The Pedestrian was developed by studio Skookum Arts and was first released on Steam in January 2020. The game finally made its way to PlayStation 4 and PS5 a year later on January 29th 2021. The commentary in this episode is provided by Daniel Lackey (Artist), Jed Lackey (Programmer), and Logan Hayes (Audio designer).
The Pedestrian is a challenging side scrolling puzzle platformer. You play by rearranging and reconnecting public signs in order to explore its dynamic 3D world.

You can spend thousands of hours playing the game, doesn't mean they take time enjoying the game. Their goals is to get the fastest play, not to enjoy the game.

@@mineralwoteh9059 most speedrunners have loved the game and played through it normally many times before speedrunning. Also speedrunning counts as enjoying the game.

I was surprised because I've been following this game 's development since 2017 and the game has been released for over a year now
Exact same thing happened to me with superluminal
Try it out. It’s actually legitimately beautiful and mind shattering game. At the train, you’re supposed to put in a specific code, where it will take you to the next section of the game, and then you’ll come back to the train, punch in a new code and go somewhere else, but apparently the devs allowed players to punch in any code for any section, so this speedrunner skipped the majority of the game.

That's the thing, the speed runners have played so many times, they don't need to stop and smell the roses. They already have.... Its a compliment for sure, not an insult
Im pretty sure they just read forms and watched other speed run vids. Hes probably never even seen any of the levels he skipped in this run.

I swear this is the best game concept I've ever seen, it's a game about that thing everyone did as a kid with their imaginary little stick dude out the window of a car

speedruners spend a lot of hours looking at every single detail to make the run as efficient as posible
every minute of development work is appreciated and carefully analyzed
Kinda sorta usually,comes down to a collective of people random experience that where a bug or a freak accident that created a faster time in an area. Just comes down to a person who’s half decent at the game to pick all that fastest methods together and play the game. Dark souls one is the prime example before the sen glitch was found the best time was roughly an hour. I respect speed runners for there time just hate when there videos get crazy traction and are the first things to pop for a game.
There is a little insult to skip all the scenery and stuff they all put effort into I guess. But at the same time these speedrunners are people who have dedicated a lot of time to the game and in a way it's flattering to the developers for someone to spend so much time and effort into playing your game to play it as fast as possible.

Also speedrunners generally only run games that they really enjoy and don't mind putting 1000's of hours into. If they wanted to insult the game then they wouldn't speedrun it, and would run a game they enjoy more instead.

love devs who appreciate speedruns of their game. like yeah, you spent a lot of time making it for people to enjoy so you want them to appreciate it but...you made it for people to enjoy and sink time into and, honestly, speedrunners spend the most time and appreciate all the intricacies the most

This game is such eye candy. Feels like there's a real lived-in world surrounding the puzzles. Also, I think speedrunners would be valuable personnel to hire on as playtesters if that's not a thing already. Then devs can work with trusted members of the community to decide what glitches/tricks need to be ironed out and which ones can be left in for runners that won't break the game for the average player.
Devs really need to remember most the people who chose to run their games are usually massive fans who played through their game multiple times; not to mention observing every aspect of it's design with the intention of playing it MORE.
They didn't ignore anything; they've seen it a million times.
It's a statement of love.
It would be neat to have them meet the speedrunner right after they react.

MooseSR's speedrun video has less than 100 views atm on MooseSR's channel....
probably because a. most people never heard of the game and b. compared to other speedruns with crazy stunts, exploits etc, this one is kinda unspectacular; he's playing the game as intended, just with no wasted movements.

Every one of these videos has people saying "oh THESE devs are so great, they are happy for the speed runner. OTHER ones get so mad" uhh give me ONE video where the dev is pissed off at the speedrunner on this channel. Come on now.
Usually those devs dont do reaction videos, they just get mad at speedrunners online and patch out speedrun tech for no reason, call speedrunners cheaters, etc.

Just beat it on Xbox thanks to Game Pass. Super neat game, perfect Game Pass addition. Loved the final sequences. Took me a bit over 4 hours.

As a speedrunner of other games, I wanted to respond to the comment about how it's an insult as well as a compliment. It may seem like we're skipping all the hard work you've put in and the small details, but truth be told no one spends more time in the game (other than developers) memorizing every detail, learning every path, and enjoying the general gameplay than speedrunners. I speedrun Portal 2 and I know more about that game than anyone who has just played it through casually! So please don't be offended, lol
That's why studios should hire speed-runners as QA! We had a couple external testers that were all speed-runners, insanely talented and they can replicate the bug/issue 100% of the time.
After looking further, this was months worth of effort from a big community
The attention to detail in the world built around the signs here makes me wonder which of the devs has experience in that type of work environment. Often in video games, things are too clean or too purposeful in areas like that, but they absolutely nailed the look and feel of manufacturing / warehousing. Just the little idiosyncrasies of peoples work stations, how there is just random cleaning equipment and forklifts parked everywhere, "borrowed" office furniture, stick notes on everything, etc...

Honestly, one of the best puzzle games I I've ever played. Very challenging, but never do much that you tear out all your hair from frustration.

Started watching this then realised it's such a unusual game that i stopped watching very quickly and went off to see if it was on PS4 i ended up buying it and spending the last few days absorbed in the puzzles, my goodness what a wonderful game. The music is so nice & that last level left me with more questions about the whole story behind the technology behind jumping from sign to sign.
And now i'm back to see how someone does it fast.

really great game with excellent puzzle design, not overly easy but nothing that actually stumped me until the final puzzle on the rooftops. really great escalation of the difficulty curve throughout and it hits the sweet spot for number of levels/gameplay hours
It's no insult.... Speedrunners spend more time replaying your game than any other casual players ever will. It's simply a compliment.
