It’s a long one, but lots of important info in this video on cleaning Tesla Cybertruck!
We have put chapters in, so you can skip to the part you care about!
Enjoy!
Your comments are paid for and your videos are bait and switch.
@@razorx999 ...you open the door? Is this some sort of trick question? Do doors not work in Palm Springs?
@@genephipps6421will the door burn you?
@@Dularr Ah. I live in South Texas so I understand now. I think it will be OK. Just don't press your face up against it =)
Doesn't windex remove the protection? Did you test out the hydrophic after using windex?
Excellent work on this Coleton. And for what it's worth, I'm a fan of the longer video format. It's a big part of what makes OOS unique among TH-cam content.
Fantastic series! Thank you for your diligence!! Thrilled that the upkeep is simple, albeit laborious
Wow! Great informative video. I think you've just unlocked the method to remove all the grime from factory sanding/prepping. So even if someone wraps the vehicle that this should be the very first step. I would like to know if fine polishing compound would do the trick to remove some of the factory caused abrasion dark areas on the hood and doors.
Thanks for the series. In the end, this is a truck. It is designed to be used as a truck. It's a truck that is actually tough and perfect for a construction site. Is this one of the coolest trucks ever released, yes, it is, but it is still just a manufactured product, and it will have flaws. The truly happy will figure out how to extract joy from the things they are blessed to have instead of constantly focusing on things that, and let's be real here, are far less important than almost everything else in your life. I would guess most people will spend far more time inside their cybertruck than staring at it from outside.
Thanks again Colton, your knowledge of detailing is amazing, thank you for the deep dive into making the CT look great.
Preproduction cars are months old. Production cars are weeks old. Maybe the difference is there? That barkeeper's friend might have silver in it. The remaining "smudges" and banding are due DA, mineral distribution and due different pressures the parts of the panels are exposed during manufacturing panel. There is also lot of oils used during manaufacturing the panels and during manufacturing the steel rolls.
Every commercial kitchen knows the 3 treatments for stainless hoods, panels, equipment...BKF, Windex, Shiela Shine. Still requires frequent attention, as will the Cybertruck unless you prefer the patina of time and work.
Wow,looks incredible, from a short distance away,it looks like silver paint .
Wow! Thanks the info and demonstration. I was skeptical, but the difference is stunning. Great job!
Thank you for an informative series! Loved it!
"my cybertruck cleaning recommendations: fire"
There's absolutely no way i'm keeping mine without a wrap. It's probably a good idea to do this before wrapping a truck to get the best adhesion on the wrap.
Naw. It's a truck.
I did my truck with your method today and it turned out awesome. Only thing I did different was I kept my pad wet and it went much quicker. Thanks so much.
What did you do to keep the pad “wet”
@@OutofSpecDetailing I just kept rinsing it out after every panel. It made it go much faster.
DIY Detail has a ceramic coating for bare metal…might be the ticket?
Barkeeper's Friend... yeah, called it. Next level up is wiping it off with pure ammonia cut with distilled water instead of windex. I'm not sure it's 'tarnish' you are wiping off though but just a fine layer of steel. It's basically sanding the metal lightly. The more you do it the closer to a polished finish it will get.
windex does not contain ammonia

Stainless steel is not porous at all. You keep saying that. It's not that the finger prints are soaking in. They are sitting on the surface.
Great job , can not wait till you get one in the shop , especially from what you learned already.
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth..... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
Thank you for doing the research and sharing this information with us.
Fantastic work. Glad to know this channel. looking forward to more.
I been waiting for the video to drop . thanks Coleton
Thanks, great review, amazing Bar Keepers Friend on CyberTruck. Works phenomenally for major clean with all those spots. Afterward, just shampoo wash for regular maintenances.
a big thank you for your work. It is amazing
Wow, looks amazing!
Thank you! Looks so Good!!
If you could have just washed the barkeepers friend off with water it probably would have done the same thing and then just dry it. Why would you test somewhere without access to water?
The black you are seeing is the gentle results of oxalic acid eating through hard water stains, grease, and other deposits you can’t see. You’re “passivating” the stainless steel, removing the free iron from the surface and getting a black reaction.
Do you think the SS can handle prolonged exposure to coastal salt spray? Wrapping it might be the only solution.
I was chasing streaks more with water (distilled as well) than I was using Windex.
really good info. thanks
Well done Big Guy!!! You are truly the G.O.A.T. when it comes to detailing...Hugs & Blessings!!!
Good job... I don't think many owners will do this though... all the better for your business.
Thanks for this!
Thank you! Hopefully, my CT comes in the next few weeks.
Looks amazing ❤
@32:15 I see the difference for sure . These series of videos helped out a lot .
Looks Crazy 🤪 😳 AWSOME!
It's hard to see in the video, but I loved the look of the CyberTruck after you got it all finished. That was a really informative video. Thank you!
You made it look so much better with the short time and lack of shop. The foundation series pops out more and was almost unseen before you completed your findings.
thank you
Don't have a cybertruck and will probably never have one (live in Europe) but I watched your video from beginning to end. Great job!
It is bare steel, never use ceramic with a buffer you will scratch the beautiful stainless, those are abrasive.
you opened the door the wrong way. There is a lip that you can grab from inside of the door avoiding contact with the stainless steel. Look at how Lars opens the door on the Jay Leno video at the ~30 minute mark. Proper door opening will help with the fingerprint issue.
I’m sure the Banding you speak of on the doors is from welding the inside and outside panels of the door together.. look at video from sandy munro when he toured the factory. I’m sure the heat from welding has affected the Stainless steel.
So will this be needed after washing the truck each time? Trying to figure out how you go from a dirty truck to a clean truck. Ultimately, what will a cash wash do and will it be a mess when it comes out the other end and then you need to barkeep/windex it?
So much appreciation for your work and dedication to figure it out. I’m getting mine in a few days and will definitely be doing this method
Hello, I have a large workshop and do a lot of restoration projects. I am at the top of the list for the CT and definitely liked the final video. I have a few questions:
Did you also try using the Windex on the other applied coating products to see if it had the same effect on removing the orange color under the coating?
Did the Windex remove all of the Bar Keeper's coating? This would put the steel back to the original with Just using Windex alone.
I will be interested in the outcome of using a electric buffer with the Bar Keepers cleaner. then applying the Windex after.
Good video coverage for all products shown.
Nice video, thanks for sharing! I wonder if you can skip the windex by applying all the BKF and then taking it through the carwash?
Super job 🎉. I wonder how something like Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer would work as a protectant (Hydrophobic).
loved this series, I am waiting to get my cyber truck an will not be wrapping it, any updates from the owner?
Knowing how OCD everyone is I’m sure this is not the last word. I’m still curious about protecting the SS after this cleaning process as there are many claims about clear treatments like Sheila Shine .. Everclear coatings etc. Kinda fun having something new to play with and figure out.
What do you recommend for the black plastic part?
I watched all your Cybertruck cleaning videos. Great job in finally figuring it out.
Great work! I have a strange feeling it will all be brownish in a couple weeks.
I have my Cybertruck now and next week will be the first wash. Thanks for tips about the plastic. Could you please tell me more about the applicator? Where can I buy it from? Thanks
Oxidation on this stainless steel is clearly a problem. That isn’t “Grime” you are picking up on the towels! It’s oxidation! These trucks are all gonna turn color over time. Without some type of topcoat, it’s inevitable!!!! Crazy they didn’t think of this for all the R&D time this thing took!!
Even more amazing as they have 4 year old examples and never noticed that happening.
Great discoveries. Never would I thought Cybertruck would want their trucks to look beat up and would be deliberately developing patina with peroxide/salts, through to even putting deliberate bullet dents in them.
If you have a chance to try Mothers aluminum polish (cotton fiber swab), years ago I used it on my motor cycle and it worked wonders polishing any metal surface. Just wondering what it would do to CT.
Watched the whole video, and I don't even have an EV, talk less of the CT. Very great review/video. Subscribed
Stainless corosion resitance is an oxide layer. So acid taking it off makes sense. Rust removers may work well might want to try CLR.
❤ I think we all really appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into this. I’m honestly amazed and a bit disappointed that you did not try a rinseless wash. Not a waterless wash. Rinseless! I literally just cleaned my stainless steel fridge, range and dishwasher with DIY Details Rinseless wash today. Works on everything, glass, plastic, wheels, tires, interior etc. Also, you’ll definitely want a specific METAL ceramic coating (which DIY Detail also makes…as do other coating companies) which will bind to the stainless steel properly. Lastly Barkeeepers friend works best paired with a Melamine sponge - I use that combo for any heavy grit/burnt crud on stainless steel pots and pans works better than Barkeepers friend alone. Although to remove bugs I’d try presoaking with a rinseless and use a jersey bug scrubbing sponge first before trying the barkeepers friend. BTW (I think someone else in the comments mentioned) Stainless Steel is NOT (generally) porous. Thanks for all your testing! ❤
I tried No Rinse wash on mine (I have 8 cars in my collection that I keep clean with this), but Barkeepers Friend and Windex was a clear winner over it where my Cybertruck was concerned. Spots from sprinkler water did not come off with No Rinse but it did with Barkeepers Friend/Windex
I have enjoyed watching this whole series. When I get mine I will try baking soda instead of barkeepers friend out of curiosity.
If you are up for experimenting and widow clearer works try vinegar and waters In a spray bottle as that does a great job on windows
I think my plan will be diy detail rinseless wash as it’s a polymer/surfactant rinseless with no added protectants.
Quick question; what do you recon to polish my titanium exhaust; my can is looking grimly. Thank you in advance. I’ll drop a like and follow
Kenmore stainless steel cleaner!!!!!!! By far the best.
Great video and well done! Even though I'll likely never own a cybertruck I really apcate you going though all this effort for those who do!
It seems to me that the cybertruck will take on it's on character over time.
Hey, have tried “Sheila Shine” on the Cybertruck?
Seems like a decent product, I’d love to hear your feedback. Thx.
Do you think clear coating the stainless would work?
The bands it's probably where they welded. They talk about it in one of the Monroe Live video i thnik.
Pretty much saying Foundation Series Cybertrucks are pretty much rushed and deficient products that Tesla trying to get rid off but named it fancy and profit. W for Tesla!
How about coating the truck with Rain-X?
would be cool to see a delorean type finish
I wonder if the uneven patina is due to an acid wash often used after welding.
DA= Dual Action polisher. Spins on two axis.
What are your thoughts on taking it to a body shop and giving it a thick coat of clear, like what protects regular car paint?
Stainless need to breath, don't do it
@@mrnicecar9399 How different would it be to people wrapping it? If you don't mind me asking, is this your field of expertise? The reason I am asking @OutofSpecDetailing is because of their expertise. I thought the same thing but I am not a SME on this. They are. Thank you.
Great video. Would really like to see the results using the DeLorean Stainless Steel Shampoo and the DeLorean SS-Glo Stainless Steel Polish
Would love to see you spraying it down with Iron fall out spray.
Would be interesting to see all the new product that would come out to deal with cybertruck.
how will a pressure washer work on this?
Could you rinse the bar keepers off with a pressure washer instead of towels?
Dawn is pH neutral and is not a problem
Kenmore stainless steel cleaner is the best.
I heard the issue was that railroad dust and stuff was sticking to the truck and rusting in the rain, not the truck itself
Can you test rainx spot free wash and see how that works and test weiman stainless steel wipes?
With to much cleaning will the HFS start seeing cracks?
Sounds like metal polish should work. The black residue is the same thing you get from metal polish. Metal polish followed by Windex. I'd recommend that. ALSO - Soft Scrub is basically the same chemical as BKF, and sometimes it is easier to find & cheaper. Thanks for the hard work you did here!
What about Case Paste? Would that work like Barkeeper’s Friend?
What is a DA mark?
Coleton. Let me know if you need more test trucks. I got mine since December so it’s got all kinds of rain dust and debris
Can you send me a DM via Twitter or reach out at cleardetailing.com
Can't wait to get mine. Great job, people have no idea how much time you saved them by doing all these experiments. I can't wait to see how far you take this on CyberTruck outside and inside of the vehicle.
Saw the same issues with one displayed in Tampa...yeeesh, what a miserable vehicle
Cover the truck with clear paint protection film to protect the cleaned finish now that it has been “paint corrected” with Bar keeper’s friend and Windex!
in resume?: 1st wash with Adams Shampoo and dry. 2nd apply BAR KEEPER Friend. 3rd remove with Windex and Microfiber Cloth. What about the plastic parts, just wash with Adams shampoo?
Water fountain on wheels that makes the Pontiac Aztec look good.
Haven't read every post in here but there are windexes without ammonia which I hate because of the smell. Just some info.
I remember Tesla saying that they added a lot of anti-rust coating to Cybertruck during the Munro interview. I wonder if the "tarnish" that's coming off with BKF is the anti-rust treatment to the steal.
Babes Boat Wash has a fairly strong acid based water spot remover for fiberglass boats that may work well on Cybertruck..
How much would this service cost?
I love the look you achieved with your process. It's beautiful. Question though. So if the wrap you previously tested gave the truck a patinaed look, and seeing how the truck will develop that look anyway without regular care, perhaps the wrap is a good tradeoff.
Curious if we have a “4 weeks later” look?
Would be interested in seeing how Opti-Metal Coat would look on this
