The "clock" doesn't represent time. It represents pressure. When he talks about putting the clock on the GM's he's talking about if life dealt them as bad a hand as it did him, he'd take them out with ease. It's true. So many "geniuses" are so intelligent because they have the resources to build their intellect and the environment to nuture it. This isn't the reality for many people, especially the oppressed Africans in amerika. If the same people who champion the system had to bear it's weight, they'd fold.
@@SinewRending that's so true especially with rich folks that had everything handed to them when they lose everything they rather commit suicide than to do the work to regain what they lost
Great movie...however he could put the clock on em' all he likes...he is not going to chew any of those players....biting off way more than he can chew...heck, he could not even open his jaws wide enough to take a bite....but poetic license allows for such talk. Knowledge can be a burden. Great movie.
Yo yo yo talk shit to anyone you want but bobby would shit on you no matter what time control Also Samuel l Jackson is a fictional characters he can be whatever the writer wants
It's a funny analogy to life but totally not true; all of those GMs, especially Fischer, would kill this guy in a game. It's as if the writers didn't know that GMs also play on tight time controls.
It's meant to mean street smarts outweigh book smarts in their world. He mentions the outside distractions, desperation of phishing for dollars. Hard to win when you might be stabbed for doing so
The mistake you make is viewing the clock as a metaphor for time. It isn't. It's a metaphor for pressure. Making critical, informed decisions under increasing amounts of pressure is fundamental to winning the game of life and chess. That's why Fresh was so successful.
@@musiqkidchristian I would never mistake the clock to be a metaphor for time because the clock is already a symbol for time itself; it would be redundant. Nevertheless, time is a type of pressure because it is always running out. What should be said is that the conversation as a whole is meant to represent real life and not (just) the game of chess, because both suffer from the pressures of time and decision-making.
Ya. it's a cool scene. But at the master level. You have to have a clock. THose guys sitting there with no time. There ability. Game would take for ever. But you always got that guy who never botherd to be titled. But he is a killer even up to the grandmaster level.

Sounds like some affirmative action in your comments. You should get out more often, smell the fresh air.
