Hi everybody...like I mentioned earlier the objective of this vdo is to spread awareness and make an attempt at removing the stigma associated with mental illness in our society ..pls do share your experience with this subject in the comments below. Do look into the description box where I have shared some valuable info and numbers too
Really helpful ....This is something that actually our society needs ....Everybody is busy with life ...nobody have time to look at others nd talk to them personally ...Even the members of the same family don't even have time to spare for each other ....So the people like u ar really inevitable to the present society ....Thank u so much for the effort u put to inspire nd motivate others...Keep going Dhanya varma mam .....Huge fan of u my dear dhanya chechi ....Keep going ...May God bless u !
Mam ...It's one of my greatest desire to talk to u once ....Since the time I get to know about u ...I have been watching ur videos daily ......U ar actually a positive light to this world nd the way u talk ,the way u convey things itself has a positive energy ......Keep going nd thank u so much for ur reply ....Feeling honoured Dhanya chechi💐
Even the best of my friends couldn't understand me when I was going through this phase. When I seek professional help they said it's all rubbish, said that I will be happy around them. I believed them , I loved to believe that I am mentally fine. But the feeling of numbness kept coming back even in the midst of everything good. The stigma around depression should be addressed really seriously.
What you could share with a professional probably you could never share with friends...do take the step to consult and find a good therapist for yourself..let them guide you..much love..have given a few numbers down below
I am glad you spoke about this. The first time I realised I needed help was when I felt numb and couldnt function normally like I used to. I took professional help and the first thing the doc said was , "Im glad you realised you needed help and came to me". I think the first step in healing is in recognizing there is a problem and addressing it in the right manner. Love does go a long way in healing the mind. Thank you Dhanya for the video.
You may not be a professional in psychology or anything of that sort but I literally cried on listening to you.... Someone translating what I felt numerous times in my life..... Hugs and lots of love ma'am
"We are all broken that's how the light gets in"! Been through the depression phase and broke the cocoon and came out as a free and beautiful Butterfly!Whenever I remember those days I thank God for that season..Otherwise as you said we will not understand the value of this freedom.. Nice Video Ma'am..keep doing more ❤️
Dhanya, thank you for doing this video and starting a conversation. The stigma in our culture is making people hide mental illness a lot. Generations are affected due to this… hope people will start a healthy change soon.

Omg! Lady atleast you spoke about this postpartum depression. Ppl around me said it's absolutely normal to feel as such after delivery. But I realised well it's not normal kind.
Hello Ma'am, I should say 'Happiness Project' was my depression pills. I used to see your program whole night during those days and those spark in your eyes inspired me alot. Thankyou so much Ma'am. I love you
This may help many lives to analyse themselves who feels lost. I could nt find such info’s in my 20’s when the life was absolutely in depression for many yrs. So grateful to you for posting this message. As you said, not many people recognize that their friends/family members/colleagues are undergoing depression. I appreciate that you have talked about the symptoms passively, but listing out them would have helped. Thank you🙏
@Hasif Mh exercise and meditate for half and hour daily mrg and night, wrote gratitude journal daily means be thankful for what you have, wrote 5 blessings mrg and before going to sleep, control thinking, focus on goodness and happiness, you will become what you think, live in this moment ,wherever you are be there, smile at myself loved myself ,forgive to myself and others, accept ourself as it is ...
not all sad people are depressed, not all depressed people are sad...so true. I also have my fair share with depression, When I was depressed I never showed any symptoms to others just to myself. I did laugh, smile yes everything but I was empty inside ...sorry I really don't know a word for this feeling. but I remember crying my heart out for god knows what reason every night. my pillow is my bae lol. it knows how much I cried. I have a loving family, a blessed body, and all that I am grateful for but I really had no sense of myself. I didn't reach out for help because I thought no one would get me....and that is the biggest mistake everyone makes. I fought myself out, that is really hard. I would always say that my biggest accomplishment is fighting my depression and winning the battle. Always remember you have people to support you. seek help there is nothing wrong in it.
Every word that you said is absolutely true Dhanya! I have been facing this state of mind, off and on, for the last ten years. Even if we know everything about depression, once we fall into its depths, we loose perspective, and later things get clear only after we come out of it. Even after the head on collision with this demon for a dozen times or more, I still get horrified even by the thought of getting once more there. During recent occurances, Yoga helped me come out, even which is something hard to practice once we are in the dark zone. Thanks a lot for sharing the video dear!

Thank you for speaking up. It' a subject our community want to brush under the carpet, rather than addressing the elephant in the room!! Even I am guilty of viewing mental health issues as weakness in character, until my own child came down with bipolar disorder! I learned a lot from that experience and I do see the need to create awareness among our society to deal with the condition in a more informed way. Am so happy that a celebrity like you came forward to speak about it and be open about your own personal experience. Some cases are clinical depression, which warrants treatment and containment with prescription drugs, but a majority of the depression cases are brought on by peer pressure and other circumstantial situations. In my opinion we should start making efforts from grassroots level to identify and address symptoms from an early stage. Mental health is as equally important as our physical health and it is high time the elephant in the room is addressed!!! Keep up the good work Dhanya, and I wish you the very best for your channel!! Cheers, George from Down Under
wow Ma'am . one of the best answers on this subject i’ve seen in a while. really well thought out. you seem to really have broken it down into the separate, fundamental parts.
Thanks so much..yes had put a lot of thought into it..am glad that it is well received .pls do share with as many people as you could... hope more people get to hear about these issues🙏
Nowadays ppl don't take it seriously abt this topic coz they think it's strange I really appreciate you for that ma'am. Well said 👏, As always I'm inspired by you Ma'am❤️❤️. May god bless you 🙏🏻
Thank u so much Dhanya for selecting this subject. It will be useful to many of the people. You love yourself very deeply. That is why you could love others and help others.Love u so much. Dhanya one thing is missing in the video. There is a method to check whether one has depression . The duration of being sad for a particular reason lasts for three days. After that we will recover from the mood slowly and will come to our daily routine. If that sorrow persists and is always pricking you and if it affects our daily life routine specifically our sleep , hunger and not interested to take bath ,one has depression and need medication.
OMG, I cant believed Dhanya liked my comment. Thank you. Just want to tell you I am a big fan of yours through'Happiness Project'. Keep doing more, motivation and inspiring videos for working women.
Thank you so much for bringing up and creating awareness on this topic,Dhanya Chechi.. I was myself suffering from depression and as you said I didn't even realise that initially.. Thanks to God,friends and family I am now out of that dark phase. I listen to your's and sadhguru's talks everyday... It gives me so much positivity, happiness and peace.. May God bless you and your family always.. May you keep spreading happiness always.. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Dhanya Chechi for discussing such a hot topic on current scenario. I'm also undergoing the depressed state of mind although I'm playing or enjoying with my kith and kin. But I'm consciously do self positivity to over come the depression.
Chechi everybody is struggling in one way or the other. Social stigma regarding mental illness should be avoided at any cost, many people should come out without feeling ashamed.
Nobody wants to listen even if we want to speak,I believed my family can understand me,but no one wants to face the truth.Just ignoring it.My mother provokes me sometime to see wheather i am saying truth or not.I behave pathetically, shout, cry aloud , which I really don't want to show anyone.I don't want to show myself week and how desperate I am."you don't have any problem,it's just thoughts that you you cook up in mind" ;yes it is true everything is a thought

Thanks so much for giving so much insight into this issue...yes someone else too spoke about trauma...I do understand the gravity of the topics...do spread the word...will try and address this subject at a later point
@@iamwithdhanyavarma Thank you for the reply. Trauma is a more serious issue than depression. The cases of physical harassment from somebody right from the home itself is a complicated issue to talk about and huge in terms of numbers than what we actually think. They fear the status of the family in public, in the home and definitely the legal and taboo things need to be faced. I know that it may not be your cup of tea but as a celeb you can do more than a normal person like me. Please do it asap if you can.
Thanks a lot dear Dhanya for this video, which many people hesitate to talk. I am hearing this video at a time when I face a similar situation. I felt hopeful hearing it from a person I admire a lot. Lots of love and respect for you and your projects. 🙏🥰
Almost one year I have a beautiful baby girl I was totally alone for my delivery in a different place so far from family. You said that a day you couldn’t forget yet I have 11 months of crying sleepless nights no food in proper time no rest after delivery even the day after my delivery. I have to smile for my baby but I can’t. My husband can’t understand my situation, I tried to convey he said it’s normal. I am dressing up well sometimes no Personal hygiene always wanted to be inside my room. Lot more .. explained well mam 💛please do make more videos on this topic please
Dear friends, if you are disturbing thoughts very deeply, i had an experience, i tightened my body , artificially i thought my disturbing thoughts and talked and wrote with speed, i have got a wonderful result
I live in the U.S and the things you said in the video were all said here by american influencers a few years ago, that depression is a sickness just like diabetes, you would never tell someone who has diabetes "hey whats wrong with you just eat sugar stop complaining" depression is just like that. and that there are many forms and types of depression, now the west is very aware of mental health depression and anxiety being the most famous, all of this is very important to share with people of kerala, You did a good job! But now the west has new found findings the new things is "Trauma " and PTSD especially childhood trauma which many may have blocked out as a coping mechanism because they were to young and overwhelmed by the situation they had to witnesses or go through. And many times treatment resistant depression may be caused by underlying trauma , when you fix the root cause of the trauma then u start to heal the symptoms of depression and anxiety, trauma is the new wave, there is now trauma informed therapists, meditation teachers, life coaches etc. This depression talk is a good starting point to bring people in our culture to mental awareness so they may help themselves and comfort others in the proper way, but the next public announcement should be about trauma, just in the same way as you did this video, a basic outline of what it is and ways we can seek help for it. 🙏♥️✝️🕉️☯️
@@iamwithdhanyavarma Dhanya Varma Yes will surely share the video, Thank you for your response it made my day!, I was recommended your Maitreyan happiness project episode on youtube, saw it and loved it, ever since that I have searched out and seen many of your videos, just like you said you do when you find a good author that you like you find more works from them🙂. I love your work , the mixture of life experience and raising a few kids at different times, your reading habits ,and your natural love for challenges make you great! I also like the book "The subtle art of not giving a @#$*" that you enjoyed ,i found it 1-2 years back, I cried along with you in the Rajalakshmi episode, and I know what you mean with minds like Aathi it can be intimidating and humbling to sit across and converse. Next time i come to india i have another person in you to look out for to see if i will be lucky to spot outside somewhere, along with Karriku team and Karthik Surya, the internet is amazing connecting east and west, merging cultures and dissolving the line of celebrity and normal people. we live in such an amazing time. if i saw your program in 1990s i would just watch and never be able to connect with you even if i lived in india, now here we are talking across the world, stay happy hope all your family and friends are well , stay safe, This corona is nothing! we will all be better than ever after it passes, I think ive covered everything i wanted haha. best wishes from U.S take care chechi🙏✝️🕉️☯️♥️🙂
I know MHAT, Dr. Manoj and and has gone there to be a part of a programme with Maitreyan.. I was living nearby it during that time. I really appreciate their approach to such people who need help for their mental illness, without social stigma. Thank You for doing this video.
A person very close to me went through depression and he recognised it himself, and sought medical help. It was difficult for me or anyone around him to understand because he was this high functioning individual, and we thought he was being ridiculous and lazy.. so much was expected out of him, he was so brilliant and we were so proud of him.. maybe its just a phase that will pass. He tried to make us understand, but at that point he didn't even have the energy to do that. And no one knows how guilty I feel about that now. But luckily his mom understood and stood by him. It took him some time, some years of his life to get through it.. he gained weight, lost weight.. suffered so much.. and then I understood. Then I would call him up and beg him to not give up, because that's what he thought about doing some days. He was so hopeless. But thankfully, to our huge relief, he is almost back to normal, almost happy. It took away some precious years of his life, but I think it has helped him, and those around him, form a better view of life.
Thank you Dhanya for taking up this topic.. it is a relief for me as well, to put this out.. and for others who are reading this.. it is how difficult it was for someone who was taking medication.. so what others who suffer in silence go through are beyond my imagination.. it is indeed important to be aware.
Good chechiii....keep going.....it's a relevant topic that we have to discuss in the society....great listening to you.....Waiting for your next video.......
Hi mam.. great fan of ur show happiness project.and it was my happiness pill indeed.lots of love and respect to u from then and now. And now am in a state to bravely seek out for help.. thank u a lot for sharing the helpline numbers. Expecting a lot from u.
Well said 👍I too have gone through this through out my pregnancy which lasted even after delivery for another few months.. there was literally nothing that could make me happy. I was in some other world. Even now when i try to recollect those memories they are very much blurred but the feeling is still so fresh in my heart.. heavy. Unfortunately i lost my little son in that battle...
Really liked how you addressed the topic..though I was wondering if you could do a video in English because some of my friends weren't able to understand and they were looking forward to something like this.
Am going through the same situation it's been long time am facing it. It's almost one yr i had give birth to my child but still am suffering from postpartum depression & the wrost thing is my husband saying that i don't have any problem am just acting really that the most painful thing am facing😢 some times i feel like very angery without any specific reason, when get anger i will beat my baby and i will cry for that i can't control myself 😞
At the outset congratulations Dhanya Mam for taking such a topic at right time. 1. In your presentation most repeated word is loved ones. 2. Eventhough some names you referred had good back ground, money, loved ones etc.. but I think they may not had "really loved ones" 3. Depression news we used to hear is among students and celebrities even though other groups as you mentioned also have. 4. If you closely watch students and celebrities are not having real friends with whom we can share all our feelings both good and bad. 5. Please look back in your own family ,elders use to share their worries with their super elders even to 85 years old great grandma. Great grandma , may be uneducated, will listen patiently some times she may not have understood the real problem will say finally "Ellam Sariyavum Dhyrimaerikey". That word alone is sufficient to make us alright. 6. In nutshell we dont have anyone where we can open up our mind....this is applicable to students celebrities even above 70 years age group. 7. Have balanced life. Dont concentrate on one thing....even students should persue some hobby. 8. CEO's and celebrities, as you pointed out in your video will have enough money....they can take up hoppies like painting, music etc...buy good painting material or music instrument ....simply paint or play....feel the difference. Dont paint or play as if you are going to participate in some competition. 9. Environmental change can also help to solve this problem. Like change sitting place etc.... 10. I may be wrong..... just some thoughts .... I had after listening your video.
It's okay to seek help... Now am facing some of it.. May be it will not be depression.. A specific sadness, being hopeless, thinking that nobody is here for me, or there is nothing I can do with my life, nobody understands me... My husband works in mumbai, he will come once in a month... And he is a nice man, but he can't express his love to me, he always thought that love is physical contact, otherwise he talks to me like other people in home, am one among them.. Not special... So i felt so blank... When I was pregnant he can't be with me,he will come and go.. When I needed him the most I didn't get him, then after delivery, his mother took a surgery and his grandma can't help me... I was all alone to take care of my baby... I cried all the night with my baby, sometimes when baby cried I lost my temper and scolded him and cried after that... My mother is the only one person who realised the change in me.. She said that "iam here for u" this word gave me confidence.. Still iam facing some sort of sadness, but now i think i can talk about it, atleast to my mother

Wonder DV. You have handled the subject with care. A topic which can create a lot of confusion. Below are some thoughts which I understood while watching a recent video of sadguru when he was asked about Sushant's sudden demise. Compare yourselves as a bullock cart. The two bulls which is pulling the cart are 1) Your life 2) Your focus areas which you nurtured. You are the rider of the cart. The life takes its own route and we don't have to teach life how to breath, grow, stop breath. The focus areas are the ones which which we created during our life experience. The more we ride closely with our life (with balance and peace), the more stronger we will become. Let's not allow our bulls to walk in opposite directions.
Right now I am going through this depression stage because I got selected for a better job in uae 2 months ago and I was waiting to get joining date..yesterday I got the update that they can't process that hiring bcz of covid ..I was empty completely as this was my only hope to strun up my family as I am the who have to support family financially..my parents are getting aged and have health issues..After knowing this I am completely broken ..now I don't know what's gonna happen.. this was my third visit in uae to find a job ..after all these years struggle ..completely hard to accept the reality..still not dare to cut off my life
It is so unfortunate...a lot of people are stuck because of covid....but hang in there and try and use this time if you could for learning some new skills online if you could..take care

Great topic Dhanya! I had gone through postpartum depression for months after my first delivery, without knowing how to address it. But, the awareness about it helped me when I had the second one. Educating new parents and the family would make a huge difference in how we treat and deal with this condition.
@@gratitudengrace9446 I am guessing it has to do with the nuclear families...where the kids were raised with all members of the famo and also the fact that who knows whether the women went through it...n how it was dealt with...
Divya Verghese , from my understanding and experience , postpartum depression is a mental state and ladies go through that even they have the support from family, but the intensity can be minimized. In my case, first delivery was in India, 20 y back, had no clue what was happening, Dr. never mentioned about it. I would cry for hours, couldn’t feel attachment to my child. Second delivery was in US, I learned about it from clinic and the book I read, was very prepared, had to fill a questionnaire during the Dr. visit after delivery. There was professional available whom you can call any time. Childbirth was a beautiful experience though I went through crying episode 😊. Hope things has been different now in India. New moms need a lot of care and support . Glad Dhanya explained different dimension of it. Sorry, the message is too long, but really happy to get a platform to discuss it.
Hi Dhanya..... Yesterday one 19 year old girl committed suicide in palakkadu..... she was my husband's colleagues daughter... reason is depression.... She was very smart, brilliant and studious student.... 😢😢😢

Hi mam
This video was much needed. There should be a clear distinction between depression and sadness. Thank you ma'am.
Thanks so much for your support..pls do share the vdo with your friends...

I realized my prblms ,wrote in a paper, overcome one by one by changing my mindset, read books power of subconscious mind...

not all sad people are depressed, not all depressed people are sad...so true. I also have my fair share with depression,
When I was depressed I never showed any symptoms to others just to myself.

I could really feel from your show that you must have gone through something like this...It makes a person really kind.
When someone shares their feelings with u. just hear them. U may not have a solution, but just giving a listening ear can also be so helpful.
Yes..agree totally

Really nice madam..... You even focussed on post partum depression which many women face....
Yes strange that no one talks about post partum depression in our country
So moving and instructive at the same time ! Thank you ma'am ❤️
Am glad that you liked it .pls do share the vdo with your friends and family

Nice dress... I went through darkness..now recovering stage.. one of my friend suggested me this video
8:50 to be noted by all....whether depressed or not....to all.....
Nice presentation dhanya chechi...on point...👏👏

Good one in lock down...as steve jobs said always believe the job u do
as great art..
And u as artist...whn thinks so there is no room for depression
Will certainly try...how are you now? How is your baby

You are right...the shame and the stigma attached must go
Dear friends, if you are disturbing thoughts very deeply, i had an experience, i tightened my body , artificially i thought my disturbing thoughts and talked and wrote with speed, i have got a wonderful result
Thanks so much for sharing all this info...will read more about this..do share the video with your friends and family in Kerala...help spread the word

Dhanya nice to hear from you
A person very close to me went through depression and he recognised it himself, and sought medical help.
So nice of you to share your thoughts...
Thank you Dhanya for taking up this topic.. it is a relief for me as well, to put this out.. and for others who are reading this.. it is how difficult it was for someone who was taking medication.. so what others who suffer in silence go through are beyond my imagination.. it is indeed important to be aware.

Very informative and much needed vdeo dhanya chechi🌸
Thanks pls do share with your friends and family
At the outset congratulations Dhanya Mam for taking such a topic at right time.
1. In your presentation most repeated word is loved ones.
2. Eventhough some names you referred had good back ground, money, loved ones etc.. but I think they may not had "really loved ones"
Thanks so much for your support and also for taking the effort to give in detail all these points...
Good presentation mam. I like your voice very much and you have a Good phonetics

HOW TO SURVIVE FROM ALL NEGATIVE PEOPLE AND MAKE MYSELF MORE STRONG AND VIGIL FOR TAKING NEW CHALLENGES?
Will take that up... thanks so much for your suggestion...
Lovely... thanks for sharing your thoughts

Looks like you already knew the answers to the questions you posed :)
