- Hey guys here are five simple basic but very well known issues that are found with the Mercedes W203 C180 Kompressor i have owned a few mercs including the one in this video which is my daily driver and so far this are the first problems i always come across

ive got a c180 kompressor from 2002 with 29k km, beatiful car🥰
I just bought my second w203. You've hit the nail on the head with the things to look out for 👍
Thanks man 👍 I've now had my 2004 C180 Kompressor for 2 yrs and you're tips have been spot on. Especially the driver's door handle, I couldn't believe it when it came off. Easily fixed. Thanks again 🇦🇺
Unfortunately, you forgot the most important typical W203 errors. The suspension has significant weaknesses, with the control arms often breaking, and the suspension doesn't last long either. If the car is constantly squeaking, which often happens, it's usually the so-called squeak bushings, also a control arm problem
Very welcome your advisors mate! Bravo
You absolutely right. I have all those issues in my 180 kompressor
Great video Sir.I just bought an old W203 .Vetri South Africa 🙏🇿🇦🙏
A very good and informative video, thank you.
Very informative video, thank you
Awesome video, very informative :)
I already have done it, subscribed to your channel, like the way you narra.
Thanks very much sir
Tienes toda la razón,tengo uno igual y aquí no hay piezas para este coche
Also with the C200K, same problems. Well spotted.
Thank you great video
Great vid. About time someone who knows about cars. And shares honest advice ✨ sub n liked.
thanks Sean
Totally accurate!
Great vid
for the nylon intake hose if yours is still good, wrap wide insulation tape nice and tight around it i did mine like 3 years ago still holding up good saved me having to replace it and makes it not fall apart.
That’s a good trick I saw some one had done the same i just never thought of trying but there after market plastics I think just rare to find
@Nemz, I picked up a neglected 2005 MB C class 180K last month the car only had 50k (one owner from new) I’ve already replaced the rocker cover + spark plug gaskets (leak in the spark plug wells) and replaced a dodgy vacuum line to the intake manifold which caused the p0171 EML (common fault) with a ramair silicon one, its needing some upper wishbone control arms (common fault) as they knock hard and you can feel it especially on our horrible roads here in the UK, apart from brakes and your typical serviceable items, she’s been pretty good so far touch wood, I am going to just keep up with regular maintance so hopefully she’s still got some more life great video btw 👍
I’m glad to hear your merc story there amazing cars and I think the W203 will always be the best version of the c180 I bet you enjoyed fixing all the issues you mentioned hopefully one day you will share a video of your work thanks
@Nemz Repairs surprisingly enough, she's been a joy to work on, I am use to owning and working on Japanese cars, so I was on the fence about how this one we come out, but I have gained some good experience on German engineering 😀, I hope to have the courage one day to make good quality videos 🙏🏾
Lovely video you are right about most of the points but depending on your region in my own case is the passenger side door handle. Can you also recommend the best type of oil for most of us in Africa plus for the intake air hose there is an after market plastic intake hose which doesn't break.
Castro GTX is the best oil recommended by Mercedes 5W 30 makes the engine very quite but need to service at good time to keep things in check
Happy New Year 🥳 bro.
Please 🙏 i want to know the actual size of the fuel tank.
Thanks
My goodness you right!!!!!!
Another very common problem on the Kompressor model is the crank case breather /vacuum hoses. One below the airbox and the other above the airbox. The lower one always fails as it rubs on the airbox.
There's one under the airbox and one under the supercharger. I needed to change the one under the airbox and did it myself. But the other requires removal of the supercharger, which I don't think I'd ever attempt.
True.
Thanks man I am driving one with 137 000 km on the click since I bought it in January 2008.Good but will not sell it for anything
Hey I need help with my w203 when I start it makes a funny noise but after two minutes the noise stop I think it's one of the pulleys
Driver's door handle yes. BUT have you checked your headlight light wiring insulation? Pull off dust caps an look. If you go in there to put in H7 LEDS get ready for depression. No replacement wiring loom.
Hi Nemz, just bought a second 2007 last week and you are right on your main points. I am having difficulty in finding the correct part number for the Intake Hose. Can you help me with that number?
Where you based
@@nemzrepairs In Trinidad which is a small English speaking island just north of Venezuelan in the Caribbean. Our cars are Right Hand Drive so some of the parts are incorrect out of the USA. Been check Ebay for the part but this one is not as straight forward as others. Now checking out your other videos. Just called my mechanic and told him about your video!!! Very useful.
Nice video, what about oil consumtion? Exatly who is the normal consmume?
oil is 5.5L and service as per manual book instructions i have a video here on how to service

YES SIRR
Hey Nemz. Great video, definitely can relate to #1, #2 and #4. However, the biggest issue on my C180 is that it will not exceed 80km/h and limits revs at 2 500rpm. [ even with the gas pushed to the floor - almost like there is a fuel cut ]
Do You know what the problem may be?
Thank You.
hi is it automatic or manual
@@nemzrepairs it is a 6 speed manual
Check if the limiter is on
Morning sir,am planning to get c180 are they pocket friendly when it comes to fuel consumption
1.8...
I would say they are okay 👌
Thanks for this information, but please how is the fuel efficiency for this car ?
These cars don’t like slow driving i found long journeys save more fuel than short ones I think it’s 36 miles per gallon
@@nemzrepairs Okay. Thanks a lot Man.
I have a M271, it's a great engine, it just needs some care
That’s what I tell everyone the late 203 was good engine same engine in 204 but Mercedes made new ones quicker and built them from cheap means
@@nemzrepairs I have W203 2003, the engine has a new timing chain, regular oil changes, I use additives in the fuel and the engine works great, 260xxx km
Mercedes C180 Kompressor does not shift from 1st gear, i've chaged the transmission fluid, when it reaches 60 it cut.. can you help
you need to replace the gear shift module it goes off after a while
Are the maintenance costs reasonable? are these C-Classes better choice over A-Class of the same era? (Reliability wise) I need an automatic petrol under £3.5k and so far I’ve only came across dodgy broken cars..I was looking for BMW 1 series,VW Golf,Audi A3 and Mercedes A-class..
HI i think it depends on which country your in but if your in Ireland i can give you alot of information in terms of road tax and garage prices for services otherwise these c180 dont need much for repairs as the dont break easily
@@nemzrepairs I’m in UK..would you say they’re more reliable than a Mercedes A Class of same era? (these c class are actually cheaper here) or a VW Golf 5?
@@nemzrepairs Hey man.
I am in Ireland myself, and I just got one today, or rather, in the process of getting one. It still looks okay, and just passed NCT 2 weeks ago. I am thinking of getting it full checked though. What do you think I should look out for, or do you have a referral garage or mechanic for me in Dublin?
Thanks.
@@kingsleyogunedo-uq3wm look at those small issues I mentioned also when you buy the car do an oil change coolant change fuel and all filter change for peace of mind don’t ever believe the car was serviced most Irish cars never see oil changes until the sold to next man i can’t refer you to any work shop I usually work on my own cars and don’t work on friends or customers how ever depends on area your I’n the should be few good garages there google them if your going to do any work on it yours self even better save you money you can watch some of the videos I did related to fixing most issues I mentioned cheers
My c180 has very low power and scanner don't show any codes
Any idea if it's the kompressor ???
Have you any vacuum leaks is the kompressor wining too hard .. usually they don’t don’t break the last very long but check that your injectors are getting enough fuel from the pump check your coil packs also check alternate bad fuel slows them down as the age so start tracing from vacuum leaks to fuel supply then check coils alternating cuz plugs would have thrown a miss fire code so that’s ruled out
thanks for the great video... I am planning on purchasing a merc c180 2006. It has 80,000 miles and seems to be in good condition. it's being sold for £5000. would you recommend it? ill use the info you provided to see if anything is wrong with it before i purchase it. thank you
For Five grand it’s a lot as the value for this car has depreciated over the years unless the car is as good as new cosmetics in bodywork and engine is as in very good condition otherwise you can pick up same car for 2000 to 3000 in very good condition as-well
@@nemzrepairs Thank you for the swift response.. I think It's 5 grand because it's an automatic, and also I live in sweden so cars are generally more expensive for some reason.. From the pictures on the car dealer website, it seems to be in very good condition, the only issue i can can see is that it might have a cam shaft magnet leak, since the face of the engine where the cam shaft magnest are look kind of brownish, but other than that the engine looks new, but I will have to see it in person to determine that.
@@biobaza9926 ow okay that explains price in uk or Ireland they have lowered in value but there very good cars and are reliable
Selling mine it's in good condation
You forget to tell these have problem with timing chain and down air hose pipe problem from engine motorblock to intake air
The old versions don’t really have timing issues it’s the 204 from 2007 mostly how ever thanks for the mention it will help thank you sir give us a thumbs up
My mercedes c 180 year 2003 kompressor having a problem of engine sudden stop when on a move engine will cranked but won't start I will have to wait 10 to 15 minutes before can start again it move 10 to 15 minutes and does again what can be the problem somebody should help me
That’s can be happening for a number of reasons first is the temperature to high or normal when this happens is your key and mobiliser working properly lastly when it cuts off after cranking is it receiving fuel from tank so start with fuel when this happens pull out the feed pipe and crank to see if fuel coming then check your coil packs it getting spark if ignition is okay then look at the immobilise could be key loosing memory on the go

Check your Sam unit it’s not a big problem
@nemzrepairs oh thanks so what do you think I should do? Sometimes it disturbs me when I'm on the highway
@@modoukebbeh3596 take it out the Sam module and see if somehow water found it’s way there or the soldering is loose and probably needs soldering again or just cleaning with isopropyl alcohol
@nemzrepairs ok thanks, I will do that
I guess you owned a M271 engine hehe.
my tensioner pulley seized , then melted , then flew off and buried itself into the supercharger air intake taking the belt with it
than was catastrophic
@@nemzrepairs Yep , dash lit up like a Christmas tree , i think all of them came on at once !!!
@@linwoodlane7006 crazy story did you sort the car in the end
Yep all sorted now , didnt change the tensioner itself as the spring was fine ( and took a breaker bar to move ) i just replaced the pulley on it with a new one @@nemzrepairs
@@linwoodlane7006 that’s good to hear I’d like to hear more of how this happened would you be interested in sharing this story through video call some day I want to gather such story’s for a video some day
those are only smaller problems with this car, the biggest and most common one is rust, not only on this car but almost on every merc between 2000-2008
some other problems
Driver side doors and locking
electric seat adjustments
gearstick tends to wear a lot, even after 200000 Km
Just an overall poor interior design materials
SRS error (almost every merc old like this, has this error
my advice, unless you really love this car, STAY AWAY FROM IT. Just do yourself a favor
