杨荣文说的非常对。政治人物学习李光耀真的要非常小心，毕竟新加坡非常小。如果在中国这样的大国，象李光耀这样睚眦必报，比如产生非常严重的政治问题。因为中国这种国家内部问题复杂，各个地方情况都不一样，领袖的判断不一定是准确无误的。
杨荣文非常好，他并不是一味吹捧李光耀，他也含蓄地批评他。李光耀对人确实非常苛刻，尤其对于当年一些左派的领袖。中国并没有大量监禁政治的批评者，但国家一样崛起了。因此中国的模式还是比较又借鉴意义的。

it's a lost cause. I tried to make my westerner friends understand, but they can't get past the good vs evil narrative that they're used to.
from my understanding, it's not really about china as it is about themselves. western culture needs an enemy. even today, their way of thinking is still deeply rooted in christianity, which teaches people that they're the chosen one and they must defeat "evil". therefore, they need someone to play the "evil" side. throughout their history, they always had a mortal enemy. without it, they would start fighting amongst themselves.

@@neway518what a joke, this is Singapore, we are pragmatic and also will try to get the best, at that time, which aircraft is the best in the world? who can protect us the best? who are the best customers we have? mostly Americans then, so make a lot of sense to have Americans to protect us, give all our American customers the most confidence. so, it is no accident that Singapore becomes the financial center of the east, Hong Kong will never be it but because Hong Kong is the gateway to China, they will be bigger than Singapore anytime. still, who dare to keep money there? even the rich Chinese will park their money outside of Hong Kong, not because China is bad but because chine is not a pure capitalist economy, it is a socialist economic where the government do not hesitate to rob the rich to give to the poor. so those with too much money must lay low and hide their wealth which is a hard thing to do in China or Hong Kong. Now, due to the decoupling, the entire world is experiencing a shift. no surprise there, already in the telecom field, who is the best? so, we use Huawei even though they are supposed to be "evil". how about this: if even the Americans are so afraid that they have to lie and target a company. that company must be the best. so, it was proven.
Relax, Singapore need US alliance to survive. China won’t mind it. China knows, when it two has 12 CSG in fleets, 5000 Nuclear warheads, then, SG will trade in RMB, SG will no longer have to buy F35 nor tolerate US military base.
Firstly, Singapore doesn't have a US naval base, but offers support and maintenance services to any friendly visiting navy - including China. Singapore does military exercises with both the US and China. Please do your research before you comment. Singapore would be stupid just to listen to you and become anti-US overnight, will you defend Singapore if we are being attacked economically and/or militarily? If not, please do not act like you have higher intelligence than us.
2ndly, Singapore doesn't ban Huawei products or its 5G technology. Huawei internal leadership knew our situation and didn't make a storm out of it. Whatever we do it's always national interest that comes before anything else, Singapore will not do anything just to please pro-China camps. LKY once said: keep your friends close to you but keep your enemy closer. This is how we survive as a very small country without any natural resources, many pro-China people will not understand because they see things from their perspective.
Singapore has been closed to US since inception because Singapore is a small country with many dangerous neighbours. In the 60-70s Indonesia is a dangerous neighbour which has an ambition to form a country by conquering Malaysia and Singapore. And Singapore is vary of Malaysia in the 80s. So Singapore established close relationship with US and western countries for security reason. Of course at those period, western countries especially US controlled the world market too.
So that relationship was born out of necessity. But the world has changed. So let's see where that goes. As for weapons, US has the best weapons for the past decades so naturally Singapore will buy from them. But what arrange US have with Singapore in order for them to sell, that is unknown.

有人因为地位无需对你说面子话，有人因为因为不在位而无需对谁说面子话。什么对新加坡最有力？一个和平国际化的市场。比如新加坡刚在以巴问题上投了赞成票，最中立的作法不是应该弃权？对吗？这不是赤裸裸的不中立？过后外交部长甚至出来解释为何。
从这里看出，如果新加坡现在的政府觉得有必要，它们会出来解释和澄清。比如Jocelyn Chia事件新外交部就出来说明立场，更何况是前外长？如果杨的言论超出它们的底线，相信它们会有回应。当没有时是不是一些声音恰和它们的想法而不便说的。你需要评估哪些言论可能是你们政府的看法才对。你确定你了解你们的政府？

I want the best and will spend my money on the best products. Don't mix friendship with business. If you are hungry and broke, as a friend, I will provide for you so that you do not need to stay hungry. That's what a friend is for. But if you are a businessman, I will only patronise if you have the products that I need.
