- Spelunky 2 is a pretty tough game. But if you know it well, are just trying to get to the end, and are amazing, then it's actually pretty short. So ride along with Derek Yu (Lead Designer/Lead Artist), Micky Pascual (Lead Programmer), and Eirik Suhrke (Sound Designer/Composer) as they watch and react to speedrunner D_Tea's very fast Any% run, followed by an Eggplant% run (whatever that is, it sounds delicious).

most devs are probably average at their own games mostly since they wouldn’t want to play much after working on it all day ngl
Ikr one would think the devs are like gods at their own games, but really they're just mostly average

Average seems a bit harsh. Im pretty sure a large majority of players haven't even beat the game lol, idk who play tests them tho
@@tylazermk8271 usually streamers and speedrunners who follow the game very closely are the ones who end up finding most bugs and glitches, they also probably get early copies to test

It might have been from someone with an overlay in the recording or something
They said a seeded run would have the code at the top of the screen, so maybe the runner wanted to conceal whether the run was seeded? The devs went back and forth on whether it was seeded or not, top of the screen would have eliminated any doubt
@@luke889h They did confirm that it's not seeded though. Anyway, most likely to be a post-edit error or something.

That second speed run was way better then the first, great to watch. He's deff skillful at the game. Fun hearing devs explain how some things work too.

I've never played this game and im hella confused about what going on, the eggplant child? the egg with a chicken and a serpent? traveling to the moon? LOL

I'm fairly certain eggplant% was a thing in spelunky 1
I think its interesting insight hearing how much problem the devs have with the game aswell. Because obviously a lot of changes came from pretty much everyone complaining about stuff, but they probably also thought those things were broken but kept it in.

You totally should, it’s amazing, but beware: it’s REALLLLLLLLLLLY Hard, and speed running like this is even harder. Also, World 1 (the Dwelling) is way worse than all other worlds, and it will drive you insane.

i have a suggestion for this devs react video how about having the devs and speedrunner in the same call as the speedrunner does the run to have a type of back and forth commentary because is most of the videos the devs have so many questions they would love to ask the runners and i find it would be interesting. PS i would love to see a halo 2 dev react video and please upvote comment for better chance to have it seen by ign.

Wait eggplant percent is not only spelunky 2 its in the first one too less im being dumb but i thought it was in both games
it was technically a thing in the first game but because of how insanely hard it was and the lack of seeds in spelunky 1 it wasn't really a viable speedrun percent

14:10 (flaming corpse, the player model burned)

While only saving one damsel at 12:59 and not having the kapala.
Did the flaming corpse not deal 2 damage? Because if it did, the hit at 16:53 should have killed him. Is this why the footage was zoomed in?
Im pretty sure flaming corpses do 1 points of damage

This is the first one I didn't really enjoy, because the developers didn't say anything basically through the whole thing. No anecdotes, no stories about production, no complaining that they didn't even do certain things in the game.
Probably since this level of play isn't too surprising to them. Usually the developers are caught off guard and go off on their reactions
I'm not mad about it, just disappointed.

I still never beaten this game yet. I've never done any speesruns. I'm just full of curiousity of every single rooms in every stages. So far i only made it to the ice age stage. Still gonna explore that room 😂lol

It would be better if they made it so that you have to move 1 more block for the ice cave skip. That way there would actually be a risk for attempting it.

Lazy af on IGN's part. but entertaining.
I've never played the game so I can't speak to how it works for normal people, but it seems so strange to me that the devs would include something like a teleporter that seems like it can be abused to the point of basically not playing the game. Obviously to get away with a run like that it still requires a lot of knowledge of how the game works, but still, I'm just confused by it a little. Is the teleporter in most people's hands a not hyper OP tool? Is it just this player?
It's a gamble
teleporter teleports you 4-8 blocks in the direction you hold. Most people just dont understand the teleporter so they dont bother using it
If you don't know how it works, it's purely garbage
If you slip up even once it will instakill you, so it's definitely not OP for the majority of players.
