If the NBA let Chris Paul get traded to the Lakers, James Harden wouldn’t be a Rocket

  • David Stern infamously blocked a trade in 2011 that would have sent Chris Paul to the Lakers, altering the course of NBA history. Paul ultimately ended up in Los Angeles but in a Clippers uniform. The rest of us were left wondering what could have been.

    • @theOnyFUFU
      @theOnyFUFU 5 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      lol...Well the Hornets (now Pelicans) would've gotten the short end of that deal & would never have had a pick high enough to get Anthony Davis. David Stern was acting as the GM of that team while they didn't have an owner. I think it was the best move for New Orleans.

    • @ritvikdutta4824
      @ritvikdutta4824 5 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      Fawad B In hindsight, of course. But the very premise of Stern’s argument is flawed and despite having AD they ultimately are in the same situation, with AD eventually wanting to demand the trade.

    • @theOnyFUFU
      @theOnyFUFU 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I'm not talking about the reasons Stern gave. The fact is that he was acting as GM of the Hornets cuz team was owned by the NBA. The Pelicans were not getting anything to build a future in this Lakers-Houston deal. They were getting washed up players & everybody know how Rivers has turned out. Do you remember Odom in Dallas? He ended up sulking the entire time cuz he wanted to be back in LA and was cut by the team after like 4 games!

    • @RuiRuichi
      @RuiRuichi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Basically he ensured that the Pelicans would had a good sale value when they sell the team. Nobody wants to buy a team without any value aka superstar aka Chris Paul at that time. I doubt Benson would have bought the team if Chris Paul wasn't there.

    • @RuiRuichi

      Yep, one of the worst decision ever.
      I know people talk about how Harden wasn't a star then... but they probably weren't watching. Harden was pretty much like Manu, an obvious starter coming off your bench. It gave OKC the ability to keep scoring with their second unit. He was scoring like 16ppg with a great FG% and very low minutes.

      I don't think they would have made the playoffs. Odom would have had the same problems he had with the Mavs after the Lakers sent him there, wouldn't be any different with the Hornets. That lineup would be fun to watch but wouldn't have any defense and if my memory is correct, Ariza wasn't with the Hornets for long.

    • @robertspinks9509
      @robertspinks9509 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That squad would suck that's why that trade got vetoed dragic wasn't what he is now which isn't really much martin would be the best scorer at 20 maybe they wouldn't gave had a bench either they would a sucked

    • @Supermariohoops24
      @Supermariohoops24 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruno S. Well Dragic was only 2 seasons away from the year he made 3rd team all nba and won Most Improved (when he was with Phoenix) but he could’ve had better numbers then if he got more of a chance then. Martin could put up 20 PPG easily as you said, Odom just the season before put up 14-8-3 en route to winning 6th man of the year. Scola came off a season averaging 19-9, Okafor was basically a double-double guy, and Ariza would get you his typical 10-12 PPG on good shooting splits. Not to mention they had Jarrett Jack, who gave you 15-6, and Marco Belinelli, who has provided about 10 PPG every season in his career. They also had Carl Landry and Jason Smith, who would be solid backup bigs that could both rebound and provide a solid scoring punch. Lastly, they had Greivis Vasquez, who was never a good starting PG, but a nice backup. That’s 11 guys that are capable of averaging 10 PPG as well. I’m not saying they would win a championship or they might have even still missed the playoffs, but they would be a nice all-around squad. They somewhat resemble the Nuggets of last season (Not this year bc they look like serious threats) because both teams would be bad defensively, but have a plethora of scoring options, as well as plenty of candidates on their team to be injured. The only difference is that the Nuggets are extremely young as well, whereas this Hornets team wouldn’t be old, but isn’t young either, and would probably sit about the middle of the league in average age.

      Na its rigged
      Did you really think that Magic Johnson got lebron james on the lakers and luol deng 7.5 millions dollars cashback in the buyout to free up the lakers for another superstar all by himself?
      Aww how cute
      *Jerry West The NBA Logo himself* is the first draft pick in the relocated Los Angeles Lakers franchise and was with the organization as a player, coach, Player Scout/Player Recruit, General Manager for over 40 years. Oh and did I mention that Jerry West has a undisclosed ownership in The Warriors since 2011 and becoming part of their management the same year. Now Jerry West is with the Clippers While Magic Johnson is managing the Lakers
      To Be Continued...
      David Stern, Adam Silver, and the refs are only 3/4 of the Rigging and corruption since the 80s. The last one that no one talks about is The *NBA Logo* himself.
      Under his reign Lakers won 8 Champs going back to the 80s and helped them get 2 more even after he lefted. Lakers has 16 champs and Jerry West had his hand in 10 of them from behind the desk. Jerry "The NBA Logo" West is the guy pulling all the lever behind the curtains. I guess you can call Jerry West The Wizard of Oz of the NBA. David Stern, Adam Silver, and the Refs are his partner's in crime. If you include Lakers and warriors together during the "Jerry West Era" he is responsible for 13 Championship.
      3 with the warriors
      10 with the Lakers(Memphis)
      Jerry West The NBA LOGO himself created this warrior dynasty. He also created the Kobe shaq run and the show time lakers of the 80s. The superteam choked 1981 1983 and 1986 all as defending champs. Dont forget about the Tragic Magic Johnson year or what about 2002 and does 2004 ring a bell. Choking 73-9 almost losing to the rockets in 2018 but got saved by NBA ref Scott foster just like 2002 when Kobe and shaq got saved by the ref. Or what about the years when it was 4 HOFer vs 1 HOFer Dr.j in 1980 and 1982. Does that sound so familiar to the warriors superteam vs lebron.
      Jerry West created the Magic Kareem Show times Lakers dynasty. Jerry "The NBA Logo" West was able to talk Shaquille O'neal into leaving The Orlando Magic with the promise of Hollywood fame/money and "champs". Then trade for Kobe Bryant to be his wingman and leave for Memphis while leaving lakers Mitch kupcake in good hands. Kobe who was going to be no one's wing man runs off "fat"shaq (squeakiest wheel gets the oil) and sounded like a female after a bad breakup
      Kobe-"I'm independent"
      next three years he doesn't even get out of the first Rd. We get to see what kobe really was, a high volume scorer hell bent on catching Michael Jordan.
      Realizing that his prime will only last so long, kobe demands trade and in response The lakers (with my best straight face on) trade *kwame brown contract* , second round 48th draft pick, and 2 throw in to Memphis for a current allstar center in Pau Gasol. Marc gasol was years away from helping kobe and still a unproven European player. This was a risk for the Griz not the Lakers. Who is the guy in the Memphis management that helped this lopped sided trade go through? None other than Jerry "The Logo" West himself. The same guy who created the Shaq kobe duo. He had to fix the lakers mess by sending another allstar center to the Lakers rescue and help kobe win two more champs without Shaq.
      "What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension," said Popovich. "There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."- Gregg Popovich
      Then Jerry West went to the Golden State Warriors and used his "influences" to create another money making machine and played a key role in getting Kevin Durant the snake/cupcake to sellout and leave OKC. Shaq leaving the Magic is nothing compared to choking a 3-1 lead and joining your enemy in the same conference who had a 73-9 record.
      Jerry "The NBA Logo" West is the one who got Klay Thompson for the warriors in 2011. He would turn around and trade Monta Ellis *Kwame Brown contract* and a third player for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson which who they traded days later (ironically to the spurs) for a first round draft pick...wait what? A washed up Stephen Jackson for a top 7 first round pick? oooooook.
      "but the warriors are good at drafting!!!"
      if you say so little kid. Then the warrior's would tank and hit their most famous draft class the very next year in 2012 and use that roster to tweak future roster. Go ahead and scream coincidence. I sure remember the warriors fan screaming and booing the owner during Chris Mullin jersey retirement for that Trade. This night happens only once in Chris life and warriors fans showed their true class act...
      by booing
      They kept booing even after when Chris and Rick Berry grab the Mic and told the warriors fans to stop it. Even with Jerry West there to give them clearance to "great drafting" the "Greatest Team of all time" still needed the ref and injuries to opposing teams Stars to "earn" their last 3 champs.
      Everyone knows that the NBA rigged another warriors vs cavs Finals. In fact Tim Donaghy has made over 120 calls to his bookie while fixing games during his last season alone as a Ref in the NBA before he got busted by the FBI for fixing games and had to serve jail time. FBI also found out that he made over 130 calls to Scott Foster 150 to Thomas Martino. With most of these calls lasting no more than a few minutes before or after games that he had officiated. Who would the NBA assigned to the warriors vs Rockets game 7???
      Scott Foster
      Rockets are 0-6 in the postseason when Scott Foster officiates the games. Where were the warriors in the 80s 90s or even the 00s? They needed help to "earn" their last three champs Sad but True. warriors dynasty? lakers dynasty?
      *The "The NBA Logo" Era is the real Dynasty of The NBA*

      Edward Brito
      Reasons why the Warriors have 5 all stars
      1. They drafted Curry, Thompson, and Green
      1. Curry ankles limited his contract hence why at 1 time, he has like the 5th or 6th highest contract on the team.
      3. Klay and Draymond both signed contacts after their first ring in 2015 and those contracts weren’t max contracts.
      4. They had a bunch of guys(Barnes, Lee, Bogut, Spieghts) that were going to be free agents after the 2015-2016 season. Warriors front office knew they would be setting up to get a max level player to continue their success of winning championships and going to the Finals. That’s why they went after KD in Free Agency and the rest is history.

    Eric Gordon was a young player who looked like a budding star (had just averaged 23ppg the year before). That is why the Clippers deal looked so much more enticing, even though Gordon's injuries ultimately kept him from becoming a star in the league.

    Not mentioned but a cool domino effect would be that if the Raptors don’t trade for Lowry then they keep their 2013 first round pick which they would’ve used on Giannis since they would’ve probably landed ahead of the Bucks since they no longer had a good second option with DeRozan and Masai Uijiri was linked to Giannis and even tried to draft him in reality.

      Yea, except, in your dream scenario, Chris Paul would have to actually be on the court to make that happen. As last season illustrates, Kobe in your dream is on the court while CP3 is cheering from the bench in a suit.

    • @ohhhyeahhh1174
      @ohhhyeahhh1174 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Super.average
      Kobe didn't declined? He declined because e got injured. In fact he played better at 34? He had his best season at 34? Dwight Howard got to the Lakers Injured in 2013 he was a shell of himself. The Lakers wanted to trade for Dwight in 2011 as well. If a healthy Chris and healthy Dwight and healthy Kobe would of players together Kobe would of rested a lot. Chris Paul could of taken over games in the season and Kobe would of turned it on in the playoffs. Chris Paul would of learned if anything he was hungry for a ring. One thing he hated about Shaq was that he was lazy. Chris was the opposite the man had great work ethic something Kobe respected. And also Jerry buss was still alive this wasnt magic or Jim buss making stupid moves. He was doing chess still one last team until he passed away a couple years later.

    The fact is that the NBA and stern wanted LeBron to take over the league. Sending Paul would have hurt LeBron and their money. There’s no reason to cancel the trade.
    The is especially obvious when you see this trade be canceled with the excuse of the league being balanced, but then letting LeBron completely bulldoze the league with super team after super team.

    Personally I think that if Lebron on the heat could give the thunder the business, then Kobe with help could also give them the business, especially since that would mean that he most likely doesn't get injured & according to Kobe out of all his seasons where he was just a monster, that season he tore his Achilles was his prime (before getting injured of course)... Though curry & harden would b kind of worrisome because both aren't very defensive & both like to create off the dribble (though curry can operate off ball at an elite level as well)... But the lack of defense from the back court would b frightening
