      The surest bet was betting on me when I played anyone on a pinball machine. I was a former 6 time world pinball champion. I played pinball at the Broadway arcade in New York and went undefeated for two decades. I was part owner of the arcade with Steve Epstein.

    Having a gambling addiction can hurt more than the addict. My wife had a good friend that had a sister who had a gambling addiction so bad she lost her business, house, and family. It got to be so bad she acted as a lookout for someone who attempted to break into our house. Fortunately, I had the window setup where you cannot open it or lift it out of frame from the outside.

      I'm not an educated woman at all, so don't take what im.saying super literally. I belive that Gamblers like to play with their adrenaline. The exhilaration they experience when winning far surpasses the birth of a new baby or the successful.completion of ..say a Painting that has finally been completed or you finally get that job you've been after for sooo long. Its not so much as the Stalk, like addicts go through, it's all.about the Kill. The Win. Gambling is simply all about Lying to yourself. None of it is the gamblers fault, ever! It's blamed on Bad Luck. In other words, it's not ME! It's my LUCK. It's not my thinking. It's my bad luck! Sooner or later I'll get Lucky. Dats all!!

    Not sure about other states but I know my state doesn't have any rehab facility for gambling addicts. Basically calling a hotline or going to addiction meetings ( that aren't even specified to gambling ) is about all we have. It's pathetic how limited the resources are. Drug addicts and alcoholics seem to have a plethora of rehab options though. Gambling addicts are typically afterthoughts.

    I think we, who struggle with this, and GA need to push our elected representatives to recognize that compulsive gambling is an addiction as dangerous as being a drug addict and/or alcoholic. The resources for gambling addicts are limited. Insurance companies don't even recognize it as a disease, yet gambling affects the brain the same way it does drug addicts and alcoholics. We need to take a stand. We can hide the gambling addiction, unlike drug addicts and alcoholics, which somehow makes us not worthy of professional help.

      Brains are highjacked by gambling. It’s the repeated dopamine hits….as much as hundreds per hour. Brain scans show this. Nobody wants to be a problem gambler. By the time someone realizes or can admit the problem, they are likely in deep. It’s a lifetime disease. But there IS recovery for those who truly are ready. For those who say, “just don’t go” - would be wonderful if it was that simplistic a solution. Ongoing support is needed. And the problem is getting worse & worse thx to Smartphone gambling and legalized sports betting. Our youngest legal gamblers are paying the price AND it’s a family disease. Nobody is really immune from being affected.

    Betting with bookies in the old days could get dangerous. Because you could bet with money you don’t have. Only had to worry about it if you lost. Nowadays betting online you first have to have the money in an account before betting. So legalizing sports betting actually is a good thing. Helps people from getting in over their head.

    • @davewilson7255
      @davewilson7255 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is far from the truth. An addict will always chase the bet and sometimes it's about being in the action and it's not about winning. It ultimately ends the same way whether using bookies or legal sports betting online: prison, insanity, death, loss of family, loss of self, loss of job, loss of family.

    Yikes… regardless, this is a real issue in so many homes. A true addiction; I know too many who’ve lost more than they can ever get back. And to think it’s being pushed now more than ever, after years of arrest and sending folks to prison doing the same thing that the government does now all in desire for another dollar. The true gangsters are the ones on single digit tv channels every day. Pathetic.

    If you’re gambling $50, that $50 should be mentally treated as a write-off or a mere “amusement fee”. But if you happen to win say $136 in the process and would like more fun, then you should treat $100 of that amount as the “floor” and gamble with only $36.
    If you get to say $172, then $150 becomes the floor and $22 is expendable. That way you’d crystallise your progressive windfall and walk away with net win everytime, or at most you’ve limit your loss to only $50 (assuming you don’t do it too often).
    And for the love of god if that $50 is for rent then please pay rent because you have exactly $0.00 for gambling.
