I've had that exact same model for 14+ months now. All black, mesh, lumbar, no forward tilt. For me, the lumbar is essential. I even had one of those ALL33 chairs, that's ALL lumbar. The Fern is the best chair I've ever used, and it's not even close. Mine replaced an old Herman Miller office chair, which was good but old. I recently got a Steelcase Leap V2 for my 2nd office. It's very nice, but the Fern is still my favorite. So much so, in fact, that I've now ordered an Atlas Headrest for it.
word of caution, the armrests well ... arms, the parts that bolt into the main frame of the chair, can be plastic or aluminium. I got a cheaper black one and it came with the plastic ones and they were creaking a lot. I fixed it by identifying the problem area, taking them apart and applying a decent amount of silicone grease. People online say the ones with the aluminium bits don't creak ...
The atlas headrest can be lowered to be overlapping the top of the chair, pretty much the same way the stock headrest does. So you dont really nees to be taller for it
Literally same scenario, my Fern with lumbar (and digital knit) arrived today, and I spent a few hours on it and wondered why my mid back started to ache. At the price, it doesn’t make sense for me to try to force myself to like it. Just set up the return process and ordered a HM Embody.
How did you like the one without lumbar? Have seen a lot of people say they couldnt use it for work/office setting because then there's almost no support and feels like a hammock.
Everyone mentions the fern is far better without the Lumbar. I just ordered mine without and no head rest either, for 1300 CAD brand new, will be hard to beat that chair bang for buck.
@@koreymayo8884It is easily removed by an owner and Haworth has a PDF of instructions available from their website. The trickiest part is getting the fabric back off the Fern chair.

Do you find the embody more comfortable?
@@chnlng00 I do for sure. I’ve had it for a month now. But everyone’s different!
very helpful thanks korey
Unfortunately the UK don’t allow customisation or even the lumbar unless you get from London supplier at more cost! 😢
Happy I saw this. Had a mesh no lumbar on order and now I’m going to switch it to digital knit.
Did it workout for you?
Mine came from Amazon today, and nothing works on it. No verical adjustment or tilt/recline. Am i missing something?

Good points all.
Is the lumbar support easily removable?
Unfortunately, no, as it is built into the back of the chair. That's why haworth offer you to try it for 30 days and free return shipping.
