- Hey guys, in this video, I talk about how to Record 1 hour 4K videos on the Xbox Series X and some of the things you'll need to setup to get it working. I do go on tangents but explain issues you might come up with. Hope this helps :)

Console launches tomorrow. I'm sure people want to know how to record long videos in 4K SDR and 4K UHD, so here goes. Do remember you will have issues if you're gonna edit HDR videos in Adobe. That's all. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure that you're seeing SDR on premiere just bc that mini player tab is simply set to do playback at sdr,but the actual footage is being edited and exported in HDR. So dw about that.
Though please, tell us if you can record through the series X DVR 4k HDR 120 fps (new Ori)

Yo if you already formatted your external hardrive for your PC or for your Xbox will not work? Because you said any external hard drive can work... But i tried using the external hardrive from my pc and it wont read it cuz its formatted. And the other one i have for xboxonex is already formatted to the xbox software.. So would i need a new hard drive and NOT FORMAT IT???

Hey did you solve the problem with HDR in Adobe? For me, it is the complete opposite of your problem. My video is way to bright and if I look on the raw footage it looks good -.-

Actually, on PlayStation you can record for 1 hour maximum. Now I can record at (2160p 60fps HDR) hahahaâæ!
I agree. The Xbox software programmers I think aren't very good or just don't care. For years now their dvr has had problems, like out of sync audio or even no audio at all. Or clips that only record for 4 seconds. I'm an Xbox Insider to get their alpha builds but they just plain don't care. They never even post in forums, probably its outsourced workers from another country for cheap labor.

Question brother. First off, liked your video. Thanks for sharing. I have a Series X with a LG CX. I have an external 3.0 USB 64GB to upload videos and put it on TH-cam. I do not believe my computer is a 4KUHD. Is it recommended that I set my tv to 1080p at 60hz or 1080p at 120 hz. Should I record at 1080p or 720p? When I record at 4k @ 120hz I can see the video on Xbox clearly but when I put it on my pc it gives me an error code and the screen is pitch black but has audio. Can you give me some insight?

I just setup my seagate usb drive on my series x console, to use it for captures and shares I had to format it to ntfs on my pc before it would work. It does now work for captures and saves but I can still only record 30seconds on 4k 😔

Whenever I record from my Xbox to the external hard drive I can't play the video on my windows laptop it says the video codec is wrong and uploading to TH-cam takes forever to process.

i recorded 2 xbox360 games the same way by USB
Ninja Gaiden 2 and Mortal Kombat 9
the NG2 recorded in 4K
and MK9 only did 1080p

Yes you can if you change your settings it has a replay function

You have to start recording in advance.
what storage device are you using to record?
Whenever I press record it says recording started but it doesn’t actually record anything. I can take screenshots and it works but for some reason it won’t let me record any footage

So if your formatted it correctly you need to put media when xbox asks you what you want it for also I think it needs to be 3.0 and 128 gb minimum

I cant record my games at all i check The settings are all fibe nothings off irs so wierd im pressed start record nor record what happend it Tells me I did it but I didn't get no recordings at all. So if I start recording. It will not show the timer that start recording even if i'm in game
Hm yes, but the question is how do I record last 15 minutes of what happened when I just had a nice game of Apex Legends etc. I used to do this on PS4 all the time, but doesn't seem possible on Xbox? I only want to save the 1% of the games where I actually do something interesting..

I really don't mind 4K since I have a crappy pc and it's hard to edit at 4K.
But on Xbox One X it only let you record @60fps if you're at 4K.

I have just bought 2TB external HDD 3.0 USB and plugged it into Series X, and it doesn't see it at all.... :( any ideas what might be the reason? I already copied there some files - like private photos, music, documents, etc - so it's not formatted - can that be the reason?

Yes, as long as it’s NTFS format.

So I formatted both my old HDD & brand new SSD to NTFS & it’s still locked at 1080p 30sec & 4k 30sec.
I reset my console 4 times & it still won’t let me record more than 30sec?

did they change something? I have a 256GB flash drive and it only lets me record 1 minute. I play on my 1440p monitor so it only lets me record in 1080 (why dont they support 1440?) and I know 1 hour of 1080p doesnt use up that much space. I went with the 3.1 thumb drive just for convenience of dropping it into my computer.

@@White_Polar_Bear no answer. Seems 1080p is it for recording unless i had a 4k display and could set XSX to 4k. Skipping 1440 option is really odd.

@@White_Polar_Bear I couldnt answer that. I play my XSX on a 1440 gaming monitor that does not have HDR (High dynamic Range)

Also Id suggest moving the capture panel directly left or right of the home panel.
Hdr does look muted because u need to change the project settings on the editing app so it can see it as an hdr. It took me a while till I learned those color conform settings on final cut pro. Im on mac. Never really tried xbox cod I dont have one but deffo its the same. It was looking muted my ps5 recordings with hdr as well. Completely same issue. Just put the videos color conform format to hdr pq or hlg then ure golden. Ofc idk what hdr format xbox records. U might need to use ffmpeg and figure out the captured footage hdr version then use the same project settings on ur editing app of ur choice the same hdr version. Then export it with hlg hdr. Basically project hdr format needs to be the same as recording and then u color conform it to hlg then export it.

You can format it to exfat and it should recognize it.
@@Rubhen925 so I just replugged my external hardrive from my pc i use to capture games on my elgato and it worked on my Xbox series x no problem without having to format it😊. Thanks alot. The reason why im doing this is because i love playing on my big screen 4k tv instead of my small monitor that is still 4k UHD. I myself am a youtuber and i have a channel but this helps alot because i hate using twitch in order to upload on Xbox stream videos. The quality downgrades so bad. Thanks alot fellow TH-camr/Gamer
What i want to know is, how big are the hour long files in 2k and 4k? because in 1080p hour long clips are roughly 3.5gb to 4.2gb.
I’d say around 30-50gbs for 4k
It more or less depends on which game you're playing. Some of my videos I recorded on my pc, were about ten gigabytes big, while titles like Fallout 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 with heavy enb's installed, were twenty gigabytes big.
So in short, it depends on which game you're playing. 👍🏻

Mine still says up to 1 minute after formatting it to ntfs, and saving for pictures, music and video.
I saw many ppl here asking about how to record with a flash drive and nobody paid that any attention! it's a very practical solution yet it doesn't provide a good image for some reason, I always capture my gameplays with it and although it's 4K the picture still lack color saturation and sharpness!! So is there any suggestions for good flash drives maybe or other good capturing methods?
When you record 4K / HDR you need to adjust the video in the editing software you use. Depending on your editing software, there are ways to do that. If it's a long video, I wouldn't even bother. Just record in SDR and you will be able to retain the sharpness and saturation. To be clear, what you experience is how the Xbox records, this has nothing to do with your storage.

I have a USB 3.0 (32gb) Thumbdrive... I formatted it into NTFS and the series x allowed me to set it as the capture location but it refuses to record an hour, or record at all, so when I went through the settings it mentioned 128gb or above for recording 1hr.. so, I bought a USB 3.1 (128gb) thumbdrive, Formatted it to NTSF and it still won't record even 30sec to it even though I also set the capture location to it.. any thoughts why this might be? I even restarted my Xbox to see if it worked and it didn't.. works really well on the one x.. but not series x
I would just get a much bigger external hard drive at that point(1TB or higher).
@@mitu123Copper I forgot to add that I fixed the problem.. I had to "factory reset" my Xbox series X to get the 128GB Flash drive to work as intended.. I guess there was a software bug that only a reset could fix, but yes, I am thinking about getting a larger hdd but so far the only other problem I'm having now is the video and audio harshly desyncs, haven't solved that one yet apart from syncing it back up through a video editor that I don't wish to spend several hundred dollars on.. for now
I've also noticed that Source HDR videos is still not recognized by TH-cam.. only uploads in 4k without hdr and then has some color artifacts due to information not having been correctly encoded
I just make montages so this is perfect, 30 seconds is enough, thanks :)
