    Harder to find a job and harder to find a recruiter who won’t ghost you. I’ve had dozens reach out to me (based on my LI profile), I follow up with a resume (which is a detailed version of my profile) and crickets. After interview #1… crickets. #2… crickets. It’s a pattern for sure.

      That's just bad behavior on their part...especially after an interview.

    Job postings don't mean much. Half of them aren't even hiring. Another 10-20% get put on hold.

      Nobody posts a job that they don't plan to hire. They may hit internal obstacles before they can actually make the hire, but no posting is raised without an ultimate intent to hire.

      @@BetterThing-jobs I disagree. Some jobs are posted without any intention to hire. More job postings helps grow the company's stock prices and makes the company appear strong/thriving. Ask an insider about this.

    I am enjoying the real, actionable information you're sharing. While we all feel like the sky is falling when not working, the amount of clickbait out there is ridiculous. I appreciate the positive and realistic outlook.

    I'm in tech (or was in tech) and have about given up on finding another tech job (I was a QA Engineer). My background is in financial services and auditing, so I'm gonna try to pivot back to that. Between the ghosting by recruiters that reach out to you (I had one call this morning because he found me on LinkedIn, said I was good fit, and would send me the job description as soon as we got off the phone...and nothing since!) and the fake job postings (I've networked and found that many openings I've inquired about , they are not really hiring..), it's been ridiculous. I'm thinking of becoming a male escort....I'm gonna broaden my customer base to include women AND men so I can have a stable income LOL

      Well, whatever works I suppose! Happy to see you have kept your sense of humor through all the search frustrations. Don't give up. It can still happen for you. It is just harder and takes longer right now. Best of luck in your job search. If you start to feel down about this whole thing, watch this. One query i have - how to set boundaries with boss's extra work expectations from us at work how to deny working for more time without being rude if there's a good way ? Especially when there's a need for prove ourself in new environment..

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Decide how important that boundary is to you. I think if you can add value, you should find a way to do it. If it requires sacrificing time from kids or family or other personal obligations, you are well within your rights to state that and set the boundary. If it is taking away TV time or personal time, then I would invest that time in the new work and try to make a positive impression.

    A lot of TH-cam pundits are overlooking a big reason why there are so many layoffs in the tech industry, and I'm referring to section 174 of the US tax code. When the new law was introduced in 2017 it allowed tech companies to write off almost everything that they reinvested in the company, even if it amounted to what net sales were for that year. However, provision 174 required that software companies begin amortization for reinvestment cost over five to fifteen years, starting in 2022! So, if all of a sudden the tax man requires you to start paying taxes incrementally regardless of your reinvestment/R&D cost and percentage of sales, then the party is over. Over-hiring started right after the pandemic because of permissive tax breaks, but the chickens eventually came home to roost.

      @@BetterThing-jobs Plus the fact VC is gobbling up VARs and start ups isn't helping either. They're stripping things down to the bare minimum in order to secure a return on investment to share holders. Perfect storm.

    Could you explain apart from experience which factors impacts the most in getting a top paying salary job in consulting engineering industry or in general to start big without being stuck in average salary roles ? Also which kind of companies would be better pick for such a situation...

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is almost exclusively related to experience, so the question is a bit of a tough one. 95% is experience, but of the other 5%, it is usually how well you conduct yourself in the interview, if the team thinks you will fit into their dynamic, if you come across as a person who is sharp enough to pick up the special skills and processes within the organization.

    I want to see rigorous stidies on how many job postings are not truly available. Claiming they all equal one job available for immediate hire is the same the bs ways unemployment and inflation is counted and reported.
