inadequate alternatives voices to question the powers that be, so they continue to sleep at the wheels. We have become so crowded that we are today overcongested. People are increasingly suffering from anxiety from their bad policies they created for the the life of Singaporeans.

The Public inquiry of the sacked young lady MP of WP has gone too far like witch hunting . Younger voters have their views and their votes count at coming GE. A more formidable opposition is necessary as check and balance in Parliament where laws and policies are passed...

I just dun hv the time to go thro the whole video. But having followed the political scene as a concerned citizen being a Pioneer Gen person, I dun think the interviewer & Indejit Singh quite understand the ROOT CAUSES & underlying problems SGP & sinkies face, especially the lack of critical thinking by interviewer who started off by talking about the "successful budget". Hello, what about the epic mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic causing thousands of PREVENTABLE DEATHS; undue & unnecessary sufferings & hardships faced by sinkies & the severe -ve impact on our economy which requires billions of govt. spending? Also the humongous losses, both realized ( eg Merrill Lynch, Barclays etc) and paper losses (eg Stanchart & Bayer etc) because of incompetence of LHL & HC? So called oppo ONLY talk about cost of living (COL) escalating upwards w/out these 2 existential issues & problems. Just think.
