@@hustonmices3976 I went to college and my belief in a "prime mover" didn't change, it made my belief stronger. You have to accept that the earth isn't 6000 years old and is round of course so some JW beliefs were obviously wrong, but in my mind back then not the "big stuff" i.e. 1914. JW's were presenting a story of a world full of happy children and who wouldn't want that? People that were abused are drawn to those stories more than most and that is why JW's prey on them. A lot of things happened post WWII and the atomic bomb was a powerful reminder that the human race could (and still) wipe itself out. Pre-internet it was difficult to research (reading of many books is wearisome to the soul) and only the rich had libraries and time to read them (i.e. russel , rutherford). God put "infinity into our hearts" and scriptures like those were presented and delivered with skill, not the Don Kotts clown show we see now. The enemy of a false profit is time and the 1914 failure shows JW's are just another offshoot that takes on adherents because they are disillusioned with the current stories. There really isn't that much difference between the JW core beliefs and the main stream religions and the differences are to exploit that they "are different" story lines (birthdays being one of them). The important thing to remember is they begin to believe their stories and the deceit of false hope and of course they love the power.

It took leaving to realise how much kindness and forgiveness resides in 'worldly' people. The toxicity I experienced within was more than enough to free the mind.
I have always told my parents this. Although they never stopped me from bein friends with worldly people. My best friends are my college friends.

I’m glad to have washed my hands of it.. although I still have 4 generations of my family in it up to their eye balls!! I haven’t heard a word from them in 26 years. Shunning can be brutal, but if it’s the only way to escape it, then so be it.

@NonCoinCollector - I tried to fade just so my kids wouldn’t lose their entire family, ( my family are full of elders, bethelites & CO’s ) I knew what was about to happen!! Worked for a few years but when my family figured out that I was NEVER going back, that shunning hammer came down fast & hard!! Looking back, I’m glad my JW family didn’t have an influence on my kids!! Turned out to be a blessing 🙏🏼
My fiance told me watching these would bring people to jehovah witness religion... i laughed because he hasn't even watched a whole episode of yours...anyway your videos are helping me so much during this current time. I am no longer close to my jw parents (by their choice) and have left the religion.

When I think of my children , my sister and her husband and their children I can't believe what he is saying . My family are wonderful people . I never thought that the governing body believes people like my family will be destroyed. You made what they are teaching personal . I consider that teaching about as evil as it gets.

I left in 1976 at 20 I've learned that since biblical time and the dark aged we all are born as subjects of religion including them selling promises that religion doesn't possess and not manifested into existence ,that's why you must believe in what life or God does not do

As a complete outsider to this debate, I find it curious that Stephen Lett talks about 'people of the world'. In my limited experience of JWs, they are very much 'people of the world' - the world of 1950s America, that is.

We would like to think how easy it is for a normal person to hear this and instantly recognize how crazy it sounds, but some of us heard this on a weekly basis and still believed it. As a matter of fact people of other religions and cults believe similar stuff just cause your brain will convince you of anything if it means you will live forever.
I grew up in the 80's and 90's long before all the tv stuff. Back then it was next to impossible to research them. I didn't start making headway until the late 90's when the internet started to become more available. Channels like this one cleared alot of cobwebs that had been there for two decades.

I totally agree I was talking to my mum the other day who left jws not long after I was disfellowshipped as she refused to shun me, if that’s the sort of attitude they have and god really is prepared to kill people just like that I don’t want no part of it. Because of this fear mindset, the whole world against us, leaving was _terrifying!_ I knew it couldn't be the truth, having disproved biblical literalism but my feelings took too long to catch up. Also, I _had_ always thought of Armageddon as rescue. A scary kind of rescue but rescue nonetheless but it was the Great Tribulation that terrified me the most.
About coming to grips with our "sinful" nature; I've found evolutionary psychology to be the most plausible and fascinating explanation for human nature. I've tried to understand why we do the things we do and I'm starting to get it!!

Narcissists always make themselves seem as if they are the victims. They spoke against religions who they took information from to use in their own literature, they say only Jehovah witness will survive armageddon. So whenever someone who was previously attacked by the watchtower speaks out or exposes them they have to make it look like they are being attacked by everyone else.
Imagine having the ability to say with a straight face that there are tens of thousands of demons fighing in the spiritual realm over you, or that assembled nations named Gog will attack just 8 million people spread out over the world.

It's not " powerful by faith" its " powerful by works". Jws are told to do many works to gain Gods approval the biggest one which is getting baptized so you will survive " Jehovahs day". Doing WORKS as a JW is first and foremost then faith comes in a distant second.

@James Patrick Well said. The concept of Satan did not exist in the primitive religion of the Israelites, YHWH was the creator of good and evil. In fact, under that worldview the rest of the "pagan" gods also existed, there are traces of polytheism in the most ancient writings of the Bible. The primitive Israelites worshiped El as the most important God among other gods, something that is covered up by the translations of the Bible.

Interesting loophole they leave, and it is a loophole that is very well used by cults for a very long time: If the promises were not fulfilled, it is your fault; you didn't have enough faith. Another example of why JW's as a group and as individuals can never ever live up to the expectations placed on them by these foolish men.
