Sorry guys! I had hoped to get a vlog up today but I’ve been at a family wedding and I’ve been having way too much fun to edit 🥲 I promise there will be a vlog next Sunday! 💖🎥
I‘m a fifth year med student and I‘m only now realizing, that studying 12 hours without a break shouldn‘t be a goal. We need to finally start talking about work-life-balance, how important it is to live (because guess what, it doesn‘t get better in residency). Learning to be more efficient is great, if it helps us get more free time, but we seriously need to stop that productivity trend/who can study the most in a week etc.
You’re so right. What’s the point in studying so many hours if you’re missing out on so many other things? Ofc this is only the case for those who can afford to study less hours. Because some people don’t have a choice
I personally love "studying" for math and physics because working problems is as fun for me as working Sudokus (read: a lot of fun!!) Conversely, I hate studying subjects that demand a lot of memorization, which I am terrible at. I could never have majored in history (although I love reading history for pleasure, when I don't have to recall the dates).
Thank y sweetie, I always thought that I study wrong, but I found someone like me who easily distracts, so studying a lot of hours without any breaks in order not to distract
12 hours with no break ! I'll be having a burnout for rest of the week. Btw the flow state thing is so real. I'm actually interrupting my flow state and here watching your vid. Feeling guilty rn.
I think it's an amazing idea to make breaks boring, because i always struggle with getting back to work and my breaks take a looong time. So now i will go and test this method. Thank you!
I love this style of editing with the flashbacks to old videos of you studying and I just wanted to say as gorgeous as you clearly have always been, your current makeup and hair really brings out your natural features and you look so happy and healthy and glowing from the inside out xx
Agreed. The zeigarnik effect is more beneficial in helping me creatively solve problems, and far outweighs any focus and productivity achieved from getting into a flow state. Stepping away from an unfinished task can be hard to do, but it can be worth it, especially in short manageable intervals.
i always found pomodoro kinda weird bc 20 min is the time where i get into studying sreriously soo i totally AGREE on the flow state thing i used this method for ages now life saver FR
Omg this is literally the advice i needed, i always wondered why I'd lose focus mid day, turns out it's because i use my break using phone and doing something more stimulating, thank you 💗
I think the pomodoro method works if you're doing something that doesn't require a lot of focusing But if I'm trying to understand a subject or memorize it than it will be more annoying than helping
This is the most useful and most importantly RELATABLE video I've ever stumbled across, thank you sooo much!!! 💖 Everyone is talking about the pomodoro method and how good and helpful it is but for me, as you said, once I find myself finally immersed in the studying I don't want to take a break, I tried multiple times to get used to it but I always failed by taking 3-5hrs break on the phone/computer and I blamed it on myself... It is important that we find what works better for each one of us and the no phone method is a MUST for me, I'm either placing it somewhere that is out of reach or I take it into another room so the idea of getting up to grab it seems more difficult and because I have some time to think my action I've found myself getting up to get my phone but then in the middle of it I make a u-turn and coming back without it, in a sense I discourage myself from using it. Out of sight out of mind :)
These are the exact same conclusions I came to after studying 8 hours a day for more than a month. I’ve been saying these things on my instagram stories (except it’s in portuguese) everyday and I hope people apply it to their lives cause it’s truly helpful!! And I am also a religious user of Forest since 2020 when the pandemics made me realize I had no ability to focus at all.
im so happy i found your channel a few months ago, i had been struggling finding a job in the art industry and made the decision to pursue another interest in my life. I'm gonna study nursing this September and I just know its gonna be a difficult one for me, immediately into Bachelors degree with no background in this, i think all of your tips will make it slightly easier for the studying part of it. im just so excited for this and I cant wait to start this new journey!
This is actually an amazing video and whatever she is saying is true , I've unknowingly done the flow method when I was younger and had no phone and was not allowed to play outside. But it was only fr 1 month before my exams
The best way to motivate yourself to study effectively is to pick a major, or have a goal, that you are truly passionate about. Becoming an astronaut comes to mind. 😊
Excellent strategies! 🌱 Balancing intense focus with well-timed, non-stimulating breaks can significantly enhance productivity without leading to burnout.
flow state and focus, if only there was a pill i could take that could get me there easier. also i hate when people interrupt me. it sucks working while also going to school
your videos are literally so valuable...i literally noted down these things for my exam in 30 days...literally there was no beating around the bush!!! thanks a lot Faye
I made another version of the pomodoro. I started the clock and I was only allowed to stopp after it was at least 25 min. Sometimes I checked it ever 5 min.... But even if I got into some kind of flow I wasn't interrupted by the timer. If I felt like I needed a break after 25 min I could make one.
yeah like for me, focusing is hard ig I do have ADHD but the pomodoro is just a fancy thing (25-5min/ 50-10min) that doesn't ever work on me. both the study time and break time it messes me up. This video seems a bit realistic for someone odd like me XD
Forest helps me so much!! I can’t even explain why but it works! I always set it for three hours too. Then it started to become easier to revise. I have three uni exams I’m just hoping now that I’ll get the questions that I like the most!
Everyone us commenting negative on this video. I think you all who are commenting negative did not watch the full video. She does rake breaks. But some people enjoy studying more, or give mire importance to study, that the reason they don't burn out like Normally people do 😊. She is right. If it suits you do it if not dont😅🎉

I am a working person and a student. I usually work for long hours, but after about an hour, I feel lost, and my work remains unfinished. For example, if I have six tasks to complete in ten days, I put in all the effort, but by the end of the deadline, none of the six tasks are fully completed. Sometimes I feel energized and confident, but other times I have very low productivity sessions. Even in my dance class, the teacher says I am putting all my effort in one go and not achieving anything. I assume this happens because I'm not taking breaks or eating properly. Although I have changed my eating routine, if it’s because of not taking breaks, I’m not sure when to take them. When I try setting a 5-minute break for every hour, it doesn’t seem to work. How and when should I take breaks?
I saw a lot many study videos, Honestly this was the BEST 🙏 Straight to the point in just 5 mins. No pomodoro , which i got fed up hearing in all videos 😀 You had your own UNIQUE take on study and Loved it ❤️. I will apply this in my study daily from today. You earned a subscriber , i am new to your channel . Thanks for sharing 🙏
I take breaks to give my brain and eyes a break from the screen but i don't do anything in my break that is stimulating such as lie down and close my eyes, go for a short walk, make brekky etc I don't go on the phone or check emails.
I recomend study bunny (its similar to forest, but you take care of a rabbit) and I love pomodoro, but sometimes i like to study without breaks (1-2 hours and longer break) and I choose pomodoro if I have mood for it or study without breaks if I have for it mood it makes sense.
Hi there, I wanted to ask- what is your opinion on listening to music while studying? Would you say it disrupts the flow state or theres no problem in listening to it?
Strategies to Study for Up to 12 Hours Rule Number 1 Build yourself up. Don’t expect it to happen overnight. Start off small. Time the amount of work you can do and increase it. Rule Number 2 Don’t interrupt your brain when it is trying to get into a flow state. 15 - 20 minutes with no distractions whatsoever. Rule Number 3 Have specific rules for the times you are not studying. The break time spent not studying needs to be less stimulating and more boring than actually studying. This means no phones, which makes it easier to return to studying.
I have diagnosed with bpd , it is very difficult for me to stay focused at my work , my sleeping pattern is very irregular somedays i slept earlier and someday i kept waking up all night I'm so unproductive 😢
Hey! Did you make it to the last point? I don’t advise sitting and studying for 12 hours. As someone who really struggled to focus and get into flow, I’ve found switching out traditional breaks that are more stimulating for less stimulating “breathers” has really helped.
For me (also diagnosed ADHD) pomodoro doesn't work. Because when i finnaly catch a flow (sometimes after 40 minutes), in pomodoro method it's time to break. So I prefer to work 2 hours long and get longer rest
does anyone have any recommendations of places to study aside libraries please? i find the environment quite tense and i am very fidgety and can’t sit down for long periods of time! when im at home i get up every hour or so but it feels like everyone in the library is sat still all day so i feel uncomfortable getting up and doing my 5th walk of the day😭
I feel that as a doctor you shouldn't promote studying for so long without even mentioning the possibility of burning out. I used to study a lot... until I didn't anymore. And it wasn't because I didn't want to, it was because I was burned out and my brain wasn't working anymore as it used to, even though I enjoyed sitting in front of a desk and study all day long. Two years later and I'm still trying to cope with it. Now, as a master's student, I can't study as much as I did before and I do wish I was more careful with it. To people who are following this kind of advices, just be careful, because in the long run it can be contreproductive, as it was for me
Hey! Definitely agree to an extent - it’s not sustainable BUT it’s what I would do on the lead up to my medical school finals every year for a few weeks for short bursts to get me over the finish line. Plus realistically, it is what most med students do because studying in medical school really does require a lot of hours even if you’re studying efficiently. Also, if you watch to the end of the vid I do caveat the title ☺️
Any person studying medicine will dedicate insane hours of studying. That's how our field is. If you wanna survive and become a Healthcare provider, then this is the way. Obviously, ways to cope with the stress would be setting time for exercise, making sure you eat and sleep enough, and make time for something that makes you happy. It's all about balance. We don't have much time to spare.
Well as a med student i can say we dont much have time to not study i know all feilds are important but when you work for a feild that hold people’s lives in your hand you won’t have so much choices and i can confirm almost all med student study similar to this routine
Need suggestions for what boring thing to do in breather breaks right now i can only go for water or do a quick skin care (its not boring but not quick so works). Any other ideas would be appreciated !
But why though? Genuinely studying for 12 hours is excessive. Those breaks, like you said, are not true breaks. It's just meant to appease yourself to ultimately just work more. Everyone, yourself included, should be able to do the things they enjoy, even if that means watching a couple tik-toks. Depriving yourself and dare I say starving yourself of true breaks results in overindulgence and revenge sleep procrastination. These "not studying" Times do not provide the same rejuvenation that taking a real break does. It's the same thing as meditating instead of sleeping even if you're laying in bed, eyes closed, the physical activity is the same but the end result is not the same real rejuvenating rest that sleep provides. This strategy may last a couple days even a week, but the end result is going to be burn out
I mean I agreed up until you started comparing meditation and sleep. Meditation is incredibly restful and low stimulation but agreed, it’s not a substitute for sleep. But I … would still sleep during exam season.. In a world where we are constantly overstimulated, I stand by advising low stimulation break especially during exam season. Overstimulation e.g. from TikTok can be incredibly tiring and not restful at all.

Can also stretch a little
Walk, meditate, breath work, cross words/suduko (idk maybe too intellectual), read fiction, audio book, colouring etc etc
For me, I can study just 50 mins without break at max 😪
u dont need to be doing more than that , 50min studying 10 min break is great , i been doing that for years
But. You should take a break even if you hyperfocus.
