I recommend side 2 of "Hounds of Love", "The Ninth Wave". It is concept suite about a woman lost at sea, and really is best when listened to in its entirety.
Great reaction Daniel, gutted you didn’t watch the video though, as with most of Kate’s songs it adds to the whole experience and at the time really made this song stand out.
Daniel this is the rare occasion when I will recommend on your own time you watch the music video she made for this song. It is very interesting. TRUE FILM FAN

This resurgence is so amazing and no one deserves it as much as she does, I'm a huge Kate fan and it just feels so surreal. I just wish more people checked out her other songs too because she was such a pioneer and she's done so much and no song sounds the same. The only keyboard used in the song is the FairlightC.M.I. IIx played by Kate Bush. Kate played all 7 keyboard parts on the Fairlight. When released the Fairlight would have cost $25,000-150,000 depending on options. The Fairlight is part of the Arturia v collection
Great voice, and the song was pretty cool (even though it's not my usual thing). I liked the section where Bush's voice was multitracked. Very creative decision.

Great reaction, thanks! Please stay on your Kate Bush journey and continue with trackes from The Dreaming or the whole of the Ninth wave! I believe the "icy synth" you mentioned is a balaika.
I remember her being popular among my crowd in Houston when this song was first released and getting airplay, so this isn’t her first recognition in America by any means. I still have the vinyl album with this song on it. She helped me through a bad time.
Noted you opted to name it how the song originally intended by Kate to be called, even to this day she wished it was named ‘A Deal with God’; nice one 👍
A lot of the sound effects you are hearing were produced by KB's Fairlight synth (CMI Fairlight sampler). Hounds of Love was the first album on which she actually composed songs using the Fairlight rather than her piano, and that certainly allowed for more mysterious atmospherics and textures. The drums were programmed with a Linndrum drum machine, which like the Fairlight, sampled actual instrument sounds rather than creating sounds from scratch. These were kind of like advanced electronic versions of the Mellotron (which used actual magnetic tapes of recorded instruments).
"Hounds of Love" is a true zero-filler album. Side one is 5 fantastic tracks. Side two is "The Ninth Wave," and I'll second all requests to tackle that song cycle in its entirety. Very Pink Floyd, but ALL Kate Bush. Glad you got here. It's been fun (and disorienting) to hear this song getting overplayed (!) on Top 40 radio, this summer.
How come nobody mentions the fantastic background vocals in the last minute of this song. Strange, improvised screams that add so much to the dynamic - that sound like nothing I've ever heard before or after. Listen again with that in mind.
Described as variously Psychobilly,Gothabilly & Horror Punk (with an album called Look Mom No Head how could you go wrong!)- always remember the name of this band & one or two of their album covers but never really listened to them - this channel should start the revival (sparked off by their Stranger Things inclusion).
@@medmon3476 I was a Teenage werewolf was the song in the background in a scene in the school cafeteria. th-cam.com/video/vgIiyEtBIKI/w-d-xo.html Other songs to check out , Bikini Girls with Machine Guns, Can Your Pussy do the Dog and their cover of Goo Goo Muck.
Glad you finally did this, but I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and urge you to listen to Hounds of Love in its entirety. As many have said side 2 in particular, "The Ninth Wave" is epic, and astounding. Another video you might enjoy is a live version of Running Up That Hill with David Gilmour on guitar from 1985, I believe. It's pretty cool to watch now that the song is so popular. Honestly, while Running Up That Hill is a great song, it's one of my least favorite of Kate's as it's pretty straight-forward. Cloudbusting is fantastic, but my favorite is the title track, Hounds of Love, which is an extraordinary allegory about a woman who is afraid to fall in love.
Hi always a pleasure to see ur reviews. I loved 'this woman's work,' running,' 'army dreamers' & Wuthering heights' she's great, but i didn't get into the rest as much. Anyway enjoy.✌
I bought the cassette in high school right after it came out. I still have it. No matter what genre people listened to at the time , everyone I knew wanted to hear this song as much as possible. Even then, we didn't know what the heck was going on, we just knew it was good. She's always just ahead of the trends.
My favorite is "Cloudbusting" too! I got the album when it came out (white marbled!) I knew some of her music earlier, but The Dreaming made me sit up and take notice. That one, Hounds of Love, and The Sensual World are my favorites, with H of L on top. Her album The Red Shoes has a great song co-written by Prince, which he is also on, called "Why Should I Love You?"
Kate Bush and so many others, bringing music back through the template of popular TV and streaming services. Whatever it takes. When I see youth wearing a Boston or a Rush shirt, it always makes my day. Great music will never die.
You should certainly consider listening to "Hounds Of Love" as it's an iconic album from the 1980s the perfect balance between the more commercial tracks on the first side and the concept piece "The Ninth Wave" a linked suite of songs starting with "And Dream Of Sheep" - Kate did perform "The Ninth Wave" live as one of the acts in her 2014 "Before The Dawn" concert residency. A video of Kate singing "And Dream Of Sheep" live was projected onto a large screen at the start... However "Hounds Of Love" isn't my favourite Kate Bush album, but it is up there... my top three as follows: 📌The Dreaming - this remains Kate's most experimental "out there" studio album, the first one where she was the sole producer. Techniques used on this album were expanded upon in "Hounds Of Love". This is an album has undergone a critical reevaluation in recent years, but it got me when I first listened to it, I usually like to follow the advice on sleeve to "Play it loud" 😀 📌Hounds Of Love - see above for my thoughts on this album 📌Never For Ever - Kate is credited as co-producer for this album and it certainly shows, this was when Kate started to spread her musical wings, there are some absolutely classic tracks on this album, it's also notable for the appearance of the Fairlight CMI, which Kate was introduced to when working with Peter Gabriel on his 3rd album (Kate provided backing vocals on the tracks "Games Without Frontiers" and "No Self Control"), of course Kate subsequently mastered the use of the Fairlight CMI and used it to even greater effect on "The Dreaming" and "Hounds Of Love". The album entered the UK album chart straight into number 1, making Kate the first British solo artist to have an album reach number 1 and the first female solo artist to have an album enter straight into number 1.
The Fairlight that's mentioned is one of the first synthesizers that was available for use and it was extremely expensive but Kate had to have one because of her vision for this album. Having said that I would recommend you start with Kate's first album the Kick Inside (which has no synthesizers) because all her albums are great so why not start with the first one (which is only known these days for the singles that were lifted from it but listened to as a whole it gives you such a good snapshot of where Kate came from artistically that it really helps to make sense of her subsequent work). PS it has one of the best songs ever recorded about making love - Feel It - that you'll probably feel embarrassed if someone else is in the room (family member?) when or if you listen to it.
Technically speaking it wasn't a synthesiser but a sampler with limited modifcation capabilities. The album "Hounds of Love" was more palatable than the predecessor, "The Dreaming" which was very experimental album and really featured the use of Fairlight. Kate Bush did almost all by herself on that album as well.
@@onsesejoo2605 I realized I wasn't quite correct after I commented and then looked up Wikipedia and saw that she had used it first in the Dreaming . The only reason I remember that the Fairlight was a milestone was that it was developed in a suburb of Sydney (I grew up in Sydney) and was actually named after that suburb but when it comes to the technicalities I'm not an expert in any way - although I do know that the Fairlight pioneered sampling because another reactor mentioned a song recorded in 1977 (from ABBA the album) sounded like it had sampled a voice so I had to do a little bit of research so I could correct them and say that sampling wasn't around in any meaningful way back at that time. I'm still voting for the Kick Inside because when you listen to the album in one sitting all the way through it 'nourishes' your soul ( and that's always a good thing!).
@@medmon3476 On the other hand, my reply is not far from nitpicking. Today the workstations have practically speaking made the line between synthesiser and sampler to vanish, and on the top of that, synths' presets have improved a lot to be even closer to the real instruments.
Daniel, I always thought Suspended in Gaffa was the wrong gateway for you. Hounds of Love, and especially the side-long The Ninth Wave would be totally up your alley: a near-death experience in seven songs that are interconnected.
This song, through nothing more than its coincidental release date, reminds me of the worst year of my life. Consequently, Kate’s wishful sadness, so beautifully expressed in her singing, can still nearly bring me to tears 37 years later.
Probably my third favorite Kate Bush album, after 50 Words For Snow and The Dreaming (which is my all time favorite album). This album (Hounds of Love) is a bit like a light, bright version of The Dreaming, equally weird and experimental. I first heard this song in '85, Inwas 16 and I probably just like you in this video, with hands and everything.
The lyric that always struck with me was, "Tell me we both matter, don't we?" I was always creating some group project with a mission, and my girlfriends were always swept up in it. I think that they began to feel unimportant in our lives. (not really the case in my mind), but the lyric made me consider things from her perspective and feel sad.
Wait a second. I always thought the band TOOL held a special place in your heart. The way you praise Maynard James Keenan’s singing, all the time. Hahaha. How great drummer Danny Carey is. How great the bassist is.
Your reaction format probably doesn’t allow for a full album review. But if you can extend it, the second half of the Hounds of Love album (thinking vinyl records) is well worth listening to in its entirety. It is a 7-part concept suite of related songs called ‘The Ninth Wave’. Beginning with ‘And Dream Of Sheep’ it is basically a stream of consciousness from a woman lost at sea in the water with just a life jacket (with its “little light shining”) who is in danger of drowning. A great many people, myself included, believe this to be collectively her greatest work.
A Sky of Honey, the second half of Aerial, is equally as good I think. At that point I wasn't expecting another album from Kate Bush at all, let alone one with a suite of songs as good as The Ninth Wave. She really is phenomenal.
Hounds of Love is my favorite album because it carries such a deep emotional impact. It has stiff competition from The Wall by Pink Floyd also due to it's emotional currency. I've commented already on many reactions to this song over the last couple of months and I've intimated many times that listening to this song turned up loud on a real audio system is a must have experience. The louder the better. If you can get some "pant-flap" happening and no clipping, then you're doing it right. Her 'The Sensual World' album is equally as good as any of her albums, objectively speaking. I highly recommend that one to any newcomers looking to hear her more accessible material. P.S. Trivia: Note that the song has no cymbals or high-hat involved. A conscious choice on her part. If I'm not mistaken (and I may be), there are no cymbals or high-hat on any of the tracks on both The Dreaming and Hounds of Love.
It has been reported and documented that there was a "No high hats" rule in place for "Hounds Of Love". It may also have been in effect for "The Dreaming" as well, because if I remember rightly Peter Gabriel had a similar approach at the time and Kate did work with him prior to both of those albums.
Great reaction! Kate Bush is the real deal. She can take something simple, basic, as in this song, and make it a masterpiece😍 Ok, now get up and let that cat out! It has totally lost its patience with you🐱
I love that your interest in Kate has evolved! Let your mom know that back in the first days of the Internet, the very first fan webpage created was for Kate Bush. Some of us always knew who she was. 😉
Kate Bush’s social media seems to indicate she is pleased with the revival of this song, and fair play to her. She has had a very long and unique career. I can’t really think of another artist quite like her. Hounds of Love is an excellent album, I think it would be worth your time, but if you would like to hear her at her most experimental, I would go with The Dreaming. Get Out Of My House is quite something. Hi to your kitty 🐈⬛
lol at peaople dissing 'Suspended in Gaffa' as a first-time experience of Kate's music and instead recommending the Ninth Wave. Even though Kate is my favorite artist, I personally have a very hard time with the Ninth Wave… but 'Suspended in Gaffa' struck me as a perfect song the first time I heard it
Kate is British. I did not know that. Hey you’re wearing a Pizza Planet t-shirt! Your hair has been growing, now at the shoulders. Max’s harrowing moments. In Stranger Things. Unbelievable. Has me cheering Max on and I’m crying at the same time.
I wenth through a heavy years long long kate bush phase, I couldn't possibly choose a favorite song . I could only narrow it down to 2 albums and even that was painful, but I recommend The Dreaming and Never Forever Edit: OK Cloudbusting is a must-listen song, if you love running u that hill this will be your second favorite
Thank you a thousand times, Daniel, for not saying "I'm really EXCITED about reacting to this song" - "I'm so EXCITED to be doing this one" ... Every reactor is EXCITED every time they do a reaction. I could barf. Just thanks for not saying that -
Hi Dicon, if you love Kate Bush voice I think you'll be amazed by Antonella Ruggiero from Matia Bazar group : search for "I feel you", that's the english version of their worldwide success "ti sento" directly from the magical 80s elettro/pop. Let me know. Thanks.
It's one of these few albums which need to be called perfect. At least it's a sin to listen just to one song out of it instead hearing the album completly.
You can tell you are not exactly bowled over by this Kate Bush song , which is fine , but given the vast popularity it now has , I think you feel that the reaction has been overdone . You don't elaborate too much in your summation . but this is the the impression I get . Which , again , is fine , but you seem to hesitate saying why . I do know that Kate Bush has never had the popularity in North America that she has in the UK , where her songs and albums chart much higher , she's practically a national treasure over there . I've always liked Kate Bush , but understand that her style is not easy for many people to get into . ( I wonder if your mom's aversion to this song extended to her other work .)
I’d never heard this before Stranger Things. Not really a song that gets me excited or makes me want to hear it again. Don’t come for me Kate Bush fans! 😅
"Meow," "Yeah its a good song". Demonstrating Daniel's simpatico with the family cat, in the spirit of the song lyrics petitioning men and women to swop places mentally, for the furtherance of mutual understanding. Now let the cat out please............
Best album ever, as a whole. But "Running" is not the best track on it. Standout drumming throughout both sides, especially in the celtic-influenced numbers. The cinematic video for "Cloudbusting" is memorable.
I recommend side 2 of "Hounds of Love", "The Ninth Wave". It is concept suite about a woman lost at sea, and really is best when listened to in its entirety.
People rightly telling you it is a Fairlight sampler, but no one’s said what the sound ‘is’; it’s a cello sample.

He’s done it before with Tommy and The Wall
Dang, I hear Pumpkin. He sounds so stressed. 🥺😟😳😳
Great reaction! Kate Bush is the real deal. She can take something simple, basic, as in this song, and make it a masterpiece😍 Ok, now get up and let that cat out! It has totally lost its patience with you🐱
The video for song is well worth seeing
Tanita Tikaram "Twist In My Sobriety"...Nuff Said.
Yeah, I want a Pizza Planet shirt!!
Warehouse 13 used a cover of this to devastating effect as well.
I wenth through a heavy years long long kate bush phase, I couldn't possibly choose a favorite song . I could only narrow it down to 2 albums and even that was painful, but I recommend The Dreaming and Never Forever
Edit: OK Cloudbusting is a must-listen song, if you love running u that hill this will be your second favorite
In my opinion Kate Bush' "Experiment 4" is probably one of her greatest, least recommended songs (and has a great story to it).
oh, we don't need the thumbs down. We need dm's back.
Best part of the lyric. NO PROBLEMS
Thank you a thousand times, Daniel, for not saying "I'm really EXCITED about reacting to this song" - "I'm so EXCITED to be doing this one" ...
Every reactor is EXCITED every time they do a reaction. I could barf.
Just thanks for not saying that -
Just so you know, he often says he's excited 🙂
Hi Dicon, if you love Kate Bush voice I think you'll be amazed by Antonella Ruggiero from Matia Bazar group : search for "I feel you", that's the english version of their worldwide success "ti sento" directly from the magical 80s elettro/pop. Let me know. Thanks.
Great reaction Daniel. Would you consider taking on Bjork? Bachelorette is one of my favorites by her
It's one of these few albums which need to be called perfect.
I love your reaction to Romeo and Juliet thank you so emotional feeling
Nice job!
How about some Kansas? Like The Pinnacle from Masque. Time for some progressive rock!
Great timeless
Running up the hill is about wounded British soilders
I like your Toy Story tee-shirt!
🍕🌎
Me too! I want one!
I really like your reactions, you should really check out a song called Getting Away With it All Messed up by a band called James, it's awesome.
When are you finally completing Talk Talk's ''The Colour Of Spring"? You said very soon, and we've had nothing yet. Come on 'bro.
please please please just do reaction to the whole album
"Meow," "Yeah its a good song". Demonstrating Daniel's simpatico with the family cat, in the spirit of the song lyrics petitioning men and women to swop places mentally, for the furtherance of mutual understanding. Now let the cat out please............
My cat is crying to your cat 😂
I love Kate Bush! React to “The Wedding List” is a very interesting one.
Wow... Kate's bush....I used to call her..I think she was married to Peter Gabriel... she's awesome
She was never married to Peter Gabriel.
@@sopyleecrypt6899 sorry I thought she was... maybe her boyfriend?
@@robertvien5693 he was her mentor, then friend. It was never a romantic relationship I don’t think.

Too bad you're not using her music video, or even her killer live version with David Gilmore. You might want to check them out for yourself.
Never heard this before. A strong voice but don't care for the song.
Best album ever, as a whole. But "Running" is not the best track on it. Standout drumming throughout both sides, especially in the celtic-influenced numbers. The cinematic video for "Cloudbusting" is memorable.
Check out the Tom Tom girls

The cat's constant meowing is driving me CRAZY! 😡
I don't envy you for critiquing some of these songs.
