Great to see Greg again! What a fantastic story teller and so interesting! A damn fine bloke - respect! Thank you Greg and Tony for another excellent interview.
Got some interesting photos of my late uncle John Hodgson known as Jack. One of him climbing in a plane saying Testing first steerable parachute for Rhodesian Army 1958. One of him instructing Jock Hutton on his first free fall. Plus others, great to hear all these stories .
Another reminder of the quality of Non Commissioned Officers and their importance to fighting units. Thank you both for this series of interviews. So articulate and informative laced with incredible humility and that crucial sense of humour.
Absolutely brilliant thanks Greg! It's really interesting how early the Recces were practicing what became Accelerated Freefall Courses. I knew an operator from 5 Recce who used to spend time on the DZ at Phalaborwa airport in the mid 80's who mentioned that the most difficult thing he found with HAHO operations was maintaining blood flow to his lower legs under canopy so they didn't go to sleep..... so that if necessary he could run after landing!
Did my Para course at Tempe which did nothing to prepare me for the operational jumps ahead. Only one thing I remember it was the last time I ever rolled left and rolled right, just used to hit the ground like a post bag 😂
US is 3 weeks with the first being smashing, second smashing plus ground training third jumps. Were those rounds like T10’s Greg ? (Slightly modified with the Cell split). Cheers mate
Wow what a military career. As an Artillery Gunner can only tip my beret to these Parabat Special Forces boys. Salute to you, well done.
Have been waiting for this, Greg is such an excellent story teller. Thank you
