David was like a chameleon. He played different colorful characters. I enjoyed his vocals on this song. And he sang about the perils of being what else famous!
Loving your discovery of Bowie and the dawning realisation of why he is so hyped. Virtually no-one likes everything he did but almost everyone likes something he did. Bowie was one of the true genius’s of rock where the hype is entirely justified.

@anabelle lei I always though so. I don't think it has the same impact on people today, but I can attest to the fact that in '73 when this was filmed, it wss quite the shocker for many. Daniel, you're becoming my favorite reactor. Your take is always thoughtful and your love of music shines through. Your parents did a nice job. This record was his biggest breakout hit in 1975. He was more of an underground artist in America until then. This is as his first number one. Many of his older records started selling. retroactively in America. I remember the song Changes became a hit in 1975... it originally was on his 1971 album Hunky Dory. I would LOVE your thoughts on that record. It really was the first brilliant Bowie album, from start to finish, in my honest opinion. Bowie was very different during this period. He was struggling to find himself. He had one hit in the UK, Space Oddity, originally released in 1969. Got to #5 Wasn't really a big hit internationally until, yep 1975. It hit #1 that year The Man Who Sold The World, 1970 was pretty cool, but it flopped. Hunky Dory began his upward trgectory. It was more a critical success ( it might be my sentimental favorite) and didn't really start selling until Ziggy Stardust came out the following year. Bowie jumped on the Glam bandwagon...arguably taking it to the next level. Bowie was buddies with Marc Bolan, front man and super star of the glam band T-Rex. Are you familiar with that artist, band, Daniel? T-Rex was the biggest band in the UK. in the early 70's. . Anyway, I wonder if you'll read this. I believe Bowie will be a huge favorite of yours soon. I can see how you're digging into Bowie's history. Best to just explore his music. Here are my suggestions to explore. 1. Hunky Dory. It's really his breakthrough and is a great jumping off point. It's a very eclectic, diverse, album. His genius really began here. 2. Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. This record launched him in Europe. He became huge there, but not so much in the US, we as a nation were not that cool yet. Bowie was considered too strange in 1972. He did gain fans though. 3. Pinups. Going back and forth between this and Aladin Sane (great record) Both came out in 1973. Pinups is a cover album, I think your followers will enjoy this record. It's mostly songs from 1965-67. Early periods from Pink Floyd, The Kinks Van Morrison's first band, Them and The Who, and a few others. You like riff rock and roll, this record is loaded with great riff rock. This is the last record to have his band that he used since Hunky Dory, so it's the end of an Era. 4. Station to Station 1976. This album is a masterpiece. Bowie was out of his mind on drugs, mainly cocain. So was his band, but the music from this record is spectacular. Prepare to have your mind blown. . 5. Young Americans It really is a gorgeous album. He tapped into American funk and soul and Bowieized it to perfection. Anyway, that's a lot to take in. Keep on rocking Daniel. Michael

There are so many incredible and incredibly different songs of David's to listen to, and any album you react to will give you something special. Everyone is giving you really good recommendations. I'd like to recommend something pretty different from what you've heard so far, and that song is David's version of Wild is the Wind. And for a second out there choice, listen to his cover of Jacques Brel's song My Death. You may be surprised, but you won't be disappointed. Thanks for another good reaction. You're learning a lot (and I'm not talking about music only) as you do this.
Bowie changed and grew as each decade passed, always right there on the cutting edge,.., check out his song "I:m afraid of Americans" which he collaborated with Trent Reznor of NIN on. It's one of those songs that the video does definitely add to.
The only real parallel I can think of is the Beatles, how they continuously and rapidly changed and transformed their music throughout their relatively short time together.
This was from many years my favorite Bowie song, it may be back on top. For me, when this came out, it was very alien sounding, party music where everyone’s dancing in reverse. Still sounds futuristic.
Your analogy of changing masks as the voices go from a high note down to a low note singing Fame is spot-on with Bowie's career. He successfully changed his Persona through the years from Ziggy Stardust to the Thin White Duke.

Enjoying your Bowie reactions. Guess who was playing guitar 🎸 and saying Fame after Bowie? That would be John Lennon (Beatles). He also named the track. Bowie could do all types of music. He also was a good actor but my favorite film is labyrinth he played Jared the goblin King 👑 and he wrote the soundtrack. My kids favorite movies 🍿Bowie was a recluse until his 2nd marriage with a model Imand. Married over 20yrs, Had one daughter. Bowie left over 230 million. They lived in a New York apartment. Look up some interviews he is so funny 😂
Great reaction. Insightful and erudite. Kudos to you Dan. I love how you always comment how his songs are 'interesting'. Which they are. You're amazing: your choices, your gut, your heart. And we are all better for it. So pleased with this! Co-written by John Lennon. Hard to take Bowie out of context, but this is a great start. (First white man on Soul Train. A huge thing in the 70s!) Our clever David. "Fame, fame fame, fame, fame, fame, fame... What's yer name?" Blessings Dan.
Ziggy Stardust is the obvious way to go, but why be obvious, this is Bowie. I suggest Station to Station as the album to react to. Bowie barely remembers making it, due to some bad habits he needed to stop. However, it's an important transition in music style which would set him up for a series of classic experimental albums. This album has it all. Amazing vocals, funky in spots, haunting in other. The title track alone is an amazing journey. IMO, it's his best, which is why it's funny he hardy remembers it!
If you’re looking for votes on which David Bowie album to listen to, you can’t go wrong with Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dory (sooooo unduly overlooked), or Aladdin Sane. Let’s Dance is also astonishing from end to end. Any album you choose, he will blow you away. Pure genius.
First Bowie tune I ever heard, three years after it'd dropped --and two years before I was stunned to learn that the artist was a skinny Caucasian Londoner. This turns out to be among the weaker tracks on the Young Americans LP, and it still kicks total ass --you should hear the B side of the single and the stuff left off of the final cut of the album...
This was 5 years after John Lennon went through primal scream therapy with Arthur Janov which was about releasing the pent up pain of being born, the trauma suffered while growing up, it all came out in Lennon's first real pop album "Plastic Ono Band".
A friend of mine moved to Colorado so he could do primal therapy with JNov. It helped him get in touch with his feelings (he'd had very abusive childhood) but didn't seem much help in getting him past them.
Interestingly enough, she never mentioned it in her "tell all" book, but when she was doing her talk show interviews & Joan Rivers jumped on the assumption, it got Angie a lot of press attention. Angie very much wanted fame herself, so I have taken this storyline with a grain of salt.
BTW, I am not saying that there wasn't some crazy sex-capades going on in the "Haddon Hall" period. Bowie & Jagger were good friends & certainly shared many women, but I just am not 100% convinced about sex between those two particularly, IMHO. Not trying to be contrary, but I watched how the whole thing went down in the media at the time. Just my observations, not trying to start anything here.
I love how you always comment how his songs are 'interesting'. Which they are. You're amazing: your choices, your gut, your heart. And we are all better for it. So pleased with this! I’d recommend Moonage Daydream, it signaled the arrive of Ziggy Stardust, and the Aladdin Sane title track for early Bowie avant-garde musical approach, both are among his very best.
After Fame, you need to do Fashion. Also a hat tip to my favorite Bowie song, All the Madmen. BTW, you should check out Bowie's short film, "Jazzin' for Blue Jean."
There is a David Bowie album called Aladdin Sane. It's my favorite David Bowie album. It usually gets overlooked. You should give it a listen. I also like Queen's song about an unscrupulous manager, Death On Two Legs. The Queen of England has more money than most rich people could hope to have, and she will eat out of a Tupperware container. August 27th is coming up. It's the day Stevie Ray Vaughan died. Maybe do a tribute video that day. His birthday is October 3rd.
Queen savaged the guy on their previous album, too, with "Flick Of The Wrist". If anyone reacts to that one, though, I'll always request they let it flow into "Lily Of The Valley" (and even better, start with "Tenement Funster") because the transitions between the two pairs of awesome songs are brilliant and really enhance the experience.
Hey Daniel, great choice - one of his absolute bangers ! I stumbled on this live performance today that’s so fitting for our time in history with the pullout of troops from Afghanistan : “When A Soldier Makes It Home” by Arlo Guthrie + Family. Please hit it soon if you can, while it’s most relevant, it hits deep !
It blows my mind that there's a generation of people that did not grow up knowing a classic like this. What has become of radio? Do they even teach music class in schools anymore? As for grand spending it's also a part of sharing the wealth, helping out friends as well as stimulating the economy (of friends). Your comment about spending it all and having nothing left there's a great quote from the 1st episode of the show "Angel" where Cordelia says to the vampire star, "You're not exactly rolling in it, Mr. ""
That's Stevie Ray Vaughan on the guitar in this song. He played on several tracks of this album Fame. Was also supposed to tour with Bowie but there was a difference of opinion on whether Stevie could do a few of his own songs with his own band, He was told no, so he said ok see ya and didn't do the tour.
Nope. A swing and a miss. It was Lets Dance that Stevie played on. And Stevie was pissed of when he saw the video because it shows David Bowie playing the guitar. With gloves on no less. I think Bowie was upset that Stevie turned him down to be an opening act.
This was kind of a Funk period for Bowie, it was a time of dancing and Disco. He sort of created his own in between kind of sound. However many albums of his you listen to, that is how many different sides of Bowie you will see. He reinvented himself every time he dropped an album. What a genius he was. I loved all of his music. Fame is fleeting and those who live in excess often crash and burn.
There are a few GREAT songs on EVERY Bowie album. They all sound unique. And every Bowie fan will have a different top ten song list, usually NOT the best known songs.
Vocal chord cancer surgery a few days ago, but you almost had me trying to sing. Keep going, the rabbit hole is deep. Ziggy Stardust for a full album review. Also, if you ever get a chance, do Blind Melon-Walk, a great tune.
Life on Mars by Bowie was probably one of the greatest songs ever. It was written in response to Frank Sinatra My way. Truly epic and emotional. Best albums : Hunky Dory Ziggy Stardust Low
I don't know if anyone has said it yet, but yes John Lennon did the backup vocals but in the section where he repeats the word fame from high to low it's John and Yoko Ono, trust me I love Yoko
Daniel, may I suggest starting with one of Bowie's first albums titled "The Man Who Sold The World" from 1970. The music style is blues-rock similar to Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, which was the popular type of sound coming from English bands at that time. The music will appeal to you & the lyrics are thought provoking, in true Bowie fashion. In the 90's Kurt Cobain covered the title song from this album in a live performance on MTV, also a terrific version worth checking out in the future. I think you will find "Diamond Dogs" from 1974, "Station to Station" from 1976, "1.Outside" from 1995 & of course his last masterpiece "Blackstar" from 2016 all incredibly interesting both sonically & lyrically to do in full. But then again, I love all his work so I don't think you can make a mistake in whatever you choose. BTW, I really enjoyed watching you get into the groove of this song. This entire album is excellent & wouldn't be a bad place to start either. He never did another like it & it did quite well for him on its release. There is a great story attached to it concerning his fans from the Sigma Studios in Philly while recording it, affectionately referred to as "the Sigma Kids." Sorry for writing a book here. I could go on for days about my hero, but I will stop now & let you get on with your work. I am enjoying your Bowie journey! 👍👍👍
I was in high school when Ziggy Stardust came out, and my brother bought it. In the U.S. nobody outside of northeast Ohio had ever heard of him. I knew Hunky Dory and The Man Who Sold the World, but Ziggy was a whole new universe. We're talking 1972 here. If you want to do a Bowie album, Ziggy Stardust would be perfect.
The line is: "Fame - What you like is in the LIMO" That's limo - which is short for "limousine". (Not "limbo".) So, when you are someone like Bowie or Lennon or anyone really famous, whatever you want - whether it's drugs, alcohol, beautiful women/men - even food......is waiting for you in your limo. Great reaction!
I was a massive Bowie fan back in the day - I like everything up to and including the album Scary Monsters (1980) but, sadly, nothing much after. Nevertheless during that period he made many great albums - I wish I could be in your shoes discovering them for the first time again! Enjoy.
No, Nile and Bowie first met in the early 80s - 5 albums after Young Americans. The funky core of Fame is the riff from Carlos Alomar (co-writer and rhythm guitarist)
I always recommend Golden Years after hearing this one, to keep the funk thing going.
Golden Years is funk level 1 million.
👍👍
That was going to be my response as well!
One of the most commanding artists of the stage I've ever seen. Charismatic with no effort and incredible presence and musicality.

Love Bowie. Subbed! I hope you’re ready for the creative genius that is David Bowie!
Always been fun picking out Lennon’s vocals.
Oh, the Bowie/Jagger thing is true. That story came from Bowie's wife at the time, who was also involved.
For full Bowie albums - Ziggy Stardust from 72 or Lets Dance from 83
Great review. 2 Bowie suggestions: 'Young Americans' and 'Heroes'
If you do a full album you should do "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars".
I concur.
Love it. My dad used to play this a lot, I've always liked it since a I was a really little kid.
One of my top favorite Bowie songs!
I love how you always comment how his songs are 'interesting'. Which they are. You're amazing: your choices, your gut, your heart. And we are all better for it. So pleased with this! Co-written by John Lennon. Hard to take Bowie out of context, but this is a great start. Kudos Daniel. (First white man on Soul Train. A huge thing in the 70s!) Our clever David. "Fame, fame fame, fame, fame, fame, fame... What's yer name?" Blessings Dan.
I’d recommend Moonage Daydream, it signaled the arrive of Ziggy Stardust, and the Aladdin Sane title track for early Bowie avant-garde musical approach, both are among his very best.
You are really going to like this. Especially with head phones
Thanks Daniel David Bowie is one of the best rabbit holes in music. Imo
After Fame, you need to do Fashion. Also a hat tip to my favorite Bowie song, All the Madmen. BTW, you should check out Bowie's short film, "Jazzin' for Blue Jean."
Great song !!
Please give Changes a spin
Was also supposed to tour with Bowie but there was a difference of opinion on
whether Stevie could do a few of his own songs with his own band, He was told no, so he said ok see ya and didn't do the tour.
Nope. A swing and a miss.
It was Lets Dance that Stevie played on. And Stevie was pissed of when he saw the video because it shows David Bowie playing the guitar. With gloves on no less. I think Bowie was upset that Stevie turned him down to be an opening act.
Such a great groove!
"Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes" has got to be next for Bowie.
Best albums : Hunky Dory
Ziggy Stardust
Low
I don't know if anyone has said it yet, but yes John Lennon did the backup vocals but in the section where he repeats the word fame from high to low it's John and Yoko Ono, trust me I love Yoko
James Browns track "Hot" uses exactly the same catchy riff 🎶🤩🤩
I AGREE WITH YOU, D. FAME HAS A VERY SHALLOW CONNOTATION, I LITERALLY HAS VERY LITTLE MEANING. YOU PUT IT QUITE WELL! . THANK YOU!.👍
Daniel, may I suggest starting with one of Bowie's first albums titled "The Man Who Sold The World" from 1970.
There is a great story attached to it concerning his fans from the Sigma Studios in Philly while recording it, affectionately referred to as "the Sigma Kids."
Sorry for writing a book here. I could go on for days about my hero, but I will stop now & let you get on with your work. I am enjoying your Bowie journey! 👍👍👍
Good suggestions. Especially his final record. I sent him. A longer book, lol. Bowie can do that to a person.
@ Michael A. He does have an effect, for sure! 😉
Great Bowie song. Next you should do “Blue Jean” live video
THE FOUR OR FIVE OPENING CHORDS ARE LIKE SOMEHOW BACKWARDS PLAYED AND FORWARD RECORDED....
Just do all his albums in order!
I'll vote for that!
I read once that John Lennon sang a part and played in this song.
Fan of David B.👍❤
Legend.
Thought for the longest time this was "the Talking heads" until i got a live Bowie dvd .
"What you like is in the LIMO". Limousine.
HAHAHA i laughed out loud when he was saying that.
John lennon on background vocals and guitar
Love, love, love Bowie. Another great song of his is "Let's Dance". It's a completely difference vive.
Ziggy Stardust goes past classic album
Then in same year he collaborates with Lou Reed on his Tranformer album with a lot of same musicians
When they were jamming this John Lennon was there and every now and then he’d shout Aim. Bowie changed it to Fame
Co-written with John Lennon, who also performs on the track.
Side note; John Lennon played on the Fame recording.
This track is anything but "groovy".. This is pure stanky funk..
The line is:
"Fame - What you like is in the LIMO"
That's limo - which is short for "limousine". (Not "limbo".)
So, when you are someone like Bowie or Lennon or anyone really famous, whatever you want - whether it's drugs, alcohol, beautiful women/men - even food......is waiting for you in your limo.
Great reaction!
Next do Heroes. 😁❤️
I was a massive Bowie fan back in the day - I like everything up to and including the album Scary Monsters (1980) but, sadly, nothing much after. Nevertheless during that period he made many great albums - I wish I could be in your shoes discovering them for the first time again! Enjoy.
Young Americans from this album... You'll have a field day with the lyrics.
I believe that John Lennon sang backup on that track.
Nial Rodgers was the unheralded genius who helped Bowie go in this direction.
No, Nile and Bowie first met in the early 80s - 5 albums after Young Americans. The funky core of Fame is the riff from Carlos Alomar (co-writer and rhythm guitarist)
Bowie would always get The best musicians to work with him!
With Lennon on backup!
I always thought it “what you like is in the limo”
YEAH YOU HAVE THE ( YOUNG AMERICANS ) ALBUM UP THERE ON THE SCREEN DANIEL :) YOU SHOULD DO THE TITLE TRACK
