Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor 2003 Problems & Solutions Part 1

- After 15yrs of use the Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor starts to develop a lot of problems from Mass air flow, Throttle body, Pedal, intake Manifold, Transmission, Fuses, cooling system, alternator etc. I am going to describe the problems and solutions in this video series so stay tunned.

I bought the Coupe C230 Kompressor (2003) in 2019 actually with 93K miles. It's Sept. 2021 now, and I just passed smog after replacing the purge valve/hose myself (p0442) and threw in some new coils and plugs. I had an intermittent code for p0171 but my cousin has a 5,000 machine at his home and he gave me a full diagnosis for any issues. I love the transmission in this well balanced economy auto! I went ahead and found a Benz specialist to clear up a rough idle but the MAF sensor was fine, they replaced a pulley, the leak near the fuel tank usually found with 2005 C230 models but they also missed the obvious purge valve hose tear up front. I have a Mexican mechanic who does minor part replacements or I do them myself to learn the Mercedes kinks. We replaced the lower radiator hose due to the original hose clamp cracking the plastic joint. Anyways, codes all gone, runs fine at 110K miles.
My cousin had told me the temp sensor needed replacing in 2019 or I could ruin the cat, but as of the smog, scans with my 300. Zurich reader every 60 days, my '03 Coupe has not indication of bad emissions, leaks, oxygen sensors or the temp sensor. I bought the oxy sensors on eBay but may wait until 2022 to replace them. It's a California car, garage kept by a little old lady who only drove it to the mall. What I discovered was, EVERYONE overfills the car when doing the oil change, per the manual -- the car actually takes about 1/3 less oii to avoid leaking on the plastic cover below. The oil filter can be tightened to spec or by hand so as to hear and feel the rubber seal get stretched out of place. I had to do my own oil filter change at home to learn what the dealer and specialty shop was doing wrong! I am lucky I bought a clean engine car because most of these M271 engines are quite dirty.
You know, half the fun of owning a German car is getting to buy new parts or modify them through the decades. I went ahead and put some aftermarket Versus II rims and Toyo Extenza II tires on... and a new soundsystem, alarm, subwoofer/amp. Window tint looks great, soon to get wrapped and new front bumper and projector headlights.
So what about the air-conditioning system? I have a 2003 C200 kompressor with constant a/c issues...

I had issue like this once in my SAAB 9-3 from 2004. Pedal was bad and not allowing fuel delivery. A good scanner will tell you any issues. Good video

Have your technician check the alternator... It's probably bad. Does it show a red alert on the dashboard?
Mines isnt holding charge i think as well getting battery checked soon
Learnt alot.. especially about the airflow system of this model.Mine is a C200kompressor 2003 edition .My major problem is working of the air-conditioning.Not been able to solve the problem after replacing almost all the a/c parts...any ideas how I fix it?😏 Thanks
Thanks for the video very nice explaining. I had the same problem and I got this part changed by my mechanic. The problem also this car have is from the front side where the engine is from the sensors where the too cables going is leaking after some time and everybody with this model should buy oil stop cable and plug them to prevent oil leak in the whole cabels and to prevent the oil to go to the computer. I did it few weeks ago. This is very important. The car which are affected from this oil leak problem are slk too.

I own one with m111 955 engine, it give me rough idle, and hardstart when cold. MAF IS NEW, are there any recommended resources that could help me, I get misfires from all 4 cylinders. And the consumption fluctuates

Your video kind of explains my issue but I thought may be my cat converter because was making a little metal rattle noise when you press on gas. Video in my page so what did you have to do change the pedal? To fix or throttle body? Thanks
Pls I have issues with my car same model,when I put the car on park,it's jerking like a coil or sparkplug having issues.but after changing it same things and I have also change the turbo charged and still same....when I continued with the jerking and refused to move fast and the turtle didn't allow the acceleration...but after allowing it to move on with the jerking it balance in 3 minutes....

Pls I have this car but I hardly use it because I couldn't find a better engineer to help me manage it... Right now the AC compressor that is there at the moment was worked with an anger and the hanger has broken I couldn't get the exact hanger, so I couldn't use the car... Can I get it's own AC compressor and how do I contact you
Please someone help, I have spent all I have trying to fix this issue. Mid drive my Mercedes c200 compressor 2003 will just stop accelerating, and would only move when I power down and restart it, some times after two tries. Please what's the problem
I have w203 with the same engine 71 ,c 200 kompressor very poweful,very comfortable, very stable ,but just yesterday i was driving a long way up to 200kph,then after bouncing a bump unexpectedly ,it lost power acceratation goes up to 30kph but no power and it seees like there's leak mass airflow,ok o will consider your advice as the way forward.
Probably knocked one the intercooler hoses off

You'll need to take the car for electronic diagnosis to pin point the exact component that is faulty.

Sometimes traction can happen in split seconds even before you know what to do except you're a stunt driver. Traction control is a very important feature that i will not advice anyone to turn off. Traction control have saved me many times during heavy rains. I never attempted turning it off.
Wow! To think that we were all on the verge of killing ourselves years ago when cars didn't have traction control. Mercedes benz has a most annoying traction control too, especially when you're trying to accelerate from a stop sign into traffic. Floor the gas pedal, the car lurches for a moment and then the traction control comes on and you lose all the power. Mercedes would be nice cars if they didn't suck so bad.
@@paul5683I’ve had my 2004 C230 Kompressor (2 door hatchback) for 6 years. It had low mileage when I got it so I’ve done well in that regard. I grew up driving 60’s and 70’s Camaro’s, GTO’s and street performance 350 V8 Vega’s. Although, I’d have any of my old hot rod’s back in a heartbeat, the Kompressor is an all round better car. I don’t have an issue with traction control on mine. It tells me that it’s slipping but it doesn’t really cut power. As a matter of fact that’s the only annoying issue for me. It tends to break loose in the back end too much for my liking.

My AC doesn't work took it to a mechanic no leaks, they said it might be the A/C compressor wanted to know if you had the same issues or something similar and how did you fix it.
The AC of this car is a pain to fix. The position of the compression is not a good place. Almost half of the engine will need to be removed to get to the compressor so a very experienced technician is needed to do this. It is also advisable to replace the condenser because the dryer might be blocked too.

Something could be wrong with the ECU (electronic control unit) or battery connection might be faulty. I need more information. You need a technician close by to check the car.
What's the meaning of ELEC. STABILITY PROG. ?
It's a complicated program comprising of electronic component, mechanical component and software components that help the car to stay stable even when the road is slippery. Maybe during rain, snow or muddy place.

It's sometimes called cold-start. Yes, it can happen especially when the engine is getting weak or the oil is almost due for a change. Happens mostly in the morning.

The engine belt is probably weak. When the AC compressor comes on it adds more load to the belt and if the belt is weak it starts to make noise. Sometimes its the pulley of the compressor that makes the noise. The hub inside the compressor pulley might be having stiffness that can result to some noisy output.
The serpentine belt has a small shock absorber connected to the belt tensioner to absorb the fluctuations of the belt when the a/c is on The shock has worn out bushings on the upper end If u carefully touch the shock while engine is idling with ac on the knocking noise will stop
What if key is not starting the the car is only turning the engine and not starting?
You might need to check the fuel pump

I know about the head lamps, the dashboard displays and radio can be changed from 2003 model to 2007 model not further than that.
Can a dirty air filter result in overheating. or lac of air contribute to overheating?
Dirty air filter from my experience will not result to overheating for this particular car. It will rather cause a disruption to the mass air flow which could slow down the movement of the car. Check the cooling fan and coolant to resolve overheating.
I would look at the Cooling Fan being up to RPM and or the Radiator doing a sufficent cooling job (ie. not clogged) IMHO
@@lvgeorge you are/were correct. I noticed the radiator cooling fan not running the last time I started it and after turning the AC all the way up.. it still didn't cut on. Not leaking/burning coolant, so it can't be a leak. Thank you!

Is the brain box same as the control board?
I don't know about the control board but my diagnostic kit calls it ECU - Electronic Control Unit.

You need a diagnostic kit to check the error points. It could be the pedal sensor or throttle body or MAF (mass air flow). It can also be a simple leak in the air flow system. You need to know the particular one by using the OBD diagnostic kit.
Some serious razor wire there.
I own this kind of car with same engine. But my own problem is that my car vibrates
Have your technician check the engine sittings. Some of them are probably bad

I had a 2003 CLC with exactly the same engine. What-a-load-of-rubbish car. The engine itself was perfect, but the bits around it ........ oh maaaan!!! I had no end of trouble and ended up scrapping it. I later found out that Mercedes took the eye off the ball between 2000 and 2005. Using cheap plastics, rubber and sensors. It developed an oil leak near the top of the engine and back which got into the wiring loom which needed to be replaced because dirt in turn got into the connectors. At some astronomical cost. Walk away from Mercs made between those years. Also. NEVER buy a first iteration of ANY model car. Loads of bugs!! I learnt the hard way.
Yes, a car made that year will definitely have issues today. Oil leaks is an almost unavoidable and reoccurring problem. It takes love for that car to ignore all its troubles and fix them. I had loads of issues myself with the car that I thought of selling it off as scrap but when i remembered the feel when driving the car, i decided to give it another shot at fixing it. I researched about the car before fixing so it was easy but expensive though.
As a Master certified MB tech I DISAGREE with the OPINION of this man making this video. HIs car was misdiagnosed. The scanner results were simply not followed thru and the mechanic there some expensive parts at it and Homeboy paid the price.lol. I can assure you it did NOT need the EA or the pedal assembly
