Fun facts! Red crabs are known to change gender from male to female, this process is called protandry. It's actually not super rare in sea creatures like fish and crabs. Other examples would be Clownfish, Cleaner Wrasse, Hermit crabs, and Mussels. White cats with blue eyes are most likely to be deaf. Along with cats with different colored eyes. Though they dont seem to match this in the game. Enide was most likely a Predatory cone snail, known to feed on fish and crustaceans, also highly venomous. At least her color scheme matches lol

Sure, if sister's letters stop and you never moved at all and this happens is fine, but the fact that they moved and just SOMEHOW ended up being Enide's neighbor is to jarring for me.
Cool detail about Enide's design, her skirt design is meant to resemble the shell of not just any snail, but a cone snail specifically. Cone snails possess venom hypothesized to be capable of killing several hundred people with one dose. Their beautiful patterning is tragically deceiving to those unfortunate enough to pick one up and get jabbed with their harpoon. Surely she couldn't be evil... surely.. clever design choice overall, though! (Also definitely look up cone snails, they're very beautiful.. when observed from a distance!) (also also, Enide's skirt appears to be modeled after the shell of Conus textile, or the textile cone snail. Her textile is meant to look like a "textile." lol)
Also, Mr. Chace's head has a small pinprick mark in his neck which implies she does actually have a venomous harpoon the same way a real cone snail does, similar to Pincer's claws.
I knew she was a cone snail the moment I saw the shell and her skirt pattern. The hole (which I didn't notice until seeing your comment ) in the neck all but confirms it.
@@ReleasedHollow honestly woulda gone crazy if they showed the harpoon actually coming out. It's actually part of their proboscis/mouth similar to assassin snails iirc, so whatever kind of body horror that would produce would be fantastic.
Damn. Forgot about Tabby until the ending. The fact that she left all those gifts behind means she never even held them with any sentimentality, despite gushing about how she likes to keep her gifts like a kid.
It's likely that the bag with the clown, letter and teddy bear were gifts from Tabby. She took the rest and left this behind for Allie because she kept her promise.
We don't know if she takes them in the normal ending. It's possible she didn't take them because Allie had the key. So she left them behind for Allie to have. This is all just speculation
I think there's still a subtle horror or at least sad element to the normal ending where they get together. Imagine Clawdi mourning her dad and Allie's just there knowing to herself that she couldve helped get justice but said nothing. That's forever looming over them.
Add to it the fact that in that ending allie never learns about her sister,while ignorance can be bliss it also means she lives believing tabi is still out there somewhere.

Clawdi’s lil crab claw pigtails are actually so cute and such a fun lil detail. It’s so amazing how games like this can create such endearing characters no matter the actual size of the cast or the length of the game.
Especially with a topic like transgender, Pincer becoming Clawdi was a real smart nod to them being a Red Crab that does that normally in real life and also the fact his Game Character name was Clawdi too, does make me wonder with the hair though if Clawdi still has retractable claws or if that was just a male thing for them...

I think it is pretty weird Enide would leave the chest in her basement, given how thorough she is with cleaning up the results of her cravings on one hand and how she claims the belongings of her past lovers mean much to her on the other side. So I like to think she probably left it intentionally for Allie to find, probably knowing that Tabby was her sister, as kind of a TWISTED reward for keeping her promise.
Enide leaving Tabby's letter and pic of them there as a twisted gift could definitely be true, knowing she even wrote down Allie's birthday date there. It's like Enide wants her to think that she's always been "keeping an eye" on Allie.
I think Enide is even more twisted than we thought. I think she knew about the little sister. I think she might have even sent the letters until they moved to obscure the time of death. Enide is perversely interested in love and appears to remain attached to her victims. The protagonist was one of the gifts a lover "gave" to her. Another possibility is that another predator got her, leaving her empty house behind. It's common with predatory snails. The unchanged calendar is certainly suspicious.
I'm picturing this whole story playing out with the real animals. Small crab and kitten fight while a snail chews the head off an adult crab. Kitten then arches back at snail as it approaches menacingly.
jokes aside, if people are right about enide being a cone snail, maybe she poisoned him first then cut his head off? there is a hole in the side of his neck in the fridge and she does have VERY long nails and they are shortly later emphasized
The only thing I think was weird was Allie is scared stiff and her dad’s just like haha I cooked well! Enide I guess just gathered that Allie knew, but dang, dad, at least throw a “you alright there, sport?” So Allie could have a beat and make an excuse.
I thought it was gonna be like since she found out she could tell her dad and the bad ending was the next date was with the dad and Allie couldn’t convince him not to go or something. Especially since they know Tabby’s baggage and might not like the dad that much

All this indie games are just "someone eats people" at this point, they are somehow still entertaining for their different art styles and storytelling, even for how over used the trope is
Do you know how hard it is to write horror games? Especially when everything you can think of is already been used. A murderer is simply the most convenient plot there is, easy and effective. You should focus on storytelling and the character's mental state. My reaction to characters dying in horror games can range from "I saw that coming from a mile away" to "I'm gonna have a hard time falling asleep after this".

Honestly it is hard to make a horror game that would scare you. Besides jump scares which are really easy to make, unlike creating tension, there isn't much you can do to make player scared. I think it's more of a "horror for protagonist" rather than "horror for player" because player knows it's game and player knows he's safe

I think he did a visual novel that framed itself like "your friend is a cannibal, and you're invited to dinner," only to reveal he isn't and was just messing with you.

Cat Diary is a manga by Junji Ito that reads like that. Everyone is drawn to look like they belong in a horror story but it's just a cute autobiographical slice of life story about pet cats.
This game is SO CUTE. The artstyle and simple, but sincere characters make it very easy to ignore the heavy smell of iron coming from the accursed meat fridge.

I lowkey wish there was just a little bit more to this story. It feels like there's no closure, especially with the true end. I can think of a handful of reasons like that it was meant to simulate how in life we don't always see how things end, or the author might've left it open ending for a chapter 2 but still. I wanted to see the post incident tension and know the dad's reaction to the true end! Seeing that her and Clawdi get together was super cute tho.
@yeehaw7896 Girls can call their (non-romantic) girlfriends "babes" though. If they were dating I think they would be holding hands in the ending picture. I think it can be interprered either way but I prefer the idea that they aren't romantically involved precisely because of the implications of Allie knowing who killed her love interest's father and never told it
I like the subtle angsty Pincer to friendly Clawdi transition toward the end. But that last love letter right at the end was like an uppercut to the gut from the Hulk, even if I was halfway expecting it :(

I think Enide is a Cone snail, specifically the Textile cone snail. The pattern on her skirt is near Identical to the pattern on a Textile cone snails shell.
I like the spin on the typical "bully with a crush" trope. Pincer and Allie *do* end up together, but not in the usual way. I also like that Manly doesn't draw attention to it. Clawdi is just Clawdi, plain and simple.

I was excited to see Pincer and Allie make up after what happened the day before, but it was kinda sad that we only got to to see it for as short of a time as we did. I mean It is cool to see that she's just cool with Clawdi in the future, but I was kinda hoping we'd get to see their relationship rebuild. Especially after Allie stops talking to Enide and (it seems) he basically replaces her as her closest friend.

@@bradleymoore2797Honestly characters with health issues in horror games could be very fun, a heart disease that requires constant monitoring and of your heart rate gets to high an implant will make a loud alert, alerting the monster. So, you have to find a way to stay calm and hide from the monster.
IDK sounds pretty believable to me? Especially since the kid seems to be more tomboyish and rough-and-tumble rather than prim and proper, it comes off as something she'd like rather than something she'd find offensive.
Enide is definitely a cone snail. She has her little shell on her waist band and the patterns, stripes and colors match the general profile. It's very cylindrical where as assassin snails are more spirally and boring, usually just shades of brown and black. Cone snails also eat whatever they can too, not just other snails. Don't trust cone snails.
damn, that secret ending really got me, especially with that final piece of character art. And it was over so quickly too it I had to rewind a bit to confirm what I just saw.
Another great game from this developer. We may have an easy time predicting what's going to happen after so many wicked neighbors, but it's done well with likable characters. The true ending is appropriately tragic too.
I think Enide actually liked Allie. Not like a love interest or anything, but like watching over a kid that you can’t help but look out for. I don’t think she ever intended to hurt her, even if it meant she might rat her out. 33:54 She’s clearly a sociopath but it seems like she formed a genuine connection with Allie. Why else would she just let her go, even after blatantly showing off a murder. The reason Enide laughed is probably because she figured this was the end, and was surprised by the prospect of Allie even considering keeping the promise. Ende didn’t even intend to stop her at that moment. You know what I think? I think Enide knew Allie was Tabby’s sister the whole time. Maybe it started off out of curiosity, exhilaration, or remorse but she intentionally made a connection with Allie. I think throughout that time, she genuinely grew to like Allie unlike all the connections she made before. Ende clearly wants a connection, given that she was jealous of Alli possessing the ability to love, and keeps all the gifts from past lovers, even after killing them. It seems strange that she would just leave those precious gifts behind. What if she left them for Allie? There’s no way Ende didn’t know Allie had the key. Perhaps, Ende wanted Alle to know the whole time? Either because she truly found love in either Alle or tabby, she wanted Alle to know what happened to her sister. Maybe it was some sociopathic form of guilt. If you think about it like that, it would make sense why she so nonchalantly showed Elle the head. Ende wanted to be found out! Alle keeping the secret is probably exactly opposite of what Ende wanted. Which is again, why she laughed. Ende, this sociopath, liked Alle so much that she even seriously considered of getting Alle a cake for her birthday. Did she want to make up with a “friend?” Regardless, she clearly thought against it. In short, I think Alle was never in danger because Ende, who was aware she is Tabby’s sister, wanted her to know in the first place.

Yeah, she's a sociopath, but she also just sounds like someone who never have form a strong connection but want to. She dates many people mostly because she couldn't ever feels strongly about any of them from heart, and Alli seems to be the first she ever makes a genuine connection with. Of course, had she wasn't a sociopath, Enide would just realized and accepted that dating maybe just isn't her style of making connection. But alas, she thinks she must eat them instead.
Weird that a big deal was made about her hearing aid at the start and then nothing ever happened with it. Like, maybe the battery goes dead while she is evading Enide. Or Enide takes it from her. Just...something?
I thought the same at first, but I also think it's sometimes cool to just have it there normally, like real life! No need to have a game mechanic centered around something like having green eyes, if that makes sense

@@dariius7291the game made you pay attention to it in the prologue and in the first encounter with the crab child, so it did look like a Checkov's gun. If a character had glasses, no one would care. If a short game took time *twice* to show how finicky the glasses are or how they keep falling off the face, people would start assuming that was a setup for a payoff later on.
Wait, did Allie never tell Clawdi what happened to her dad? Her childhood friend and GIRLFRIEND, and she never revealed that she knew who murdered her dad, for three years? Damn. The game doesn't draw much attention to it, but that's incredibly fucked up. Like I know Ally was afraid for her life, but to start dating someone while lying about something so massive to them... I don't know how you'd be able to look Clawdi in the eye after that, much less maintain relationship with her. I think their relationship is likely doomed either ending. The way I see it: they either breakup due to the strain on Allie from having to keep that secret, or due to the inevitable fallout from the secret finally coming out, perhaps in the aftermath of the true ending.
Man, i love games like this. It may have lasted for less than an hour, yet it still manages to leave you with that feeling. I dont need to explain what “that feeling” is. Everyone knows it.
Enide's a cone snail, for anyone that's wondering! She's established to be a snail, lives in a sandy, tropical location (likely with a beach nearby), her shell (lower half) is patterned near-identically like that of the textile cone (Conus textile), and she's even carrying around a mini cone snail shell (purse?) at her side. Some other fun details - her hair bun also resemble a snail's shell, she's wearing a hair clip (in the true ending's photo) that looks suspiciously like a fork, and Mr. Chace's neck had a puncture wound in it (cone snails hunt using a venomous, harpoon-like radula tooth that's located within their proboscis, which quickly paralyzes their prey before they're consumed alive). On a related note: be wary if you find any colorful, cone-shaped shells on the beach, there may very well be a still-living cone snail in them, and people have died from their stings!
26:14 ok saying the sink is wet and calling Enide evil for it made me laugh way more than I think anyone else would have lmao (my mom HATES her kitchen sink being used unless it is for cooking, and if it DOES get used, wants it to be wiped up dry so it doesn't leave water stains) ... yet almost everyone that comes to the house uses the sink for convenience and doesn't wipe it up after. (so hearing the sink being wet being an evil thing makes me laugh, calling everyone that uses the kitchen sink and not cleaning it up evil... haha)
Gonna be that guy and point out the continuity error: It's way too much of a coincidence for Tabby and Enide to know each other. Tabby left her original father's house maybe a few years before the beginning of the game; she kept sending letters to Allie until they moved, and after that, there were no more letters. The game mentions Allie and her father moved several times before settling at the coastside house. It is kind of implied the reason Tabby stopped writing letters to Allie was that she was unable to track down Allie's new addresses, but it may had as well been that Tabby got eaten. Casually becoming neighbors with your runaway sister's ex-and-murderer after moving so many times is suspiciously specific, and it looks more like a narrative decision taken retroactively to have a gut wrenching true ending. There is a possibility the "new people" Tabby's letters mentioned included Enide, and, since Tabby probably delivered the letters by herself in person, it could be that the beach and her original home are very close, but it sounds like a stretch. That said, it could be fixed through some better foreshadowing. Making Enide move in to the beachside house after Allie and her father moved there could imply she was trying to pursuit Allie's family, either because deep down she felt guilty about Tabby (kind of implied why she acts like a mother figure with Allie), even if unlikely due to her being a psychopath, or because she wanted to prey on Allie's father or even Allie herself, for some reason. Maybe Tabby was just the most delicious?

There's nothing that implies Tabby stopped sending letters because she was eaten, she might have died a bit after the letters stopped reaching them. If they only moved once the timing would have to be way too convenient and exact.
Considering that Tabby went through seemingly a long time being together with Enide, I kinda think she might actually have had feelings for Tabby, until her hunger won; after eating her, she started preying on people more quickly, until she realized they didn't satisfy her, and wanted to go back to being with Tabby. The closest thing? Being with her sister. She didn't kill Allie even after she found out her secret, you can interpret that as her just being confident in intimidating Allie properly, but you can also presume that she cared for Allie somewhat, enough not to take the easy way out. I think it was part of her plan all along.
You know, maybe the reason Allie and her father move so much is because her father is tracking Tabby down. He looked sad about her leaving so maybe he was trying to find her and her letters helped him locate her. That's why they moved where Enide Is...because that's the last place she went. But the hole in that story is that Tabby stopped writing letters years before they moved to that place. But maybe the dad was slow to find her traces so it took a few years to get there or maybe Tabby died recently and she just stopped writing for some reason
I'm placing my bets now. It's a Mad Father scenario. The "gifts" are the previous victims, preserved as her precious collectables. Damn, not quite. Just the classic cannable story.
I kind of have a feeling than Enide knew she was Tabby’s sister and that she had the key to the chest. I think Enide actually did love the MC in a way, which is probably why the mc isn’t dead. (She even thinks about giving a cake to the MC, possibly as a way to make up 😅) Perhaps she wanted to give the MC closure.
Imagine being the owner of the first house (before Tabby died) and just getting random letters from a girl and you can’t even write back saying you don’t know her because there’s no other address

I swear this game dev is everywhere and I love it! Arcade kittens artstyle is so unique I didn't even need to rwad the description to know who made the game. This one's in my top favorites, thank you for playing manly!
"Lily's Well" does exactly that with a trash can in the bathroom, but only after you've done a few of the bad endings first. Manly did a wonderful double take when he saw it. It's about an hour into his video, I think.
Some character brooding over bad stuff being "like my soul" but by the end of the game you realize theyre the most boring, innocent character. Just being an edgy shit for no reason
From verbal context alone enide said she hates being rushed. Tabby running to her and forcing her to take her in and be her lover probably caused enide to panic and eat her on a flight by fright response since it was so sudden. Enide going out of her way to see her little sister in law could also be about her love talk. She missed the connection she had and so she decided to play big sister in hopes of realizing something she doesnt really understand since she is 'childish'. My biggest worry is the cake. Did she feed allie her own sister?!? I hate that the game has such a huge build up and then suddenly forced ending with zero closure.
@@chantolove enide escaped again with murder, the girl can tell her father her sister was murdered now(assuming that would be a major plot point towards an ending) enide would 200% kill pincer giving what we read but plot armor allowed clawdi to become a thing. There was no kill enide ending. If finding out tabby is dead and mc might get married is considered 'closure' we have different ideas about what we think the player should have been informed about.

@@lisagonzalez1371 Other kids are mentioned, but not named. The handheld game character was named Clawdi, though, and playing female game characters can (though isn't always) a sign of being trans. Dysphoria over puberty changes could also go a long way to explain Pincer's attitude. I was an angry kid until I realized why mirrors upset me so much. (And yes, I also nearly exclusively played female characters when given a chance.)
after some googling, i'm pretty confident in saying that Enide is a textile cone snail! they have that neat scaled pattern and like all cone snails they have a barb that pokes out of the end of their shell that resembles her purse. they're one of the more venomous cone snails, apparently.

Each eye-stalk can move independently and can be re-grown if lost. The eye-stalks are also used for smell. Lower on the slug’s face are two smaller tentacles for feeling and tasting." So two are what you'd probably call eye stalks but the other two are for other purposes.
It's really neat to see a horror game of this style where the protag genuinely DOES get away completely safe after promising not to tell when caught, and seeing what comes after that. I feel like the vast majority would still have the protag tracked down, just make it a short unsatisfying ending in a sea of ones involving fighting back or losing, or not think to include it at all.
Wasn't really a fan of this one. It just... didn't really have that much of a real horror element to it? We've seen the premise a lot, and this one is fairly bare bones outside of the DDR minigames.
I'll agree. It was alright for a story but I feel it should have just been that. A story. There was no real horror aspect to it for the player character. The horror comes from knowing your neighbor is a murderous predator and not being able to do or say anything about it as well as the True Ending's reveal. The problem is playing this doesn't really add much. I feel if the game was longer and had a bit more interactivity to it it would have been more effective.
@@attaug Agreed. It sucks because the interactive element of gaming could add a lot. As is, it's just two hiding events and then more dialogue. There's no chase sequence, no otherworldly events, no expanding on Enide's actions, not even the vague illusion of being able to influence the story with choices. The biggest choice is finding the key, which only really adds a tacked on, "BTW, Enide killed Tabby!" Something that felt hollow to me because... why would Enide leave her chest of memories when moving?

Honesty I think the game was pretty neat in term of visuals and story for me but not as much as gameplay (which they do mention it on the game page that it's more a VN than a RPG) . I don't know why a fuss needs to be made about it. Certain animals can completely change sex based on some environmental ques. Fully functional reproductive system. This isn't new. Either is certain animals mimicking the opposite sex to be let into a harem they can then make use of behind the alpha males back.
The ending is like on a whole another level of psychological torture to me. Imagine having to live with the fact that your sister's killer was someone who seemed so trustworthy and kind. And also the fact that they got away with their actions because you promised you wouldn't expose them. Oh, and you're ALSO dating the kid of one of her victims and only you know what happened to their parent. Christ.
i loved this so much. also the subtle and bitter karma of allie finding out what happened with tabby after keeping quiet with clawdi’s dad… love the foreshadowing and storytelling of this dev.
I love indie games like this. Ones with a cute artstyle, and great storytelling. I really like this game, Fia's Night Out, Ara and the Empty Universe, Our way down, games like that. And that was an unfortunate true ending...
This game needs a sequel! Where Allie goes after Enide, heck bring Pincer along as well. You track her down from the various missing peoples cases. And it would have 4 endings The lawful ending where you get her jailed for all she has done. The unlawful ending where that bat comes in useful, The neutral bad ending where she escapes and is some where out there. And the bad ending, you and Pincer are captured, with the last screen being a new missing poster is seen on a wall of other posters in a collection.

It could be possible after Enice killed and ate Tabby, she found out about her family. Maybe those letters Allie was getting were not from Tabby but Enice.Those letters had no return address. And where they moved, she followed.

The art IS BEAUTIFUL IN THIS GAME! The character designs, the poses, the world building concepts, the abilities, it' all amazing! Oh waht I would pay for a longer RPG/story game in an 8+ hour gameplay format with level of epicness! I am going to have to get this!
Yeah I had a feeling what was gonna be revealed in the true ending. Definitely sad but I must say the creator did a great job creating these characters and making them all interesting enough to connect to you in such a short amount of time. And, uh spoiler: Kudos to the whole crab gender changing deal. Mixing up how boys can act out during puberty with how crabs can change gender was cool and allowed his (at the time) bullying to become a red herring. Makes me curious if all that acting out was due to her worrying she wasn't going to change due to the hair growth.
I love the art style but I'm kinda sad at how unintuitive the animal aspects are to their design... Allie and her family are mammals, so it makes sense they still have hair and bare skin, (plus cat people like that are VERY common designs, so im not surprised) but the rest...? At first I thought Enide was meant to be a bird because of the skirt pattern, sharp nail (like a talon), and general sharp features. Like a hawk or something. Love the casual inclusion of Allie using a hearing aid though. It's nice to see.
The skirt pattern is meant to resemble the shell of the textile cone snail, but I get it. I would have liked if they had a little bit more features of the animals they're meant to be. And the noses on the crab people kept throwing me off.
@@siegwardinspirit First time I saw her I thought she was some kind of an owl due to the patterning on her skirt. Skirt also looked like scales or feathers. Pincer/Clawdi didn't look anything like a crab and felt kind of out of left field that he could just transform his hands into claws. There is a bit of a disconnect when you see cat-people basically looking like a human and cat hybrid (more human than anthropomorphic) and then the other species look like completely normal humans.

Red crabs are known to change gender from male to female, this process is called protandry. It's actually not super rare in sea creatures like fish and crabs. Other examples would be Clownfish, Cleaner Wrasse, Hermit crabs, and Mussels.
White cats with blue eyes are most likely to be deaf. Along with cats with different colored eyes. Though they dont seem to match this in the game.
Enide was most likely a Predatory cone snail, known to feed on fish and crustaceans, also highly venomous. At least her color scheme matches lol

Cool detail about Enide's design, her skirt design is meant to resemble the shell of not just any snail, but a cone snail specifically. Cone snails possess venom hypothesized to be capable of killing several hundred people with one dose. Their beautiful patterning is tragically deceiving to those unfortunate enough to pick one up and get jabbed with their harpoon. Surely she couldn't be evil... surely.. clever design choice overall, though! (Also definitely look up cone snails, they're very beautiful.. when observed from a distance!) (also also, Enide's skirt appears to be modeled after the shell of Conus textile, or the textile cone snail. Her textile is meant to look like a "textile." lol)
Also, Mr. Chace's head has a small pinprick mark in his neck which implies she does actually have a venomous harpoon the same way a real cone snail does, similar to Pincer's claws.
I knew she was a cone snail the moment I saw the shell and her skirt pattern. The hole (which I didn't notice until seeing your comment ) in the neck all but confirms it.

Damn. Forgot about Tabby until the ending. The fact that she left all those gifts behind means she never even held them with any sentimentality, despite gushing about how she likes to keep her gifts like a kid.
It's likely that the bag with the clown, letter and teddy bear were gifts from Tabby. She took the rest and left this behind for Allie because she kept her promise.
We don't know if she takes them in the normal ending. It's possible she didn't take them because Allie had the key. So she left them behind for Allie to have. This is all just speculation

Clawdi’s lil crab claw pigtails are actually so cute and such a fun lil detail. It’s so amazing how games like this can create such endearing characters no matter the actual size of the cast or the length of the game.
Especially with a topic like transgender, Pincer becoming Clawdi was a real smart nod to them being a Red Crab that does that normally in real life and also the fact his Game Character name was Clawdi too, does make me wonder with the hair though if Clawdi still has retractable claws or if that was just a male thing for them...

I think it is pretty weird Enide would leave the chest in her basement, given how thorough she is with cleaning up the results of her cravings on one hand and how she claims the belongings of her past lovers mean much to her on the other side. So I like to think she probably left it intentionally for Allie to find, probably knowing that Tabby was her sister, as kind of a TWISTED reward for keeping her promise.
Enide leaving Tabby's letter and pic of them there as a twisted gift could definitely be true, knowing she even wrote down Allie's birthday date there. It's like Enide wants her to think that she's always been "keeping an eye" on Allie.
Ooh maybe. I thought it was just that she was thinking "I lost the key and can't open it anyway, no point bringing it along."
I think Enide is even more twisted than we thought. I think she knew about the little sister. I think she might have even sent the letters until they moved to obscure the time of death.
Enide is perversely interested in love and appears to remain attached to her victims. The protagonist was one of the gifts a lover "gave" to her.
Another possibility is that another predator got her, leaving her empty house behind. It's common with predatory snails.
The unchanged calendar is certainly suspicious.
I'm picturing this whole story playing out with the real animals. Small crab and kitten fight while a snail chews the head off an adult crab. Kitten then arches back at snail as it approaches menacingly.

Do you know how hard it is to write horror games? Especially when everything you can think of is already been used. A murderer is simply the most convenient plot there is, easy and effective.
You should focus on storytelling and the character's mental state. My reaction to characters dying in horror games can range from "I saw that coming from a mile away" to "I'm gonna have a hard time falling asleep after this".

Honestly it is hard to make a horror game that would scare you. Besides jump scares which are really easy to make, unlike creating tension, there isn't much you can do to make player scared. I think it's more of a "horror for protagonist" rather than "horror for player" because player knows it's game and player knows he's safe

I can think of a handful of reasons like that it was meant to simulate how in life we don't always see how things end, or the author might've left it open ending for a chapter 2 but still. I wanted to see the post incident tension and know the dad's reaction to the true end! Seeing that her and Clawdi get together was super cute tho.

Enide is definitely a cone snail. She has her little shell on her waist band and the patterns, stripes and colors match the general profile. It's very cylindrical where as assassin snails are more spirally and boring, usually just shades of brown and black. Cone snails also eat whatever they can too, not just other snails.

Another great game from this developer. We may have an easy time predicting what's going to happen after so many wicked neighbors, but it's done well with likable characters. The true ending is appropriately tragic too.
I think Enide actually liked Allie. Not like a love interest or anything, but like watching over a kid that you can’t help but look out for. I don’t think she ever intended to hurt her, even if it meant she might rat her out.
33:54 She’s clearly a sociopath but it seems like she formed a genuine connection with Allie. Why else would she just let her go, even after blatantly showing off a murder. The reason Enide laughed is probably because she figured this was the end, and was surprised by the prospect of Allie even considering keeping the promise. Ende didn’t even intend to stop her at that moment.
You know what I think? I think Enide knew Allie was Tabby’s sister the whole time. Maybe it started off out of curiosity, exhilaration, or remorse but she intentionally made a connection with Allie. I think throughout that time, she genuinely grew to like Allie unlike all the connections she made before.
Ende clearly wants a connection, given that she was jealous of Alli possessing the ability to love, and keeps all the gifts from past lovers, even after killing them. It seems strange that she would just leave those precious gifts behind. What if she left them for Allie? There’s no way Ende didn’t know Allie had the key.
Perhaps, Ende wanted Alle to know the whole time? Either because she truly found love in either Alle or tabby, she wanted Alle to know what happened to her sister. Maybe it was some sociopathic form of guilt. If you think about it like that, it would make sense why she so nonchalantly showed Elle the head. Ende wanted to be found out! Alle keeping the secret is probably exactly opposite of what Ende wanted. Which is again, why she laughed.
Ende, this sociopath, liked Alle so much that she even seriously considered of getting Alle a cake for her birthday. Did she want to make up with a “friend?” Regardless, she clearly thought against it.
In short, I think Alle was never in danger because Ende, who was aware she is Tabby’s sister, wanted her to know in the first place.
I think so too. The "cake?" part spoke a lot. Seems she loves Allie more with her "heart" than her "stomach" unlike anyone else. Seems its a first she cares and wishes well for somebody, so she's awkward about it
Yeah, she's a sociopath, but she also just sounds like someone who never have form a strong connection but want to. She dates many people mostly because she couldn't ever feels strongly about any of them from heart, and Alli seems to be the first she ever makes a genuine connection with. Of course, had she wasn't a sociopath, Enide would just realized and accepted that dating maybe just isn't her style of making connection. But alas, she thinks she must eat them instead.
Weird that a big deal was made about her hearing aid at the start and then nothing ever happened with it. Like, maybe the battery goes dead while she is evading Enide. Or Enide takes it from her. Just...something?
She was probably arguing with her dad about being lesbian or something that would have hinted to her encountering snail lady.
I thought the same at first, but I also think it's sometimes cool to just have it there normally, like real life! No need to have a game mechanic centered around something like having green eyes, if that makes sense

If a character had glasses, no one would care.
If a short game took time *twice* to show how finicky the glasses are or how they keep falling off the face, people would start assuming that was a setup for a payoff later on.
Wait, did Allie never tell Clawdi what happened to her dad? Her childhood friend and GIRLFRIEND, and she never revealed that she knew who murdered her dad, for three years? Damn. The game doesn't draw much attention to it, but that's incredibly fucked up. Like I know Ally was afraid for her life, but to start dating someone while lying about something so massive to them... I don't know how you'd be able to look Clawdi in the eye after that, much less maintain relationship with her. I think their relationship is likely doomed either ending. The way I see it: they either breakup due to the strain on Allie from having to keep that secret, or due to the inevitable fallout from the secret finally coming out, perhaps in the aftermath of the true ending.
Yeah. Though she may never tell her since her father's killer got away with it. There is no justice to be gained at this point.

Enide's a cone snail, for anyone that's wondering! She's established to be a snail, lives in a sandy, tropical location (likely with a beach nearby), her shell (lower half) is patterned near-identically like that of the textile cone (Conus textile), and she's even carrying around a mini cone snail shell (purse?) at her side. Some other fun details - her hair bun also resemble a snail's shell, she's wearing a hair clip (in the true ending's photo) that looks suspiciously like a fork, and Mr. Chace's neck had a puncture wound in it (cone snails hunt using a venomous, harpoon-like radula tooth that's located within their proboscis, which quickly paralyzes their prey before they're consumed alive).
On a related note: be wary if you find any colorful, cone-shaped shells on the beach, there may very well be a still-living cone snail in them, and people have died from their stings!

26:14 ok saying the sink is wet and calling Enide evil for it made me laugh way more than I think anyone else would have lmao (my mom HATES her kitchen sink being used unless it is for cooking, and if it DOES get used, wants it to be wiped up dry so it doesn't leave water stains)
... yet almost everyone that comes to the house uses the sink for convenience and doesn't wipe it up after. (so hearing the sink being wet being an evil thing makes me laugh, calling everyone that uses the kitchen sink and not cleaning it up evil... haha)

Gonna be that guy and point out the continuity error:
It's way too much of a coincidence for Tabby and Enide to know each other. Tabby left her original father's house maybe a few years before the beginning of the game; she kept sending letters to Allie until they moved, and after that, there were no more letters. The game mentions Allie and her father moved several times before settling at the coastside house. It is kind of implied the reason Tabby stopped writing letters to Allie was that she was unable to track down Allie's new addresses, but it may had as well been that Tabby got eaten. Casually becoming neighbors with your runaway sister's ex-and-murderer after moving so many times is suspiciously specific, and it looks more like a narrative decision taken retroactively to have a gut wrenching true ending. There is a possibility the "new people" Tabby's letters mentioned included Enide, and, since Tabby probably delivered the letters by herself in person, it could be that the beach and her original home are very close, but it sounds like a stretch.
That said, it could be fixed through some better foreshadowing. Making Enide move in to the beachside house after Allie and her father moved there could imply she was trying to pursuit Allie's family, either because deep down she felt guilty about Tabby (kind of implied why she acts like a mother figure with Allie), even if unlikely due to her being a psychopath, or because she wanted to prey on Allie's father or even Allie herself, for some reason. Maybe Tabby was just the most delicious?
Yeah, it was weird since they didnt need to add the "we moved multiple times" part, but it kinda undermines Enide being the killer and conveniently right across the street. I guess the detail was carelessly added in when making the prologue, and the ending + big "twist" were written way earlier.
@@trustytrest I think they were made to move repeatedly to obfuscate the timing. There's nothing that implies Tabby stopped sending letters because she was eaten, she might have died a bit after the letters stopped reaching them.
If they only moved once the timing would have to be way too convenient and exact.
Considering that Tabby went through seemingly a long time being together with Enide, I kinda think she might actually have had feelings for Tabby, until her hunger won; after eating her, she started preying on people more quickly, until she realized they didn't satisfy her, and wanted to go back to being with Tabby. The closest thing? Being with her sister.
She didn't kill Allie even after she found out her secret, you can interpret that as her just being confident in intimidating Allie properly, but you can also presume that she cared for Allie somewhat, enough not to take the easy way out.
I think it was part of her plan all along.
You know, maybe the reason Allie and her father move so much is because her father is tracking Tabby down. He looked sad about her leaving so maybe he was trying to find her and her letters helped him locate her. That's why they moved where Enide Is...because that's the last place she went. But the hole in that story is that Tabby stopped writing letters years before they moved to that place. But maybe the dad was slow to find her traces so it took a few years to get there or maybe Tabby died recently and she just stopped writing for some reason
I'm placing my bets now. It's a Mad Father scenario. The "gifts" are the previous victims, preserved as her precious collectables.

I kind of have a feeling than Enide knew she was Tabby’s sister and that she had the key to the chest. I think Enide actually did love the MC in a way, which is probably why the mc isn’t dead. (She even thinks about giving a cake to the MC, possibly as a way to make up 😅) Perhaps she wanted to give the MC closure.

From verbal context alone enide said she hates being rushed. Tabby running to her and forcing her to take her in and be her lover probably caused enide to panic and eat her on a flight by fright response since it was so sudden. Enide going out of her way to see her little sister in law could also be about her love talk. She missed the connection she had and so she decided to play big sister in hopes of realizing something she doesnt really understand since she is 'childish'. My biggest worry is the cake. Did she feed allie her own sister?!? I hate that the game has such a huge build up and then suddenly forced ending with zero closure.

There was no kill enide ending. If finding out tabby is dead and mc might get married is considered 'closure' we have different ideas about what we think the player should have been informed about.

@@lisagonzalez1371 Other kids are mentioned, but not named. The handheld game character was named Clawdi, though, and playing female game characters can (though isn't always) a sign of being trans. Dysphoria over puberty changes could also go a long way to explain Pincer's attitude.
I was an angry kid until I realized why mirrors upset me so much. (And yes, I also nearly exclusively played female characters when given a chance.)

after some googling, i'm pretty confident in saying that Enide is a textile cone snail! they have that neat scaled pattern and like all cone snails they have a barb that pokes out of the end of their shell that resembles her purse. they're one of the more venomous cone snails, apparently.

So two are what you'd probably call eye stalks but the other two are for other purposes.
It's really neat to see a horror game of this style where the protag genuinely DOES get away completely safe after promising not to tell when caught, and seeing what comes after that. I feel like the vast majority would still have the protag tracked down, just make it a short unsatisfying ending in a sea of ones involving fighting back or losing, or not think to include it at all.

Wasn't really a fan of this one. It just... didn't really have that much of a real horror element to it? We've seen the premise a lot, and this one is fairly bare bones outside of the DDR minigames.
I'll agree. It was alright for a story but I feel it should have just been that. A story. There was no real horror aspect to it for the player character. The horror comes from knowing your neighbor is a murderous predator and not being able to do or say anything about it as well as the True Ending's reveal. The problem is playing this doesn't really add much. I feel if the game was longer and had a bit more interactivity to it it would have been more effective.
@@attaug Agreed. It sucks because the interactive element of gaming could add a lot. As is, it's just two hiding events and then more dialogue. There's no chase sequence, no otherworldly events, no expanding on Enide's actions, not even the vague illusion of being able to influence the story with choices. The biggest choice is finding the key, which only really adds a tacked on, "BTW, Enide killed Tabby!" Something that felt hollow to me because... why would Enide leave her chest of memories when moving?

Honesty I think the game was pretty neat in term of visuals and story for me but not as much as gameplay (which they do mention it on the game page that it's more a VN than a RPG) . I think the lack of closure for me add a charm to it, a realistic sad charm ^^' . It makes you wonder what actions will Allie do now ...
Manly is my comfort youtuber at this point. Let's Plays are nostalgic, and the running gags never get old to me.

The ending is like on a whole another level of psychological torture to me. Imagine having to live with the fact that your sister's killer was someone who seemed so trustworthy and kind. And also the fact that they got away with their actions because you promised you wouldn't expose them. Oh, and you're ALSO dating the kid of one of her victims and only you know what happened to their parent. Christ.

I love indie games like this. Ones with a cute artstyle, and great storytelling. I really like this game, Fia's Night Out, Ara and the Empty Universe, Our way down, games like that.

This game needs a sequel! Where Allie goes after Enide, heck bring Pincer along as well. You track her down from the various missing peoples cases. And it would have 4 endings
The lawful ending where you get her jailed for all she has done.
The unlawful ending where that bat comes in useful,
The neutral bad ending where she escapes and is some where out there.
And the bad ending, you and Pincer are captured, with the last screen being a new missing poster is seen on a wall of other posters in a collection.

It could be possible after Enice killed and ate Tabby, she found out about her family. Maybe those letters Allie was getting were not from Tabby but Enice.Those letters had no return address. And where they moved, she followed.

The art IS BEAUTIFUL IN THIS GAME! The character designs, the poses, the world building concepts, the abilities, it' all amazing! Oh waht I would pay for a longer RPG/story game in an 8+ hour gameplay format with level of epicness! I am going to have to get this!
Yeah I had a feeling what was gonna be revealed in the true ending. Definitely sad but I must say the creator did a great job creating these characters and making them all interesting enough to connect to you in such a short amount of time. And, uh spoiler:
Kudos to the whole crab gender changing deal. Mixing up how boys can act out during puberty with how crabs can change gender was cool and allowed his (at the time) bullying to become a red herring. Makes me curious if all that acting out was due to her worrying she wasn't going to change due to the hair growth.
God I love those scared and terrified faces, especially after she was caught off guard and get plot-twisted by the woman...

I love the art style but I'm kinda sad at how unintuitive the animal aspects are to their design... Allie and her family are mammals, so it makes sense they still have hair and bare skin, (plus cat people like that are VERY common designs, so im not surprised) but the rest...? At first I thought Enide was meant to be a bird because of the skirt pattern, sharp nail (like a talon), and general sharp features. Like a hawk or something.
Love the casual inclusion of Allie using a hearing aid though. It's nice to see.

The skirt pattern is meant to resemble the shell of the textile cone snail, but I get it. I would have liked if they had a little bit more features of the animals they're meant to be. And the noses on the crab people kept throwing me off.
@@siegwardinspirit First time I saw her I thought she was some kind of an owl due to the patterning on her skirt. Skirt also looked like scales or feathers. Pincer/Clawdi didn't look anything like a crab and felt kind of out of left field that he could just transform his hands into claws. There is a bit of a disconnect when you see cat-people basically looking like a human and cat hybrid (more human than anthropomorphic) and then the other species look like completely normal humans.
