My point being that you don't need to be a good designer or athlete to sell shoes. Kanye's Yeezy line sucks balls and is unoriginal yet he became a 'billionaire' with it.
Tinker came up with ORIGINAL & TIMELESS designs and he made Jordan and Nike what they are today. Most kids growing after 2000 who buy shoes have never seen Michael play and only know him because of his signature shoes designed by Tinker.

You have no idea what he's worth. No one does but him and his family. Googling someone's net worth and thinking your getting an accurate number is pretty funny. This is the internet. That number is meaningless. He's been with Nike for so long his stock ownership by now would be huge. I don't think Google told you how much Nike stock he owns did it? People are so naive it's funny.

I never tire myself watching this repeatedly. And I cannot thank this guy enough.
Up until this year, I grew up wanting to become an artist but my dad wanted me to become an engineer. My dad was also the very athletic type, and I grew up not being interested in sports. At the time, I didn't think there was a person who was both an athlete and artist at the same time until I read up Tinker Hatfield's story and his designwork with Nike over the years. As someone working towards a BA in Arts at my local university here in Tulsa at ORU and a runner for life, from the bottom of my heart:
Thank you for still being around to teach young guys like me who strive to become problem-solvers around the world.
I hope to meet you someday, Tinker.

There are just so many products out there with seemingly zero understanding or care factor for good design so its refreshing to see a story about someone who does care about it. I just built a truck out to be what most would describe as a motor home but to me it is more of a life support system on wheels that I had to build mostly by hand because so much of what I could buy off the shelf was complete junk or overpriced mostly junk.....Nice to Netflicks lifting its game with some quality content like this episode and their recent nature doco's.

Great job from a kid at 12 in the '90s. All I wanted was Nike my mother could not afford them. At 13 I started hustling, cutting grass, buying my own shoes and reeboks were the cheapest option but I could get away with it not being generic. I'm 40 now and all I wear is Air Force ones and Jordan ones. Nike is my favorite shoe. I order something twice a month. Clothes and shoes. My closet is full of Nike sweat suits and shorts also wear different shoes to work like Air Max. Great job!

@@atrainjr7754 Thanks I admittedly didn't know abt the Tinker 3's. however whilst I would agree that he would be getting paid in that regard, I was more talking abt some of the general designs he did. Most designers are employed to make the designs, therefor like I said they don't maintain any rights to the designs, this would be the case for most (or maybe only a few) of Tink's designs. In your example that is more of a collaboration of Nike and Tink (as a brand), so in that case i would definitely agree that he would be getting some sort of royalties or something similar.

Nike should get down on their knees and thank Jordan's mom, Deloris. She was the one who convinced Michael to give Nike the time of day. He wanted to go to Adidas, not Nike, and if not for his parents' intervention, Tinker's work would've been for nothing.

Never knew the Nike/Jordan back story though, but thank you Tinker (and MJ) for your amazing, boundary pushing and creative 'tinkering' that has given us so many epic shoes.
