The buzzer-beating climax of the ‘90s Knicks-Heat rivalry needs a deep rewind

  • Alonzo Mourning versus his old college buddy Patrick Ewing and his old wingman Larry Johnson. Jeff Van Gundy versus his mentor Pat Riley and his brother Stan. Two teams that fought each other and the shadow of Jordan's Bulls dynasty. Oh right, and also a very weird 8 seed versus a 1 seed thanks to the NBA lockout. It was only fitting a series this dramatic would come down to one last shot.

The defense of today hasn't caught up yet to the offense of today, compared to the tougher no hand check defense of the 90s. Besides its just early in the season, this one had an ecf feel to it.

Two slow paced, defensive minded teams playing each other. Led to ugly, smash mouthed basketball. The pistons pacer conference finals series of 04 had even lower scores..i don't mind it though, the game had more character.

@@nunyerbizzness93 That's why, even though I started watching basketball relatively recently (2007), I've always been a fan of the slower-paced and lower-scoring games. Not to say there aren't characterful games these days, but I enjoy seeing two teams stepping up and clamping down on defense and really battling for each bucket rather than seeing teams outshoot each other and seeing who can get finally get a stop at the end, lol.

This was my favorite 1990's Eastern Conference rivalry. The playoff showdowns between these two teams were so dramatic, and ever, dare I say, ridiculous. The Heat/Knicks rivalry was the 3rd best rivalry of the 90's, behind the Suns/Supersonics rivalry, and the best rivalry was the Suns/Rockets rivalry.
    *Thoughts from a Supersonics fan*

Theses playoff series in the 90s eastern conference between Knicks/heat/pacers were so good. The drama on and off the court was next level. The grit, animosity, toughness and competitiveness was next level. You just don't see players in today's NBA care about the game like players use to. The game is so watered down now.

Nice vid Rewinder crew. You should consider Joe Crede's walk-off knock in game 2 of the ALCS between the White Sox and Angels. Crede was a clutch performer that year, and his hit was preceded by the high drama that was the "dropped third strike" that allowed an un-tagged A.J. Pierzynski to take first on a pitch that may have only nominally hit the dirt. The Angels were looking to go up 2-0 in a series that was heading home for them; instead they go on to loose the series and wouldn't make it back to ALCS until 2009. The game is also record-making; Sox starter Mark Buehrle went nine innings to get the win and the White Sox Go-Go on to win the series 4-1 on the strength of three more complete game victories hurled by their starters. The Sox eventually sweep the Astros in the World Series to break their 88 year title drought, but it all goes back to that moment in game 2 when Crede capitalized on AJ's heist of first base.
It's an overlooked moment that deserves a rewind, especially considering that this episode features a rare moment of glory for the 1990s most dependable big game losers of the decade, the Knicks; in a first-round playoff game.

This was one of the top five sports moments of my youth. The important thing is that the Heat only won in 97 because Riley sent PJ Brown out to start a brawl and get people suspended. Then the Knicks beat the Heat in the playoffs three years in a row to get revenge. So Riley and Brown can go suck on an egg. If I ever meet PJ Brown I'm going to tell him exactly what I think of him.

You guys should do a deep rewind of the 2010 College World Series. The two teams had so many MLB players. Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer on the Bruins just to name a few and Jackie Bradley Jr and Whit Merrifield on the Gamecocks just to name a few

Watching basketball players fight is absolutely fantastic unintentional comedy. It looks like a pair of drunken octopus fighting.

I don't know if you know anything about Rugby but a look at Japan v South Africa at the 2015 World Cup would be so worth it, one of the biggest upsets in sport history

Please do Stephane Matteau's double OT goal from 1994. So many storylines amongst the people on the ice for both teams in that moment.
