Can Knowledge Be Dangerous?
Exploring Alexander Pope's brilliant lines about how limited knowledge can be dangerous!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Welcome to the "Hickok45 Talks" Channel. This channel is a place for me to just pontificate about random topics that somebody out there might find interesting. I will talk about firearms issues quite a lot, but I'll also exercise my license to talk about any topic I might pretend to know something about.
If you have a topic you'd like me to address, let me know. Doesn't mean I'll address it, but who knows, I might.
Thanks for your support, and I hope you'll subscribe to all three of our channels and keep up with all the brilliance here!!! :-)
www.youtube.com/@hickok45 - Our main channel.
www.youtube.com/@Hickok45Clips - Our channel where John pulls clips from our existing library of videos.
www.youtube.com/@Hickok45Talks - This channel where all material is new material where I talk about one specific topic in each relatively short video. Hope you enjoy.

The Brass? How do you pick up casing’s? 1 by 1? Giant vacuum? Or let them turn into a brass/metal /plastic walkway? Pain, cause we pick them up 1 by 1.

The "prescriptive grammarians" of the 1800's are the reason for several artificial "rules." Rather than observe how people really spoke, these prescriptive grammarians used Latin as a basis for rules. In Latin you cannot end a sentence with a preposition, or split an infinitive, but Germanic languages certainly can, and do, to good effect! English is a blend of Germanic and Romance (Latin based) languages - thanks (?) to the Norman Conquest of 1066. One seemingly highly artificial construct are the rules for will/shall as they flip and flop for 1st person singular and plural.

Yes, and while too many folks are infected with "I seen that," and " He's drove my truck before," others are obsessing over who / whom, lie/lay, and split infinitives. :-) Gud gramer iz jest weigh ovr-rated!!!!

knowledge is very dangerous. I advise everyone to pursue knowledge. Knowledge allows you to think critically and that will allow you to be free. Know enough to know that you don't know enough about something to admit it and listen to someone else.

Lots of people confuse information with knowledge and wisdom. We have no shortage of information, but true knowledge and wisdom are much more scarce.

    • @williamwright8594

I think the problem is that we don't know what to do with the information we have access to or to know the difference between real and false information or how the information is presented.

There must be an angel that watches over people when they learn a little bit about something and try something WAY beyond their level and yet amazingly get away with it when they never should have. Not always though. Some.pay a high price for it. But not knowing how how difficult or impossible something is sometimes makes it more possible somehow.
