Jamari Willis my friend got a 2010 speed3 with 77k miles for 9,500. clean car i love it a lot. even stock with just a cold air intake it pulls pretty good!
I'm a senior citizen who owned a Gen 1 Speed 3 for 7 1/2 years. I did notice some torque steer on occasion but it was no big deal. I now own a MK 7 Golf R manual with APR Stage 2 tune (4 1/2 years so far), but I still have very fond memories of my True Red Speed 3.
2theRedline i love your reviews, such great reviews you barely even need to ask questions when going for a test drive at the dealer lol. Looking into one of these. Might want the 2013 instead just because of the updates like the exterior and interior nav screen you actually get now, not the really small one. my eye sight is bad as it is lol
thats actually what attracts me to the ms3. nobody knows whats under the bonnet and how sport orientated the handling is. i owned a 2007 and it surprised people time and time again,,, made me love my car
you notice the torque steer more in this model b/c of the electronic steering. personally i prefer the hydraulic systems, its a bit heavier but gives more feel response from the tires.
soooo tired of hearing about tourqe steer. hold the damn steering wheel! I have the 2013 model. I hardly notice tourqe steer. not really sure what the big deal is. if anything the clutch is a bigger issue than tourqe steer. but like anything you learn it and get used to it. love the car. very fun. and gas mileage is much better than Mazda advertises. I get 31-35 on long highway trips.
Nathan Voie I have a built gen 1 and all I need is my hands on the wheels I'm fine. Also 1st and 2nd I juts spin so I don't have to worry about torque steer haha.
Haha dude I bought my MS3 couple weeks ago and I still don't understand why they made the clutch the way they did I'm glad you brought that up. I almost stall it or lurch the car forward Everytime I drive it due to that weird clutch
Or just don't cut corners and engineer the car to not have torque steer? Crazy idea, I know. Maybe Mazda should get some VW or Honda engineers to join the company, since neither the gti nor the much more powerful civic type-r have any..
I bought a 2013 Speed3 a few months ago I love the car. It sucks that this was the last year for the Speed3, but I am hoping Mazda decides to do the Speed6 6 now that they bought it back. Great review BTW!
A problem i had with mine was that my dash melted! I live in florida and that soft touch material you mentioned in the beginning of the video would just melt in the florida sun. It was definitely a pain in the ass and made the interior looks ugly
Focus st motor in iT loving that I think we’re getting one! Hopefully. I really like the 4 door hatch and the space in there seems like a really really good bang for buck
Hey I was wondering if you can do a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5s review. I have this car and I really see a lot of this car around. Thanks and I like your reviews!
Vw Mkv r32, mkvi golf R, Audi a3 3.2 s line, audi a4 b5 and b6 , Honda s2000 , wrx sti hatchback , evo 7 and 8 , vw phaeton, BMW 1 series and those are some reviews from you sofyan i would like to see
A very surprising car. I bought a '13 a few weeks ago and while having read pretty much everything there is about this car and having owned several fast cars in the past, the first words out of my mouth while driving it off the lot were, "HOLY $%%#!" You better be awake when your foot gets heavy.
so, in terms of how quick it feels, how does this compare to that sti you just reviewed? Because although the sti has a much faster 0-60 and 1/4 time, I hear that the speed 3 can keep up with the sti from a roll :)
There are many pages of reports for transmission or clutch failures and horror stories for the Focus ST on the fan forums. I almost bought one myself until I read them.
***** I'm not trolling, I really did read a lot of pages of reports about transmission problems. I was in the market for a hatchback, and ST had some serious discounts that pushed its price down to very good points. I was about a week away from purchasing it myself, but ended up going with something else instead. I know there are plenty of "good" STs out there, but apparently the transmission problem is like landmines, you either get it or you don't. If you don't believe me, look up edmunds' consumer feedback, ST nation, and focusst.org. The latter two are fan forums, and there are tons of lengthy threads discussing this.
***** I know any car can get problems, but I stumbled upon it by accident, and after I went out to research the Mazda instead, I didn't see complaints of that magnitude. Suppose the landmine rate for one car is 5%, while the other is 1%, which one do you go for? You're 500% as likely to step on one with the former compared to the latter. This is why reliability score, even just a few percentage makes a huge difference. I know when I buy a car that the last thing I want to spend time doing is maintaining it and taking it to the dealer, so I'll take peace of mind over anything else in a close call situation like this.
Andrew Bourgeois Actually that's not right. The Focus ST first deputed in 2005 as a hot version of the Mk2 Focus, while the Mazda3 MPS first came about in 2006. Also the current Focus ST is effectively a second generation bbased on the Mk3 Focus. Regardless, the transmission problem seems to be on newer models (2013+), so I'm not sure you can use production maturity as a justification.
Yes, the clutch is (considered) an intermediate race clutch. It's engagement is lightning quick, and the clutch catches just off the floor--we're talking centimeters. From a beginners perspective, it's going to be very, very, very picky as far as stalling or not stalling goes. However, the clutch is a lot more lenient if you do butcher a shift. You won't snap your neck per se. The stick is going to be quite hard for a beginner. The rubber shifter bushings may cause you to miss many, many shifts as a beginner. Meaning, if you pull back on the stick too hard, you may feel the stick bounce off the gear. As you try to push the stick back into slot, you will grind the gear even with the clutch in.
I recently purchased the 2013 Mazda Speed3, Its my first manual car. I learned within 3 days. I started driving my Speed3 regularly within 5-7 days. As i was learning, i was borrowing my dads car which was a automatic. MazdaSpeed3 is really fun to drive. & with those racing pedals , it helped me a lot even though people say its harder to learn on. But once you get it down packed, its second nature. Don't worry you'll be fine.
I don't mind the look of the MS3 for the average commuter. But the Speed 3 should be more sporty. It still looks soft and like a stock Mazda 3 hatch. I mean it's got the performance, would be nice to see a more aggressive look for this trim.
I own this car and I don't even notice the torque steer everyone says. It doesn't even come to mind. I will say the clutch takes getting used to. But as far as I'm concerned, torque steer isn't even a problem.
Its been a great car for me over the last 2 years. I have a 2010 and have had 0 issues with it. On road trips, i've hand calculated 32 mpg at about 70mph so the fuel economy ratings are conservative highway- wise. My only complaint is the rear motor mount is too soft which causes 2nd to grind when driving hard or at the track
Hyundai Velostar, touche and agreed. If you are concerned about things like an auto transmission, this is not the car for you. You might also be appalled by the fact that it doesn't have an auto parallel park feature or back up camera. Actually, for those folks, I highly recommend a Camry. Totally safe, totally loaded, and totally boring. I recommend the gold color.
I think the car is so good looking and sporty, but i do think the grill does not look the best. Tho in my opinion the grill on the regular 2010-11 Mazda 3 sedan looks way better and sportier. I would just swap out this grill for that one and it would look much better!
09 seats looks better. auto up down switch is awesome. this car def needs 245 or 255s anyone have a short shifter on gen 2 with short shifting plate? how does it feel compared to a gen 1 with short shirt shifter and short shifting plate? is the gen 2 glove box as deep as the gen 1 is that stock exhaust? sounds nice. i thought it was a 2.5 engine? is that a gen 1 tmic cover? what year did they change the engine to a 2.5?
Actually I had a 2010 and got a 2013 over the weekend. The 2010-2012 compared to the 2013 has differences that are more than cosmetic. Mazda remapped the ECU to deliver better power and manage the torque steer more effectively. My 2013 stock feels as fast as my 2010 with a Corksport Stage II intake. The suspension has been stiffened too. Also the 3rd gear clunkiness has been eradicated.
Sadly it seems at the moment that Mazda is not planing SPEED 3 in the next gen "KODO" Mazda3... :-( We will see but my info directly from Hiroshima friend sounds like no SPEED 3 or MPS (in Europe and other areas) is coming. Again I pray to be wrong on this one :-). Nice review. I am buying this older version because I do not now see the new coming. There are rumours about Speed 6 BUT with diesel we will see...
its because its leaning more towards performance than comfort. A sun roof can be heavy and is in the worst position possible (up high) performance-wise
$895 moonroof option so yup. I got mine without (used) and don't mind. Had an RSX Type-S and I do miss the visceral nature but the turbo can be brutal in the ms3.
If you want a car that does everything for you buy a St, now if you want a drivers car then go with the speed 3 cause its a lot more fun to drive. Yes I own a speed and have driven the ST
"Im looking forward to see what the next gen speed 3 looks like" ...
*A single tear rolls down cheek*
Isho my thoughts exactly 😭
Yes tears shed, but not for me. The more rare this car becomes the better resale value I get from mine.
Damn...I felt that.

We do remember a very persistent request for a Speed3, glad you enjoyed the video! Now, its onto finding a WRX to film ;)
going through a turn smashing the boost "there's a lotta torque steer"
Love the fact that its only manual
Every sports car should just be manual no low balling

My '13 speed 3 has the leather. I don't think they went backwards, I think the leather is reserved for the speed.

The most reliable hot hatch in its class!
Have a 2010 speed3 with 116k miles. Drives like a champ and never gets boring to drive

the tires are wider on second gen. i noticed that when i went from 215 to 255 it had more torque steer.

2013 Honda Accord Sports 6MT VS 2013 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 6MT. Which one is better?
Im glad your back sofyan great review as always thnks
Sure hope Mazda learns much when they work on the next generation Speed3. Competition is tougher now.
Should be up later this week :)
I believe it has stiffening in the roof helps handling hence no sun roof
I’m still looking forward to how that might look

Wow I like seeing new videos from you guys like this
Any chance you'll be getting your hands on the 2014 Mazda6 anytime soon?
Been thinking about trading my 3 in for a speed3. I'm worried about longevity. Think it will last as long as my skyactiv?
I pulled up a 2013 ms3 today at work and the clutch is not heavy at all i actually felt it kinda light but not as light as my fiesta's clutch
no, the speed doesn't need to be ore refined at all imo. I'm one of those people who would rather performance, and feeling the road of luxury any day.
Hell yeah that's why I bought an ms6 over a GTI

Can you do an Audi a4 b6 or b7 generation ? I'd love to see both actually or even an s4 from the b6 generation
Can We get an sti? Nobody has a good tour of them unfortunately.

Im not sure if you did one already but can you do a recent subaru legacy 2010-
how much is insurance on one of these hatchbacks? is maintenance expensive? I hope to get one soon
Gabriel Mundo just got the 2013 and my insurance is about 200 a month

zxbc Let me put it to you this way, the Mazdaspeed 3 is deep into its 2nd generation. The Focus ST just came out.
