If you're wondering about the revolver zoom in that one port, I'm 90% sure it has to do with the fact that the revolver acts that way in the multiplayer deathmatch mode of HL1. The mod just uses vanilla HL1's multiplayer functions, so the revolver's behavior was carried over from that.
Yeah man I played a bunch of HL1 DM back during the WON days. Such great times, but some things were different between SP and MP. Like the Tau cannon charge pushback isn't in SP but it's one of the biggest things it's known for.

Fun fact about the chapter "Intensity". There is a button right next to where you spawn that, if you hit within 5 seconds, will result in Keller cutting his monologue short by saying "Good job doing previous stuff. Let's move on to doing new stuff.". It's really useful if you want to spend less time listening to Keller before you can actually play the level.
34:24 Specifically, he says, "These aliens may not all be here by accident." Combined with something intentionally keeping the rift open, it means the aliens aren't all being teleported to Black Mesa randomly due to the Resonance Cascade but are being sent deliberately to invade it. He's learning about the invasion, not the aliens being at Black Mesa.
Yeah honestly it was kinda wild hearing him talk and realising, no he doesn't just talk like that off a script. That's just how he thinks normally too.
What would have helped solo play is that in Gina/Colette's sound files, there's unused NPC follow lines for both of them (Of the "Following you/I'll stay put/I won't go another step" formats like the Scientists/Security Guards), I can only presume it wasn't implemented due to issues.
I think "player bots" werent a thing in Goldsource until Counter Strike Condition Zero. It may be hard to implement especially considering the time they used for other aspects of the game plus the cancelled Dreamcast port.
The reason Gina ended up in Xen, along with a few other scientists is actually explained by a Opposing Force CTF mutliplayer description for the stage Xen Dance. Here's what it says. “The battle for Black Mesa has taken a turn for the worse as the unstable dimentional rifts become more and more dramatic. Now entire groups locked in battle are finding themselves suddenly and unexpectedly teleported across space to the border world known as "Xen". But even in the strange new surroundings, the battle rages on.” ALSO the part we saw Barney in was when he jumped in the portal back from Xen to Earth, not when he's escaping the facility.
I think it's more likely that the Hoaxer port's Revolver scope is a side effect of the mod being built in Half-Life: Deathmatch, which includes the revolver zoom. I bet if you used impulse 101 the crossbow would be explosive too.
Or when they made a Randy reference, and they showed a can of Crisco. Definitely a reference for the Civvie fans. ((Unless Trav talks about how greasy Randy is too.))
Two words: Balls Invincible. Which is pretty apt for a game with this much Jon St John in it. Also, glad that Civvie clued us in on the channel through this collab. Let's see if we can get Trav up to 100K, eh?
21:45 This version of the revolver is standard in half-life multiplayer. Just log on to any hldm server and pick up the revolver, the sights thing will be there. So I personally think that Decay PC port has this thing just because when playing it with your friends it basically runs a server and there fore HL just toggles the "multiplayer version" of the revolver.
That revolver zoom-in is from the Half-Life deathmatch rules, so presumably the Crossbow also has exploding bolts as the mod port would be using the MP rules of HL1.
18:31 Civvie perfectly summed up how I have felt every day of my adult life... "Alright, I think I understand this puzzle. ... ... I do not understand this puzzle."
The idea of players getting their own exclusive drops so that while they both get everything eventually, they get it at different times, is a really interesting way of encouraging communication and awareness.
One thing I am always reminded of is the Half-life 1 mod - Point of View with Decay's secret level, pretty much an entire unique campaign created by modders that allows you to play as a vortigaunt with new weapons as well. You can tell that Decay's vort level inspired the entire thing and I highly recommend it if you want to have a fun time since it has the same method of healing as in Decay, plus it can also provide some interesting challenges too.
