Solid video. MGD sufferer here. Bruder mask + eyelid massage 2x a day, Omega 3 + GLA Omega 6 supplementation, a serious preservative-free gel drop (Celluvisc), and improving the air quality by reducing PM2.5 knocked it out for me and got my eyes in good enough shape for SMILE. Now I don't need glasses or contacts.
@@DanSmith-pr1zt Nordic Naturals for the omega 3...I still take it to this day. However, I also eat a lot of seafood, so it's hard for me to quantify which might be helping more. For GLA, I was using Now Foods. I have since discontinued this. Half a year after getting SMILE, my MGD has improved substantially because I am not wearing contacts every day. I continue to take the omega 3 for heart health (even though there is some question as to if such supplementation has benefit in that area.) I also still do the Bruder mask and scrub, but once every few days instead of twice a day. I also did not note in the original comment that I take a high dose of turmeric. I started taking it for arthritis, as it is a potent anti-inflammatory. However, I think it likely played a role in my SMILE recovery and MGD management because it how great it is at knocking down inflammation, and both refractive eye surgery recovery and MGD entail inflammation.
Excellent point! Very important to know the core issue of your dry eyes. It's also good to be careful with eyelid massage as well. If you are too aggressive and do them often, then it could potentially have negative effects. Thanks for commenting!
@@ep1837 Hi EP! Since I do tend toward redness in my whole face already, I use Blephadex wipes. They work SOOOOO well for me, but it's really individual! The foam is cheaper to use, but the wipes are just easier. If my diet is good, I can get away with using them every other day.
While at home wear safety glasses which gives immediate relief by shielding your eyes from air. It’s not the ultimate answer but while the glasses are on you will have no dry eye at all
The most efficient and easy way that worked out for me the best without any teardrops is to put a cold wet cloth overnight on my eyes or for a few minutes and repeated the process over and over it really helped me and my dry eyes had been healed completely. I have wasted money visiting 2 doctors which they gave me a different tears drop everytime . Thanks to my aunt who advised me to do this And I will recommend everyone who has dry eyes Also if anybody is using muscle relaxer They are going to have dry eyes according to the Google
It is frustrating. The tears just drop. Constantly wiping them. I am on a prescription eye drops, $250.00 My eye specialist says it will take 5 months for it to work. This condition is horrible. Looks like I am always crying. It also almost feels as if I am losing my vision.
Thank you for taking the time to share this important information. I had Lipiflow treatment and it didn't make a difference, $1100 spent, very disappointing. I will try all your recommendations, you can't get this information from most eye doctors.
I had a lipiflow treatment as well. To be honest, I didn't feel any improve either. I am taking restasis to, which only after 6 months of using, it seems to be good results. But, there are good and bad days. I am going to try to change my diet to gluten and dairy free. Warm compresses help me a lot.
my left eye keeps getting so dry while sleeping that it wakes me up 2-3 times a night. I keep the eye drops in a box next to my pillow. Thanks for the info.
I found that sleeping on my side opens the eye lid a little and dries it out. I sleep with a goggle like device like TranquilEyes that helps keep the moisture in. There are other types sold on Amazon as well.
Thank you. I had lasik done by Lasik plus that went horrible. They have a lifetime guarantee but ghosted me as soon as they saw the problems on the follow up. After finding another doctor I was informed I was not a good candidate to have lasik done. I’ve been to tons of doctors taking steroids, IPL and every day is still hell. I dread every morning because it feels like sand is packed in my eyes taking me about an hour to be able to see. I’ve already tried several of the things presented but I’ll give the others a shot

Totally agree! I have since either not used music at all or turned it way down for my videos now. I should look into making a new updated video as well. Thanks for watching it anyway... hope your ears didn't bleed. 🙂
Dr. Guymon, great video! You’re doing a wonderful service. As one OD to another, may I suggest that you consider the underlying cause of dry eye? I believe dry eye is part of a syndrome of inflammatory metabolic disease. Omega 3 helps greatly with inflammation, but if you reverse insulin resistance, you will see massive improvement in patient success. Unless we correct the cause, we are just managing symptoms.
Thank you! I am actually planning on a specific video just about the possible causes of dry eye, which as you know, can be a lot to cover. But I'll do my best.
hello, thank you for your videos are very informative and helpful. I wanted to ask a few questions. 1. do skin booster injections around the eyes, which contain amino acids and hyaluronic acid, affect the meibomian glands and if so in which way? 2. do patches for the under eye that conceal the surface of the skin to bring moisture to the surface affect the meibomian glands and if so in which way? 3. do you think PRP injections around the eye area can help with meibomian glands disfunction? Thank you !
You gave the best advice thus far. I mean even my eye doctor these doctors in Las Vegas are horrible they do not help you. you gave the best solution for me. I am just so relieved I ordered everything . I don't care how much it costs. I'm just like tired you can't even . I couldn't even get this kind of advice for my own I eye doctors. Thank you
Yes, and you are right about PRN. I debated actually putting it in the video because of the cost. But, it's considered the gold standard as far as ratio and type of Omega 3, so I thought it would be a one to compare to. Also that $180 one is a 3 month supply if you take 3 per day, but still expensive. Nordic Naturals is also good. Thera tears has a triglyceride form as well that is good, but only a little over half is from triglyceride l.
I've been taking Nature's Best and similar brands for years and they've been good. You can buy the Alaska salmon oil capsules from Costco for about $20.
You can also supplement Flaxseed oil which has a lot of Omega-3 too, and they're inexpensive and organic. Take 2 capsules of fish oil and 2 capsules of Flaxseed oil daily and you'd be good.
Nordic Naturals ProOmega 2000, or Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega 2X. Both are triglyceride form, and have the same 1125 EPA, and 875 DHA. I get mine off eBay, it's half the price then at the store.
I have had bletharitis for years & I always skip days of doing these type of things that I know your supposed to do every day! It always comes back to bite you when you forget or skip the routine & you get that feeling like something is in your eye which drives me insane!

I have terrible problems with my eyes , can I use triple antibiotic creams on my eyes! My eyes are really painful from the dryness? Thank you for being such a great resource!
Are you talking about the triple antibiotic creams that are over-the-counter? I would avoid those, especially for dry eye. Thank you for watching my videos!
Thank you for making these videos, they have really been helpful with my dry eyes. Can you please recommend or do you have a video on the best dry eye mask to get or a better method for sleeping.
"Now I get where some of my dry eye issues stem from...I love to to wear eye shadow, mascara and eyeliner...Lesson learned to clean my eyes better when I remove my make up....Thank you!"
Eyedrops is supposed to give instant relieve/result for blurry due to dry eye, am I right? But using it will cause blurry due to the sticky ingredient (same goes to natural tears when we cry). If we wait long enough, then our vision will be less blurry but that also means the eyedrops has become lesser/dismiss. So what's the point? Or am I the only one who get blurry vision after putting eyedrops?
Depends on the person and their tear film. Some people get immediate clear vision and better feeling eyes. Also, if you have dry patches, punctate erosions on the surface of the eyes, that can cause blurry vision. Using eye drops can help heal those dry patches, or prevent them from happening, and clear your vision.
Thank you so much!! I suffer from dry eye syndrome and it’s really bad some days. So bad that I can’t even open my eyes because of the burning and stinging. Hi doctor. Thanks for the video. You are such a wonderful person. I’ve just found out your channel. However, omega 3 and eye drops are not available anymore in the links in your description. Do you happen to know other places that I can buy from? I’m suffering from dry eyes for years which is greatly affecting my life and work. I wonder if there’s still any hope there. Thanks so much again.
Hi! I just checked the links, and they seem to still work. Do you live in the United States? I wonder if it's not available where you live. You could possibly search on amazon where you live for the same product. Are you able to buy eye drops at you local store?
@@DrEyeGuy Hi. I just checked the links again and all of them are currently unavailable as is said. I’m living in Japan and I can’t find them on Amazon here. Yes, the local stores do have eye drops but not the ones you recommend here.
I am sorry I did that. I can't change it after it's uploaded on youtube. I wish I could. I have since changed that in my recent videos. Thank you for watching anyway.
This is the best video i've seen. This is what we need... Full information with the exact product we need. And more with tears... There are maaaaaaaaaaaaany in the stores and its very hard to fond what is better. I was tying manu but many not yet. And i saw what you showed and i was thinking they are not good. Thank you for this excellent video
I’ve been keto for 2 years, high omega 3 diet. No seed oils. Doing everything right , but it hasn’t helped dry eyes at all. It’s helped a lot of other things though. I just bought a eye wash and eye heat/ messager. Hoping that will help.
Make sure you’re drinking enough water. I heard even by the time a person notices they’re thirsty they’re already dehydrated. Get some electrolytes to help. I’ll bet it has to have some influence.
Dr Thanks for giving information about dry eyes and blepharitis. My question: What is the sequence of activities for treating blepharitis. Hot fomentation, expression of meibian glands, lid hygiene with baby shampo, cleaning eyelids with fingers, lubricating eye drops. Hasan Abbas
Good question, this and other questions have inspired me to make a video on this topic. Let me see if I can actually dive into some research and see if there is a best sequence.
Good question, I know there are vegan Omega 3 supplements, but I don't know enough about a certain brand to recommend yet. I'll start my research. Thanks for the question.
I have psoriasis, and it forms around my eyes and on the eyelids. I believe it also causes the dry eye condition. I wake up every two hours during the night and have to install eye drops because the eyelid will dry and actually stick to my eye. The only relief I have discovered thus far to this problem is fasting since the problem seems to diminish then.
Try taking psyllium powder twise a day with your meals ....1/2 teaspoon each time in a glass of water ( and juice to taste ) . It's incredibly helpful for skinconditions as it will help and regulate digestion , soothe any intestinal problem , absorbe and limit irritating substances and much more . Give it a try for a while !! It will help your skin but don't know if it will help the dry eye 😉
Same here I'll be talking to somebody and all of a sudden my eyelid will stick to my eyeball cuz I have no tears and I can't get it open I sleep with a film of Vaseline right across my eyelashes and it really helps. I was told by an eye doctor when my Lids are closed they don't match up properly so there's parts of my eyeballs that are exposed even when I'm sleeping which has led to a lot of corneal scarring and abrasions
Need to look into food allergies, since gets better with fasting and worse with foods. Most common allergies Milk Eggs Gluten, wheat, rye, etc Nuts Also nightshade vegetables cause inflammation: tomatoes, peppers, egg plant, potatoes..etc
I tried a towel at first and it's not enough heat at the right temp for enough time. The mask is only like $15 and lasts 6+ months. Probably the best $15 I've ever spent.
I use a very warm face washer, it does help. I run it under a very hot tap squeeze it out, fold it and place it on my eyes, I do this several times then I massage the eye lids. It does help with nasty out breaks, or If my eyes get overly dry. Cleaning the lashes with baby shampoo also helps. Good luck every one 😉👀

Thanks for your informative and educational video. I am wondering if wearing mascara, and makeup would worsening the eye dry sympthoms? I have avoided wearing any kind of make up on my eyes for avoiding worsening the disconfort in my eyes.
Yes, they can, either the ingredients can worsen the symptoms, or by wearing the makeup over the water line and affecting the meibomian glands of the eyelids.

The Bruder mask makes my eyes feel worse
What omega 3 and gpa brand did you use? How long did u take to see improvement on this plan?
I've found that clear nonprescription glasses help by shielding my eyes from wind and sun.
Thanks for this comment. I have some videos coming out about these types of glasses soon.
THANKYOU FOR THIS VIDEO. IT IS SO HELPFUL. I WILL DEFINITELY BUY THE EYEDROPS. 🙌👊👍
I also take hit A AND hit D as they work synergistically. It helps heaps as well as drops
I’d be careful with #3 until a root cause is diagnosed. I have ocular rosacea, and warm compresses only increase inflammation for me!
Excellent point! Very important to know the core issue of your dry eyes. It's also good to be careful with eyelid massage as well. If you are too aggressive and do them often, then it could potentially have negative effects. Thanks for commenting!
For me too
@@DrEyeGuy so if you have ocular rosacea, should you not do hot compresses?
Hello, may I ask what do you use instead of warm eye compresses to encourage meiobian glands to produce oil?
@@ep1837 Hi EP! Since I do tend toward redness in my whole face already, I use Blephadex wipes. They work SOOOOO well for me, but it's really individual! The foam is cheaper to use, but the wipes are just easier. If my diet is good, I can get away with using them every other day.
I think you did a great job on this video! My question is, can you use these artificial tears with contacts?

Thank you for watching and commenting on my videos.
I had a lipiflow treatment as well. To be honest, I didn't feel any improve either. I am taking restasis to, which only after 6 months of using, it seems to be good results. But, there are good and bad days. I am going to try to change my diet to gluten and dairy free. Warm compresses help me a lot.
I’ve been watching a lot of videos on dry eye recently bc mine seems to just have gone haywire and this video was so so helpful thank you!!
Mine too. I think allergy season is playing a BIG part in my dry eye discomfort right now.
my left eye keeps getting so dry while sleeping that it wakes me up 2-3 times a night. I keep the eye drops in a box next to my pillow. Thanks for the info.
I found that sleeping on my side opens the eye lid a little and dries it out. I sleep with a goggle like device like TranquilEyes that helps keep the moisture in. There are other types sold on Amazon as well.
You may be sleeping with eyes slightly open. Try a sleep mask.
Warm compress helps. Plus just use natural tears.

@@DrEyeGuy Thank you for your understanding.
Thanks, Dr. This is a very detailed info and I thank you for that. I tried 3 of that 4 and will add Omega 3.
hello, thank you for your videos are very informative and helpful.
Thank you
Can you recommend an alternate Omega 3, this one from PRN is about $170, which is not affordable by so many folks. Thanks! Your videos are wonderful
Any fish oil from a reputable manufacturer is fine. No need to go with the "fancy" brands.
Nulid has helped me.
Thank you, this was very very helpful and I will upgrade my dry eye routine, thanks to your advice and suggestions.
How is it going??
Great tips! I have dry eyes that seemed to get worse after lasik is that common?
Absolutely! It's one of the most common side effects. I'll have a video coming out explaining why that is.
Is saline any good for dry eyes?
Could you do a video on your own experience with dry eye?
Yes, planning on it. 🙂

@@l.k.orsamaggiore3443 Thank you! I noticed that going on the KETO diet really helps too!
Most common allergies
Milk
Eggs
Gluten, wheat, rye, etc
Nuts
Also nightshade vegetables cause inflammation: tomatoes, peppers, egg plant, potatoes..etc

Do u have any remedy to remove eye bags ?
Can I use a hot moist towel instead of a heat mask?
You can, it just may not be as effective. The moist towel's tend to cool off fast so you don't get the sustained heat like with a heat mask.
