I watched this live, amazing run and all but I was confused with one detail: The route involves purchasing a shortbow next to Bellum Church for the shortbow moveset with jump shots etc, with the goal of an easier time sleeping Godskin Duo. But the route also literally walks over the Black Bow @35:55 so why not just pick that up instead? Looked to me that the initial long bow was good enough for everything other than Duo and the build does have the stats for black bow.
so usually the faster route is another skip after the erdtree avatar on leyndell and the lion that goes into coloseum's broken bridge, it's really sketchy and it has a very little time to do a quit out if you failed the jump. So Blanxz using the old safer route because I believe he just want to minimize quit outs as little as he can... and of course he on't pick up the black bow. So yeah it's kinda 2 route options merged into one
Might be for marathon safety? They mentioned a route that skips the merchant but that it’s riskier; maybe in that one they skip the merchant’s extra rune arc and use the black bow instead? Alternatively, they say that they bring the duo to exactly 1 HP before each crit. If it’s really that precise then black bow being 5 base damage stronger would do too much damage and miss the crit opportunity
You're all mostly correct. It's two routes merged into one. The risky route buys the composite bow, while the safer route would grab the black bow. Blanxz usually does the risky route in his own runs and is comfortable using the compound bow, but did the safe route for the marathon. So he picked up his comfortable bow, but walked the safe route, for the ultimate in comfort and safety with only a few seconds of time loss.
The deliberate trade on Maliketh is absolutely ridiculous 01:03:35 EDIT: Not that I would ever be able to do any of this but can someone explain the crouch shortly after when he goes into phase 2?
To just beat Elden Ring on my first playthrough after around 140 hours, this was very strange to watch days later. Aside from Malenia, I had a pretty painless time doing my playthrough without summons. This is truly next level skill though.
In several years of watching GDQ videos, Brutal Melo is the best host I've ever seen, but dear lord, that Bane impression was painful. Especially when the other impressions were so damn good haha. And Mitchriz is an absolutely natural commentator.
Man I really wanna play co-op with this guys they seem really cool and supportive. I just started playing a couples of months ago and this game is not for the weak. 😂

It's the Small Golden Effigy item used for multiplayer. It will keep appearing at most Stakes of Marika if you never grab it from the very fist stake you encounter in the game. It just keeps appearing during the speedrun because they never pick it up at the start of the game.
thats not the stake of marika thats the summoning pool, all summoning pools have that item on them until you activate one summoning pool, most ppl probably pick up the one near varre at the beginning so you never see those items on other summoning pools, but if you never activate any pools then all of them will have that shiny on them
I have a question, how the hell is he doing so much damage with so little? I also started samurai as my first character, and he seems to be doing triple my damage 20 minutes in lol.

Black Bow has the longbow moveset. So it wouldnt have the fast jump shots they want for the Duo. That's my guess anyway.

The bow is used for proccing status, not damage, and Black Bow does that worse
