It should be mentioned that it's common fan canon that V1 isn't hot-swapping arms, he's just grafting the arms on and eventually appears like a machine Vishnu. Considering some of the official album art, it's apparently been subtly made canon.

I randomly came up with a headcanon pertaining to V1's arsenal and his ar-m-senal. His "Wings" store the weapons as data to be able to be reconstructed as matter anytime, allowing quick swaps. As for his arms, he does something similar by just swapping the data. (Based on P-2's terminal entry)

From 13 minutes to almost two hours, man how things change. I also think that the section on 2-S was really well done as someone that has struggled with anxiety and depression. On the topic of Fallout, you may wanna check out Planescape: Torment if the first two games have been to your liking. I don't think they play the same way (Planescape is a D&D game on the Infinity Engine like Baldur's Gate), but it's by the same developers and has some great writing.
One thing I absolutely love about Gabriel (aside that he kicked my ass) is that he’s one giant tribute to Vergil from Devil May Cry. Hell even one of his one liners is ripped right out of dmc, “Foolishness, Machine. Foolishness”. In addition to summon swords
Hakita really got us to play what we thought would be something serious, only to subvert our expectations and have it be a dating SIM/visual novel, only to subvert our expectations again by having Mirage express her battle with anxiety and nihilism, only to subvert our expectations AGAIN by having us help her and convincing her that it is wrong to waste your life because of nihilism. 2-S literally changed my life. I remember the first time I played through it, I was entrenched in Nihilism, and I was even playing ULTRAKILL just to escape from my lack of purpose. I remember laughing at the subversion of expectations, then slowly becoming more and more jaded as the nihilistic philosophy suddenly emerged and I realized what Mirage was saying mirrored my thoughts exactly. I was suddenly jolted from my escapism, and it made me extremely uncomfortable. I just sort of agreed with everything she said while my mental state progressively lowered. And then that screen came on. “You’re wrong” That immediately caught my attention. I read my way through the rest of the dialogue, and I literally felt my worldview shift as the protagonist completely annihilated my toxic philosophy. I was blown away, and at the end of the secret, I just got up and thought for a good long while about what I was doing with my life. 2-S inspired me to look for another way of seeing the world, and through that I found the works of Albert Camus and the philosophy of Absurdism, which states that the meaninglessness and struggles of the universe are the very things that make life worth living. I read his book, the Myth of Sisyphus, and I became an Absurdist, essentially a positive Nihilist. I still continue to improve every day, and now, like Sisyphus, I try to appreciate and even relish in the struggle of pushing the burden of life’s hardships up the mountain of human experience. All of that was thanks to ULTRAKILL. I know Hakita is possibly setting up a bait and switch with the second Prime Sanctum and it won’t be Sisyphus, but at the same time, I desperately hope it’s him. Sisyphus is the embodiment of the philosophy of absurdism, and I would love to see Hakita’s interpretation of him in ULTRAKILL. Also, the Mindflayer section was extremely well done. This video overall is fantastic, amazing work! Your penance is accepted and you are forgiven for your crimes against the pinnacle of game design and sequel to sex.
Same here. When I first played S-2, I had no idea what I was getting into. That day marked a big change for me. I no longer feel like my life is meaningless as long as I give it meaning. Unfortunately for me, "meaning" to me apparently means doing weaponless P% speedruns of ULTRAKILL at 144p because I think it's funny.
1:12:50 The malicious railcannon can actually hit cores to create a larger even more highly damaging explosion called a "Nuke" by the community. It's one of the most essential pieces of tech for playing the Cyber Grind at a high level.
42:06 The line “Let the evil of their own lips cover them” is almost 100% a reference to the album “Let the Evil of His Own Lips Cover Him” by Lingua Ignota. It’s a fantastic album and Hakita has the album as a 5 star on his rym page.
Now that you’ve gotten this banger out, you can finally start working on that Mario Sunshine video for Gabriel hahaha Seriously though, the effort put into this one by yourself and Elliot is very clear; a treat for newer and older players alike! And from me personally, I really appreciate that 2-S section.
For the Flesh prison I find that using the red railgun actually works really well to get rid of half the minions at the start of when they spawn. just shot the corner of the boss when they spawn them and poof half are immediately gone
19:30 the file for the codex picture of the malicious face was just named Maurice and the community ran with it hakita even added a style bonus named mauriced when you crush an enemy with his corpse when he falls
I like just how consistent Minos is, after you beat him for the first time it just gets easier, and eventually you’ll do it every time, then you’ll try fist only, then you’ll get fist only every time, and eventually you’ll struggle to die in the fight. It’s hard, but it’s very very fair
I started playing Ultrakill on act 2's release, buying the deal because I'm not the richest, and heard good things about it from friends, another reason for it is because I heard it's hard and needed to git gud. ...And I died to the Malicous Face 35 times on standard. And V2 made me realize how much i sucked using movement and aiming. And Gabriel definitely made me feel like I was fighting an Angel. This game basically slammed me into the ground over and over again, but because of how fun it was I almost always enjoyed it! And after a month and some days P-Ranking the entire game, I absolutely loved it, even getting good enough that on Violent I beat Gabriel the Apostate first try. This game's got something only it can satiate... Like Blood for the Machine. The music, the graphics and accessibility, weapons, combos and style, it just flows so well like butter and vaseline over a slip and slide, and you are going to be making tricks on it at the end of it. Overall, all I can say is it was an incredibly good deal.
Been watching since the first ultrakill video and I’m glad you that you returned to it because it gave me the drive to P rank Minos prime so thanks for that but seriously keep up the great work.
to clarify: gluttony isn't really the inside of minos (because the layer had to exist before minos did.) instead, it's more of a pocket dimension sort of situation--as the rest of hell is--where the entrance to a place does not exactly lead to the next physical place but somewhere outside of it. this explains how later levels are able to have open skyboxes.
28:44 quick tip: the weapon freshness meter's minimum caps itself based on the amount of weapons (and varients) you have equipped up to 4. At 1 weapon/varient, the stays at fresh (1.5x) At 2, it caps at used (x1) At 3, it caps at stale (x0.5) At 4+, it caps at dull (x0) TLDR; if you want high freshness, do the jerma strat (unequip all of your weapons)
I appreciate people like you. It takes a specific and special kind of person to be able to look past funny robot girl and take things like that seriously, but genuinely, it’s good to see. I like This Trav Guy :)
14:55 "A superhero landing that deals a flat two damage." The screen turns red with the crunch filling my ears, then everything stops for a second on that frame of pure crimson since an ad tried to load. The freeze added a lot to that moment for some reason lol
For those that don’t know or are as confused as trav about why malicious is called maurice If you crush an enemy under a malicious face (aka kill a malicious, and he crushes an enemy while falling) you get a style point called “maurice’d”
Well, yes, you do get the +MAURICED, but it does not explain _why_ it is Maurice. It's Maurice because of a meme, where originally there were 2 images next to another with one of a giant, intimidating spider labeled "Gigamesh the Consumer of Reality" and then a small, barely visible ladybug labeled "maurice". Someone then edited it to replace the spider with the Corpse of King Minos and the ladybug with the Malicious Face. Hakita saw it, liked it, and thus +MAURICED was born.
1:38:30 Fun Fact: Minos Prime's voice actor also voiced MC Ballyhoo, the host from Mario Party 8. I have sat on this information for months, unsure of what to do with it. Please use it wisely.
I tried the demo of Ultrakill for the first time yesterday, it feels like I'm playing TF2 as scout but with the entirety of the game's weapons at once. It's ridiculous, and I love it. I will buy this game whence I can

For those wondering and not willing to go back and test it; Yes, Something Wicked does respawn if you pick the red skull back up and not back at some dedicated respawn point. He will appear back in the same spot he disappeared from, still moving towards you. So don't tempt fate for too long...
37:42 Yeah, I remember when it wasn't possible to influence the direction of the slide, you would have to go to the beggining of the level a few times before aiming at the perfect center to not hit a wall
So cool thing about the nail gun. You can fire A SINGLE NAIL from the blue variant, and it will completely fill the overheat on the green variant. Makes melting Maurice even more of a breeze than it already was

44:28 In Inferno, Limbo is where all the good but non-religious people go. Its "punishment" is meant to be a psychological one, as the people who went there forever have to live with the fact that they could not get into heaven. Ultrakill takes this idea by making Limbo a mock version of earth, with force fields as walls, speakers that play the sounds of birds, and fake waterfalls and fake grass and tree. Its like living in a cardboard cutout version of earth for eternity.
And to add on to that, in Limbo’s Climax, “Hank” was given those 3 skulls that could open access towards the deeper layers, adding another piece of psychological torture. _They aren’t stuck in limbo, _*_as the deeper layers of Hell are opened to them._* Essentially the inhabitants of Limbo are forced to eternally know that they were so… _”close”_ to heaven, but didn’t make it, and that they can go deeper into Hell if they choose to.
Firstly: Awesome video, really well explained and entertaining, you got a new sub! Also, Everything Everywhere all at Once is one of my favourite movies of all times.
glad to see someone else call our side of the 2-S thing optimistic nihilism, 2-S literally said both sides of my mind, the conscious and unconscious battling for it's voice to be heard over the other. it did help me stay consciously optimistic of not having meaning by default

Long-time lurker with mild interactions via your streams, I always try to set time aside for your videos and watch these suckers in the bg cuz your detailing helps paint the picture even when I'm not wholly attentive of the video screen. My first watch of your original Ultrakill video def had me under the same ideas you noted in this videos intro and I'm really glad you decided to revisit this one, not only to talk about the game's later-added acts, but to also right a wrong you felt you made. It's a true sign of growth in my eyes! As an aside, this video also reminded me of another reviewer/retrospective channel I watch, Geek Critique, and his redo video of DKC3 as he felt his original video was not made in the right headspace and he wanted to do it right (albeit with a cheeky April Fools joke throughout the video). Your videos on the various Arena Shooters outside of Doom have definitely have been my absolute favorite collection just due to how in-depth you can get about things. While yes, my first major interaction with you was during the Arena Shooter renaissance a la Doom 2016 (at least that's where I feel I started seeing a lot more eyes put onto the genre) BUT NOW I get excited seeing you go on about all these clever or interesting oldie/indie shooters that I may have never thought or seen because my purview was largely focused on the giant known as Doom. Obviously cheers to you and to your editor for putting in so much effort in detailing gun/enemy info cuz being able to understand nitty gritty mechanics really shows how much passion one has for the game's craft. I'll definitely be nabbing this game once it hits full release just from how passionate this game's community has been. this is the first I've seen of yours and I'm super impressed by your audio quality, editing, and general presence at the mic, good stuff!
Yay, thank you!
1:26:35 wow, even the game roasts Trav. Gianni really spoke the facts.
Trav has a skill issue
Nah, he really just listened to what he was told.

I tested it with fullbright, he does respawn if you pick up the skull. The most evil thing is that I'm pretty sure he's programmed to run directly towards the pedestal when you do
Truly wicked.
hakita is a madman and I’m here for it
Yes? (This is the 6th time I've pulled this joke.)
Fun fact: As of writing this, the JUMPSTART NAILGUN allows you to complete 1-2's challenge without the railcannon.
It should be mentioned that it's common fan canon that V1 isn't hot-swapping arms, he's just grafting the arms on and eventually appears like a machine Vishnu. Considering some of the official album art, it's apparently been subtly made canon.
That also explains how his double gun powerup still has a melee available. (Doesn’t explain where he gets the other guns though)
@@unknownentityenthusiast6765 every swordsmachine has a shotty so they're in no short supply, and V2 proves there are other revolvers and nailguns in hell. Maybe he gets them in bulk at the terminal.
@@unknownentityenthusiast6765 either that or the double weapon power up is just a bunch of guns in an orb. Clearance sale because they're near their expiration date.
Thanks for referencing the SFM videos made by the ULTRAKILL community Trav'! It's really appreciated! ;)
Also, for all the good Mirage's segment did to me, I am a bit mad that she doesn't exist... if just for that SFM meme:
Gabriel: _"Machine, your feelings for her are not real."_
V1: *_tHEY aRE rEAL tO mE!_*
Oh you might be mistaken; I made this SFM video. I shared it to the Ultrakill Server a while back, so you may have seen it there! But rest assured, it was my own project that I put my own time into :)
@@ThatTravGuy Oh, wow! Good job Trav! x)

Been playing planescape, and it's a goddamn masterpiece, though disco Elysium might be better
One thing I absolutely love about Gabriel (aside that he kicked my ass) is that he’s one giant tribute to Vergil from Devil May Cry. Hell even one of his one liners is ripped right out of dmc, “Foolishness, Machine. Foolishness”. In addition to summon swords
So happy you made the "On a Rail" reference in 2-4, so often I think of the parallel, and so little I see people mentioning it.
❤😢😢🎉

Hakita really got us to play what we thought would be something serious, only to subvert our expectations and have it be a dating SIM/visual novel, only to subvert our expectations again by having Mirage express her battle with anxiety and nihilism, only to subvert our expectations AGAIN by having us help her and convincing her that it is wrong to waste your life because of nihilism. I think it’s pretty cute that the notes for Gabriel is just: Hi Gianni :)
wake up babe, new trav guy video dropped
wakey wakey, is time fo Trav vid
Yes honey...
“You’re wrong”
That immediately caught my attention.
@@gregoirebasseville4797 Ikr? I never thought a game like ULTRAKILL could do that for me, but it really did. It was an incredible awakening.

The malicious railcannon can actually hit cores to create a larger even more highly damaging explosion called a "Nuke" by the community.
Now that you’ve gotten this banger out, you can finally start working on that Mario Sunshine video for Gabriel hahaha
Seriously though, the effort put into this one by yourself and Elliot is very clear; a treat for newer and older players alike! And from me personally, I really appreciate that 2-S section.
For the Flesh prison I find that using the red railgun actually works really well to get rid of half the minions at the start of when they spawn. just shot the corner of the boss when they spawn them and poof half are immediately gone
or nuke
Or you can core nuke in the middle to take all the eyes.(i might be a lil late)
19:30 the file for the codex picture of the malicious face was just named Maurice and the community ran with it
hakita even added a style bonus named mauriced when you crush an enemy with his corpse when he falls
11 month old 1 like moment
You cannot convince me to call the "soldier" the soldier, it's always gonna be Pepsi man in my mind (*´-`)
Come on he isn’t THAT similar
to clarify: gluttony isn't really the inside of minos (because the layer had to exist before minos did.) instead, it's more of a pocket dimension sort of situation--as the rest of hell is--where the entrance to a place does not exactly lead to the next physical place but somewhere outside of it. this explains how later levels are able to have open skyboxes.
23:47 oh gosh, you did it... Now I can't unhear Sonic 3 special stage music..
28:44 quick tip: the weapon freshness meter's minimum caps itself based on the amount of weapons (and varients) you have equipped up to 4.
At 1 weapon/varient, the stays at fresh (1.5x)
At 2, it caps at used (x1)
At 3, it caps at stale (x0.5)
At 4+, it caps at dull (x0)
TLDR; if you want high freshness, do the jerma strat (unequip all of your weapons)
Wait seriously? Thanks for the tip!
Literally how I P-ranked 1-4, basic marksman alone is still good
I appreciate people like you. It takes a specific and special kind of person to be able to look past funny robot girl and take things like that seriously, but genuinely, it’s good to see. I like This Trav Guy :)
loved it a lot, especially that therapy part.
oh my god that soldier introduction was fantastic, props for going all the way with it
14:55 "A superhero landing that deals a flat two damage." The screen turns red with the crunch filling my ears, then everything stops for a second on that frame of pure crimson since an ad tried to load. The freeze added a lot to that moment for some reason lol
For those that don’t know or are as confused as trav about why malicious is called maurice
If you crush an enemy under a malicious face (aka kill a malicious, and he crushes an enemy while falling) you get a style point called “maurice’d”
That’s not why they are called Maurice.
A hour and fifty minutes of content? Wasn't expecting that but i am 100% here for it.
I tried the demo of Ultrakill for the first time yesterday, it feels like I'm playing TF2 as scout but with the entirety of the game's weapons at once.
It's ridiculous, and I love it. I will buy this game whence I can

that cerb railcoin moment is so awesome
It takes a good creator to make a good video, but a phenomenal creator to admit they were wrong and go back to revisit the subject matter. Huge respect
Aw thank you
Your description of "Optimistic Nihilism" is and has been my legitimate worldview for a good year or so now, I have been using the phrase Existentialism to describe it albeit I dont know if thats exactly accurate of a term. Nonetheless This is how I quite frankly believe the world is and its good to see im not just talking out of my ass when I tell people about it and describe it.
This video introduced me to what is now my favorite game ever that I now have almost a thousand hours in. Thank you, trav guy, for introducing me to this kick ass game.
For those wondering and not willing to go back and test it; Yes, Something Wicked does respawn if you pick the red skull back up and not back at some dedicated respawn point. He will appear back in the same spot he disappeared from, still moving towards you. So don't tempt fate for too long...
The title "ULTRAKILL act III: Godfist Suicide" is so edgy that it loops back around to being cool.
This has gotta be my favourite redemption arc I've seen on TH-cam. Proud of you dude

So cool thing about the nail gun. You can fire A SINGLE NAIL from the blue variant, and it will completely fill the overheat on the green variant. Makes melting Maurice even more of a breeze than it already was
47:03 Doing this on the Turrets from ACT 2 really helps

Try this for a bit of fun:
1. Go into any difficulty and into the level select.
2. Press F8
3. Type "prefs set int difficulty 5"
4. Press Escape.
5. Have fun!
It lets you change the difficulty to the locked ones.

In Inferno, Limbo is where all the good but non-religious people go.
Minos prime often says "Die". This is a small indicator to the fact he will, in fact kill you
He also says "JUDGEMENT". This is an implication that he is going to judge V1 for crimes against humanity.
From what I've seen, Brutal difficulty makes ALL damage you take turn to hard damage.
Edit: Nope, but you do take a lot more hard damage.
If a malicious face's corpse lands on an enemy and kills it, it'll add +mauriced into the style meter
"[Streetcleaners] are the only enemies that can die from fall damage."
besides v2 apparently lmao
Firstly: Awesome video, really well explained and entertaining, you got a new sub!
Also, i just loved the dating sim part, and i too have this kind of "well, if everything is meaningles, let's get the best out of it" way of thinking, and this kind of subject always make me positive towards life, because i chose to see in an empowering manner. Also, Everything Everywhere all at Once is one of my favourite movies of all times.
v1 killing everyone on earth only to kill them again in HELL is now my favourite headcanon

glad to see someone else call our side of the 2-S thing optimistic nihilism, 2-S literally said both sides of my mind, the conscious and unconscious battling for it's voice to be heard over the other. it did help me stay consciously optimistic of not having meaning by default

1:42:06 I noticed that when fighting pinos you were only dashing out of his attacks. Just holding the slide button and changing directions will almost always allow you to dodge his 3 hit combo, allowing you to store up your dashes for his JUDGEMENT! or other attacks
The name “ Maurice “ comes from the style combo that you get from killing enemies with the Malicious Face corpse.
+MAURICED.
that was added after the community dubbed him maurice
Fun fact (also spoiler warning)
Minos saying “WEAK!” and “USELESS!” is directed at himself.
Love the video as per usual. Your long-format content is by far some of my favorite on youtube! Keep up the good work! Came across your channel for the Mega Man content, stayed for the well-produced long-format content.
I fucking love your description of Crberus... "He is fucking *BALLIN* "
I thought you were meant to bait Gabriel into ground pounding off the edge for the 3-2 challenge
The way I did it was accidentally getting launched off the edge, Gabriel immediately did a ground slam, went in the pit, killed himself, and let me get both the challenge and P Rank for 3-2 on the same attempt by complete accident
42:27 to clear it up the most of the secret terminals are from the perspective of God except for one I can remember mentioning that the terminals at the beginning of levels are alive and the “points” are them paying you for entertainment which is also the explanation for the cyber grind
Lust's secret level reminds me of a song that I used to listen to. "Momento Mori- The most important thing in The World" By Will Wood also hits the theme of "Nothing Matters, So you Might as well live your best life"
I felt the same way with Everything Everywhere All At Once
hes called Maurice because when he crushes an enemy it says maurice in the points area
Videos on the original fallouts (Especially done by you) would be absolutely fantastic! As always, great video, and inspiration to try it myself. So excited for the system shock remake because of your video.
Honestly, I'm really happy to see such a chunky video!
Excited to see what you get to moving forward but know you have an avid lurker supporting you =w=)vb
