500+ hours of almost entirely survival, never made it to space (due to losing interest). In both my last and the current playthrough I used ChatGPT to give me some inspiration on ships/RP scenarios. Nowadays it seems so difficult to find inspiration because for me it's either the unattainable mastery of building good looking ships (like Omega and Major Jon to name a few builders) or the difficulty of building things and implementing them in survival either from a projector or freehand. Just yesterday I finished building in creative my first space ready vessel with a decent walkable interior (my second ever ship to have walkable interior, first ever pressurised interior), and in survival my second ever base that was more than just a larger and larger steel block sheet. Every now and then I look at some of your videos for inspiration too, so I can't wait to see you build some cool things in survival (and maybe some more creative mode build videos). Love your content regardless of series, it's just generally comfy vibes.
Have you ever tried to have a duplicate of your Survival Save? I duplicate mine and make one "Research & Development" for those exact purposes. Might help with keeping interest and direction to your game.
Scenarios are always a great way to spice things up, it's all about immersion which is why I like to take things slow and do a bit of RP. Glad you enjoyed!
@@sorin369 Sorry about the Late Reply. You Duplicate the R&D save and then turn it creative in the Load Menu Options. This let's you experiment with Grid set-ups as well as testing Drones (Because they like to smack into Voxels) Technically you can use it to scout but I like to Scout in Survival.
For some reason, after following the game for a decade and not playing it because my PC was really bad, a week ago, I broguht new components and it was enough to play SE! After watching splitsie and your videos (I'm on number #29 on your other series) I finally managed to play for 50 hours this last weekend and easter. Thanks for making this series so I can keep learning new stuff!
I started breaking up even my starting grids into a sort of "Work Site" ever since I saw your video about keeping yourself motivated. 1- Right next to my starting mine (hopefully leading to more than just stone) I place the Assembler and Refinery (Basic) and integrate them into the Power Tower which will later have Red Hazard Lights for spotting by Air. 2- I rely on the Respawn Pod to use the Survival Kit's medical functions whilst Mining and Refining about as fast as I can sprint a loop around the Canteen shaped Hole I'm Digging (unless I've found Ore) 3- The next is the Medical/Foreman's Shack which will obviously house the Survival Kit but also the Oxygen Tank, Hydrogen Tank, H2/O2 Generator and any Radio/Beacons and Logic Blocks for Airlock system leading to Landing Pad (conveyed up connector) 4- The last thing is making a powerline to a Battery/Solar Tracking Tower. Once I have made this quick starting work site the progression is about ready to start making Rovers, Flyers, Miners and Skimmers. If you want an example of one of my personal meta Beginning Vanilla Skimmers, look-up the "(H2S) Hill Strider" on the Steam Workshop.
I've had SE for about a decade and had about 3 hours play time total in that decade. I just picked it up again and am now hooked thanks to your videos. I'm pretty much following along this series play by play, except I think I got really lucky on my planet because there is a jackpot of subterranean ores all around me as well as an ice lake within walking distance. Thank you for what you're doing.
I always watch new starting videos because every player likes to do things differently. Some build a base, some convert their pod, some do a bit of both.
You don't even need to grind it all the way down; grind it to below "Functional" and weld it back up to at least "Functional", and it still counts as having built the block. That applies to all blocks that are prerequisites to unlock other blocks.
Yeah i totally tried to run before i could walk with this game lol.. keen to follow this series as going back to basics is prob a good thing for me.. thanks for the vids learned some good stuff from u so far looking fwd to learning more 🙂
I landed in a sandy area and digged there. It took me minutes to fill up on stone and after about one hour I thought this cannot be right. I used my jetpack to get to a grassy area, dug down and filled my inventory in 20 seconds. So different ground types yield different amounts of stone.
Note: Stone is processed faster in the basic refinery, but yields less than the survival kit. As long as the bottleneck is mining the stone I use the survival kit. When more mining capability is obtained using ship drills, then the speed of the refinery wins.
0, you can't put a module on the basic refinery. The advanced refinery has the same rate of conversion for stone as the survival kit, but at a much greater speed. He's saying if you're still hand mining using the survival kit is better since you get more yield per kg of stone, but if you're running a miner the basic refinery is going to do better since you'll process more stone faster being that you acquire more stone with a miner.
Dude, I've had this for years, but i'm a dad of two and never got over the initial frustration but now the kids are older I've got time to commit and literally today got to the "assembler complete" stage. Torch server.
Subscribed, Lunar. I am generally very slow to sub, because I've been using TH-cam since 2006, and I am trying to keep my list from becoming unmanageable. But I've been watching a lot of your videos recently, so I felt it was time, now.
I find the space pod to be the easiest start imo. Depending on what's "on" you mostly need to stock up on ice before you try anything... otherwise you start off in a large grid ship, while all others have you on small grid. I normally grind every armor/decor block down to being the ship to a skeleton, keeping everything else. Eventually I make it into an amalgamation of a starter ship and a grind ship. Lastly: I find growth, or "getting somewhere" so easily I find myself overextending.
i already knew this as i have done 2000 hours but it is really good for revision as i had forgotton how to use the build planner after being in hospital a while you explain slowly which is great as well
The start of the game is really fun for me. and I usually try to see how fast I can do it. The current one I am playing I changed things up a bit. I said, Europa start no jetpack, no third person view no sling shotting to mars using atmo thrusters. Stay on Europa and build the ship there.... Lets say it was interesting....
I am totally, completely new to this. I am blatantly copying until i know what's going on. A little frustrating with controller config at times, but amazing game and guide!
Hey man, first of all, i just started watching the video so maybe i edit my comment later^^. (i will note that) I did see a short of the game but never heard of it before so i started diging and one dude made a "review 2024" video to space engineers but talked strange about it so i went to the comments to look and there i found you, because the dude ripped you footage without credit... aaaaaanyway, here i am now and i will watch this series to get a hang of it because my son wnats to play this game with me :--) at the moment it sounds like a mix of minecraft and kerbal :D
Hey Lunar, have u considered implementing this in the survival world, as in letting this take place in the same star system so at the end you could connect this „world“ to the survival series.
i actually prefer mars to start. the ore deposits are much easier to spot, the terrain is much more suited for rovers and there are no ice lakes to easily get enough ice to get off planet
UI shown in this video is completely vanilla but a few good ones are colorful icons which makes all icons have color, example ores and components. And I used to use this mod called Norca Engineers HUD - Coloured

Bro I’m also so excited because I’m gonna be able to buy me a computer in the summer holidays
The nostalgia I just got from the Minecraft "Survive and thrive" reference
Paulsoaresjr was the guy who taught me and all of my siblings how to play minecraft back in the day

Literally my childhood watching the survive and thrive series, very nostalgic
This 30m video have almost everything I took 40h+ to find out all by myself.
My gosh, thank you 👏👏👏
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if u get stuck
I love how everyone’s doing beginner friendly series atm :)
Nice one. Good to see you doing a ground-up scenario :)
Update: As of Contacts the unknown signals are more of a Teal in color instead of green.
Hey new series nice
Not only am I happy to find a newer Space Engineers playlist - BUT a fellow IJKL left hander!!!!
Ah, a fellow left handed enjoyer, I know the pain
amazing if you dont play for a while how you forget things this was a good refreshener

As long as the bottleneck is mining the stone I use the survival kit.

how many yield upgrades are required to get the same value from stone in the refinery as from stone in the survival kit?

Hey Lunar, have u considered implementing this in the survival world, as in letting this take place in the same star system so at the end you could connect this „world“ to the survival series.
I've not actually, that would be interesting but maybe a bit difficult to balance as I have mods and such on the other play through that spawn drones
Paul Soares Junior and same 😉
Just so other noobs know, on Xbox it's called home world, I didn't have the dlc, so I got confused when I saw triton and couldn't find that spawn.
51% installed, here we go again.
I miss the big bulky lander thing of old SE, hoping it'll be in the workshop....

I'm left handed and juts play with the right handed controls
You could be more ambidextrous than fully left handed.
better to build the basic refinery and assembler first. its a lot faster than the survival kit. otherwise a great tutorial
I have been playing Space Engineers for over 150 hours, and I have never encountered a single pod. - Are they not on the console?
