I keep recommending my friends 'to stock up on truth'. They look at me with glazed eyes and a blank expression...
I have a feeling we will have a shortage of truth in the future, don't forget toilet paper too!!
Truth cannot be destroyed, by definition of natural law, that is what makes something true. Everybody can choose not to believe in it, or it can be hidden and obfuscated even for centuries, but truth cannot be destroyed.
Right now people willingly choose not to seek truth, but in the future their instinct and metabolism will require the truth, but it will be hidden and unavailable for them...
So please study natural law and stock up on truth!

You're a good man, thank you for obliging us and our questions! On the topic of old TV shows, I believe the BEST series of the Western genre is 'Have Gun Will Travel'. Much along the lines of the also liked 'Rifleman', each episode was based on lifetime lessons, morals, integrity, honesty. Paladin was ahead of his time and Richard Boone was truly an inspirational actor for a kid like me. I'm not sure he realized just how important his impact was on his audience! I think it was significant and while he has passed on, I only wish that while he was here that he knew the big impact he had on his audience and his role as Paladin. It's something that I believe he would've valued had he known it or even comprehended it in his life.

I agree with the Federal HST. My carry in .45 for years. But as you said, there are a lot of good carry ammo out there from a lot of different manufacturers. When it gets down to .380, I prefer the extreme defense, (Screwdriver bullets). And yes, number one in any carry ammo is function. If it doesn't work, it isn't as good as ball ammo.

I had the Remington Golden Saber 10gr in my 380 S&W Bodyguard. But I just changed it out with American Eagle 95gr FMJ the other day. I got my 1st revolver at age 12. It was a used $20 RG 22 snub nose. I carried that gun everywhere I went around our small farm in the 70's. I'm almost 60 now- and I've carried every since then. Almost every type of handgun and calibers and bullet types. I'm 6 years prior service. FMJ was what we carried in all of our weapons. I felt ok using those rounds, and I honestly still feel ok with FMJ and round nose lead. I know that attitude isn't popular now, but that is just how I am. I do carry hollow points too. I've got ammo cans full of the latest and greatest rounds that are now looked down on. I honestly like the reliability and cost of the non-hollow points. I personally think "over penetration" is way over worried about. I guess like most guys, I constantly change my mind on what to load up with. But reliability is my first concern. I have to have a bullet- gun combo that I trust. I have lost sleep when I've had malfunctions. I have to totally trust my carry gun and ammo.

I carried a Taurus G2S for almost five years. I was not much into spending money on firearms, and it worked through all of my training and practice, until one day it didn't. The trigger failed. That was all it took for me to get a different CC gun. Now, many dollars later, I have a wide rotation of carry guns. If ANY of them fail when I am practicing or training, and it's the gun's fault, I mothball it. A carry gun needs to work 100% of the time, no exceptions.

When I graduated from college, my good friend went off to med school, we stayed in touch but his schedule and me becoming a Police Officer. We were on different sides of the country. He did I think 4 years in a top trauma hospital for residency. And continued until he went off to be an orthopedic surgeon 10 years later. At a wedding together we spent the weekend together on hunting trip and caught up on past time. One of the things I brought up was in his experience of what was the most devastating type of bullet he saw in his time in trauma center, trying to get at the best bullet to have for self defense. As I would discuss what we carried and saw worked at stopping perps. He basically said it’s not the bullet which is the most important but he said it was 4 things that determine the effectiveness of a bullet. 1st was the placement of the bullet on the body, 2nd was the rapid response of transportation with ENS care to a hospital, 3rd was the type of Hospital the victim was going to, and the 4th and last which he said laughing but seriously was which Doctor was on duty at the trauma center. He said some doctors that get the trauma rotation are so bad, you were better off going to a veterinarian.

Yup. That's why you see statistics like 50 people being shot and 5 of them dying in a weekend in Chicago. People always ask why they're such bad shots. The real reason for so (relatively) few fatalities is that it's a major city. If 50 people were shot in the small town where I live, I would imagine that the number of fatalities would be much higher, because we have one small hospital with a handful of doctors. Of course, it's also pretty unlikely that we would ever have 50 people shot here, so it all works out.

My old carry ammunition was the Federal Hydra Shok 124 grain +P+ for my service issued Glock 19. My agency switched to the Winchester SXT 124 grain +P. The Winchester SXT was a better performer.
Most Law Enforcement agencies are using 9mm again. The heavy 147 grain loads are preferred for better penetration. Back in the early 90s the 147 grain hollowpoint subsonic ammunition had a bad reputation for over penetration and requiring multiple hits to stop the threat. In reality, proper shot placement always will stop a threat. Practice with the pistol you carry and shoot the ammunition that works the best.

Regarding the 44-40 vs 44 Magnum question, the 44-40 (44WCF) case is 0.20" longer than the 44 Mag, and 0.14" larger diameter at the base. The rim is larger and the bullet slightly smaller in diameter than the 44 Mag. It's unlikely but not impossible that a 44 WCF cartridge could be stuffed into a sloppy 44 Mag chamber. But the advice to use the right ammo is right on.
