For one, there’s barely any contemporary rap music on the films soundtrack. It’s almost as if the music of the film reflects Fresh’s viewpoint, looking beyond his immediate confines towards something more. Also, there’s a lot of key scenes that are dead silent outside of dialogue exchanges. Barely even any ambient noise from the environment. It’s also possible that this was a deliberate sound design feature that serves as a way of conveying Fresh’s mindset: “silent waters run deep,” and so on…
