I met Ryan about a year or so ago at my local shop. He was extremely cool, very nice dude. He sat and talked to my little boy for like 10 minutes and I thought that was cool he took the time to do that. Solid dude.
Respect to him for coming out on the otherside a better man. Fame and the spotlight at that age does really terrible things to people. Glad that he got out of it and is now living a happy life. He absolutely shreds at skating.
I remember meeting him at the local skate shop (sunken city , San Pedro ca ) and he was a super cool dude . Played all the kids in skate doing the smallest tricks but being stoked . He pulled up in a Ferrari and let everyone who wanted to sit in it and check it out .

Ryan Sheckler is definitely one of the dopest pro skaters around I've ever seen. It doesn't surprise me how much hate he gets from people who envy him but other than skateboarding I have seen him do many incredible things in life as he was able to show what a good person he is. I'm very proud of his accomplishments he has achieved throughout his career as well through the mess he's been in with drinking. I didn't even know at first he had an addiction to alcohol when I saw how different looks now and it's good he was able to get himself straightened out as he's clean and sober. Props to Ryan for still skating and having the life he has now being married and a father to his kids.
The skate scene is so fucking hypocritical. They all want to become big names in the Industrie and get sponsors and make money and as soon as someone gets the opportunity and goes for it he becomes a sellout!
Ppl hating on riders in extreme sports goin “mainstream” is so childish as long as the sports being promoted and it’s getting more ppl into it nothin else matters
The story of dyrdek is crazy too was pretty much told he was to old to hang with the younger kids coming up skating. So he’s like I need a gimmick to sell my part and hired a bodyguard big black to protect him from security. Rest is history.
Never watched the show because it was during a really unwatchable era of MTV, but I'm glad to see he was one of the teens who didn't crash and burn from the Viacom junkie fratbro circus.
Remember seeing Ryan skate the Volcom ramp at FunFunFun Fest and he was smiling so big, he genuinely looked so happy. It was cool to see. He’s come a long way since Almost Round 3
Tony hawk started my love for skating when I was 6, but you got me back into it when I was 13 Ryan! Had like 3 of your pro models before I tried other brands. Been 15 years now. Hopefully you find some solace knowing it wasn’t a waste.
Sheckler would've made it with or without the show. I mean I remember in 2004 how much I looked up to someone like him. At that time he was super young. But his round 3 part was so insane. That gap to road is massive and he was small as hell at that time. I think MTV needed Ryan more than Ryan needed MTV. People like Ryan, Bam, Cole, Hawk were so massive in the early 2000s. Skateboarding was at its peak. I miss those days man. I can't remember the last time I've seen a pair of Falcons or Adios in store. People seem to forget with his age that Sheckler has put 20+ years into this sport & is a legend in this scene.
Mad respect to Ryan. He was real and made mistakes because he was a young . He accomplished a lot and went through a lot and still is a good dude no matter what
Sheck is why I stopped trying to go pro at skateboarding. I was like 21 when I saw a clip of him, like at 9 doing a kickflip indy that was like 10 ft high on a kicker, and I was like yeah, I think I should try another job. I spent years mastering tricks and this dude at 9 was better than me at 21. I kept skating as a hobby, but gave up on sponsorships etc. Dude was just born to skate.
I remember attending Ryan’s birthday party at a skatepark where Tony came. Believe it was in 96. I grew up with his uncle Shawn Scott. He used to tear it up on a big half pipe in his driveway.
Damn I reamber toung seen him so young killing the dew tours like a animal man it was insane so young so talented glad to see he good and stayed blessed
I remember being young and wanting to get into skateboarding of more than just a spectator but the toxic culture turned me away, one of the most confusing and annoying parts of the sport
Ryan confirmed my old thoughts about representation of skateboarding. Videogames represented skateboarding to me when I was a little kid. When Skate 3 came out in 2010, the industry started slowly dying. No dope games about it anymore. Tony Hawk's series was also finished as a gold era. Millions of fans asked for decade about decent well developed videogame about skateboarding, it had no result at all. I live outside of US and for me skateboarding lives in US mostly nowadays, not all around the world anymore.
I have so much more respect for Ryan. I wasn't a fan when I was a kid because of the reality tv stuff and all but man, I feel like such an asympathetic jerk in retrospect. I would have never fallen into any of those extremes he talked about but I'm remorseful for not giving him the respect he deserved. In the end, he came out on top. We've got a lot to learn from him
I met him in Malaga, where he ollied from a roof just to hype all the kids there, those he was attending one by one while cheering them up. Only for that he got all my respect and admiration. A true professional and nice dude. I hope we see you around one day, :)❤
I skated with him in a pro contest when he was 13 (he won BTW). We were the first 2 people on the course and we had it to ourselves for awhile a he seemed super nice and sweet. Didn't seem like a stuck up kid in the least. After there was an after party at a secret underground club and Ryan was a little kid and seemed so awkward and nervous, haha. On his board you forgot how young he was but in a party scene? Yeah, it showed.
To this day when I think of skateboarding I think of Tony and Ryan. Ryan u def brought the world of skateboarding to the masses. Never doubt that! Thanks broski
I never really watched his show but I definitely remember a time where he was seen as sort of a kook or douche bc of it. I never paid much attention to any of it bc that mtv main stream scene was so alien to me at the time. I've always loved sheks tho. He just needs to bring it down to earth
I believe that a blurb in Thrasher described it as Life of Cryin. I was a fan of Ryan and yeah I was kinda bummed it wasnt more about the skateboarding side of his life and tuned out after a few eps
Personally I think his biggset mistake was when he lied about doing the bs flip down El Toro. The MTV thing wasn't good, but I get how no one his age could have known what they where in for. Lying about having done something is a major sin in skateboarding and he knew it. I still think it is stupid to hate on him for any of those things, cause most people will never know how it feels to stand under that kind of pressure that young in life. He is one of the best skaters ever no doubt, and it seems like he has learned a lot since his teenage years. I wish him the best and I hope he rolls away from a lot of rad tricks in the future and shows us the footage.

I KNOW WHO I WAS AT 17 YEARS OLD. IF I HAD ALL THAT MONEY AND ALL THAT ATTENTION I DONT THINK I WOULD HAVE BEEN AS GROUNDED AS SHECK IS/WAS.
Jason was on one of my favorite radio shows Opie and Anthony with my favorite comedian Patrice O'Neal. Patrice O'Neal on O&A #104 , Weston4020
Respect the honesty
Maaannnn, good for this dude. Kept his head up and still striving. Fuck MTV and the NWO. Keep shredding man
People forget how good sheck was at such a young age
I remember attending Ryan’s birthday party at a skatepark where Tony came. Believe it was in 96. I grew up with his uncle Shawn Scott. He used to tear it up on a big half pipe in his driveway.
Damn I reamber toung seen him so young killing the dew tours like a animal man it was insane so young so talented glad to see he good and stayed blessed
Such a good guy, amazing skater
I remember being young and wanting to get into skateboarding of more than just a spectator but the toxic culture turned me away, one of the most confusing and annoying parts of the sport
Sheckler redeemed himself at the revere 16 bust or bail
Hated on him, but respected his skating.
Skater of the year 2023. Let's go thrasher
Dude on the right needs to shut up and let Ryan talk damn he keeps interrupting 😂
Crazy that grown ass men back then were hating on this dude for making it smh
Seeing Almost round 3 made me a Sheckler fan, were same age and I made fun of him too in the MTV days but I'm always excited to see him skate
I hated Ryan when he was on MTV. Once I actually learned a bit about him, man his my fav skater, I hope he comes back to sls and killlllllz
Bro at 2:11 when Ryan accidentally does Jason's accent and corrects himself sent me
I have so much more respect for Ryan.
I hope we see you around one day, :)❤
Let him talk 🤦🏼♂️
Still no clue who the old dude with head tattoos is lol
Sheckler was always a beast
Dude was my idol as a kid
I skated with him in a pro contest when he was 13 (he won BTW). We were the first 2 people on the course and we had it to ourselves for awhile a he seemed super nice and sweet. Didn't seem like a stuck up kid in the least. After there was an after party at a secret underground club and Ryan was a little kid and seemed so awkward and nervous, haha. On his board you forgot how young he was but in a party scene? Yeah, it showed.
Ive always liked sheckler. I was/am a rodney mullen disciple and he was with almost.
you guys interrupt eachother and the guest way too much
ryan sheckler has always been my favorite skateboarder ever!
He wouldn’t of done shit 😂😂 #ELTORO
Personally I think his biggset mistake was when he lied about doing the bs flip down El Toro. The MTV thing wasn't good, but I get how no one his age could have known what they where in for. Lying about having done something is a major sin in skateboarding and he knew it. I still think it is stupid to hate on him for any of those things, cause most people will never know how it feels to stand under that kind of pressure that young in life. He is one of the best skaters ever no doubt, and it seems like he has learned a lot since his teenage years. I wish him the best and I hope he rolls away from a lot of rad tricks in the future and shows us the footage.
that was rob dyrdek not ryan sheckler
