    Thank you! Delicious recipe. One thing worth mentioning is that the eggs need to be added once the dry fruit mixture has cooled. Otherwise, we might have scrambled eggs.

      Hi Smitha, I have never tried this recipe with fresh figs. Since they are more moist, the consistency may change and the baking time too. I guess you can give it a try. Just reduce the quantity of the wet ingredients. All the best!

    Shireen why do you cook baking soda along with figs?

    • @ruchikrandhap
      @ruchikrandhap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Baking soda helps break down the figs and disperse them evenly in the batter. Another answer I found on the internet is a bit more scientific. This was for dates that are cooked with a bit of baking soda. I’m pasting it here for your reference. Credit goes to the person who gave this explanation “baking soda is mildly alkaline and dates have tannin and are astringent; the baking soda neutralizes the astringency and removes or lessens the tannin bitterness”

    • @ruchikrandhap

      1/4 cup mashed bananas
      1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
      2 tablespoons water + 2 teaspoons baking powder + 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
      1 tablespoon agar agar + 1 tablespoon water (mix & use immediately)
      1 tablespoon flaxseed powder + 3 tablespoons water (whisk & use)
      1 tablespoon chia seeds + 3 tablespoons water (mix and let it sit for 12-15 minutes)

      @@ruchikrandhap
      Yeah, that was the old story. Now everyone knows that honey is as bad. For the same nutrients one can eat any piece of fruit, a bit of honey is insignificant when it comes to providing nutrition.
      I thought this recipe was with just figs as a sweetner. A little misleading.

    • @ruchikrandhap
      @ruchikrandhap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Good to know abt that, you must be a nutritionist. Just to be clear the title mentions that it is a fig cake with no added sugar and that it is naturally sweet. In the description I have written "This naturally sweetened cake is delicately flavoured and packed with the goodness of figs, dates & honey" so it is not a recipe that is masquerading as a 'healthy' one as the recipe also uses maida/refined flour. So in my opinion I did not mislead anyone.

      First, let's assuage the most serious concern - no, heating honey will not turn it toxic and kill you. Heating up raw honey will change the makeup of the honey, and potentially weaken or destroy enzymes, vitamins, minerals, etc (more on this in a second) but it will not give you a horrible disease or poison you.
