That water tower Ollie makes my palms sweat every time even though I’ve seen it numerous times and I know what the outcome is. Most iconic Ollie ever. Nothing will match it.
Yep. The reason no one is like "hey I'm gonna jump this thing and make a name for myself" is coz no one is crazy enough to think they are good enough. Only Jeremy is good enough
The fact that Jeremy did the Water Tower AND filmed for the trick tips video in one day... teaching kids how to skate, and dropping one of the gnarliest hammers of all time... gotta love that.
His trick tips videos were so good. Other skaters who did them were terrible. They are probably so used to doing the trick that they just have a "feel" for it, so they can't explain how to do it at all. One guy was trying to explain a hardflip, and was like "you kind of do a flick outward motion with your front foot... and the board will go between your legs like this *rotates board lazily*... then you catch it." Jeremy knew exactly how to explain the tricks he showed.
Not sure if Jeremy Wray knows how many people he inspired. I remember being a 6 year old kid in some cow village (Kuhkaff) in Germany watching this clip on THPS 1 in 1996 and thinking: "This is wizardry but it's real and if this guy with the baggy jeans can do it, so can I". Got my parents to buy me a board and started skating. Met the best people, had the best time, had the worst injuries, don't regret one shred of it. Jeremy, you are THE man.
Same! His ollie specifically in thps got me into skateboarding. Watching it in slow motion as a 411vm clip unlocked after completing whatever that challenge was in the game blew my mind as a 9 nine year old.
I LOVE that Atiba photo of Jeremy & the triple set. We used to skate the double all the time back in the day & we’d stand on top of the triple & say it was impossible. Jeremy Wray was Superman for landing that.

Brother I'm only 9 mins into this video and I'm so fascinated by all the stories and names the guys tell. I'm like 33 now and never got to land any Ollies, maybe 1 day.
IMO the water tower gap is the most insane. The factors if you don't make it.. The effort it takes to do each attempt, having to jump across each time after climbing up, a 40ft drop if you fall.. it's so impressive
I love that the guy who did the sketchiest ollie in skateboard history ends the video by saying, "stay safe out there people." What a bunch of humble legends these two are.
Watching all this really makes me wish I could still skate. I miss always searching the canvas for a fun spot to drop in on. I can remember being by myself with no one around and trying crazy stuff that no one would ever even see. It was just all about skating.
That was heart warming to see Jeremy and Jaws discussing their own - and each others sublime submissions and contributions!!! 2 different but equally unfathomable forces of nature when it came to pushing the limits of what has been possible to achieve on some wood with some wheels attached.... Thought J Wray's colour part intro ollie could have been included too just for the freakish distance, but I think like Jaws I can appreciate they simply both have too many mind blowing examples to recall - their CV's are stacked full of obscene stunts :D what a fantastic piece Storied!!!
That Jeremy quad set was in my high school! No lie, no one would ever think about ollieing that front quad set. It is massive and even took a while to walk up and down it! We always hung out on those side concrete slabs. Kicking it and would never imagine anyone ollieing that thing. In person it is massive!
Jaws is a monster. Jeremy Wrays water tower gap was and is legendary but so was so many of the tricks he had documented. I’m old and nostalgic about that era of skateboarding.
The Jaws block spot is in Louisville, KY in waterfront park. I drive by there 4-5 times a week. Went to go look at it once after seeing the clip, that gap is insane. Those big block steps are much higher than they look on film.
I agree with jaws. The best ollie would have to be one where you risk death. Kind of like how the most famous climber is alex honnald and rightfully so

I haven’t seen most of these guy’s in over 20 years it’s crazy, didn’t even recognise Mark Appleyard, I used to love the vids these guys banged out absolute legends..
If we count vert, I remember a fakie ollie from Tony Hawk in 1989 that is the sickest thing I have ever seen IRL. Don't think he ever did one like that on video ... He reached an almost weightless state over peoples heads.
The fact I've seen the water towers ollie makes me believe that's probably the most famous one. I've never really been a fan of skateboarding, always a BMX fan but I have so much respect for skateboarding and that ollie over the water towers was insane! Jaw's is insane as well though, had I seen those back in the day I'd be saying they were tied haha. No way my legs/back could take any of those landings. Different breeds for sure!
Was the water tower height really 40 feet? Over 12 meters? 😱The video does not do it justice. Anyway, definitely the gnarliest ollie ever! Although when I saw the video of Jaws jumping down the Louisville blocks, my first thought was - ok, this is an animation, there is no way that's real.
I thought it was funny when jaws was like “I couldn’t die on mine”. I was just thinking, Aaron YOU ABSOLUTELY could have died from some of those drops! 🤣 an accidental wack to the dome at that St Louis set(for instance) would surely put his lights out.
I was always the one among my friends that could ollie the highest. When my friend group expanded out we met Greg and he could also ollie super high. It became an unspoken rivalry between us. It's the best thing to push people to strive harder when you meet someone at your level.
Leap of Faith, Lyon 25, El Toro ,HollywoodHigh over the Fence and much more to come... 😅 I've tried the Leap of Faith on my Cali trip back in the days.. never gonna do that again 😮
Note that, originally, the 'melon grab' was originally called 'ollie mellon' (or 'ollie mellon grab'). Of course it's an ollie. The grab is a slight variation. But it's added. Bonus points, for sure.
@@CARPital I was citing Ronnie Creager, who says it in the video... Anyway, ask Jeremy Wray if he thinks the Water Tower ollie would have been easier with a grab.
@@CARPital From my experience, I can't imagine how it's easier even if you go down (but I'm no pro, sadly)... at any rate, I think it's definitely harder if you're ollieng a wide gap on flat.

Since I saw the jaws block Ollie clip and photo I’ve always considered that the most insane and biggest Ollie of all time. Idk if jaws will ever be outmatched. Absolute legend
💪🙌
Frankie Hill’s reminds of the famous Michael Jordan jump man photo. It’s not the biggest but it looks like he’s sitting on air,
Like time stood still.
Ha epic
I haven’t seen most of these guy’s in over 20 years it’s crazy, didn’t even recognise Mark Appleyard, I used to love the vids these guys banged out absolute legends..
🙌🙌🙌❤️
2:26 Aaron Hamokey 😅
👀
😂 I was looking for this comment
I love how I remember almost all these photos in the mail in catalogue CCS magazines. what a throwback, barely even remembered the skate mag 🤣
Epic
Bob Burnquist's ollie to fakie in the Dreamland part definitely deserves a mention
‼️‼️‼️
100% vert and bowl get no mention. It's street stroking each other off
If we count vert, I remember a fakie ollie from Tony Hawk in 1989 that is the sickest thing I have ever seen IRL.
🙌
Was the water tower height really 40 feet? Over 12 meters? 😱The video does not do it justice. Anyway, definitely the gnarliest ollie ever! Although when I saw the video of Jaws jumping down the Louisville blocks, my first thought was - ok, this is an animation, there is no way that's real.
So the legend goes!
🙌
Jeremy Wray’s is the most famous Ollie, but jaws is the most famous ollier
Not wrong
Leap of Faith, Lyon 25, El Toro ,HollywoodHigh over the Fence and much more to come... 😅 I've tried the Leap of Faith on my Cali trip back in the days.. never gonna do that again 😮
💪
Jaws 25 stair always was legendary to me
Yes
This is a friggin great video. Amazing olies, just legendary
Glad you enjoyed!
The simple fact that skating and internet were not connected at the time of Jeremy's Ollie, it's by FAR the sickest
Good point!
You are so wrong🤣🤣🤣
So glad to see Jamie Thomas at the very beginning of the video. When I grew up, Jamie Thomas was the authority on the top Ollie tricks.
Very cool!
Note that, originally, the 'melon grab' was originally called 'ollie mellon' (or 'ollie mellon grab'). Of course it's an ollie. The grab is a slight variation. But it's added. Bonus points, for sure.
‼️
Why Bonus? It makes the trick easier not tougher because you lock the board in
@@CARPital I was citing Ronnie Creager, who says it in the video... Anyway, ask Jeremy Wray if he thinks the Water Tower ollie would have been easier with a grab.
@@jdmresearch in the video they also say it's easier with a grab. I guess it depends if you ollie flat or somewhere down
@@CARPital From my experience, I can't imagine how it's easier even if you go down (but I'm no pro, sadly)... at any rate, I think it's definitely harder if you're ollieng a wide gap on flat.
The watertower is beyond sketchy. Imagine hitting a stop-rock right before the gap... J-Wray is a legend.
Nuts
jaws homaki the lyon 25- no substitute- HOWEVER- aurelian geraard did the same trick 2 years later
💪💪💪
Still got my watertower poster in the garage, one of my fave thrasher covers
Hell ya! Gotta get the board to match 😜
Frankie Hill Propaganda gap! 1000% not the biggest but the most iconic and groundbreaking ollie ever…
🙌🙌🙌
Keep these videos coming! My favorite it the Louisville blocks ollie.
Thank you! Will do
saying u gotta ollie to get into it is crazy. if someone kickflips that set are you gona say they ollied it? no your gona say they kickedfliped it
Haha yeah by that logic the 900 is the most famous ollie.
👀
Haha
I love the Storied series, thank you .👍
Thank you!
Gotta be Jace Detomasso Miami leap of faith 💯
True!
Your videos are pure gold
🙌🙌🙌
Water tower is definitely the one that sticks out in my mind, but my favorite part of this video was the story about snaking the Danny way helicopter pic 😂
