Cool Down Your Jeep XJ A Few Degrees By Installing Hood Vents

  • In this video I install hood vents onto my Spooky Jeep project. The Jeep Cherokee XJ has been known to have temp issues and this is a cheap and easy way to get out ahead of the problem. There are many ways of tackling overheating issues but this is a good way to help heat escape the engine bay especially when out on the trail. These hood vents are from RodLouvers and can be found on amazon for under $100 and are specific to the Jeep Cherokee Platform but can be used on almost any rig. Hope you like this video and find it helpful. Any questions please feel free to ask in the comments and I will answer as soon as possible. Thanks for watching.

    I like how thorough you are in explaining the installation process. I also like that you include the purpose for the vents. Upon watching this video, I have decided that I could totally install vents on a jeep.

    Hey Iv been thinking about getting some hood vents for my xj but I’m worried about water leaking in to the motor from car wash and rain do you know any hood vents that don’t leak water

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are lots of hood vent options out there but not many that are specifically designed for the XJ. For the most part everything under the hood is designed to get wet. Rain and car washes shouldn’t be an issue, the only time it might be is when parked for extended periods. I have seen where guys have mad little covers for their vents that are magnetic just to keep water out when sitting for a while.

    How much has it reduced your temp. I live in a very hot area and struggle with keeping my temp below 210

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It lowered overall between 5 and 10 degrees on the open road but out on the trail it has really helped keep my temps more stable and kept it from getting too hot.

    Does the Thor intake work well?

      @ProjectVenture  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like it a lot. It’s been to long since I’ve driven without one to really remember what it was like without it. Aside from performance I really like how much more room it gave me under the hood. I have a video of my install on my channel as well.

    So I noticed you started with a cut off wheel and the changed what tool you were using.

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I was going to use the cutoff wheel and I noticed it was getting my fresh paint too hot. The tool I ended up using is a nibbler which is non abrasive and just kind of chips away at the metal.

    Did it make any significant difference to your running temp?

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It actually has been running 5-10 degrees cooler on average. On the trail I’ve noticed that my temps stay more steady where as before they would fluctuate depending on trail conditions.

    question how much water gets into the engine bay? what do i need to seal up?

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t seal up anything. No water should get in it while driving, if so it would be very little. Everything under the hood is designed to get somewhat wet. If you live somewhere that rains nonstop or gets lots of snow I would recommend covering them when parked. There are a lot of forums where people made little magnetic covers for them.

    How bout gettin water on your engine when it rains….any problems???

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn’t a really big issue unless you get tons of rain. I’ve heard of people having problems when they get a lot of snow build up when parked but I live in the desert where we don’t see any snow.

    What happens when it rains?

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Things can get a little wet, but nothing that wasn’t designed to get wet already. When driving in the rain nothing gets through because of the fin direction. When sitting still the water that gets through is not enough to have to worry about.
