I miss regular pumps: stable, not so high, and great for all-day corporate wear. Balancing on stiletto heels is like balancing on a pencil. However, they do make great weapons in a pinch. I guess, it evolved for security purposes. 🤷🏻♀️
Didn't know that bit about the origin of the word Sabotage. That's very cool actually. A french peasant gets mad at a machine, next thing you know my favorite Beastie Boys song is written.
There's no such thing as a non-pointy shoe anymore... somewhere along the line someone forgot feet are vaguely triangular, and now everyone has bunions (I am 100% serious)
Wooden shoes look so uncomfortable. Getting them off and on must have been a nightmare, since you can't stretch wood to make room. Plus, wood tends to change shape over time due to humidity.
I miss my Vibrams, they were the only shoe I've ever bought that fit, and when your someone like me that has to not wear shoes a lot since none fit my feet then finding a shoe that fits is the best thing in the world, and I mean this instead of going to a pediatrist and it ends up costing you 1K for a pair of shoes. I wish I could find a place that sells them again, you have to try them on since each model fits so different. So online it's hard to know what size is going to fit.
I am watching more and more of these videos and the more I listen the more I keep thinking to myself that all of these stories are being told to me by BMO.

I have watches couple of your video, didn't looked at subs and I thought you must be some millions subs channel. Im very surprise that there only 3k views but with this quality I believe your channel will grow fast.♡
Honestly don't know how you dont have more subs or views, your content is entertaining, funny, edited nicely, well researched. Keep going at it im sure your channel will grow quickly
I'm glad you like them! I've recently gotten a few comments that want sources, and I think I'll just start putting them in descriptions. it's mostly university articles. but for this video, I literally got 50% of the info from shoe brands' websites :~)
.... Every time I see or hear her say Michael, I immediately to into high alert... because 99% of the time I'm in trouble if someone uses my name as "Michael"...
Watched a video more or less "by accident" and now i'm hooked I think you should've made about 25$ since this video dropped which is pretty good in my opinion
Converse are the most fun looking shoe (and among the easiest rubber sole shoes to draw which I love them for) but also among the least comfortable footwear on the planet, at least if you have sorta wide, sorta flat feet. Doesn't stop me from owning a pair but I only wear them when I know I probably won't have to walk a lot XD
The next step was the interior of the shoe with different insides for people who Over or under pronate. It actually stops a lot of injuries and helps people to recover. Also we developed shoes for the water, shoes for space too!
I never understood expensive shoes, they just need to look plain and be comfy. My dad bought me some Jordans for Christmas once. They hurt my feet. So I just kinda kept on the shoe rack never to see the outdoors anymore since my $25 sketchers are all I need. Also pointy shoes got really crazy in Mexico around the early 2010’s
The first shoe EVER was the piece that stuck to the sole of some person walking without shoes. But I am also certain that we will never find the intentional first shoe because it could be just about anything that's flat and big enough for a foot to stand on. I was going to go with something wrapped around the foot, like a leaf, but really a piece of bark of a tree could just as easily be it.
The irony is that the best shoes is what is practically just beavers on our feet. The ideal material for making the best shoe literally has to be grown. Dead animal skin is like a zombie, it doesnt rot and is durable in most situations but just not rare situations. Most people who are not wearing practically beavers on their feet are most likely boot licking their corporate overlord.
That Freud fella was awful strange, poops, "You wear pointy shoes cause you fancy your Mother, you fancy MY Mother(can I watch?)" NO Freud ya feckin' weirdo!, also slightly on subject, being from cold Ireland and a martial artist from the security game, I must admit that sandals with socks make me want to start stamping on toes. Another great video in your inimitable style, thank you poopie!
My take away is Shoes have a very intricate and fascinating history. Starting off as a utilitarian necessity and then becoming a fashion accessory to distinguish social classes. Shoe classism still exists to this day due to its deep cultural history. Toes disappeared after the Roman empire became Christian for about a thousand years. And pointer shoes the better. Also the first sport shoes were made by converse.
Sandals are the oldest kind of footwear going all the way back to Paleo times. Out here in the Americas almost every tribe in the southwest had there own design of yucca sandal. You can actually tell what tribe someone belongs to in the Americas just by looking at there sandals or moccasin's.
I must mention the hochdorf prince's gold shoe swag, a pair of ornamental gold plates in his grave that were supposed to go over shoes. He also had a whole cauldron of mead!
"natural" can mean three different things. It can mean wild, the opposite of artificial. It can mean a part of creation, the opposite of supernatural. And it can mean good and wholesome, the opposite of unnatural. You pretty much always know which one someone means based on context clues, so you really shouldn't say "well, e exists outside, therefore unnatural things are actually good!" Because that's conflating different ideas. Even if the words for these two ideas are spelled and pronounced the same
1:06 the point isn’t to look nice, the point it for it too be comfy, our toes are more like right triangles while shoes think they’re semi circles, which cramp you feet 1:37 the needles in cali, imma show him a lesson
This is literally more educational about the history of an object than the show I'm currently working on about the history of objects
this comment gave me ptsd flashbacks, i scar people for a living now for a reason.

I've honestly never worn stiletto heels. I would be too powerful if I had weapon shoes.

Adorable and hilarious and informative as usual!! I've never liked pointy shoes 😒 I don't trust 'em!
you're right not to, they often result in accidental foot-binding. regular shoes do, too, but not as much
There's no such thing as a non-pointy shoe anymore... somewhere along the line someone forgot feet are vaguely triangular, and now everyone has bunions (I am 100% serious)
Wooden shoes look so uncomfortable. Getting them off and on must have been a nightmare, since you can't stretch wood to make room. Plus, wood tends to change shape over time due to humidity.
Barefoot shoes are arguably a next step. Not the, but a step. They have a shape and build that is more suited to give your feet space.
Crocs have more market share, and growing.
red flag
I don't understand why this is a controversial opinion ToT it's just so crazy to make shoes foot-shaped instead of feet shoe-shaped!
I would love a sneaker built like a barefoot shoe. Keep the padding but get rid of the weird shape
I was in the top 0.1% of Sabaton listeners at some point! Felt nice. Cheers to your successes!

Shoes are interesting in terms of history, but they continue to have the wrong toe shape that is not comfortable
