    Let's call this for what it is...one of the most polished and professional sounding computer free live techno performers in the world. The actual production and mixdown of the elements and the song transitions are smooth AF.

    Do you know what surprises me the most? Your enormous ability not to lose concentration at any time. I see Djs that with 3 cdj already make mistakes from time to time with some drop for example. You are handling 4 devices and Db4, and I have not been able to see a remarkable error. My congratulations.

Nowhere seen such a Master Workflow on TH-cam and what’s symphatic about all that is that you seem very Grounded- no arrogance about your creativity and Mastering the Maschines-- just seems like a nice Human who is a King but just want to be a nice human (: (Y) !!

    Incredible set, performance, and setup. I discovered you recently as I am trying to figure out which mixer to get. I am more a producer, not really a DJ, and it is between the xone db4, xone 96, or pioneer v10. Wish the 96 had the db4 effects. Or wish the db4 had more inputs!

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Manish, really appreciate you saying that :)
      As a producer myself I can tell you one thing about the v10 and that is that its effects are very dj-ish instant gratification in your face. It's just the pioneer way. Personally I don't like them.
      The db4 fx are studio grade in quality. More inputs would be lovely. Might be solvable by adding a small summing mixer :). Xone 96 is incredible as well and you could add your own fx chain. Or use a laptop as an fx box.
      Good luck with choosing :)

    • @RealBassPhat
      @RealBassPhat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Davemech Thanks for the additional insight Dave. Yeah, I'm concerned that Pioneer FX will be cheesy and even get dated. I am leaning to db4 b/c while I do have a bunch of mixers (yamaha, zoom livetrak, mackie) I don't really have any external effects units aside from a filterbank and some pedals, not like a full on fx rack or what not. Mentally I can justify the purchase by convincing myself I'm buying an fx unit that happens to be a dj mixer. I can also deal with submixing. In thinking about the 96, while it looks like a beast and is beautiful, I already have production mixers. Long term I may end up where you are -- having both. But I think the db4 is where I'll start. Thank you again for helping add some clarity.

    great set man!!! Also great to see a purely hardware based setup for a techno set...not too many doing that? just wanted to ask with regards to the DB4 fx eg delay can you get it to self oscillate ? is there that much control over each Fx's parameters to create things like drones through self oscillation?

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a wide selection of different delays (check out my video demonstration about the DB4). They will go into self oscillation when the input its loud enough. I use this live as well to create drones out of synth stabs. In this set I took them into self oscillation twice I think.

    • @Depuratumba
      @Depuratumba 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would guess part of the appeal of the DB4 (compared to the OT) it's on it's FX and filters... they're way more expressive to my ears (I say this as an owner of both an OT and a Digitakt)

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OT is a very cool machine, but it has a very different workflow. The DB4 is in essence a mixer and thus very different and not comparable to a groovebox. The DT is limited compared to OT but more immediate, and that's what I love about it.

    • @Davemech

      Haha, it's a live performance mate. I don't have to listen as I know where each of my grooves (all my own creations) are situated and how to manipulate everything. I know all the controls by heart and things are synced with midi. This, in combination with my workflow, renders a headphone useless.

    @dave what is the case you have your mixer and elektron's on? I'm struggling in finding proper cases for my xone 96 and modular synths + digitakt and what you got is close to what would actually work

    Dave, your music motivated me to buy a DT and I enjoy it very much. Now I’m choosing between DB4 and Model 1 mixer. I’m leaning towards the DB4 since it has loopers. Do you have any advice and how would you compare the two? It seems like there are more possibilities on the DB4 with the loopers. You absolutely rock man! Peace, Constantine in Texas

      @Davemech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the kind words Constantine. Great to hear you also enjoy the DT as much as I do :)
      I think in your situation I'd go for a db4. It'd packed with quality fx per channel and per channel loopers. You van also switch the eq section to hp/lp filters so you can mimic some of the model 1 stuff.
      Model 1 is an incredible piece of gear as well. It's a great option but you need to realize that you need to add fx and a looper on top of that of you want to do the same sort of stuff. I might in the future go that route because it's great but it's a lot of extra equipment that you need.
      Hope this helps! Cheers

    Are you running the heat on the master out of the DB4, or are looping back the record out and then back to another channel? Asking as there’s 4 (well, 5 counting mic/aux) channels and only 3 “instruments.”

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here I use Analog heat on the mater out. I use channel 4 as an fx channel where I can switch any of the 3 instruments to via the input matrix. Currently working on a new approach routing. New db4 video is in the pipeline. :)

    Hi Dave. Db4 or 96? Thx

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you're going to do. And the gear you use really :). Best to watch my in depth db4 video (the oldest one) and my xone 96 review. They are so very different so it all really depends on the use case. I prefer db4 because it more or less replaces a laptop in a way :) if you use a laptop 96 might be the better choice if you use a laptop :)

    Any particular reason this is all routed through another mixer to the right?

      @MartsMcfly 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would just be because they have the room PA, mics, and the whole output record (zoom recorder) setup on that mixer

    45 long minutes of techno... After that you need at least 45 days out on a beach somewhere with no other noise than the waves for your brain to reset. Where is good old rock, blues, jazz?

      There's all three for me. Music is so subjective. You don't groove and improvise like this unless it's coming from the soul and you're feeling it.
