- In this video I decide to give Watchtower a helping hand by spreading the word about a grave threat to young people that destroys friendships - the scourge of emojis. Thankfully, a JW.org worksheet, aimed at Jehovah's Witness youths, has come to the rescue.

Love the deadpan and sarcastic wit! I walked away from religion (JW) decades ago and never looked back. Im a "Hitchens style", Anti-theist for about 10 yrs now. My family is still in but they never actually shunned me. I think there's a lot of that ...compromising....going on under the table.
But from what I can tell from my frequent debates and research, it sounds like the "new light" is just as bizarre as the ass-backward policies flung to the masses in the 70s and 80s.

I left the faith 16 years ago; we didn't have worksheets and emoji's were a fairly new thing. But boy, did I hear about flirting being bad. "Leading someone on." "Giving the wrong message." "Flirting = bad."
No wonder I 1) can't flirt and 2) am overly worried about ANY interactions I have with men, in case I get misunderstood as having said or done something inappropriate. For crying out loud, *2 hours ago* I returned lawn chair that we'd borrowed to next door, and as I walked back to my house, I wondered if I said anything wrong, and if I should have worn something more covering than my normal home clothes, since it was the man of the house that I talked to there. 🤦♀
Emojis didn't exist when I was there. A young elder offered me a lift to the Kingdom Hall with my 2 young children since I didn't drive. I had to squeeze in the back between 2 car seats when there was a comfy seat free in the front, just so we didn't get accused of flirting. I felt like saying "Its OK, I won't touch your leg while your driving. I know I am worldly, but I am spiritually mature enough not to do that now." He said people might gossip at the Hall if they saw us in the front together. They already were talking as I did talk to him more than the other elders about issues I was concerned about. This of course is construed as flirting.

You had me cracking up! Seriously, though, they would have been better off directing this worksheet towards married JW's who might get in trouble for flirting with friends. I've known a few who have gotten been called in for this type of behavior. For young people, it has to sexually repress them to be told that they're not allowed to flirt. They're forcing them to cut out all the natural steps (such as flirting and dating to see who you like) that lead up to marriage. Lately, we've heard that they're not even allowing crushes (the biggest part of a teen's life)! All of these romantic instincts are there for a reason. It's just like when a little girl plays with baby dolls. She has motherly instincts that she wants to practice using. When nature's instincts are repressed, they often come out in other far more destructive ways.

I am so late to this video. But while I find it hilarious, it is also quite sad. As a Teen I had severe anxiety and crippling depression. Not one article has ever pushed Self-Love, Self-preservation or Self Esteem. Instead, all I got were out of date "Young People Ask" examples, that were so cartoonish in their illustrations, they only made me more depressed.
This, is a whole new low. There are actual problems Young Ones are facing in the Organization, yet, like always then "Older Men" would rather busy the children.
