I absolutely love, love, you two!! I hope your channel continues to grow. It is so creative in your settings. What a wonderful home you have. Is it a renovated barn?
I haven't any where near the experience of you two but i thought I'd share some of my favourites that don't get too much attention. Memo Russian leather i quite like the cold fern and lavender mixed with the pine and leathery dry down. Then I'm not sure if you can count this but i really like amouage beachhut man, to me its proabably my favorite modern take on it i don't think it has lavender but with the ivy and the mint mixed together and a subtle incense base is great and it lasts so much longer than memior for me. Great chanel guys glad to have found it!
How cool to see such a passionate and knowledgeable duo! Thanks again for your videos! My favs from Le Galion are Special for Gentlemen and Aesthete. On another topic, if you dig Kouros, try Sang Bleu from, funnily again, Le Galion and Amouage Figment if you wanna meet the Hulk!, assuming Kouros and Sang Bleu were Dr Banner...
Very entertaining presentation, thank you! I especially like the lively dialogue, and the total absence of overly sophisticated and far-fetched metaphor. If you like Jicky, you might also like Olim by Trudon, a Lyn Harris scent that adheres quite closely to the Fougère formula (lavender, bergamotte, spices over gentle benzoine and myrrh). Totally unisex. Very beautifully done. Perhaps a bit too well-behaved and comfy for my taste. I'd be curious to know what you think of it.
I really love the discourse in your videos. This is what alot of youtube videos are missing....the critical thoughts. I have trouble embracing MEM because of the unnatural caramel sweetness (my skin likes to emphasis sweetness so it could also be me). It just rubs me off the wrong way. I love MAAI loads though. New York Intense is one of my favourites although I see it more as an oriental. I'm eager to sample the EDT to explore the differences compared to the EDP. I need to sample Guerlain's Mouchoir de Monsieur. I like Jicky quite a bit.
gunmetal24 everyone seems to get a different experience from MEM. It’s different on me every time I wear it. MAAI is incredible, but I didn’t buy a full bottle as I couldn’t see myself actually wearing it that much.
You two are among the best in this field. Great duo! Today i was already wearing Salvador Dali pour homme when i came across this episode... what are you feelings on this fragrance ?
My goodness guys, when you guys talk im already amazed and enjoying every seconds and minutes of it need to get my nose on MEM, i have question why there is no invasion barbare by MDCI
Another fantastic video! Have you two gotten your nose on Le Barbier de Tanger by MDCI? It is really a stunner, but yet reminds me just how bad most reformulation issues have become with the downfall of oakmoss as far as run of the mill designer frags are concerned. Not to mention a sky high price tag for a soap and razor frag which always makes me cringe.... sigh. All that aside I think well worth a 'fougere sniff' if in the mood. Take Care!
early greek MDCI have suffered terribly from reformulation; Chypre Palatin is a shadow of its former glory, it’s a completely different colour. Invasion Barbare was another we considered for this list. London to Mumbai by Ideo is another stunner, but we wanted to stick to the short list, even though we failed slightly!
Are you familiar with diptyque? L'ombre dans l'eau is absolutely gorgeous. Its classified as a floral but I think it's almost too woody for that, which is sort of where fougeres live now. In between but slightly more woody. Imo. L'ombre dans l'eau (edp) smells like the goo that seeps forth when you snap a living part of a plant/tree
Rich Mitch yes, diptyque have some stunning fragrances. I smelt l’ombre dans l’eau some time ago, but only tried it whilst in department store, amongst a whole load of fragrances. I’ll have to give it a proper testing.
I thoroughly enjoyed the review, and this where I will reveal my secret weapon fougere. Ready? 1, jicky 2,mouchoir d m. 3, derby. 4, mem 5,kouros ____________ = Arquiste EL
La Galion Special for Gentleman sounds wonderful, thanks for bringing this one to my awareness, ordering samples now. :) I*m curious, where would you rate the signature Beau de Jour in this list now?
@@WaftsfromTheLoft São Paulo, Brasil. The big sellers, like Sephora, have a very reduced offering of Guerlains. With a lot of luck we're able to find in smaller stores, but it's rare. I found the Jicky that I mentioned in the grey market (and lost it, the seller sold it in a couple of hours)
Interesting choices, especially as representatives of the Fougere. I personally don't think of many of them as fougeres. Maybe Fougere touches, or fougere-esq, or Fougere-like but not solidly Fougere. Kouros is not anywhere near a Fougere. I don't think of Green Irish Tweed as a Fougere. Its green but so is the chypre Ralph Lauren Polo. Nor Guerlain Derby. Nor is Aramis Havana. I entered an ebay auction for Mouchoir de Monsieur but dropped out when the price soared. Never smelled it but I bet I wouldn't connect it to modern renditions of barbershop fougeres nor to classic Fougeres of modern creation. Here are my 5 favorite Fougeres, mixing barbershop and classic: 1. Creed Bois du Portugal 2. Tom Ford Beau de Jour 3. Houbigant Fougere Royale 2010 4. MDCI Invasion Barbare 5. Amouage Bracken Man Maybe Floris Elite next. Maybe New York Intense by Parfums de Nicolai after that. Those are definitely fougeres. What really gets me is how indiscriminately the classification of Fougere is thrown around in Fragcomm today. If everything and anything is a Fougere then nothing is.
It's our favourite 5. We were lucky enough to smell the original in the Osmotheque. Sadly, the current version bears very little relation to that original creation.
Wafts from The Loft - Based on your olfactory recollection of original Houbigant ‘Fougère Royale’ (1882) at the Osmotheque, what currently extant fougere fragrance would you say best resembles it? I’ve been wanting to experience original F.R. for years, so what can I get (that’s still widely available) to get a similar effect? I love both ‘Jicky’ (1889) and ‘Mouchoir de Monsieur’ (1904) but I somehow feel that F.R. was different: perhaps more along the lines of Penhaligon’s ‘English Fern’ (1911) or Geo.F. Trumper’s ‘Wild Fern’ (1876) - am I way off? What would each of you recommend as a suitable facsimile of F.R.? Wonderful list and review as always, gentlemen - cheers from Greece! 🍷

I absolutely love, love, you two!! I hope your channel continues to grow. It is so creative in your settings. What a wonderful home you have. Is it a renovated barn?
MoroccanMelody yes, it was owned by James I and dates back to around 1600
They are awesome hey .

Taffy J thanks!
Excellent survey. Thank you, gents.
Possibly my favourite genre. Thanks gentlemen, I noted down a few to try.
Joseph Musgrave our pleasure. Happy sniffing
Love this video, LOVE a great fougere! Especially those with very little oak moss, which most of these picks are.
Loving the discourse 👍 I never thought i would hear "a wonderful pissy quality" in a sentence 😂 bravo! Love it. New fan.
I am Nicholas James thanks!
Love your channel-all best from Montreal
Thanks!
That house looks fantastic. Thanks for another great video guys.
Arthur Scargill thanks!
Woah, I haven't even heard of Paisley. Will research it. I love mint. Malle Geranium pour Monsieur is very special for it's 3 types of mint.
manny44 I love GPM, amazing for the summer
Beautiful room and a great interpretation on this classic genre of fragrances. Will have to investigate your choices.
Thanks gents.
Smelly Vision Productions thanks!
I enjoyed your casual conversation on fougeres. You guys are the new "fragrance bros." Two thumbs up!
matthill thanks!
King KOUROS! I'm 24 and it's my favorite fragrance. Just magic. I own both vintage and new, both amazing
Fougère L'Aube by Rogue is worthy of consideration. Thanks for the review.
Yes, it's great stuff. Thanks for watching!
Wow I used to wear Kouros in the 80s! I’m having a glass of wine 🍷 next time I watch your reviews! Cheers!
Excellent decision!
Great review. Glad to see Derby in the mix. Great masculine fragrance powerhouse.
dudosmokokos yes, it doesn’t get talked about nearly enough! Just wish I could get my hands on some of the old stuff!

Yes, I'd definitely call Beach Hut Man a fougere.
Cooper square is my favourite fougere at the moment thanks for the ideas guys
I love your new channel!! Great reviews! I have a few old bottles of Jicky which I love. I’m eyeing an Mem...I’ve heard great things about
Bogue.
Duane Cormier you’re a lucky man if you’ve got some vintage Jicky!
Thank You For The Education As Always.
I love your reviews and all reviewed fragrances.

You both got style, definitely.
Thanks!

Wafts from The Loft Agreed. MAAI feels like a costume to me. MEM in theory is more wearable.
Great vid again, you two are fast becoming my fav frag chan, also thanks for the twitter follow, all the best guys.
MBreak1 thanks!
You two are among the best in this field.
Great duo!
Today i was already wearing Salvador Dali pour homme when i came across this episode... what are you feelings on this fragrance ?
It’s been a while since I’ve smelt it. Will have to revisit.
Just came Accrpss this ow great video. Need to pickup some of theae thx. Subbed

Great video Gents! Any thoughts on Eucris or Wild Fern from Geo F Trumper? Hope you both are well
Sean thanks! Eucris is fantastic; huge amounts of oakmoss perfectly offset by some black currant and spice
Love the duo, subscribed asap
Thanks!

Gabriel Garcia great choices!!
I want to try Derby but it’s way too expensive
Wow can’t believe you didn’t have penhaligons sartorial on that list
johnny spex we do enjoy Sartorial, but it didn’t quite make the cut
No drakkar noir??? What!?!? Lol, great list gentlemen!
La Galion Special for Gentleman sounds wonderful, thanks for bringing this one to my awareness, ordering samples now. :)
I*m curious, where would you rate the signature Beau de Jour in this list now?
You need a better glass for your Pinots, gentlemen. Great list, though
New. Love your reviews
Thanks!
Can’t find Mouchoir. Impossible.
But found a Jicky EDP, the current one (or the most recent). Is it worth it? Would you go for it?
Where are you? It's still quite widely available in UK and France.

I’m in the US but it is not available here either.
Azzora intense Pour Homme, or just the Pour Homme? What are the differences and preferences?
Actually, I’ve never tried the intense
How do you find MOUCHOIR DE MONSIEUR's performance?
It’s not big, but it is beautiful
Interesting wearing k in the mid 90s! Brave . It was an 80s perfume that got a bad name , everyone wore it back then . And I mean everyone.
New here!! Great video!
Thanks!
A list of best fougeres without a ROJA creation is a Scandal!
see what I did there 😏😉

What a shame there was no Fougere D'Argent by Tom Ford.
If we were to do this list again the TF fragrance that would be in there would definitely be Beau de Jour.
Houbigant Fougere Royal, the first fougere has been missed out...this review is incomplete
It's our favourite 5. We were lucky enough to smell the original in the Osmotheque. Sadly, the current version bears very little relation to that original creation.
