Your Tears starts the focusing of your eyes. If you have poor or a thin tear film, this can cause blurry vision right from the start. If you tears evaporate too fast, and you have a low TBUT, this can cause a foggy cornea, which can cause hazy and foggy/blury vision. If your dry eyes get bad enough, it can cause dry patches on your cornea called keratitis. Superficial punctate keratitis, punctate erosions, and even corneal erosion can form on the cornea, making it tricky to see though those dry patches.
The main dry eye treatments you can do at home include: preservative free artificial tears, omega 3 supplements, and good lid hygiene.

One thing that I have found with myself... being completely honest and open, is that it takes a lot of energy and time to educate about dry eyes. If a doc is tired, or behind on schedule, it can be really tempting to brush over things. That is something that I have to recommit myself with every day... to try and give every patient my all.

I've had dry eyes for the last 6/7 years...The best remedy I've used it Organic Castor oil...Just using a tiny drop on the fingertip and swiping it across your eyeline like a eye pencil every night for two weeks in the beginning...Your eyes will become alittle blurry, red n gritty for the first two weeks...In the morning you may wake up with crusty eyes, this is all very normal as the Castor oil cleanses your eyes...After two weeks you use it once a week, over time maybe once a month...Your eyes will be clear n sharp, no more weeping eyes or feeling of grit...Castor oil will also safeguard your eyes against Cataracts and Glaucoma...I carry onto to use it every couple of months to maintain the moisture and clear vision...

For the last few years(especially around 2020) my eyes have been getting dry and irritated. my eyes were never perfect I never had trouble seeing at night or the double vision you talked about. But I can even feel the dryness and irritation but when my eyes are properly lubricated I have vision like an eagle with amazing detail. I would myself contribute most of my dry eyes issue from lack of exercise/activity, my diet not being the best the last few years, and the irritants of my current home, aka environment. Even when I went to an eye doctor the head lady there couldn't have cared less about what I was saying to her about my dry and irritated eyes that this is a new problem. All she cared about was getting me a pair of new glasses $$$ for which I only ever needed them for the classroom sometimes. She was even nasty to say she would tell authorities or so that I needed glasses while driving, basically threatening me which after I got done with what I needed there I will never return. But from this video I feel this is exactly what I have, true dry eyes because of diet, lack of exercise, and environment and these solutions and reasons make perfect sense.

@@wandamusictube first she put a steamer on my eyes for 20-30 minutes, like swimming goggles, this to warm up the oils, then she put the yellow drops in the eyes before she squeezed the oil ducts with a flat paddle like tweezer to unblock the oil ducts. To follow up at home, putting a hot/warm face washer over the eyes then slowly run your finger across the lower lid, finishing upward to the outer eyelid like a smiley face. Do this several times. Do as often as you feel you need. Hope this helps.

So many times I'll tell patients that their meibomian glands are dropping out and going away and they probably have a certain level of evaporative dry eye disease and they respond by saying "but my eyes aren't dry". At the same time they are blinking about once every 2-3 seconds so their automatic blinks are accommodating for their evaporative dry eyes and they don't even know it. The next discussion is exactly what you talked about when you brought up "Tear Break Up Time" or TBUT. Good info!!!

Since I was a child I had a 1/4” grey spot on the white of my left eye which my eye doctor told me was a birth mark. When I was 60 I started to close my eyes in the shower and let the water spray on my eyelids, (eyes closed), turning my head side to side, 20x to improve eye circulation. Within two weeks the mark was completely gone. When I told my present doctor what I did he said it was impossible.
I also asked him what the effects were of preservatives on living cells, or if cataracts were a kind of callus the eye makes from dry eyelids rubbing on the surface membrane of the eye and he didn’t know.
I have always had dry eyes and could never wear contacts. Now I think it’s from clogging my tear ducts with the black eye pencil we used to line our inner eyelids with.

This has gone back many years with first problems with my eyes. A few years ago I was also diagnosed with cataracts & had both eyes done to correct it, but then I was still have all the same symptoms just as you described it, blurry intermitted blurriness, severe light sensitivity, itchy and on and on it goes. Then one day I realised that if I yawn, my eyes produced tears. These days I yawn like every few minutes through out the entire day, everyday for the tears. I never use eye drops because the relief is short lived. I have also experienced extremely blurred vision for months and became scared that I was going blind but didn't know why. My heart goes out to U. Not fun at all! I used restasis, prescribed by eye dr., and it caused a much bigger problem, which is dry mouth. It happens while a person sleeps, and drinking water doesn’t stop it. DRY MOUTH , caused by restasis destroys your teeth. We have to have saliva in our mouths 24/7 to not get teeth damage. So beware of any drug like restasis. People have some ideas here that I’ll try, like the organic castor oil. Good luck to you. 🫶🏻😳🤫😝🤨🫶🏻

This is best video on dryness. You literally solved my concern and doubts on my doctor.
I have get checked up by 5 doctor each and everyone gave a different prescription and number for my lens and last the conclusion was my original number was correct and I have dryness which can only be corrected by artificial tears.
I had all these problems listed below
    1. Pain in my right eye only when I wear specs. Without specs its fine
    2. Right eye feels like a stone in my eyesocket
    3. Pain in eyebrows, below eye, nerve and forehead at right side, when I have the specs.
    4. Vision gets blurred after continuous working on the laptop. That's why I follow 202020.
    5. Little overlapping characters not much but worsen with continuous work.
    6. For dryness I have eyedrops 4 times a day which only delays the pain for a while.
    7. I feel sleepy and heavy eyes on my mac all the time and I have to sleep to recover, which I cannot afford
    8. Sometimes I cannot see the fonts clearly the same font and sometimes I can. ( Dont remember when) I think after continuously working and not having eyedrops in the last 2 hours
What can be the reason and solution for this.

Hi, I have similar symptoms, I have met 4 doctors and they have given different eyesight numbers, I got four different spectacles still blurriness is still present. However, I have the following problems--
      1) I feel little blurry in the mornings from 8:00AM to 10:00AM
      2) After breakfast(after 10:00AM), my vision gets more blurry
      3) It continues until evening 6pm
      4) However I feel active from 6pm until dinner. After dinner, I get blurry once again.
      4) Blurriness in the sense, that if I close one eye I can clearly see the vision(closing of any eye). This blurriness is seen both with specs on and without specs.
      5) I feel like there is some substance inside my eyes, I want to get rid of that substance. However doctors say that my eye is perfectly fine.
      6) I always want to close one eye (any eye) and focus with another eye.
      7) Due to this there is headache too, I always want to rub my temple head area due to this headache and always feel sleepy after 8pm. I am not able to hold my sleepiness after 10pm.
      8) Due to this I have become completely lazy. Concentration worsened too.
      9) Especially I feel this in my left eye.
Finally, I feel like torture and none of the doctors are able to treat my problem from the past two years and now I feel my symptoms have worsened by a bit, If you can help me I would be thankful to you.

Thank you so much, Doctor. You nailed my problem. Now comes the question as to how to bring it up with the eye doctor without offending them. (I know doctors don’t like patients doing their own research on line. But, this was such a relief to watch.) Hope they can help me. I have been losing vision in one eye for two years due to dryness. But, I am on Medi-Cal, which I am greatful for, that takes a great deal of self-advocacy and perserverance.
The referral to an optomologist came from a doc who thinks it’s a cataract. This may be a challenge to overcome. The eye not tearing up as well as the other, seems to be the underlying problem.
    Thank you, again.

I use 2 drops each eye morning & evening. It comes in a preservative free bottle. It takes some getting use to squeeze out a drop. Shake well, turn upside down for 20 seconds. Say away from heat sources, wear good sunglasses that block wind & sunlight. I also use Retaine MGD if I’m traveling & need a quick treatment. The cleansers work if you have a lot of bacteria & a slight message. Thanks for the video!

This is very beneficial information. I recently had such pain experience with one of my eyes. Felt like a foreign obj and an inflamed tearing eye. I thought I just had dry eye but drops were not doing much for me. I had to see a specialist and recently got diagnosed with "anterior basement membrane dystrophy" and on and ointment to be placed 4x a day for about a month and a half. I may have to have some surgery called "superficial keratectomy" and absolutely scared out of my mind.

And I hate to run anyone down, or say anything against them.
you did very good with helping with symptom relief.
But I thought DR's were supposed to help fix problems and not to just alevieate the symptoms and allow those symptoms to continue.

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You are correct.
Dry eyes is usually a multifactorial condition with many possible causes depending on the person. I have a playlist of dry eye videos that I am striving to add to to help out as many people as possible. But what it comes down to, is that each person should have a dry eye exam to determine the root cause and develop the proper treatment. I would be unable to do that in a video, even though I try my best to talk about different causes, symptoms, and treatments to give people a better understanding. I try my best to treat the core issue with my patients that I see.

They irritate when I use a little too much digital devices and they get strained too easily so you know I need to rest my eyes a lot throughout the day and I use two eyedrops, cyclomune and hyla fusion they really do help with lubricating and reduce the redness and inflammation in my eyes and do not forget to hydrate yourself properly that really helps. Its very hard to use computer and on that I'm a comp science student so it's really hard to manage every second is of irritation.

I have something going on that seems like dry eye or eye strain or 'mild' conjunctivitis although when it first showed up I thought it was way more serious. I was trying everything, and blaming everything from the weather to the screen on my new computer. Finally, I started doing the easiest thing. Every time I visit the bathroom, I splash water on my face. Not a soapy wash, just water. It helps with the flakey skin I was having around the bridge of my nose and the dry eyes are already much better. The somewhat scarey "I am going blind!" splotches are almost gone.
Enjoyed your advice and I did warm compresses once to relieve a clogged tear duct. So I know the advice is good. Just thought I'd mention this simple possibility.
