I really appreciate how they don’t force a redemption on the abusive mother. So many things are like “all you need is loooove”, and ignore the realities of abusive family members. In this one, the mom is an unforgivable, abusive piece of shit and dies! It’s nice to see that for once! And it’s also nice that the kid still tried anyway because that IS what a kid would do for someone so nice! I love this one!

Yeah, that's a BIG red flag.
I knew it was coming with "Mom" being such a user, but that dialogue still made me angry: Ryo, like bio kids, never asked for her to be his mom and parents aren't owed anything for fulfilling their parental obligations.
I love that the dad isn't even angry. He's just concerned for his son and wants to ensure he's safe. I like that.

Yeah...The thing that intrigues me though is how the heck was the crow able to turn back to being human by eating a piece of the scarecrow boy's hay?...I wonder if it's possible that maybe the Witch is actually possibly a sister to the scarecrow boy's dad?...
I haven't seen anyone point this out yet, but when Ryo disobeyed the witch, she took away his legs.
Ryo's dad also has no legs...
Also it was never explained exactly how the dad learned magic, or how he knows the witch's weakness is scarecrows.
Methinks the witch may have "adopted" more children than just Ryo.

That’s actually what I was thinking. Like a lot of things tied to him, so I was surprised when it showed that he wasn’t the Witches son. Won’t lie, kinda wished we would’ve got more stuff on him because he seems rather interesting too me 🤔
The dad also had that scar on his face. Probably from the witch's claws. And knows how to make potions which nobody else seems to know how to do. I think your guess makes a lot of sense, but I also wonder about it cause he is clearly older than Ingram, and the witch only mentioned about having one child, and there's no evidence of the dad ever being in her mansion. The question also would be about how Ingram came into existence, and if the dad came into existence the same way or if he was as stupid as Ryo when young to be adopted.
I actually thought it would be possible that Ryo's dad used to be Venna's husband and Ingram's father. This would make Ryo and Ingram bio siblings, explaining why the curse could be lifted.

I love how in the second ending, the dad's first reaction isn't 'oh hey, I'll just sew him up since he's still in his scarecrow form' it's 'I'm going to kill everything on earth by plunging us into eternal night so my son doesn't die lmao'

I like to think that in the True End, after patching up Ingram, the dad was just like "Whelp guess I've got two sons now! Neat!"

I like the contrast between Ingram and his mom. Venna pretends to be nice, but is only using Ryo and tries to murder him the moment he isn't doing what she wants. Ingram is abrasive and edgy, but he tries his best to keep Ryo from danger and in the end puts his own safety at risk to protect Ryo.
Ingram: Do you wanna know how I got these scars? My mother was a crow...and a fiend. And one night, she goes off crazier than usual. My bro, Ryo gets the kitchen knife to defend himself. Mommy doesn't like that. Not...one...bit. I try to hold her off while he runs away. She says, "Why so serious?" Ryo had time to get away but I couldn't escape. "Why so serious?" She sticks her claws in my mouth - "Smile for mommy!"

I got so used to this kind of game having a "true" end which is just a bad ending where you realize how dark and horrific the plot really is, that it having a wholesome and happy true ending caught me off guard.
I thought the twist was gonna be that it turns out Venna was Ryo's real mom and that legless dad just doesn't like her too much because of the divorce or some shit

The way that the dad was willing to take away the sun to keep his son Ryo safe really hits me differently. The person who makes these games are so good at these stories, they really get you attached to the characters.
I love this game because: 1, I love the dad’s design (mainly his hair) 2, at the beginning of this game it’s so wholesome but then… it gets a… disturbing later on. 3 I. Love. The. Story. Line.
It also has really good grammar
The only thing negative I have to say about this game is that there isn't enough of it.

@@boosh The exposition really was a little too lengthy, cut down a few dialogues here and there (esp for the other really unimportant chars), and I think it'll be perfect. Still, what we have now is really good imo! The writing for this game is better than the other RPG games I've seen!

I honestly thought the second ending was pretty cool/interesting. Seeing the dad of Ryo act so overprotective to the point of being like, 'I'll destroy the world/prevent the sun from ever coming up so I can protect my son', was very cool. It's hard for me to explain, but I just really like the vibe I get from the second ending. Don't get me wrong tho, I still love the good ending the most.

Now I want to see a movie based off of that second ending, with people coming after him begging to have the sun back.it could go one of two ways: he has to learn to let go and lets his son die to save the world, or a supposed hero is sent to the town from an area where he doesn’t know the story, is fighting people and friends of the family who are trying to explain the situation, and then realizes what he’s been doing and helps fix him
Ryo having no common sense especially when the Crow told him literally at the beginning to do a simple thing to be safe makes me always lose my mind.

I struggled with not having a dad myself and a horrible relationship with my brother... So i felt reallt touched with how happy Ryo is to have a big brother, one that he have an actually good relationship too.

Not sure if I prefer this to It's Not Me It's My Basement or not, but I absolutely enjoyed this. Ryo's innocence is believable enough due to his sheltered upbringing, all the designs are quite nice which isn't a surprise for this developer, and the story worked well for me. The bad ending where Ryo's father makes night last forever, while obviously bad for the entire world, is at the same time touching as it shows just how much Ryo means to him. It's the perfect foil to the awful relationship Venna has with Ingram, and I just loved that she's ultimately defeated by her "adopting" Ryo being enough to make him count as family to Ingram. That's a fun workaround on a curse.

as someone else mentioned the dad's scar on the face, it's not too improbable the witch had another child before Ingram; or since the witch has a double- bed, and that she's had a son, a halfblood son i think she said? There's also a chance Ryo's father is Ingram's dad too and left the witch before Ingram was born or soon after that.

I'm pretty sure Ryo's dad is Ingram's biological dad. Since his name was never given well, just call him dad, anyway dad said he made Ryo with magic with a lock of his own hair, so in essence Ryo is biologically Dad's son and when Ryo gave Ingram his stray to eat, it works for some reason even though the curse said he had to consume the blood of a relative to break it. Also, other evidence suggest dad met Venna is how dad looks; scar across the face and missing legs. the same way Venna tore away Ryo's legs in that one ending.

Scarecrow characters are one of my favourite types, and this one looks so cute and pure!
It’s a small detail, but I really love it when Manly alters his voice quality to fit each character/situation. Like covering his mouth to make the muffled speaking of a mask & moving closer or farther away a bit to give a sense of depth. Just those little details make the story feel truely alive when Manly narrates/reads anything.

Watching this again because this game's great, but after several revelations about my own situation... Ingram's (crow boy's) diary entries hit differently.
The part with "she's getting easier to upset" and his reaction to watching another mother were the most heartbreaking.
I think the dad died at the second bad ending because you see a pumpkin with a hat and some clothes as if the dad was a pumpkin the whole time and used the last of his magic to stop the sun from rising after using alot to stop the witch and turned back into a pumpkin after and even more the last words he says are "You'll see me in the morning." Because he knows he is going to turn back into a pumpkin after using all his magic and Ryo won't see him in the morning because there is not going to be "next morning" it also explains why he is so obsessed with saving magic.
(P.S) Also his clothes are quite pumpkin themed. 1:05:56
Crows are brilliant animals, all things considered. They could solve puzzles, use traffic lights, recognize faces, and more. The crows that live near my grandparents’ apartment building dip their food in the pool so it goes down easier.
Also have the capacity where they can remember your face and pass that knowledge onto their children's children so if you mess with one you mess with an entire bloodline

If a crow dies to say a car the murder will surround the dead crow and make it lile a makeshift grave Kinda, but they also use this as a lesson, wine the crow died by a car, they will stay away from cars or be at a great distance
And if a crow breaks curtain rules the murder will surround it and hold a trial for it, the will surround and peck at the crow who broke said rules.

Honestly, this game has become a yearly tradition for me now. It's such a perfect autumn game with wonderful characters, gorgeous art and a heartfelt storyline. It's on the same level for me as Over the Garden Wall now and Manly's playthrough is definitely the best to unwind and listen to.
Ingram was such a carry of saving the day, kinda edgy too but I like him.

To everyone thinking this whole thing could've been avoided if Ryo had listened to his father and the crow... my counterargument is that this whole thing could've been avoided if Ingram explained at *any* point what his mom did/wants. He was too vague with "it's dangerous, she's not a good person, she'll ask for payback," etc. so while ryo was really bullheaded, I don't blame him for questioning what he's been told.
From when he gets angry about being called the witch their are three thing you can conclude possible:
1. He actually is the witch and does everything from the rumors and doesn't want you to know
2. He knows the witch and doesn't like em
3. Wizards have a pet peeve of being called witches

I think it's even better to make a character that has death flags all over them but they never die.
Idea: horror game where a character becomes aware that they're in a horror game, and goes insane trying to figure out what the danger is, and ends up killing everyone to keep themself safe, therefore becoming the danger.

I've been making scenarios of a horror game where the characters actually know what they're doing and the consequences and actually not trying to danger themselves, but at some point their plan didn't go well, sometimes it does
I want to see a fully voice acted game where one day someone is transported to a horrifying reality and gain Manly’s voice in their heads, sometimes pushing them towards danger, sometimes giving them advice.
You actually can’t use carving pumpkins to make pie or any food. Sweet pumpkins are used for that. They’re smaller and more dense then carving pumpkins. Sweet pumpkins have more flesh to make pies with. So you don’t use a carving pumpkin for pies at all. Sadly I don’t think any of these pumpkins will ever be a delicious pie
Actually you can use carving pumpkins to make pies, but they aren't as sweet and the flesh is more stringy and watery than sweet pumpkins or sugar pumpkins. Just make sure they haven't gone bad sitting around! 🎃

I'm a bit sad we didn't get a bit more insight into Venna. Like, maybe it's just my natural simp nature talking, but, one wonders what caused her to be like that. Was she faking her change to being a sweetheart, or did she actually learn that abusing your child doesn't give good results?
I dunno, I've never been a big fan of 'just evil' characters.
You can't get favors from someone you can't force your will onto by being a britch. Venna needed something from someone from the outside. She can't control what Ryo does outside the forest. The only way she can ensure he does what she wants is by persuasion.
You can also tell venna was just using ryo by the way she treated her both sons. She just wanted him to curse the festival. If she loved him she wouldn't have thought of "feeding, housing, and teaching" someone as favors that need to be repaid, and she certainly wouldn't have cursed him for trying to run away.
Human or witch, she's evil either way.

I find it funny when the hero is given a choice to transport the item to point A and if they accept it... they use it.
When they refuse or try to come up with a solution... they do something stupid rather then taking it to a point where they are safe then throwing it out.

This game is super cool. I wish we could've gotten more of Ingram honestly, I feel like he doesn't stick around for as long as I needed to care about him. I wish Ryo's dad would've gotten some more story too.

I really liked this. The designs are amazing and I love all of the actual designs. I liked the development with Ingram and the kinda twist with him being the crow instead of Ryo's dad. I honestly liked all the endings. The sun won't rise tomorrow ending really shows how much Ryo's dad loves his son and cares for him. The a smile to match my own ending really shows a bit more of Ingram's true personality now that he's not just warning Ryo.

I have a theory: You know how the dad and the Witch, look similar as if there the same person? And when Scarecrow boy (I don't remember he's name) said this as a joke, ------> 'Maybe your the witch' (or something like that) He got mad, What if, Scarecrow Boys dad and the witch are siblings, and the Witch turned evil or was cruel to the Dad so he hated her?

On the bright side. the horror scenarios are rather quick compared to the rest of the game.
Ryo is such a sweet scarecrow boy ❤. He’s too pure and wanted to help people out.
This was done really well. I love the concepts behind it, and the true end is really cute (Y'know, disregarding Ingram's open injuries)! The art is also *really* nice!

The true ending was very cute, sad what the dude gone through but at least he finally has a family, very cuuuuute. Also the alternative reality where that poor kid finally has their parents AND a third one. They definitely deserved it after what they been through

Of course it has an interesting ending with his legs cut off bit after watching please don't trust strangers nor wonder off in the woods. It's close to Halloween but stay safe you don't know what could happen if your stupid.
headcanon for Embry: they went down the basement and the doctor was alive. he also resurrected/coincidentally found the parents alive (i mean, there's magic in universe). Embry finds them all okay and get a new parent (a throuple if you will) and get back a happier life
Well we don't know what went down there who to say that was Dr D blood if Ryo father exists in this universe who to say Dr D doesn't have magic and he probably killed the monster and was just trap in the basement until Embry went down

If I recall the games take place in different interpretations of the same setting.
These games take place in different timelines. From what I think, there must’ve been something supernatural going on in Embry’s house that actually killed their parents. Maybe their parents had turned into monsters which they managed to lock in the basement, perhaps they were accidentally invoked in the process which is why they’re so guilty about it and try to cling onto their old life? (Hence why they see their dream doppelganger in the basement who accuses them of being a monster). From what I get, Dr. D and Embry die in Its not my it’s my basement because it’s not supposed to be a happy ending

I like this games story and characters a lot, but I feel they were setting up something between the father and the witch and it just didn't go anywhere. With that serious look he gives Ryo when insinuating he is a witch you would think there would be a bigger climax between the two?

@@allisterthebirb4142 Venna mentioned that all of her children disappointed her in some way or another, I'm just saying that this could be an implication. Like she's tried this many times (I mean after all it looks as though she hasn't aged) before because this is her delusion of what is happiness, and she won't give up on it no matter how many people she hurts. Ingram killing her or injuring her is ending the vicious cycle. Furthermore Ingram is part crow because of his relations to Venna while if the Dad is related to Venna in some sort of way, then that's where the magic aspect comes from. We probably are overthinking this but I would be excited for a sequel still.
