We love a bargain here and if you compliment someone on a charity shop buy, they will proudly tell you it was a charity shop bargain. The better the bargain, the more proud of the item we are.
Buying second hand or donated items from a charity shop comes with a feel-good factor because you know that while you’re benefitting from your cheaper purchase, the dedicated charity uses the money it makes to benefit those in need. And if you donate items to a charity shop you can register with them and they in turn are able to reclaim the sales tax from the government which also increases the funds the charity can make.
Thanks. I really enjoyed this. I would highly recommend you see a pantomime this Christmas, especially as you enjoy the theatre......another tradition you wouldn't see in America i don't think.
@@mushypeas468 But it has to be a REAL pantomime, not one of those shows that seem to pretend. Preferably there have to be lots of children watching. The noise can be seriously unbelievable.
Businesses are being driven out by the things you mention, but a big factor is the punitive business rates and rents councils and landlords inflict. Small businesses cannot fork out £60k a year before you start for a small high street shop

I think the difference in transportation between the USA and the UK is simply because of the difference in size, the distances needed to be covered. In the UK you can get on a coach at the southern most tip of the country and travel to the most northern point in the country in less than 24 hours, just as an example. If you could pick up the UK and put it down in the USA it would be pretty close to being the smallest state.
That was an enjoyably and interesting vlog. The main reason for the demise of our High St is the Internet, with an opportunity to buy online. I started buying online because I couldn't get what I wanted from a store. However I saw somewhere that footfall is increasing on our High Streets because people recognise, as you do, the simple pleasure of browsing, even if they're not buying. Hopefully that will steadily increase. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Many West end shows tour sometimes before they go into London or after. The prices are much cheaper. Regional threatre in the UK is amazing to. I've stopped going to the West end as I can see so many amazing shows in a variety of venues with an hour of where I live
I was surprised by your comment about train fares being cheaper, I had assumed British train fares were the highest in the world! Typically travelling by train costs twice as much as a National Express bus.
Do go see a Pantomime, if possible Dick Whittington it is almost historical accurate he actual was Lord Mayor four times, it possible the stories about him whilst he was still alive.
While the names and of many royal events and sections of them go back many years, many have changed so much they bare little resemblance to what has happened in the past. While aspect of the King's coronation are steeped in history the service in Westminster Abby is significantly different for every monarch. The UK has no written constitution which means it easy to change the rules governing the government and Royal family. In 2015 an act of Parliament along with agreement of other nations were the Queen was head of state so that the first born regardless of gender would be next inline for the thrown. It also allowed those inclined for the thrown to marry a Roman Catholic
I am a British royalist and can say the royal family do bring in quite a financial sum in the form of tourism. There is absolutely no way I would vote for a President.
this is true, but, 99% of the money generated by tourism in relation to the royal family stays in london, it does not benefit the rest of the country. Most of the major "royal attractions" if you like are in and around london/m25, and thats where the money stays
We would still have tourism. France has no monarchy and has more visitors than the UK. The castles, palaces and places people visit would still exist and not be destroyed. The property and estates owned by Dukes and Barons would still pay tax on earnings if they were owned by people who were not privileged relatives of the King.

Pantomime. Go to see a panto! Such a great blend of historical theatre and modern, between children's humour laced with adult. You can't say you've lived here until you do. I thought USA were thrifters as they have so many thrift channels. I’ve never been in a thrift store in the UK and young people want to find certain fashions from an era they like to dress. Unfortunately if you lived rural you have to drive in the UK too and most people do own cars. If we need stuff we have to drive to big retail parks to get our stuff.
I’m a Republican (not Trump type) So Royal gossip annoys me. But I see what you mean. I love visiting Castles. Summer holidays as a kid often involved doing that. Magical. I do like Royal history. It is fascinating to me
@letitiakearney2423 I know it is. It is popular here, too - but we do not call it thrifting _at all_ ; it is no known by that name and if someone here said 'I'm thrifting this afternoon' only very few people would really know what was meant. Also, we have very, _very_ few of the massive 'thrift shops' which are so popular in the US. What we do is go to specific places which are known to have a cluster of several charity shops, and spend the afternoon going to each of them in turn!
