    A: Sony a7iv
    B: DJI Pocket 3
    I like A (a7iv) better. But B (pocket 3) has some pretty good low light shots.
    I actually have both. Just got the Pocket 3 the other day but haven’t been able to fully get into its abilities so it’s good to see this video.
    Thanks for the comparison!

      Agreed, the slight more saturated greens made the Pocket 3 "look" better color wise for me but not the image fidelity. The A7IV seemed overall warmer, which is also good but for nature aesthetic the green reinforces that forest feel.

    Nice review. Owning a DJI Pocket 3 and a full-frame Sony a7C with a Weebill S gimbal, I can tell that A: is the Sony, and B: the DJI. Sony, Canon and others would be smart to copy DJI, at least in terms of compactness. Obviously doesn't have to be the same exact design, but with some sort of attached gimbal, and perhaps a little bigger for a bigger sensor and lens to compete, but still small and light. Actually, I find that Pocket 3 night footage (like the near, total darkness footage on the beach at 8:14) actually looks better when 'not' using the 'low light' option! You can adjust it in post, and get rid of a lot of the grain, and it looks much closer to the A7 IV, if not better! Again, nice review, but that music at 5:28!...

    • @loicba
      @loicba  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally agree other manufacturers should copy DJI! It's crazy, all the TH-camr I follow that go outside to film their videos are switching to the DJI Pocket 3. I also concluded that using the D-Log at in low light is better than the low light mode in the long term review I just posted! th-cam.com/video/9YS8oojc26M/w-d-xo.html

    I haven’t got to the reveal but could tell immediately the Sony is A. However, the Pocket 3 holds up well but it can’t match a full frame. A better comparison would be Pocket 3 and ZVE1. ZVE1 would not need a gimbal and is even better in low light. The ZVE1 would blast those lowest light shots with much less noise, whereas the Pocket 3 falls apart in the really low light.

    Camcorders are the underrated cameras! A powerhouse of a camera within one body especially with a higher model like Canon XF400 or the Sony X70 1080HD our its 4K successor PXW-Z90V. Heck even the Sony FDR-X700 is quite nice. AX53 from Sony also looks cool and it has a built in gimbal stabilization system in it as well. Both of the cameras featured in this video look good to me. Given my current purchasing budget the DJI Pocket 3 would be what I get from these two since it's more affordable for me. I'm also impressed with the footage that comes from it. But let's all remember whatever cameras you shoot with the content also matters a lot to.

We own a FX30 (with gimbal) and a Pocket 3. Allthough the Osmo is way easier to handle in terms of weight, setting up and ease of use, we definately prefer our FX30. Huge difference, even in day light. Camera A has better sharpness, and better dynamic range. Color looks way better too.
    But in the end, it depends on what you're doing. If you're just going around recording yourself and scenes on travels, it doesn't make sense to get the A7iv with a gimbal, I've done it, and it's horrendous. I'm looking to buy the DJI Pocket 3 since it's so small. I have the Insta350 ONE RS 360, and that has 1" sensor but I don't like the video quality. When you do workflow on it, it's so slow because you need to extract video, convert, and re-edit.

    I really loved this comparison. I knew which camera was which, because of the way the Osmo handles focus. And I actually found otherwise that I enjoyed both footages, each slightly more at different times. For focus, it was “B”, the Osmo. Near and far objects seemed to look better. For color, it was “A”, the Sony. There is a huge “but” coming in at this point. If you only have the Osmo, you would never think that the colors have any kind of problem. In fact at times I liked the Osmo’s color better than the Sony’s…but those were rare. Mostly the Sony was better.
    In short I am incredibly happy with my new Osmo. Not sure when I will dive into D-Log M and Luts (sp?) files. I am aware that color management in post using that feature is considered superior to simple auto…but I’m not a professional, so auto really seems much more convenient.
    However if I go and film something spectacular on an epic trip, of which I have now been on four sailing vacations at different places in the world (Tonga, St Lucia and the Grenadines, Bora Bora and most recently the British Virgin Islands). I’m planning of all of them to return to Bora Bora. The beauty there is unequaled. And if doomsday ever happens I hope we are there. I’m certain that no violence would ever happen in the beautiful French Polynesia island of Bora Bora. And with those incredibly light blue, crystal clear waters, all colors are all around (particularly under water). Maybe I’ll have to buy a water proof housing for the OP3!

    I think the DJI handles colors better especially in shadows as in the forest walks the ground colors and tree bark colors are much better than the Sony. It got the colors and contrast better more often than the Sony. As far as highlight clipping they both clipped a little in several scenes usually different scenes.

    I could not see meaningful difference between A and B, except for the low light scenes, where B (pocket 3) looked much better. It's crazy that you get comparable or better performance for 1/6 of the price, much smaller weight, plus lots of additional features: built in gimbal, object tracking, faster framerate, etc.

    • @loicba
      @loicba  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a good question! For me there's a few reasons:
      1. The interchangeable lenses!
      2. For photography, the Sony is just way more flexible and produce better results
      3. Advanced/pro features: lots of "pro" features that are required in more advanced setups are not possible with the DJI Pocket 3
      4. Build quality/weather resistance. The DJI Pocket 3 did surprisingly good but my Sony can work in cold/hot/rainy/snowy/muddy situations. I wouldn't want to use my DJI Pocket 3 in all of those :'(
