      Glad to see you use nylon and not fluoro too...
      Everybody around me goes crazy for fluoro, I'm trying to explain there is no reason to waste money on it, but they don't get it.
      Maybe you may explain why you use nylon in one of your tutorials, or maybe you did already, if so pls poste a link...
      Like always great vid! Thx

    I have been following your channel in the last 2 years, You put a lot of effort to entertaint your subscribers, but you only got almost 200k subcribers, Jon B channel has more than 1M subscribers, with boring bass fishing all the time except when he went to the sea.
    You deserved more mate!!!
    If you are planning to visit Indonesia please let me know. I will bring you to my secret spot of huge GT in north celebes.

    Great content as always!
    We tested literally thousands of knots on a testing machine at our shop.
    We were building IGFA qualified leaders for tournament anglers targeting billfish and fly fishermen in pursuit of salmon in Norway ...$5000.00 per week in the eighties.
    Suffice it to say our terminal rigs had to be bomb proof.
    One thing we learned for sure:
    ALWAYS lube the knot. Spit works great. Depending on the leader material you lose up to 15% breaking strain if you tie it dry. If the knot can slip it becomes a weak link.
    The other great sin of course is crossing loops. It effectively creates an over hand knot and you can lose 50% of breaking strain.
    Four loops is plenty on thick stuff above 20kg. Theoretically five is optimum but that presumes a perfectly snugged knot. Getting that tight with five loops is a chore. I does gain 5% if perfect but if you do the math on a shock leader it means nothing. If it slips you may lose as much as 20%. I use four. God bless the dude using six!
    Cheers!

    • @comeatmebro3229
      @comeatmebro3229 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yeah tying dry weakens line, the heat from the friction of the knot weakens and frays your line so wetting your line is pretty important

    • @fuckthatcrapnameshit
      @fuckthatcrapnameshit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Great Post! I wanna add: Everytime you burn a knob to the end of the line, do it under cold water with just the tip reaching out of the water. Nylon can be damaged in the core by great heat, the water cools it, while you burn the knob

  • @jeffffro7674
    @jeffffro7674 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Good to see you posting again brother! Those knots are pretty darn PERFECT!!!!
    I've been spinning for almost 40 years, been woodworking for about 25 now. I found woodworking because of my LOVE!!!!!!! for the pure untamed beauty of some woods!! You're totally right about the Red Tank, that guy is gorgeous! The grain on that lure is near perfect and incredibly beautiful! I see what you mean about it looking like the markings on a fish too.
    I don't have any clue why I haven't had a single thought about combining the two big passions in my life until this year! It's far past time for me to start creating works of art to tempt the fishy fishes into an unavoidable urge to snatch it as soon as they spot it! MorningTide has brought me huge amounts of joy and more than that, have taken me back to the water world that has been forsaken for years while I've been in the workshop learning the next craft in my life!!! For that I'm very grateful! This, of course means, YOU! and CAVY and BROOKSY are all going to be mailed a variety of lures, all made from some of the more impressive bits and bobs that I've pulled from use throughout the years because I felt they were too pretty to be turned into something for some rich people to use as a status symbol to try and make their friends jealous!
    I've been watching a lot of how-to lure making vids and I think I'm ready to make some now. This post in particular helped me as well, not only is the fish pulling rather hard on the lures tie point, but YOU are pulling even harder on it before it ever reaches the water!!!! The force you put on it with the 220 knot demo was outrageous! This has made me understand how important it really is to make sure the wire is put in the lure in such a way that it CANNOT be pulled out! I would be devastated if you lost a fish or a lure I made because my construction method failed!!
    Also I've been playing music for 40 + years, since I was 4 y.o.! I particularly love the post where you go into extreme detail showing the process of making the soundtracks for some of the vids!!!! VERY IMPRESSIVE my friend, VERY IMPRESSIVE INDEED!!! I actually recognized your music when I was watching some vids from the German boys of Heftig Fishing, blew them away that I commented asking if it was you! HAHAHA! That's pretty awesome though, you've created an original sound to the point that I was able to know right away who I was listening to!! That's frickin cool!!! Pretty rare also, bravo brother, bravo!
    If you have any size preferences for lures, let me know, I've got a good idea cause you guys always make a point of explaining your gear very well. Types also, floating, sinking, action, colors, whatever! I've got so much I can accommodate pretty much any requests! This is exciting! Best of all, distraction from this ridiculous monster called Corvid! Gonna start immediately! 👏👏👏👏👏🤙🤙

    • @Briggsy
      @Briggsy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Frothing mate! Would love to throw one of your lures! Thanks for showing so much support I really appreciate it, you and a few other regulars always have something positive to say on our films, it's part of what helps keep us making them! Let us know when you make some lures, I''ll throw any size but i reckon either a big Popper for GT around 120g-140g or a smaller 40g-60g sinking stickbait would be sick!

    • @jeffffro7674
      @jeffffro7674 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Briggsy can do! I've never had the chance to do any ocean fishing, I remember the 1st time you guys took cameras into Fish Head and showed some of the monster lures for GT! The fish in the ocean are so much more psycho than any freshwater fish, its pretty hilarious when you pull one out that seriously tried to eat a lure that's only a couple mils smaller than he is!!! What are you thinking little one??? Did this lure do something to just infuriate you? HAHA!
      Sometimes the vids are so good it's hard NOT to comment! On my side of things it's fun to watch the numbers go up and up! When I subscribed to all the channels, you guys were around 45-50K, I try my best to spread word to everyone I know too, I like that all you guys don't fall into the same you tube behavior, seems like so many act the same, talk the same, try to imitate the high number people's content, it makes for boring vids no matter what the content is! You guys are unique, to me that makes things a thousand times better! Doesn't hurt you guys are fun to watch too! I know how genuine you are from certain posts, with so many sheeple around the world, it's nice to find folks who understand life! Your explanations of why you spin hooked me for good. It IS fulfilling a primal need of a top species to compete with others for food, or to find ways to stay a part of the natural world instead of being in cubicles!!! The way humans do stuff is taking us further and further from who and what we are! And now it's the only thing they talk about, "social distancing" that is scaring me to death!!!!!! We're already too cut off from each other, so when they're focused on making that even worse, it makes me want to freak out! If we make everything we do a way to remove contact and closeness to each other, its gonna lead to a very cold and dark place that I want NO part of! I got the worst chill through my entire body the 1st time I heard the term "social distancing" cause I just KNEW it was now a DAILY part of my life and that SUCKS!!!!! I'm totally happy to make lures for you guys cause it makes connections with other humans which are desperately needed right now! I WILL FIGHT "SOCIAL DISTANCING" TIL MY LAST BREATH!!!!

    To derisk the hook sitch I recommend using an another lure without hooks to tie the knot onto, and then switch the swivel over to your new lure. Also when pulling the knot tight I like to wrap the main line around a piece of short and thick (hand-size) dowel. Just wrap the the main line around the towel a few times and pull. That dowel is also useful for breaking off a snag (same technique). I keep it on a keyring attached to my pants. The advantage of using dowel is that when it falls in the water it floats.

    Great videos mate and learnt lots from these. I am only just a beginner and never had anyone to teach me so these sorts of videos are invaluable.
    Just a question in regards to the uni knot on soft plastics will that particular knot slide down the loop under tension? Or will it sit where it is to allow the soft plastic movement.

    Hey mate, instead of gripping onto the lure, try getting a large or regular sized keyring. Attach the split ring onto the keyring and use the keyring to pull the shit out of the knot. No risk of stabby stabby. I like to use a keyring to twist my line to quickly tie uni knots onto my fastach clips.
    Nice variation on the uni knot, keep it up!

    The nail knot is a cleaner and stronger connection for a single pass through IMO. You can tie 400 lb mono easy with with it as well. The AG chain knot overall Is the strongest knot for stick baiting to absorb shock and protect the mono because it uses a double pass through 🤙

    Hi Briggsy, You have been using Zenaq rods for a long time... So, I have a question about RG Guide Model, eg. for rod: Zenaq Defi Muthos Sonio 100M is there really a difference between K and RG Guide Model in terms of casting distans assuming that the most lures I will use between 40-60g? Does it make sense to buy the RG model, do I really gain from this in terms of the length of the cast? Thanks in advance this will be very helpful to me.

      @Briggsy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mate, under pressure the FG slides (thumps) into the guides without to much fuss and I always cast my FG through the guides, prolly have about 1.5-2m of leader in the guides when casting. FG jams in the rod tip if ur mono tag is too long, when I finish it i try and make sure it's as close as possible to the knot and doesn't stick out too much. Longer FG's with more wraps prolly get stuck easier as well but 20 for heavy and 26 wraps for medium/light i don't get that problem.

    Nice vid, learn alot from your vids. Just wondering tho, how long is the connection between your leader to your mainline so it can cast far and avoid those nasty wind knots!?

    • @Briggsy
      @Briggsy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mate, no matter my setup I try to make sure my leader knot sits on my first guid when casting. For my heavy setup with around 8’0 long stick leader would be around 3.5m long (I dangle the lure pretty low with heavy setup), light setup maybe only 2.0m-2.5m because shorter rod and less dangle when casting. Medium Setup somewhere in between depending on rod length 👍

    why dont you take the hooks off when pulling the leader tight on the lure? takes a few seconds but surely will one day safe your fingers!

      Also if you tie the knot while u have a little warm water running on the knot, it sits very well.

    Hi Briggsy,
    What kind of swivel and what size swivel should I use for a 50mm popper? I am an amateur from down in vic and your really helpin me out! Keep it up!

    • @Briggsy
      @Briggsy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mate, it's good to use swivels on everything except plastics, even tiny little lures. The reason is it adds freedom to the lure but also every time you crank line back onto your reel the line roller/bail arm/way the line lays ads a tiny bit of line twist and over many hours fishing you can get noticeable/bad line twist. I use NT swivels in general but not sure if you can get em small enough for the lure you're talking about, if not look for "crane swivels" (pretty sure that's what they're called) in a different brand.

    • @Briggsy

      Hi Mate, it still slips for me from time to time but I just hold real tight on the loop and cinch it down to my fingers (try to get it to lock in place a bit). Prolly best to learn and tie a proper loop knot if you're hardcore about your plastics fishing!

    Hi Briggsy, when i fish my lures trolling behind the boat i leave the splitrings and the swivels of and connect the lure directly to the leader with a Rapala-knot. I also use it whilst casting with poppers and topwater lures. Works fine and benifits to the action of the lure. For al the rest i also use the uni-knot. Greetings, Frank PS Keep up the good work with those vids.
