I filmed this before I lost Slamfire suddenly, or I'd have brought him up as an example. He seemed just fine, doing all the things he's always done, but suddenly his unhealthy heart sent a blood clot and I was burying him a couple hours later. He might have been aware that his heart was not right, but none of us noticed it.

I’m 26 (27 today) and I slipped a disc in my lower back last December, worst, and I mean the absolute worst pain I’ve ever endured, the type of pain you can neither imagine nor explain, I spent the first 9 days wide awake miserable, weeks went by, months went by, I started to wonder if this would ever end, it’s been so hard not to be mad at God, mad at myself, mad at the world, but that doesn’t do me any good especially since God has been right here with me this entire time, I’ve learned many, many virtues this year including vigilance, my road to recovery depends almost entirely upon that, I have to go to all the appointments, do all the physical therapy and painful exercises because this just simply isn’t the end for me, you’ve helped me a lot through this year, not being able to handle recoil sucks, I miss going to my local range. Thankfully I can live vicariously through yourself, God bless everyone who reads this 💟
Sciatica exercises are shown throughout YT. Religiously do them. Stretch up against the nerve but don't piss it off. Take Super B vitamins and chelated Copper which will help heal the pinched nerve. If possible stay the hell away from doctors. In time you should get back to normal. Also use antiinflammatories like ibuprofen. Omega 3 fish oils.
At one time I thought Chiropractors were con men, and dismissed them outright. But then I hurt my back so bad that I couldn't stand up straight, couldn't work, could barely walk. When I did walk, I had to tilt to one side and slide the opposite foot forward about three inches, then slowly tilt to the other side and slide the other foot forward. My brother in law worked part time as a janitor , and one of his clients was a Doctor of Osteopathy, which is like a Medical Doctor who also does Chiropractic. My brother in law talked me into going to Doctor D.( name withheld), and literally within a few minutes he had slipped the disc back into place, I could stand up straight, and could walk almost normally. It took about three days for all of the pain to go away, and the same amount of time to walk normally. Doctor D. retired when Obama care was passed, but now I have a wonderful Chiropractor who can feel more with his fingers than most Doctors can read on an MRI. Don't live in pain, try Chiropractic care. My little brother went for back surgery instead of Chiropractic, and he can't stand up straight and is in constant pain. I had to have neck surgery after a bad automobile accident in 2011, and have frequent severe pain as a result. But my lower back is fine, and when I do slip a disc, off to the Chiropractor I go, and then I am fine till next time. One word of caution, though. If he or she gets you well in one or two visits, you have a good Chiropractor. If they tell you that it will take "several" visits, look for another Chiropractor.
And sometimes the bad things are really good things. In 2019 I developed a bowel obstruction. I was miserable enough to take myself to the ER. The bowel obstruction cleared up after several days in the hospital without the need for surgery. However, they did a CT for the bowel obstruction and found a mass on my left kidney. This cancer did require a partial nephrectomy. Had it not been for the bowel obstruction the cancer on my kidney would have gone unnoticed util it was too late. Moral of this story, even bad things can be good things. Great philosophy Hickock.
Mr. H., I am thinking, this talk works well for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. I am thankful. I'm alive. I have food, a home, a wife who stayed through 28yrs of me in the Army, two grown kids who are fantastic adults. To me, the important things are the basics and those you love. As you said, things do come along in life that are real curve balls. Make every day count. I seem to keep learning that. Life is good.
My father and I were at H-E-B at midnight to fill some containers with water from the machines located outside of the store in the front. The store was closed for an hour already. Nobody was outside and there were only a few cars in the lot from employees behind the locked doors working the night shift. My dad and I were watching a TH-cam video before getting out of the car. Something to do with the news. A white janky-looking pickup truck drives into the parking lot. The truck drives past the aisle we were in and they park in our blind spot two aisles away. The entire time I’m intermittently checking every ten or twenty seconds to see what the guy was going to do because it’s midnight and the store was closed. Instead of dismissing it and thinking he likely was there for the same reason we were, I was paranoid. Well minutes later, this guy gets out of his truck and starts walking directly towards my dads car door from our blind spot while staring at the ground. I tell my dad and immediately he puts the car in drive and we start moving. The guy pivots 180 degrees and walks back to his truck. While we were moving, we came up on the other side of his truck while on our way to exit the parking lot. There was another man crouched behind the truck trying to hide from our sight but he couldn’t conceal himself in time. It is highly likely that they were going to ask my dad for help and then rob him or worse if we got out to help. Thanks to God first and vigilance second, I was paying attention to the man’s unusual behavior instead of writing it off as nothing to worry about. I had a gun with me but letting things get to the point where bullets start flying could’ve turned into watching my dad get shot right next to me. Vigilance can save you an unbelievable amount of grief. You make the world safer by being vigilant. Kept my dad out of danger and those men out of prison or a coffin. I am certain that vigilance is a quality that God values. Part of vigilance is avoiding dangerous situations and maybe going to a big parking lot at midnight wasn’t a good idea lol.
Respect for yourself, respect for others, and responsibility for your actions is what I taught my children. Failure of either can result in negative consequences. Good talk! Thank you!
Thank you Hickok. I always love your wise words. Reading the comments proves that we ALL go through good and bad with each passing day, month, year.... My heart goes out to the faithful, and whatever they may be dealing with.
Excellent points. I used to work with our county medical examiner and one of the most common comment made by surviving family members’ of the deceased in the office was “they were just fine yesterday”. It was the most predictable comment almost daily in there. People think they’re “just fine” but overlook the facts that they’re diabetic, 70 pounds overweight, have a history of high blood pressure, and have had two heart attacks but in their mind they’re “just fine” until they aren’t.
I love this channel. I'm not quite as old as you are Hickok, but I'm not too far behind though. I just love to get your perspective on things. Listening to different perspectives is invaluable and helps educate EVERYONE. You are the very true definition of DEI because your talks are for everyone. When you make a video and end it with " Life is Good", we know it is because of your example.
not only can Hickok shoot well he distributes great advice as well, I think the main message of this is no matter how old we are, we have to watch our own 6... Peace
Situational and general environmental awareness is a sound and always necessary life skill. Life is important, once in a lifetime it´s called for a reason. Good point!
A good topic appropriate for all times. In 2010 I got a surprise diagnosis of stage IV Lymphoma and yet am here today. Sadly, Paul Harrell is not. Some things we cannot control, either directly or indirectly, but some things we can. By the way, there's a Tennessee Great Gray Stealth Bear behind you.
Life is good! Great talk this morning. Have to mention here that there are consequences of a spiritual sort that are as important if not more important than the physical world we live in. If one believes in God and an after life with or without him, choices we make here and now can and will effect us after we pass on away. Our Bible is a great place to get answers to situations we run into today.
Thank you SSG John Cobb for asking me to be a Green Beret. I reached a pinnacle! Another favorite, "Life is hard, especially when you're stupid" - John Wayne.
I like to believe things will stay the same forever. Ill always have a job and good health. Then I have problems at work or have a health problem. Then I think about preparing for the worst.
The only time I spot danger is either on the road or at the grocery store. I have spotted arrests at the store. I have spotted police encounters that get a little spicy. These things could indirectly involve me. Strange things spill out into the public. These things can be scary because it jumps on you fast. Such as a theif runs from the cops and is running straight at you. And you are just trying to pick up a loaf of bread
I’m older than you are and if I’ve learned one thing it’s not to project. Good and bad things are going to happen I’m not saying you should walk in front of a truck or smoke. Just enjoy you life one day at a time. You can’t stop what’s coming.
I had everything going my way promoted and great wife paid off my truck then in 72 hours a storm totaled my truck when a tree crushed it and the front porch on my house ok that is ok just money start over then 72 hours later my wife of almost 20 years passes away I was there gave her cpr til paramedics arrived they worked 40 minutes but couldn’t bring her back good to nightmare it was all gone so enjoy every minute of every day while you can
Wow, sorry life had it out for you. You are a Poster Child for "Life Ain't Fair." Things are just so random, both to the negative and also to the positive.
Listen to the advice folks. We were doing fine in our mid sixties, then my wife had a minor stroke. I developed gout and fighting diabetes. Two healthy people went downhill in three years.
Life is like being a trophy on the shelf. There will always be someone looking to knock you off of the shelf. Age 45 is a really dangerous place for a Man Today, you've got a Million New Faces training to take your place, and some of the Best People in the World end up on the Streets. The Sad part is the 'Give the Shirt Off of Your Back' type of People are more likely to Suffer the Consequences of an Unforgiving World. Where would Humanity be without those willing to Sacrifice? Take Care Out There.
I've worked hard and played hard since I was a teen. Now that I'm almost 50 my liver is shot. I'll probably never see 60 because of what I thought was fun in my 20s. What's fun today might be tomorrows misery
Life is short, but eternity long, So trust in the Lord, as He knows the future and has provided a good end for those who believe in His Savior He has provided for us. This is all philosophy of life "under the sun," As Solomon's journal of life points out.

“are you aware?” Interesting question. My environment, society, agendas etc. I know of one more that so very few can even comprehend

THERE IS BEAR SNEAKING UP ON YOU!
Half way through, I noticed the bear......
Hahahaha
So very sorry for your loss.
Thank you for your words of wisdom and all you do, my friend.

The theme of the First Sunday in Advent is to be vigilant.
Coincidence? Probably not.
God Bless you and your family Hickock!
Situational and general environmental awareness is a sound and always necessary life skill. Life is important, once in a lifetime it´s called for a reason. Good point!
Good advice for sure. Really like the saying about consequences. So True.
Get rest, stay hydrated, stay SOBER. Take your vitamins.

RIP Slamfire.
I just out of the blue and for no fault of my own lost an 8 yr steady support system is what i call it. Wow the anxiety and stress is real!
With everything happening I'd say the ice just thinned tremendously for everyone.
I will save this video for when i need more anxiety and worrying in my life

Went from Hickok 45 from helping me review my guns to helping be review my life
Big layoff ? You mean like a Federal government employee?
A whole lotta conservatives work for the federal government or have federal pensions. Will be hilarious if they get what they voted for.
Rarely. Getting better.

Take Care Out There.
Stay vigilant and you will weather the storms in life.
Is that a zombie walking through in the background? Something moved?
We need a big government layoff.
Clean out.
Which ones? The military? National Parks? Who are we talking about?
Good morning Hickok
At first glance, I thought you were asking "Are you a Vigilante?" My first reaction was to ask "Who have you been talking to?"
The transfer case on my Tahoe is not cooperating with the rest of the system. Needs replaced. Just another Day ; )
After two back surgeries and needing another i think well Jesus has taken care of me so far so I’ll be okay.
I’m directly related to Robert Louis Stevenson. He’s a great uncle. We even look alike.
Funny lookin dog, sir
Very vigilant especially when open carrying 😉😉
