  • It's time to upgrade my Wifi System and I'm upgrading to the Eero Pro 6E Mesh WiFi 6 System in my smart home. I install it in my living room, studio, high-tech Airbnb suite, and also in the shed in my backyard. I was surprised by the incredible signal strength!
    - supports network speeds up to 2.3 Gbps
    - coverage up to 6,000 sq ft
    - direct access to 6 GHz band when using WiFi 6E devices

    Good, helpful video! But how does signal strength translate to speed of uploads and downloads. I had better luck with the Eero 6Pro system vs. the 6ProE regarding distance and Internet speed on my Apple devices. None of which support the new Wifi protocol. I'll be adding two more Eero6E hoping that improves distance and speed over my now return Eero 6 Pro system.

      Hi Bill, the speed of uploads and download ultimately depend on your Internet plan. The best way to check your max speeds is to connect a laptop directly to your modem and do a speed test. That's interesting that you had better luck with the Eero Pro system. One would assume the newer WiFi 6 system would perform better. Let me know how adding additional units improves your distance.

      @@handyandymedia I did manage to improve the speed on the outer reaches of the house by adding two more Eero 6Es. I also directly Ethernet wired my M1 MacMini to the walk out basement where the main Eero is connected to the modem. 947MBPS download and 939MBPS upload. I also Ethernet connected to a remote Eero vs Wifi to the remote from my iMac. Those speeds greatly increased to about half of the M1 MacMini. Not bad at all!
      But, I am still wondering if I need to be buying 2GB service plan vs. the 1GB Metronet service plan, as all in all I not really really approaching 2GB, which I know is just a pipe dream given Wifi and my equipment. But I wonder if by dropping down to the 1GB I will lose my current reported speeds.
      Sorry to sound greedy, but there are going to be 4 security cameras installed on the exterior on my home (plus a couple of Ring video doorbells), and I am wondering if they are going to hog my Internet speeds for my everyday use not related to the security system? I guess I'll find out. To Metronet's credit they did upgrade the initial installed modem and Eero 6Pros to 6E. Though I still think the range of the 6Pro is greater than my now all 6E Eero Wifi extenders even for my non 6E devices in the 5Gz range.

    Thanks for the great video. I am going to setup a 3 unit eero tomorrow but I am fortunate enough to to have ethernet in all the rooms. Do I need to connect them first via wifi when setting up and then connect the ethernet after or can I start the setup process by connecting the ethernet cables to the units?

    • @handyandymedia
      @handyandymedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Ethernet ports on the back of the eero is to connect wired devices directly to it. Only on the main unit does the Internet come in via Ethernet. Did you do the installation? Let me know how it went.

    What the signal strength in dBm? Why do you need all of those modes in your home. I guess the pro 6E is not very powerful and needs boosters everywhere. I have one from Frontier and as you move away, the speed drops like a stone. At 65 feet, I can download at 10 - 25 Mb and I have fiber. I don't find it to be so wonderful.

    • @handyandymedia

      I definitely went overkill with this setup. It is powerful but I've learned if you have too many satellites, it can cause interference and issues. So I had to turn some of them off. It's a good solution for multi-floor homes.

      The speed is only as fast as you get from your ISP. The Wi-Fi signal strength was very strong in the shed and Airbnb suite. The speed tests were as fast as I got in my living room.
