@Private Even just one accidental dude can't explain that. The timing is WAY to precise. Even if you know vaguely what to do, it is super hard to actually do. There are similar glitchies tied to framerate and I guess people just tried to find glicthes that way.
It's way more scary for a final boss than like the first boss in the game. The first boss is just thinking "hey another idiot trying to kill me". but if you're the final boss, a literal god who knows all the obstacles in the way, and they see some naked dude with an axe, they've got to be shitting their pants.
You can become Elden Lord without fighting the first Margit. No glitches needed, just don't got to Stormveil. Beat at least two of Radahn, Rennala and Rykard
Indeed - there was also a video I watched of a guy who got all achievements in Resident Evil 2 Remastered and refunded the game within 2 hours. Quite the challenge!
For anyone who thinks Dist's time was that fast simply because of glitches and exploits, you likely wouldn't feel that way if they saw the man routing, practicing, and optimizing the hell out of each segment. A Speed run is the culmination of that practice, and runs like these should always be celebrated. Also, Dist is insane and pretty much not human.

I find that ax thing funny, because within 10 hours of playing, I found that ice stomp ash of war and a different ax from Stormville and combined them, not knowing there was literally a weapon that was basically identical sitting in the middle of the lake
I found the axe on my first playthrough on accident then found the ash of war on my last playthrough and I hit the scarab beetle on accident or rather I didn't know I would hit it without any effort where as I usually run around with horse for a bit or just use a dragon breath attack wich is the easiest way for the invisible ones.

@@mirkoruhl9324 Blocking while moving around in various directions quickly can trigger the physic engine to basically catapult you. Exact computing mechanics of it is not yet known (that i know) but it can be performed more easily and consistently at some lower frame rates.

You don't watch it for the same reason you watch Asmon play the game, you watch it to see the stuff speedrunners figured out and see it get faster and faster. It takes an incredible amount of practice and group effort figuring things out to make it possible and then it's a ridiculous grind for one person to actually get a run this good. Obviously it's not for everyone but it's interesting to see what limits a game can be pushed to using only what the game has to offer.

If you want someone to do a speed run with all of the games content that’s called a 100% speed run, if you want them to do it without glitches that’s called glitchless, and what this guy is running is very specifically any% speed run with glitches allowed, where he is only competing with other people doing the same thing. There is a different kind of mastery to performing this many ridiculously technical inputs in a row for 20 min to skip the game like this.

I was messing around, and idk if this would help speed runners, but I teleported to Margot (capital fight) and noticed I didn’t have the right sword to test, I left his fight, and when I loaded in, it turned into the Ash capital and Godfrey was behind the door instead. Didn’t have to kill Maliketh. Idk if I can re create it or not. Havnt tried

Dist2 is an absolute legend. The amount of effort and dedication he puts in to get his runs is nothing short of amazing. Dunno why chat was getting so worked up...There's multiple categories of speedrunning and this is one of them.
It didn't take long for speedrunners to completely abuse that game too. xD I'm always amazed at the way they're able to discover and take advantage of glitches.
All the hate is coming from people who don't follow speedrunning. Dist CRUSHES any% speedruns and has been doing that for YEARS on multiple different games. He also does all bosses/all remembrances style speedruns and is top tier at those as well. Glitch exploitation has literally always been a part of speedrunning...people who disparage it genuinely don't understand what speedrunning is about. Dist is a legend.
It doesn't help that the "Souls" community and the speedrunning community don't mesh well either. Lots of souls players carry this ridiculous notion that you have to do everything in the most difficult way possible for anything to be "impressive", i.e slamming your face into a wall with nothing but a big sword for hours on end. That's why mage players are generally looked down upon by "souls" players, even though it's something that's literally put in the game for you to use. It's just toxicity, they don't see the hours upon hours of routing, practicing, and blood sweat and tears that Dist has put into being the best.
Yeah but in a game where the difficulty lies with beating bosses, is a small reason why ppl won't respect glitching and zipping, and i kinda agree :) Speedrunning should be the art of finishing the game as quick as you can, without glitching the game(doing it as intended with whatever the game has) just find normal routes and do it quick, use what build you want i don't care, but not fighting anything and then glitching some bosses to not even move..i mean, you gotta be a specific type of person to like that shit, and there's not many of them :) Which is also why no hitters get respect in these games and speedrunners don't, because they are avoiding to play the harder parts of the game, i very well aware how difficult it is to do the glitches and exploits, but at the same time, it's really not enjoyable to watch like more than one time outta curiosity, personally i find it 10 times more difficult doing a no hit run (all remembrances) than doing a speed run of all remembarance or especially any% But hey! whatever everyone enjoys, not judging, my personal opinion is that speedrunners are overrated.

@@vilopesful Well from the ppl complaining i'd say it's not as popular as you might think at least in Soulsborne where the actual "Hard" goal is to not get hit and finish the games, not do everything you can to avoid doing the hard parts of the game and glitch everything. It's funny when people complain about Any%. Like this is what it is, there are other categories. And personally I prefer to watch the other categories or glitchless, but an Any% is fine sometimes too just to see runners squeeze through the cracks in the duct tape holding the game together. :)

Asmon, if you want some explanation on those damage numbers I can explain what all happened for him to melt bosses that quick First thing, level 1 is actually totally viable, because a vast majority of damage comes from the level of your WEAPON, not your own level. Anyone with a +10 weapon will deal more damage than anyone at RL700 without weapon upgrades. In fact, damage scaling is so low in this game I would argue it's basically useless to invest in offensive stats until you already have 60VGR. The Icerine hatchet's Hoarfrost Stomp skill had the overall highest DPS of any skill in the game (nerfed in 1.03) which is pretty nutty by itself, but the trick to it's damage doesn't end there The other weapon he was using was a Godskin Stitcher with an Ash of War called Royal Knight's Resolve, which gives an 80% damage buff to your weapon until you attack with it (or lasts 8s). However, prior to 1.03 it was bugged to actually increase ALL your damage by 80%, not just that weapon, yet the buff still didn't go away when you attacked with a different weapon, making it by far the strongest single buff in the game, so that 80% buff was also applying to Hoarfrost Stomp the entire time through Maliketh and the final boss. Now this ash of war can be applied to any weapon, but the reason for Stitcher in particular is because in the run, you don't match the requirements to use it, which for some reason doesn't stop Royal Knight's Resolve from activating but it DOES make it cost no FP to use, so he actually saves a bit of FP using it this way So basically, he had a maxed out weapon dealing the highest DPS that was then boosted by an additional 80%, which is why the bosses died that fast. Though both of these skills were fixed after 1.03, there's still something important to learn here. Your build itself (the weapon, it's upgrades, your buffs, etc) will always ALWAYS be much more important than your level alone, and this lesson applies to EVERY build in the game
For people here in the comment section disparaging Distortion's "SPEED RUN" it's called any% for a reason! You aren't allowed to use mods/ external programs etc. Only use what the game has, be it glitches or OP weapons. Your aim is the fastest time possible to clear the game. Is it a valid speedrun? yes. Is he cheating? In speedrun definitions, No. Is he a skilled gamer? Watch him beat Malenia lvl 1 no clothes with only parry and dodges. watch?v=649x7gTYWwo

I've never seen them exit the game to reset enemies. They exit the game to save time on the door animations. If they're speedrunning they aren't worried about enemies chasing them.

Usually speedrunning has multiple categories. The three most prominent are: Unrestricted, which means that any glitch or skip works, so long as you beat the game. Standard Glitchless, which means that you can use skips, but not glitches. The only thing required is that you beat the typical required Bosses without using glitches. Standard All Bosses, where you have to fight all of the major bosses, whether they are mandatory or not. Depending on the game, this could also be split into Unrestricted and Glitchless.
If a speedrun isn't Glitchless + All bosses it's horseshit, I'm sure these guys are popular amongst the 30 or so people in their sweaty community, but it isn't impressive whatsoever.
He also has held WRs for all boss runs on other souls games so you can quit your bitchin, this is just the any % speed run category. It shouldn’t come as a shock to say that the guys that know the game enough to do all these weird ass glitches are the same guys that can knock out every boss legit in the same time it takes you to beat a single end game boss.
@Astrothunder_ you make no fucking sense, the Olympics is coming up this summer, it would be completely uninteresting to see a million categories get made up to allow athletes to cheat in whatever way they see fit, the only records that matter are the clean, legit ones. I've been watching on and off Distortion2 since that amazing DS2 Broken% in 16:20, (2014) easily the best soulsborne speedrun I've watched in my life. Dist is an absolute GOD, he has run a million games and gets at least one WR on each and every one of them.

During the Maliketh fight he was also using the glitch which made it so that royal knights resolve boosted any and all things damage, including other ashes of war, in this case, an 80 percent increase to hoarfroast stomp.
I'm glad asmon knows more about how speedruns work now, so instead of being impressed by the fact that he runs past bad guys like with DS1, he can be impressed by the guy teleporting halfway through the map like the rest of us

The zip glitch technically disqualifies it from the pure Any% run. But it is allowed in their "Any% unrestricted" leaderboard which the speedrun now resides in, probably because the advance in this tech makes it deserve its own category.
u don't have no clue about any% speed runs they grind hours of hours and learn anything what happend in the game the glitches are way harder than you think some of that needs to be pixel perfect to work.

I love these games so much, I hope they're always this broken. Block using your weapon near a rock? Oh game freaks out for no apparent reason and you get skyrocketed. At least the farum azula glitch kind of makes sense though, like you're in the area but he makes the game register that he just got there Im assuming so it just puts him in the starting part after Fire Giant.
any% means that it doesn't matter how many bosses you killed or how much of the content of the game you completed. the only goal is to get to the end of the game. It does not mean that you can use glitches tho. There is any% runs with glitches and there is any% glitchless runs. I thought asmon didn't explain this very well in his video. so I hope this makes more sense :)

You don't watch it for the same reason you watch Asmon play the game, you watch it to see the stuff speedrunners figured out and see it get faster and faster. It takes an incredible amount of practice and group effort figuring things out to make it possible and then it's a ridiculous grind for one person to actually get a run this good. Obviously it's not for everyone but it's interesting to see what limits a game can be pushed to using only what the game has to offer.

If you want someone to do a speed run with all of the games content that’s called a 100% speed run, if you want them to do it without glitches that’s called glitchless, and what this guy is running is very specifically any% speed run with glitches allowed, where he is only competing with other people doing the same thing. There is a different kind of mastery to performing this many ridiculously technical inputs in a row for 20 min to skip the game like this.
His chat are mostly people who only play WoW for their whole life, and never know what a speedrun is. Some hillarious comment I caught was something like this "He skipped what makes the game fun" Lmao. People speedrunning are not for fun, they already cleared the game hundreds of times probably.

All the hate is coming from people who don't follow speedrunning. Dist CRUSHES any% speedruns and has been doing that for YEARS on multiple different games. He also does all bosses/all remembrances style speedruns and is top tier at those as well. Glitch exploitation has literally always been a part of speedrunning...people who disparage it genuinely don't understand what speedrunning is about. Dist is a legend.
It doesn't help that the "Souls" community and the speedrunning community don't mesh well either. Lots of souls players carry this ridiculous notion that you have to do everything in the most difficult way possible for anything to be "impressive", i.e slamming your face into a wall with nothing but a big sword for hours on end. That's why mage players are generally looked down upon by "souls" players, even though it's something that's literally put in the game for you to use.
It's just toxicity, they don't see the hours upon hours of routing, practicing, and blood sweat and tears that Dist has put into being the best.
Also takes away from his achievements the guy grinded the game for 15hours and even canceld and rescheduled his flight last second

Speedrunning should be the art of finishing the game as quick as you can, without glitching the game(doing it as intended with whatever the game has) just find normal routes and do it quick, use what build you want i don't care, but not fighting anything and then glitching some bosses to not even move..i mean, you gotta be a specific type of person to like that shit, and there's not many of them :)
Which is also why no hitters get respect in these games and speedrunners don't, because they are avoiding to play the harder parts of the game, i very well aware how difficult it is to do the glitches and exploits, but at the same time, it's really not enjoyable to watch like more than one time outta curiosity, personally i find it 10 times more difficult doing a no hit run (all remembrances) than doing a speed run of all remembarance or especially any%

While not as popular, there's always the glitchless runs if that's what you like, you can always search for it, as most games have it.
@@vilopesful Well from the ppl complaining i'd say it's not as popular as you might think at least in Soulsborne where the actual "Hard" goal is to not get hit and finish the games, not do everything you can to avoid doing the hard parts of the game and glitch everything.
As i said, i'm certain any% is popular with other games, but it leaves a sour taste because these games revolve around beating difficult bosses and/or areas, not skipping them or freezing the boss while spamming hoarfrost stomp :P but that's just my opinion.
I personally enjoyed distortion's all remembrances speed run a WHOLE LOT more than i do any% runs :) i know they have less views, but you are comparing an almost 2 hour video with a 20min one, ofcourse the 20min one is gonna be easier to watch and not so time consuming, but that doesn't mean it's less popular.

It's funny when people complain about Any%. Like this is what it is, there are other categories. And personally I prefer to watch the other categories or glitchless, but an Any% is fine sometimes too just to see runners squeeze through the cracks in the duct tape holding the game together. :)

"How fast can you beat a game" is an obvious question on peoples minds. "How fast can you beat a game with chatter 5003's rules for what is ethical, Fox only Final Destination", is not. Also note the 70 hour savefile Dist has, he took his time playing through the game normally too.

Asmon, if you want some explanation on those damage numbers I can explain what all happened for him to melt bosses that quick
First thing, level 1 is actually totally viable, because a vast majority of damage comes from the level of your WEAPON, not your own level. Anyone with a +10 weapon will deal more damage than anyone at RL700 without weapon upgrades. In fact, damage scaling is so low in this game I would argue it's basically useless to invest in offensive stats until you already have 60VGR.
The Icerine hatchet's Hoarfrost Stomp skill had the overall highest DPS of any skill in the game (nerfed in 1.03) which is pretty nutty by itself, but the trick to it's damage doesn't end there
The other weapon he was using was a Godskin Stitcher with an Ash of War called Royal Knight's Resolve, which gives an 80% damage buff to your weapon until you attack with it (or lasts 8s). However, prior to 1.03 it was bugged to actually increase ALL your damage by 80%, not just that weapon, yet the buff still didn't go away when you attacked with a different weapon, making it by far the strongest single buff in the game, so that 80% buff was also applying to Hoarfrost Stomp the entire time through Maliketh and the final boss. Now this ash of war can be applied to any weapon, but the reason for Stitcher in particular is because in the run, you don't match the requirements to use it, which for some reason doesn't stop Royal Knight's Resolve from activating but it DOES make it cost no FP to use, so he actually saves a bit of FP using it this way
So basically, he had a maxed out weapon dealing the highest DPS that was then boosted by an additional 80%, which is why the bosses died that fast. Though both of these skills were fixed after 1.03, there's still something important to learn here. Your build itself (the weapon, it's upgrades, your buffs, etc) will always ALWAYS be much more important than your level alone, and this lesson applies to EVERY build in the game

Yeah I agree but atleast when it comes to speedruns there are different sections.
Usually speedrunning has multiple categories. The three most prominent are:
Unrestricted, which means that any glitch or skip works, so long as you beat the game.
Standard Glitchless, which means that you can use skips, but not glitches. The only thing required is that you beat the typical required Bosses without using glitches.
Standard All Bosses, where you have to fight all of the major bosses, whether they are mandatory or not. Depending on the game, this could also be split into Unrestricted and Glitchless.
If a speedrun isn't Glitchless + All bosses it's horseshit, I'm sure these guys are popular amongst the 30 or so people in their sweaty community, but it isn't impressive whatsoever.
He also has held WRs for all boss runs on other souls games so you can quit your bitchin, this is just the any % speed run category. It shouldn’t come as a shock to say that the guys that know the game enough to do all these weird ass glitches are the same guys that can knock out every boss legit in the same time it takes you to beat a single end game boss.

I've been watching on and off Distortion2 since that amazing DS2 Broken% in 16:20, (2014) easily the best soulsborne speedrun I've watched in my life. Dist is an absolute GOD, he has run a million games and gets at least one WR on each and every one of them.

Is it still a legitimate challenge if you're exploiting glitches? Might be the only way to keep it this short, but feels like the spirit of speedrun is about outsmarting the game and precision, but this is more like gta cheat code😂
During the Maliketh fight he was also using the glitch which made it so that royal knights resolve boosted any and all things damage, including other ashes of war, in this case, an 80 percent increase to hoarfroast stomp.
also, I know I'm a year late but like wasn't there a bug with royal knights resolve where the 80% bonus would stick even after the first hit?
I finished my first game at 120hrs, these guys are amazing for finding these glitches.
I'm glad asmon knows more about how speedruns work now, so instead of being impressed by the fact that he runs past bad guys like with DS1, he can be impressed by the guy teleporting halfway through the map like the rest of us

Such speedruns as this aint even that much fun to watch. Hes not showing any skill in exactly gameplay fighting bosses or alike. Just gliching trough the whole game.
90% of the comment section have never heard of Any% speedruns, or even literally any other speedrun category in existence aside from a normal playthrough.
I see some of the dumb people in chat that saying this should not count because of the glitch. Its a freaking any% speed run so anything is fair game with glitches.
The zip glitch technically disqualifies it from the pure Any% run. But it is allowed in their "Any% unrestricted" leaderboard which the speedrun now resides in, probably because the advance in this tech makes it deserve its own category.

any% means that it doesn't matter how many bosses you killed or how much of the content of the game you completed. the only goal is to get to the end of the game. It does not mean that you can use glitches tho. There is any% runs with glitches and there is any% glitchless runs. I thought asmon didn't explain this very well in his video. so I hope this makes more sense :)
