I just received a Sony from Crutchfield and going to install in my 2007 Explorer , thank you bro from an old boy from South Carolina , your video is just what I needed .
I watched your video earlier today and then went out and changed my radio .. I had ordered an OEM from eBay .. thanks this helped me a lot .. took me all of 30 minutes
Thank You for the in-depth video, I'm going to attempt to fix the radio in a Family members Ford once he has All the required adapters to install a new radio. I really appreciate you pointing out the airbag light and the head's up on leaving it plugged in!! Thanks Again and hope you have a Great Day!!
Thanks for the video. I ordered a new radio, today, for a different reason (The volume wheel was being turned down and the volume would go up). Also ordered a USB/Line-In in place of the old Line-In that had awfully low volume through it, hopefully it fits. Remember, you should disconnect the battery to prevent the possibility of a short circuit. This will also prevent the airbag from accidentally triggering if the airbag light plug somehow pops off when removing the front bezel. You can still turn the key to engage the shifter out of the way, even without power.
Thanks for the video! I used it to remove and install my radio but then fixed the old one using tips from a different video (resolder some points powering the screen).
That extra plug may be for the steering wheel controls. When I looked it up on Crutchfield's site, it assured me that those functions would work with their harness, on my 2010.
I thought you said throw your screws up in the tree…. Somewhere up outta the way. I was just listening as I work and had to think about that one. Tray… throw the screws in the tray.. got it.👍🏼
Thank you! I needed a video on how to remove the blasted center cluster panel in my 2007 to change the heater control panel, and all the other videos had the wrong style of center cluster panel. I guess they used a 2006 model in mine! Anyways, thanks! Heck, I may just go ahead and change out the radio while I'm in there! 😁💜
If the air bag light comes on try disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes and reconnect and see if the light stays off,. Might reset the computer for you to keep it off since it's not a faulty equipment issue
I have a 2006 Mercury mountaineer that looks perfect for mine where'd you get the kit and do you have to tell them to make you the harness for the wiring for the simple plug and Play
Hey Chris, I bought everything from Crutchfield. Enter your vehicle information and you should be able to select a premade harness for your truck. It's worth the money and will save you a lot of aggravation. Here is a link to the sight: www.crutchfield.com/
Hello mr , good evening , i have an issue with that old stereo when i push the phone button it doesnt do anything , no menu or setup , i already checked the fuse box but everything was allright , thx 4 helping me
As these factory radios start to age they are known for acting up. The one I had replaced in the video stopped illuminating on the LED screen (real common issue with these). Check to see if there is some crude caked around the button preventing it from functioning properly. If there is power to the radio and it just that button that doesn't work it's more than likely just an issue with the button itself.
Hey bro I think u installed that radio bracket upside down… the little pegs that help hold it in place in the dash were on the top. The pocket should’ve been on the bottom. Doesn’t really impact anything tho
UGH..hope not..lol I looked at it a couple of times and it seemed like it was correct. The radio is very secure though. Does not move around at all. Thanks for checking out the video! We love helping people out.
I had the same sort of thing for a '97 Ranger and installed the pocket upside down on purpose to install a hands-free mic higher without cutting into the dash.
Have you noticed any issues with crackling, popping, etc? I installed a new radio a while back and I noticed every once in a while the sound pops for a split second. Not very loud or scary, but still noticeable. I don't know if there's a short in the wiring or a short in the unit...
If you don’t mind me asking what type of adapter cables you get for it and could you link them for me I just got a stereo just need the specific adapter cable for it
I have a pioneer MVH300EX and 2008 Explorer Eddie Bauer. Came stock with sync and the 6 disk mp3 player. Is there a way to connect my Pioneer to the original microphone in the rear view mirror? I'm not at all afraid to cut and splice if needed. Thanks.
The extra wire harness that you could not plug into the new stereo is for the steering wheel radio control buttons. With your new stereo, you will not be able to control it with those steering wheel buttons.
Great help, thinking about upgrading the one on my Explorer 08 myself. Just curious but did you ever figure out what that unplugged wire did? Or any issues like if the bluetooth worked and all afterwards.
So, was that wiring harness all you needed? Or did you have to use another harness for that other smaller gray plug? I found a Metra 70-5520Av harness, but wonder if its really needed or not.
I didn't need to plug anything into that third plug dangling around, the more I though about it I said to Steve I bet it was to power the taped deck in the stock head unit. This was a pretty easy radio swap...glad I did it.
@@HomeownerRepair most definitely worth it, that’s where I’ve struggled on my previous vehicles radio installations, so this will make it a breeze. Thank you man!!
Thanks for the how to vid, how ever, I hope you removed the negative battery terminal off of the negative post, because you can fry your electronics...
The L.E.D. light problem on these radios are common, and the fix is rather easy. There are diodes that just need to be quickly resoldered and itll work just fine. Been working since ive done this for 4 years now. found the fix on youtube but dont have a link atm.

Hey, It's not that bad of a job on this truck, Glad this helped you out.

I guess I need to find THAT video now! My radio has that exact problem!!

I believe you are correct!
Awesome video. Worked exactly as described and fixed my radio's problem. Thank you for making this video.
Glad it helped
Thanks for the video and the tips. Been looking to do this for my 06 Explorer. Great job.

Thanks for the added tip!
That second plug you don’t have connected would be for a factory subwoofer, mine doesnt have one but has the wiring
Thanks for chiming in!
Did your explorer have the factory sub??

Thanks for this video! Exactly what I was looking for! Did you ever find out what the other connector was for coming out of the stock radio unit?
I am pretty sure the other connection on the radio was for steering wheel volume control switched which my Ford Explorer does not have.

That plug that you left unplugged is that the plug that’s for the buttons in the steering wheel and do the steering wheel buttons still work?
I have not controls on the steering wheel so it was not needed.

I looked up my application on Crutchfield and purchased it from there.
I believe your extra harness that was not used is for steering wheel controls u can buy a seperate harness for that if you do not want to loose them
Thanks for watching
do you know if it is possible to install an apple carplay screen into a 2006 ford explorer and have it completely functional?
It is not something I have tried.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
There are multiple harnesses on the website. What one did you get?
I just matched it up to my application when checking out.
I guess that middle smaller wiring harness was for the CD player.
I think it was for the steering wheel radio controls if the truck was equipped with that option.
Does the wire adapter come in the box with the radio.
I ordered it when purchasing the radio on the Crutchfield website
Do the steering wheel controls still work?
My truck doesn't have the radio controls on the steering wheel.
I don't see a pre-wired harness offer from Crutchfield when I try to order. Do you know if they quit making one?
No sure. You could call them.

This is a project I might undertake. So, did the kit come with everything needed? Good video👍
Bought everything from www.crutchfield.com When shopping the site will recommend different things for your vehicle.
Would you know the part number for the antenna adapter?
I'm not sure. If you call Crutchfield they could probably tell yah.
Awesome video...do you have the link to were you bought all the items? Thanks
www.crutchfield.com Just add your year make and model when shopping and the site will recommend additional items to make the installation easier.
What kind of mount do you have for it? Scosche? I can’t figure out how to assemble this scosche one
I'm not sure. I ordered it on Crutchfield, I just bought what was suggested for my year. make and model
The extra wire harness that you could not plug into the new stereo is for the steering wheel radio control buttons. With your new stereo, you will not be able to control it with those steering wheel buttons.
Thanks for watching out Ford Explorer radio installation video.
Eqst coast accents are usually funny just to listen to for a Midwesterner lol
Thanks for watching. Hope this helped you out.
Do you still have steering wheel controls functional?
My truck doesn't have them.
Thank you sir
Welcome
Im really struggling with the power port at 4:15
There's a little tab to squeeze and it should pop right out.
Great help, thinking about upgrading the one on my Explorer 08 myself. Just curious but did you ever figure out what that unplugged wire did? Or any issues like if the bluetooth worked and all afterwards.
I believe the extra plug was for steering wheel radio controls which this truck did not have. The hands free works great!
Did the buttons on steering wheel still work
This truck doesn't have any.
Hello,....can I replaced that radio with the one with back-up camera...
You might be able to. I think I saw them on EBay you may want to check that out
@@HomeownerRepair really thanks. But I need to find the back-up light switch first before I do that 'coz I don't have back-up light...

I'm pretty sure that other harness part was for steering wheel controls
that harness is for if you want to retain the steering wheel controls
Did you disconnect the battery?
Yes, You should disconnect the battery before swapping out the radio.
Hello, where did you buy the harness?
Bought everything off of Crutchfield.
Where did you buy the bizzle from ?
I purchased everything from Crutchfield. That place is awesome!
@@HomeownerRepair Do you what model it’s called and thanks mate, appreciate it😊!
How much you want for the old radio ?
Pitched it. It didn't illuminate which is why I replaced it.
Where did you find the pre wired harness?
I ordered everything from Crutchfield, even the pre-wired harness for $25.00 It was an option during check out. It was worth the 25 bucks IMO

Thanks for the how to vid, how ever, I hope you removed the negative battery terminal off of the negative post, because you can fry your electronics...
Yes, It never hurts to remove the negative terminal before working on anything electrical
The problem with this is that none of the steering wheel controls or th factory USB or aux port will work. Also the cruise control won't work
Did you get it fixed
