@@vehcorhey Scott… if you wouldn’t mind… at the 20:00 mark you spoke about the TSB and RTV around the knock sensors. You said it’s like a little dam and that you let it set up before installing the intake. Are you meaning completely setup? If so, how thick/tall was that bead of RTV? What determined the diameter of the bead? Obviously I’m asking cause I threw a code. Thanks man
I watch a lot of movies, and I chuckle when they show a car that is two-tone when a door, trunk, or hood is opened and the interior color doesn't match the exterior. Your paint job was awesome!
Like your channel, but my OCD has me asking, why don't you pressure wash or otherwise clean anything? When you have everything disassembled seems like the ideal time.
I had forgotten about this rolled red Chevy truck. I learned a lot from this video! Thanks Scott!! Scott, in addition to the Haters' Tears coffee mug, you gotta make and sell a Haters' Tears insulated water bottle, just like you show on your vids!!!
We did this job on my 2012 Tahoe. Removed intake manifold and found NO knock sensors! Bought an updated service manual and found on 2012’s, knock sensors on outside bottom of engine. Replaced them in 10 minutes. We could’ve saved 3 hours removing intake manifold. Oh well! Great job, Scott!
Anyone who has anything negative to say about the level of work Scott does needs to get a life. I challenge anyone to look over that truck and know it's been re painted let alone rolled over. Nice job!
Was questioning your sanity on this one! Hush my mouth! LOL Thing turned out gorgeous! Damn shame about not getting that pizza! Need to send the foreman shepherd on a pizza run. Just don’t give him your credit card! That unexpected overnight order of 10,000 dog toys, and a prebuilt fully furnished dog condo? Amazon is a scary place! 😂
Great tip. I had to get my ABS module done about 10 years ago. Don't remember the company, but yeah mailed the unit off and was back a few days later. At the time was a 100 bucks. I put foil around the top of the solenoids and drove it that way while waiting, no problems. Been great ever since.
@@vehcormy 04 Suburban Z71 has been an Ohio truck all its life and it still has solid quarters and rockers and literally no rust on the body anywhere i can find, or underneath...quite shocking to me as all three of my other GMT800s were rotted
Reminds me of my younger years. Had a 02 rcsb stepside black z71 5.3 . Loaded truck with dual power buckets. Man I miss that truck. Also had a 99 rcsb dark blue z71 with blue interior, that was the first rebuild I ever did at 16. We got the truck rearended and I put a bedside on it and straightened the frame. Put a plow on it and plowed a few years with it. Did a lot of things a 1/2 ton shouldn’t have 😂 oh to be young again
I just wanted to say thank you for this video series. Been working on a 03 Sierra 2500HD since last summer. I didn't have the wisdom to start with something rust free 😅. Instead I started with a low milage used and abused Wisconsin "yard truck" that thankfully had a decent frame . Swapped the bed last summer and just picked up a rust free cab yesterday. Your videos were super informative. From how to get the dash apart to how to disassemble the cab panels. Really appreciate all the work, information and humor. Thank you!
I love this project!!! As a bodyman myself, you did this project exactly the way I would have, with only a few exceptions. While you had the cab off, I would have changed the knock sensors, oil pressure sender and rear main seal. As long as it has 75,000 miles or more, that is… That would have also been a good time to check for any other leaks, like the oil pan, valve covers, etc. with no cab and fenders, it’s a breeze. This is your most practical build!
Great job Scott. I would have guessed a little more money than you are asking for this truck. From what I can see, whoever buys it, is getting a good deal! Thanks for posting this and keep 'em coming.
Scott you are “The Man” when it comes to truth in automotive rebuilds and repairs. Can you do a segment on Honda Pilots with the J35 engines explaining the pros and cons of Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) and how to bypass / defeat it.
After watching the cam sensor vid and then coming back over here to finish, I agree with sensors and the like needing to be OEM. You didn't mention the gaskets... I avoid oem like the plague...Fel-Pro or nothing for me.
I really enjoyed this rebuild. Thanks for saving this great pickup. It's the ultimate in recycling. Excellent job. The buyer of this pickup will be fortunate.
I will now and forever call the void between the intake and lifter valley "Narnia." I will however, continue to call the area between the intake and oil pan "Never Never Land."
Owned my 05 since 06 at 27k miles, check engine has only came on twice since then but nothing serious and not knock sensor either, almost at 300k now and I also beat on it daily and it’s had 9 sets of big wheels while also stil beating on it and towing, still going strong but it’ll need a 6.0 soon lol
Nice job on the rebuild. Truck turned out nice. Scott cleaning was a good plot twist. At least you didn't cave on the interior cleaning. That's what the gnomes are for.
Nice looking pickup! Good for another 20 years or so. There's always a few "extras" when fixing vehicles lately. Like when my neighbor has a "broken sprinkler." Can't wait to see what happens when the clocks get turned back on Nov 5th. I don't have a Supervisor like you. Maybe that's a plus?
Just checked the video on your problem scott just shows that unfortunately if you don’t follow your own rules it can hurt you but at least you found the problem before you sold the truck on, great post and very instructive
Watching this reminds me of the time I was required to replace the intake manifold gasket on a 99 1500 Ram truck I had just purchased. Glad it wasn't as involved as this Chevy truck was. Think I will stick with the Dodge as it still runs great.
Scott i just wanted to thank you for the info for upfix i had my ebcm done by them too wit out you would have not known about them if it wasn’t for you
Scott…Great Series! I enjoyed every video. Now I want to go tear apart a Chevy truck. Have you seen where the mice chew the foam and live under the manifold? While in there, they chew up the Knock sensor wires!!
good effort Scott - a half descent and respectable rebuilt giving the old lady a new lease of life for someone - them new parts must have near doubled the value of the vehicle (perhaps worth more than the vehicle) - my poor old Audi S3 is now off the road, getting too expensive to run in the UK, but a chance to slowly slowly strip and rebuild, cleaning bits too, well you know what its like Scott, got to clean for the clean freaks sake
Nice work! You always do a good job and do it right... love these old trucks... still look great and are fine for work and play... and the best thing affordable!
Bad News Scott…went to Home Depot today and I couldn’t find a single Razor blade or a Sawsall blade in the parking lot …times are getting tough out there!😒

Awesome! I should have been saving my money when you first started this repair... This is gorgeous! Short bed regular cab 4x4s are so cool. It'll be gone quick for sure.
Scott ... you're SLACKING ... I see you didn't put the "Z71" stickers back on the bed sides. While both of us know it was a $300 option back on 2002 and really didn't mean much, those who might buy the thing think vehicles with the sticker on them were gold plated or something.
Surprised you didn’t fix the abs unit yourself, you fix everything else and they are pretty simple, usually just reflowing the solder joints fixes them.
