Hi Mark! I purchased the ZV-E10 through your affiliate links and I do love it. It has a better overall image and focus (especially in low-light) than the Pocket 3 which I also own. But, pulling out your ZV-E10 with a gimbal reminds me of the scene with Jim Carrey in the Mask where he pulls those huge guns and calls the thugs (in this case with the Pocket 3) punks. :-) If you're mostly studio and static work, then I would go with the ZV-E10. If you're mostly vlogging and run and gun, the Pocket 3 is the way to go. The ZV-E10 has superior optics, but outdated technology in a lot of ways. The DJI has inferior optics (compared to the ZV-E10 and a good lens) but has some of the most advanced technology out there. The motion timelapses on the DJI are super easy and are absolutely stellar.

The creator package comes with dji mice 2 included but the Rode Pro sounds way btter and can aslo be used with Pocket 3. Creator package is a better deal if you do not need 2 mics nor supperor sound quality. Dji mic 2 still sounds good, just not in par with Rode. @@ahmadsenyum9754

Great video as usual! I recently acquired the Pocket 3 and, after thorough testing, I've observed that HLG mode yields a more visually pleasing result compared to D-Log. The key difference lies in the color spaces: HLG utilizes BT.2020, offering more flexibility in color saturation, whereas D-Log is confined to Rec.709, which limits color play and tends to deteriorate rapidly in low light conditions. Consequently, I've decided to primarily use HLG mode. Adapting to Pocket 3 has been a bit of a journey, especially after being accustomed to Sony's ecosystem for the last 15-20 years. In my comparisons between Pocket 3 and the Sony RX100VII, I noticed that the RX100VII, with its SLog3 setting, outperforms Pocket 3 in daylight, offering a superior image quality despite being 8-bit. However, in indoor or night settings, the Pocket 3 significantly surpasses the RX100VII.
And one more thing. I am really disappointed that DJI does not have Aperture. Now testing with Variable ND filters and it is no fun to use them. In run-and-gun situations, I would probably should forget about Shutter priority and run it wild up to 1/8000. :)

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

Do you use Resolve? If so what input colorspace/gamma do you use for the HLG clips?

    • @olegvorkunov5400
      @olegvorkunov5400 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@ca_pilot In the realm of color grading, numerous approaches exist, and my expertise is largely shaped by trial-and-error. However, I've distilled my experience into a practical and efficient workflow, particularly within Davinci Resolve's versatile environment. Here's the refined process:
      1. Project Settings - Color Management:
      - Color Science: Opt for 'Davinci YRGB Color Managed'. This setting lays the groundwork for consistent color handling throughout your project.
      - Color Processing Mode: Choose 'HDR Davinci Wide Gamut Intermediate'. This mode offers a broad color spectrum, crucial for HDR content.
      - Output Color Space: Set to 'Davinci WG/Intermediate', aligning with the chosen processing mode.
      - HDR Mastering: Configure for 1000 nits to ensure optimal luminance range.
      2. Color Tab Adjustments:
      - Input Color Space for Clips: Either select 'Same as Timeline' by right-clicking on the clip and choosing 'Input Color Space', or opt for 'Bypass Color Management' to maintain the clip's native profile.
      3. Node Configuration:
      - First Node: Apply noise reduction as needed, though it remains an optional step.
      - White Balance and Color Adjustment Nodes: Sequentially arrange these nodes post noise reduction. On one of the color adjustment nodes, set the Offset to 12. This adjustment ensures the bottom of the Parade touches the 0 level. Carefully adjust highlights to keep them below 10000, preventing overexposure.
      4. Final Node - Color Space Transform:
      - Settings: Adjust the Input Color Space to Rec.2020 and Input Gamma to Rec.2100 HLG. Set the Output Color Space to Rec.709 and Output Gamma to Gamma 2.4. These settings are crucial for translating your color work into a standard viewing format.
      - Output Color Flexibility: You can modify the output color to fit specific project requirements beyond the standard Rec. 709 output.
      5. Delivery Settings:
      - Format and Codec: Export in MKV format using the H.265 codec. This combination ensures a balance of quality and file size, with the H.265 offering efficient compression.
      - Encoding Profile: Choose 'Main10' for enhanced color depth, accommodating a wider color range in your final output.
Please note, that first step I ussually was select Automatic Color management from HDR to SDR, but from some videos I found, some TH-camrs suggested to use Davinci Wide Gamut and do all color tranformation in the very last node.
If you want to transform D-Log footage, then Color Transformation Node would be like this:
      - Settings: Adjust the Input Color Space to Rec.709 and Input Gamma to DJI D-Log. Set the Output Color Space to Rec.709 and Output Gamma to Gamma 2.4.

the DJI pocket 3 is great for recording yourself in situations where you don't want a large camera drawing attention to itself. I've been able to clip it to a music stand, set it in a corner, or on a table to record myself playing gigs, and its just this little narrow candy bar sized thing. Much better than trying to use an iphone in this situation, where you can't even utilize the best cameras without guessing about the footage. Also, the built in mics sounded better than I expected them to! You can also monitor the footage on your phone, and move the camera remotely if you need to :)

I’m a cheap sob when it comes to most everything so I do extensive TH-cam research and your channel is by far the best for cameras. I’ve been dabbling with homesteading content outside and I’ve come to the conclusion the smaller and easier to use dji is the way to go for me. I especially enjoy the tracking feature so I can run around and do stuff with the animals and not have to constantly reposition. If anything the price for all of the zv e10 accessories I’d rather have 2 DJI’s set up tracking me from different perspectives! (I will admit the zv does look better though) Great video and thank you again!

Thanks for the review, I do not have the E10 but the FX30, but like the DJI for its small size. Take it you just bought the camera set, not the creator one. Love the Mic2 included with that creator set, it being able to remotely trigger the camera, and wide angle lens, extended battery and table tripod included for just a few dollars more. Your experience with the DJIs night mode are odd, mine are much much better. Not sure what makes the difference. Especially using the mist filter on the DJI makes for fantastic night shots in cities. I did not expect the DJI to win over your beloved E10, but it finds its place in my gear park. Its smartphone app Mimo is also great, planning to get a smartphone holder for the DJI. Also tested livestreaming to TH-cam, not a perfect workflow getting there, but fun to use. Enjoy the DJI and its active tracking with your kids.

This video was very helpful. Something I noticed in yours vs everyone else's is that the Pocket has a very strange, somewhat unpleasant effect with its stabilization compared to the Crane gimbal or the other software stabes. The Pocket keeps the background rock steady, but you appear to jitter around in the frame almost like you're a cardboard cutout being moved around, rather than a person walking. The other stabes had you actually moving, not suddenly jittering from place to place.

Thought both looked good @handsome alley, and if you want to walk around in rail-yards the OP3 a better choice if you don’t want to haul around a lot of other gear (gimbal etc)…making you less likely to be candidate for a mugging (there is a reason railroads have their own police force 😊). I did prefer the narrower field of view on little Dougie though. Both got a little too dark when lights lower than 50%, though its hard to beat a 1.4 lens. Great video Mark!

Very handsome comparison. I can see the DJI Osmo P3 would be great for travel vlogs since the location you're filming in would be the "star" of the video. With the deeper focus, the Osmo would have more of the environment in focus, which is perfect for travel videos.

Since this upgrade from a ZVE10 starts getting closer to full frame costs (new or used) is there a fullframe I should consider making the leap onto instead of staying in crop sensor area?

DJI Pocket 3 is now the best camera for vlogging especially if you got Creator Combo with the Wireless Mic 2.
It's not ideal ... but it's close to perfection :D.
And I say Normal color profile in Pocket 3 is a way to go ... zero color grading needed ... you can upload straight from the SD card :D.

I noticed what looked like frame drops / Choppiness for the DJI when vlogging, where the Sony remained smooth, most noticeable at the train tracks. I know that thing is not overheating in Canada at this time of year :) . is it choppy sometimes? or is it a an artifact of the gimble? excellent video as always

It's probably the result of the higher shutter speed that was going in the DJI. So a ND filter might help - I'm going to see it it does.

If I had no experience with cameras/manual settings, the Osmo Pocket 3 is a no-brainer. Would even consider getting one for my kids. The onboard audio was noticeably better. The stabilization is good, but it did have a bit of jitter (not sure if you can ever truly get rid of that).
However, if you do know how to use manual settings on a camera, I feel like even starting with the zv-e10 with kit lens and a small gimbal would be a huge step up. Then buy a good mic (either wireless or on-camera). Just upgrade accordingly.

First of all, I care, second, I'd buy the osmo 3 all day long, the zve10 has some issues like the very slow sensor readout, that alone can make it useless with the wrong light at a closed place or at night, the convenience of having a gimbal on your pocket is amazing, I've been using my osmo 1 since it launched for weddings and it has make me good money, I'll go to the States early next year and I'll get the osmo 3, of course this taking is only for video, for photos I've a good old a7r3, I really wish dji starts making some cameras only, their quality is just amazing, osmo 3 for only $500 can record 4k 120p, Sony zv1 for $700 can only do 4k 30p

That video probably wouldn't be very popular - but I will tell you that the GH5 is great and a professional tool with 10-bit 4.2.2 and two card slots and great stabilization - however, it has terrible autofocus and is not good at all in lowlight. Manually focusing everything is difficult. Now if you had a bunch of micro 4/3 lenses and you liked manually focusing, the GH5 is still a great option. But If you want autofocus, better lowlight and access to Sony's amazing lens system, the ZV-E10 will be the way to go

Hello Mark. @6:30 in the video (DJI part): There is shakiness around your head compared to the background. Are those micro jitters? I would have expected that shakiness from an action camera but not from a gimbal based camera.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis The micro jitters were quite noticeable to me. I do not see this in the videos that I have taken so far with the pocket 3. it wasn’t to show what an f2 lens on an apsc can do vs an f2 lens on a one inch sensor - that wouldn’t show anything of importance. What is important is to know each camera can do. There are affordable 1.4 and even 1.2 lenses for the zv-e10 - I can’t pretend it’s a fixed f2 lens when it is not. But also, a f2 on an apsc is still much better in lowlight than an f2 on a one inch sensor. You can buy bright lenses for the zv-e10 but it’s bigger and is less stable. the pocket 3 has f2 fixed - so that is what it’s capable of. I designed these tests to be as practical as possible for buyers.

I would disagree about results and would like to ask a favor to check if you have manual exposure ISO set to variable and not static, which looks like you were at ISO 800 on pocket (static). It was on variable - but it was in a very dark environment. You see the ZV-e10 with a brighter lens and iso of 32000 wasn’t great either, the DJI only goes to iso 16,000 and it was too dark for that.
